a former Federal Agent.

My grandfather worked

at a highly classified
Air Force base

and convinced me
we are not alone in the universe.

Then I had my own encounter
that changed my life forever.

Welcome to UFO country.

Now, I've gained access
to a top secret archive

from Project Blue Book.

This planet has been
under surveillance for centuries.

Contained reports
of over 10,000 UFO sightings

investigated
by the US Government.

We could very well be standing
on the exact place

where a UFO crashed.

My mission is to uncover the truth.

I'm in Kissimmee, Florida,

on my way to meet with a woman

who claims that she has an encounter
with an alien life form.

She was truly terrified.

She said this thing
was in her backyard.

J Allen Hynek defined this

as close encounter
of the third kind.

In order to classify sightings,

Project Blue Book investigator,
Dr Hynek,

developed an identification scale.

Simply get close
to an unidentified object

is a close encounter
of the first kind.

If the unidentified object
left physical evidence,

such as scorched earth,

or impressions on the ground,

it is a close encounter
of the second kind.

The top of the scale is an encounter
with an actual entity,

known as a close encounter
of the third kind.

One woman claims
to have recently experienced

this type of rare encounter,
in Southern Florida.

Today, I'm gonna meet
with Trish Bishop.

She agreed to meet me
at the backyard

where she said her
encounter happened.

Hey, nice to meet you.
I'm Ben.

Thank you so much
for meeting me here.

So, you lived over in this house
in this direction over here.

That's correct.
How long did you live there for?

Since February of 2013
to July of 2019.

And this even happened when?

February 28th of 2013.

So, take me back
to what was the first thing

that you noticed that was unusual
about your property?

What was going on?

It was a Thursday afternoon,

and I get home from work,

and I go out on the back porch
just to relax.

I had seen what appeared to be
this wavy thing.

It was above the trees.

It was about 10-12ft in length

and it just sounded like

something was walking over there
by the edge of the woods.

Something large?

Yeah.

And I'm sitting there and I'm like,

"What in the world is that?"

I'm not thinking alien.

I'm not thinking any of that.

That's not going through my head.

And, all of a sudden, I can see him.

This thing was a human body.

6-2, 6-3.

Very, very well built.

Military type body.

But he had a creature's head.

And he had these massive,

very pronounced jaw bones.

When I saw his eyes,
I thought, he can't... that...

that can't possibly be his eyes,
'cause he can't close them.

There's no way to close 'em.

And I thought,
if he knows I can see him,

he's gonna kill me.

Because of the look, stature,

and height of the alien being,

Trish felt threatened immediately.

She created a digital sketch
of what she saw.

I created something off
the Internet.

Oh, my gosh.
And this is really close.

Trish, this would be terrifying.

And I'm like, he's gonna kill me.

So, I thought
if I pretend that I don't see him,

then I might be safe.

So, I just kept playing
with my phone,

you know,
and he just stared at me,

and then he turned round,
he looked into the woods again.

And, turned back around,
he took a couple more steps.

All I kept thinking was if...

if I dial 911

and the police show up

and they see all those cops
and everything coming here,

he's gonna annihilate us.

So, he takes about five or six,

seven steps forward
towards that wavy thing.

When he enters that wavy thing,
everything disappears.

So, what I did was,
I sat there for a couple minutes.

After a couple minutes, I got up,

I wanted to see
if I could see that UFO.

Couldn't see it,
I couldn't see it anywhere.

Did you tell anybody about this
after the event?

No.

I didn't tell anybody
for four years.

I work with government contractors,
I have a clearance.

It's not something that
you just go out and tell people,

"Oh, I saw an alien."

I could possibly lose my job.

Though Trish stayed
silent for years,

she never forgot the encounter
in her backyard.

Eventually, she came across
the Mutual UFO Network,

or MUFON, online.

Their speciality,
deciphering UFO sightings.

So, it also had a link to report.

Uh-huh.

And I thought, I'm gonna tell.

I know what I saw.

I... I don't have to justify
anything to anybody.

