In this lesson, we're going to take a look
at the reasons behind actually adjusting

part of a clip, just like we have the type
of, you know, color grade.

We create, the type of creative
look that we put over something.

There are specific reasons for adjusting
just part of the image as well.

One of the major reasons
we would add a secondary to a shot

is to lead the viewer's eye.

Generally, if we have an image, we want
there to be some kind of focal point.

We kind of
want to control where the viewer looks

so that we can tell the very best,
most effective story we can.

Now, a lot of the time
this should be done in production using

framing and lighting,
but sometimes you might want to enhance

kind of the focal point of a clip in color
grading.

For instance,
let's take a look at this shot.

This is a really cool picture, but

I feel like it's a little bit difficult
to figure out where to look.

There are so many things going on
and there's not a huge amount of contrast.

There isn't a huge obvious subject.

And so we're kind of left wondering
what are we supposed to look at?

So what will often do is do something like
take a window and kind of

adjust the lighting to give the viewer
a little bit more clue of what to look at.

This can
be as simple as making a selection

and brightening part of the image.

It could be darkening other parts.

It could be selecting something
and increasing its contrast,

increasing its saturation
d saturating other things.

But it's a very important technique
that can make your image,

you know, maybe 10% more appealing.
