Welcome back to Chapter 11.

In this chapter, we're going to be talking
about refining images, kind of

getting a little bit more about
the very specific parts of each clip.

So far, we've basically been talking
about primary corrections.

Now, a primary correction
is any correction

that happens to the entire image.

So you're making the whole image
brighter or darker or colder

or warmer, increasing the contrast,
those kind of things.

But now
we're going to get into secondaries.

Now a secondary correction is just
the term for adjusting part of an image.

Now, you can do this a couple of ways.

You can either select something

by the color and kind of change
all of a certain hue in the image.

We did a little bit of that

when we talked about color palettes,
but we can also physically select

a part of the screen to adjust
without affecting the rest of the screen.

So, for instance,

we might want to do something
like change this blue of this blanket.

Change the hue to something else without
affecting the other colors in the shot.

Maybe we want to take down the exposure
outside of this window a little bit

so we can put a shape over this
part of the image and just affect that.

Maybe we want to darken this wall,
which we would do in a similar way.

But that's really the deal.

Any time somebody talks about a secondary
correction, it's adjusting

just part of the image
and not the image as a whole.