I got an email back from John Gagnon

with MUFON,

and he started talking to me,

and he came out here.

We did a walk through the woods
and everything.

I showed him where I saw the alien.

So, he walked around with me
and everything,

and he said, "Why don't you get a...
a hunting tracker?"

And I did, I bought one.

Trish installed a hunting tracker,

a motion triggered camera
used to track game,

in her backyard.

Aimed at where
she had seen the alien.

A few weeks later,
it captured something shocking.

I did get a really good photo
of a UFO?

Really?
And I can...

I can show you a picture...
I would...

..of that online.
..I would love to see that, please.

Trish's trail cam was triggered
to take this photo

after detecting rapid motion.

The UFO appears to be streaking away
at a near perfect vertical ascent.

Photo analysis conducted

by MUFON concluded that

this object was 27ft wide
and 12-13ft long,

with no visible means of propulsion.

Other UFO's sighted
in American air space

had behaved similarly.

Namely the Tic Tac craft
that was filmed

by US Navy pilots in 2004.

--- Ah, man, look ---.

The Tic Tac was reported
to hover in space,

almost unnaturally,

before taking off
in whatever direction

it pleased

at near supersonic speeds.

What part of the sky
did you take this with?

I mean,
where was your trail cam pointed

in relation to the sky here?

This trail cam
was on the crepe myrtle tree

where I saw the alien.

OK.

And it was pointed west,

towards Kennedy Space Centre.

Well, Trish, you've given me
a lotta great information.

I can tell this was a very
impactful event for you,

and I appreciate you taking me back.

Trish's story is incredible.

So, the firsthand witness testimony
is crucial,

but I also like to get a balance
from an investigators point of view.

So, I wanna talk to John,

and hopefully he can fill me in
on what he did here.

John Gagnon is the Chief MUFON
Investigator for Florida.

Over the course of his career,

his job has been to separate fact
from fiction

in sightings all over the state.

If Trish's sightings ring authentic,
John will know.

So, John, could you tell me

when did you first interact
with Trish?

I was a chief investigator
for MUFON,

and so all reports come to me
from Florida.

Trish submitted a sighting report.

And I started reading the report,
and the...

the first line was,

"You're not gonna believe this,
but I saw an invisible spaceship."

And I'm thinking,
oh, boy, here we go.

Yeah, you probably get
a lotta that, right?

And you're thinking
here's another one.

We... we, we get enough of it, yeah.

I started reading it,
and something just got my attention.

I started reading the actual report
and I'm thinking,

I've got to get in touch
with this lady.

What was it about the report
that really caught your attention?

It sounded very sincere.

It wasn't rambling,
like most of those type reports are.

And was she pretty detailed
in the account?

She was.

Um-mm.

John was impressed

by Trish's account,

but he was also impressed

by her background.

If she was fabricating a sighting,

she was putting a lot on the line.

For the majority of her life
she'd been a security specialist,

working for government contractors.

She had
a top secret security clearance.

When I found out
what her background was,

it's like, OK,
this lady's not sitting here lying.

Like, she had nothing to gain
by making up a story like this.

Exactly, I drove
a little over an hour

to where she lived at the time.

We talked for quite a while.

We walked down in the woods
and she told me what she saw.

I took pictures.

John's takeaway
was the same as Ben's.

Trish was a highly credible witness

with a lot to lose,

who encountered something

extremely threatening.

Well, with all that you've done,

and people witnesses
that you've talked to,

where does this case rank
as far as credibility?

It's probably one of the top three.

We looked at a photo
that she had taken.

Is this from the trail cam?

Yes, this was from the trail cam.

As it turned out,

there had been a sighting
about six months earlier

by somebody else, 11 miles away.

Don't you think
it's the same object?

I would say
there's definitely a possibility.

So, was any analysis
done on the photo?

Yes.

We sent it to the photo analyst,

he was able to determine
it was maybe 27ft long,

12 or 13ft high.

He couldn't tell how wide it was,
because of the angle it was passing.

There was no visible
means of propulsion.

No wings on it.

No rotor blade.

