Legend has it that a mountain
path called 'Tadagoe-toge Pass'

in what is now Sasayama was
used by Yoshitsune's army

as it advanced to Tanba road
the backdoor to Ichi-no-tani.

His army would have passed
over what was much later.

Sasayama Castle Ruins of the
Warring States and Edo Period.

Related more-so to Heian period is
Sasayama Kasuga Shrine Noh Theater.

This Noh performance stage

has been designated as an
important national cultural asset.

It is said that en-route

Yoshitsune stopped to worship
at Sasayama Kasuga Shinto Shrine.

Before he left, Yoshitsune dedicated his
saddle and stirrups to the Shrine.

There is also a legend that
he planted this tree

as his army headed west
toward Inch-no-tani.

Yoshitsune is said to have gathered his
army here at the "gathering place".

From here they marched towards.

Mikusa mountain the slope of
hills above these houses.

It is said that he also stopped
at Mt. Fuefuki Yakushi Shrine

and his army watered their horses

in what today is the Bakuchi
Pond of Yakushi Shrine.

In 1185 the road from Kyoto joined
with the Tanba Road to Mt. Mikusa.

So legends related to Yoshitsune

and the Battles of Mikusa and Ichi-no-tani
still remain here in the Mikusa Mountains.