Moving very slowly.

It's like, OK,

why is it staying up there?

Why doesn't it fall?

John, do you have any opinions
on why you think the...

the creature was here and visiting?

It definitely had a purpose
for being here.

That wasn't the first time
it was here,

and it probably
won't be the last time.

So, there is a reason
for it being here.

Is it here for food?

Possibility.

Is it here to monitor
these rocket launchers that we have?

A possibility.

a lot to think about.

and... and try to make sense of it.

it seems highly likely that

Trish had an authentic

close encounter of the third kind.

Ben believes it's possible
she experienced

a genuine close encounter
of the third kind.

But, what was this
creature's purpose?

Have there been other sightings like

Trish's that have caused witnesses
to feel threatened?

To find out, Ben decides to research

the historic archives
of Project Blue Book.

So, I've been down in Florida,

looking into this case
of Trish Bishop.

Now, Trish claims
that in her own backyard

she had a very terrifying
encounter, OK?

I guess what we'd call

a close encounter of the third kind.

There was this craft

that came down in a wooded area.

And, as she watched
from the corner of her house,

she saw this massive figure.

At first she thought it was a human,

except that
as she kept watching this thing,

she quickly realised that the eyes,

the mouth and jawline,

and everything
was definitely not human.

In fact, it's quite terrifying.

She kind of took some photo editing

and created the best version
of what she believed she saw.

So, Trish is like,
"What just happened here?

"Is there something that is visiting
or living in the woods?"

And I'm wondering
if there are any other stories

in the Blue Book era where people
have been so impacted by a...

a close encounter of a craft
and occupants,

maybe even in their own backyard?

There is a...

a case that fits the bill
of what you're talking about.

Took place in 1955.

It involved a farm family

that was besieged
by strange creatures.

It was a terrifying incident,

but it wasn't just terrifying,
it actually became quite violent.

Wow.

These are people
who take care of themselves.

These are people
who reach for their gun

when there's trouble.

Right, right.
They, they don't go to the police.

So, imagine
you are the desk sergeant

at the police department that night.

11:00 at night,

two pickups come racing into...

into the parking lot,
skidding to a stop.

11 people go inside and report
that a UFO, a flying saucer,

has landed behind their house,

and that they've been attacked
by little creatures.

16 law enforcement officers,

the local police,
the county sheriff,

the state police,
they all send people

to the farm to see
what they can find.

And they find lots of evidence
that this shootout really happened.

There are holes in the screens.

There's shot embedded
in the window frames.

There's shell casings scattered
all over the ground.

And, one more piece
of evidence was that

there was a bald spot in the grass,
in the gully behind the farmhouse.

So, this is where Billy Ray
had first seen the...

the object float down from the sky
and land on the ground.

There was a bald patch there
that nobody ever investigated.

Well, that's something
to follow up on, definitely.

Anything that could
possibly be still there,

as far as physical evidence?

'Cause it sounds like military,
the law enforcement, botched it.

It just raised
too many tough questions.

Questions they just
didn't wanna deal with.

But, you're telling me
the police took it seriously.

They came there, yet they didn't
really do an investigation.

The military shows up.

What did the military conclude?

Was the Air Force or Blue Book
then involved after this?

The Air Force's involvement
in this case is...

is totally schizophrenic.

They were all over this case,
but publicly, they had no interest.

Wow.

In addition,

and this is what the Air Force
doesn't want you to remember,

in addition,
there were four military police men

from Fort Campbell,
which is about 20 miles away.

They were there almost instantly.

There were also two men,

two agents
from a government agency,

that was never named,

but they were wearing
civilian clothes.

But these two men showed up
the day after the...

the sighting and starting
asking a lotta questions.

Nobody knows who they were.

Nobody knows who they represented
or who they worked for.

But they were on the scene
asking questions.

So, it's just one more layer
of government involvement

that they were just really
trying to cover up.

Well, once again,

we might have a possible connection
with the military base nearby.

Right?

I don't know what they were doing
at Fort Campbell at the time,

but Trish Bishop, in Florida,

has a view
of some of the rocket launchers,

the shuttle launches,

and things
that happen in Cape Canaveral.

Yeah.

It's something to look at that

perhaps there's a connection

to the activity happening
at Fort Campbell.

Is there any way
that I could talk to anyone

who might be related
to the family still?

I think you could talk
with Geraldine Sutton.

She's the daughter of Lucky Sutton,

who was kind of the, the...

the main witness
in the alien invasion case.

She wasn't alive
at the time it happened,

but she's heard the stories
from her family

about that incident.

I think you could learn
a lot from her.

and especially
because this is such a...

a fantastical story,

she would be the one to...
to get the details from.

the Sutton family felt threatened

by the presence of these creatures
on their property.

So, much so, that they opened fire
on the beings.

What was attracting these aliens

to the private property
of American citizens?

And why are they displaying
aggressive behaviour?

I'm on my way to Kelly, Kentucky.

The Sutton family encountered
something quite freakish.

The, the description
of these creatures

is so strange, but in a way,
it's similar to what Trish reported.

Definitely not human.

The craft landed somewhere
near the property, in the backyard.

And then you also have the fact that

a similar tic tac shaped UFO
was seen 11 miles away.

Now, I don't know if that has

anything to do
with a pattern that...

that might emerge as being relevant,
but I'm here to find out.

of Kelly, Kentucky.

No, not really.

Past that house right there...

..it's just field and trees.

So, Geraldine,
tell me about that night.

It was 1955.

Who was there at this...

this farmhouse, and what happened?

Geraldine was not yet born
when the encounter took place,

but her father recounted the story
in detail many times.

I call this
the great American horror story

for a reason,

because it was total terror,
chaos and horror that night.

My dad and his wife
at the time, Vera,

and their friends
Billy Ray and June Taylor,

they worked
with the travelling carnival.

They were stationed like
two hours away in Evansville.

They were so close,
they decided to come in.

"Let's go home, let's see mom."

It was a Sunday evening,

so my grandmother
had gotten back from church.

The sun was going down.

Billy Ray decided
to go out to the well.

As he was going out,
he heard something,

looked up toward the sky
and saw something going across it.

Round, oval in shape.

Silver.

According to Geraldine's father,

Billy Ray found himself
face to face with a UFO.

He bolted back to the house

and told the others
what he had just seen.

So, my dad says, "Billy Ray,
let's go out to the well.

"You show me where you saw this at."

Billy Ray and Geraldine's father,
Lucky, returned to the well.

There they saw something
beyond their wildest imaginings.

Lo and behold,

from the back of the woods

comes this little
3, 3.5ft tall being.

Arms almost touching the ground.

Though the alien beings
were not as imposing

as the alien Trish saw,

Geraldine's father and brother
felt threatened.

So, here you got two grown men

running into the house,

screaming,
"There is something out here."

Well, my dad told my grandmother,
"Mom, there's something out here.

"We saw it."

Well, she knew
it was really getting serious

when one grabbed a rifle,

one grabbed a shotgun,

one went to the front door,
and one went to the back.

All of a sudden,

you can hear your nails
going across the tin roof.

The Sutton's had hear enough.

They believed
they were under a full-scale attack.

It was time to shoot first
and ask questions later.

Somebody screamed,

"There's one in the big tree!"

He turns, shoots it.

You know, they keep coming up
to the windows and the doors.

The Sutton's continue to open fire
on their extraterrestrial attackers.

They split up their offensive.

With Billy Ray taking the fight
to the creatures.

But, once outside, he was exposed.

Ben Hansen is investigating
a close encounter

of the third kind
in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

In 1955, Lucky Sutton
and his family, 12 people in all,

came face to face
with what they believed

were hostile aliens.

Geraldine Sutton was not yet born,

but will never forget
her father's harrowing story,

the moment when the beings reached
their house, clawing to get in.

And her family opened fire.

Well, you've got the girls crying.

Everybody's hysterical.

They don't know what these

things are.

So, my dad's trying
to calm everybody down.

And he tells them,
"As soon as we can,

"we're gonna hit those cars

"and we're going into Hopkinsville
and get help."

They high tail it down the 41 here,

get into Hopkinsville,
which is about 7 miles from here.

Lucky Sutton told his story
to the sheriff,

and the local police
sprung into action

to investigate the scene.

In the middle of the night,
they search the buildings they had,

they searched the house up and down.

Could not find anything.

Although the Sutton family assured

the local police
their encounter was real,

they were not taken seriously.

Nothing was done, you know.
Nothing was roped off.

No samples taken or anything.

The only thing they could do is,
the chief told my grandmother,

"Miss Glennie, I'm so sorry,
but there's nothing here.

"There's nothing we can do for ya."

That's horrifying...
Exactly.

..to be there trying to protect
your children.

Yes.

These things are coming
and you don't know what they want,

and you hear the sound
of talons and scratching.

My grandmother was scared to death.

She sold the farm in two weeks..
Wow.

..two weeks...
Wow.

..and moved to Hopkinsville
into an apartment complex,

because she felt
she was safer there.

I mean, it's...
it's a hard thing to move.

To pack everything up
and to sell something that quickly,

really adds credibility to the story
that they were terrified.

Yes.

They thought
there's something out here.

Did, did they feel like
it was out to get them?

Why did they think
that these visitors

came to their farmhouse?

They don't know.

That's just it, they don't know
why they chose them.

But, the story doesn't end there.

Years after her family said
they encountered the aliens,

Geraldine was approached
by a stranger

who claimed to have information

about a top secret
government investigation

that took place
the night of the attack.

He said, "I had a friend that knows

"exactly what happened
to the green men."

He said, he was in the military,
he was on his death bed,

and he says, "I've got to tell you
something before I die.

"The Kelly green men are real."

After this had happened,
after they had left Kelly,

they crash landed 3 miles away.

Really?

He said, "Wright Paterson came in

"and took it all away.

"Somebody found something.
Picked it up.

"Hid it in the back of the truck,
the truck took off."

What was it?

The military was officially...
Yes.

here, but the,
the, the reports say

that they didn't do
any investigations.

You will not hear that.

You will hear that from people
that lived around here

that know that fact.

Sounds like enough people
are coming forward

and saying, "No, military was here.

"Military was 3 miles away
to pick up a crashed."

If the military was involved,
why do you think

they would continue
to cover up and...

and say,
"Hey, we... we weren't here."

For some reason,
they just did not want anything

to do with this.

I don't know why.

We'll never know what
that object was that was picked up.

If that did happen,
if a spacecraft did crash...

Um-mm.

..they're good
at covering things up.

They're afraid to tell people
that such things exist.

You have a lotta people
coming forward now

and telling you little bits
of information

to fill in the gaps here.

Is there anyone who's still
around here, still alive,

that maybe I could talk
to that experienced this?

There actually is.
He was a teenager.

My dad took under his wing,
believe it or not.

Actually taught him to shoot
and all kinds of stuff,

when he was a kid.

Bill Thomas was a friend

of Geraldine's family

at the time of the attack.

He remembers first hand details
of that night

that could prove vital
to Ben's investigation.

'cause this is starting

which is key,

because none of the family members
are still alive.

Some official agency did do more
than just look around the property.

Somebody says they... they saw them

pick up some material

and take it back to the truck.

We know the military was here.

So, why would they deny
being involved

if there wasn't anything to hide?

I wanna talk
to collateral witnesses.

a meeting between

Ben and her father's old friend,
Bill Thomas.

Bill was in the area at the time

and witnessed the gun battle
from afar.

Geraldine was telling me

that you grew up in the area
at the time of this event,

and you had some
firsthand knowledge of...

of what took place?

Did you know the Sutton family
before this event?

Yes, Lucky was my friend,

and I am honoured to be known
as his friend.

So, tell me, that night,
what were you doing?

It was later in the evening.

I wanted to stop
and see my little sweetheart.

At 14, you're not...you're
just popping up, whatever.

We was sitting out on the porch

talking about a little bit
of everything,

and was hearing noise

coming from what was called
the Sutton Place.

They was hollering and screaming.

She said, "Oh, my god,
what was that?"

And I said, "It was a bullet."

We sat there on the outside
a little bit, police come by.

State Troopers.

Looked like the sheriff,
I don't know.

Little while after that,
Fort Campbell started coming by.

So, didn't know what happened.

Was concerned
about Lucky and the folks.

The next morning,
fairly late, Lucky came by.

The minute he saw Lucky,

Bill knew his friend
had seen something terrible.

The man was so scared,

had goosebumps actually on his arms

and tears in his eyes.

We're talking about a man that...

that's left to deal with it
when it come right down to it.

Ben Hansen is investigating
the Sutton family's

near deadly close encounter
of the third kind.

They keep coming up
to the windows and the doors.

They're shooting at 'em,
trying to keep 'em out.

Now, he's getting
a firsthand account

from a witness who believes

there's more to the story
than we know.

And he was really upset,

because people was thinking

that he was doing something
to get attention,

to get advertisement.

And that family
did not have enough money

to destroy their own house.

It would not have made any sense.

Right.

Lucky asked Bill to come
to the scene of the encounter,

to see if they could find
any proof of the attack.

And they found that
place back there that was,

I don't know, 200 or 300 yards

behind the house
and slightly to the left.

When I seen it, it looked like

somebody had literally shaved
the grass off to clay,

and it was clay.

So, somebody definitely
was interested

and did take samples,

contrary to what

the official
statement was, right?

That, hey, we didn't have a...
an official investigation.

Rightly so.

So, we've established
the military was there.

Your personal opinion,

why do you think the military
would deny their involvement?

And what was the...

the purpose of them not coming clean
about why they... they investigated?

This is blunt,

I have no proof that this garbage
had happened in Roswell, New Mexico.

They told the story about that

and then they siphoned it all down
to where it was a weather balloon.

Get real.

The military lied about it,

covered it up,
call it whatever you wanna call it.

I think it happened.

I think it happened here.

And I also think
it continues to happen,

and for what purpose, I don't know.

And we have proof
that somebody went back there.

I imagine they didn't have
a random trespasser

come and dig a patch out of their
grass being unnoticed.

Right?
Right.

Something happened that night.

Whether it be extraterrestrial,

whether it be paranormal,

something happened to my family
in that house that night.

I would love to go out
to the actual property,

if it's possible to... to access it,

and to kinda walk through
how it happened, if that's OK?

I always like to kinda do a survey
to see the layout,

because it goes along with the story
and can help support the account.

Before heading
to the Sutton property,

Ben digs into the files
from the CUFOS library on the case.

The Sutton family claimed
there was a burnt patch of land,

where the UFO allegedly landed.

But it's since been lost.

If I could find it,

I might be able to uncover

other lost evidence.

Here's a map.

is suppose to have landed,

about 300ft from the house.

So, if this craft
had mechanical problems,

and if this is still
a very rural area,

it is possible
that there's something

that's been overlooked.

While the government claimed
there was no official investigation

into the Sutton case,
Bill's account says otherwise.

Luckily, CUFOS did an investigation
of their own.

They interviewed family members,

compiled testimony,
and even mapped out the event.

This map shows, in exacting detail,
where the craft might have landed.

If Ben can investigate
this location,

he might prove once and for all
that the Sutton account was factual.

After talking to Geraldine,

found the location

of the UFO's alleged landing.

the old growth trees in the area.

If this was the direction
the Sutton's were shooting,

bullets might still be embedded
in the trees.

These trees should have no metal
in them,

unless somebody shot them.

And I think it's definitely possible
that your family

had an encounter
of the third kind that night.

This trail cam
was on the crepe myrtle tree

where I saw the aliens.

And it was pointed west,
towards Kennedy Space Centre.

The Sutton's took place
near a military base.

A little while after that,
Fort Campbell started coming by.

And some of the most compelling
UFO sightings

have come from military pilots.
