For the past 50 years,

there's been evidence of highly
advanced technology in our skies,

baffling Navy Top Gun and military
helicopter pilots alike.

These massive TicTac-shaped objects

appear to move at warp speeds,
defying the laws of physics.

This object was going
24,000 miles an hour.

Something came in
moving very fast and almost hit us

and I have no idea what it was.

Could these UFOs be the proof
that we are not alone?

'Cause it really --- happened.
You think I'm lying?

And if so, what do they want?

My grandfather worked at
a highly classified air force base

and convinced me
we are not alone in the universe.

Then I had my own encounter
that changed my life forever.

Welcome to UFO country.

to a Top Secret archive
from Project Blue Book...

This planet has been under
surveillance for centuries.

...containing reports
of over 10,000 UFO sightings

investigated by the US Government.

We could very well be standing

on an exact place
where the UFO crashed.

My mission is to uncover the truth.

I'm on my way to meet Kevin Day

who is a former chief radar officer
for the Navy.

Years ago Kevin was stationed
off the coast of California

and he actually had a front row seat

to one of the biggest UFO sightings
in the 21st century,

the Nimitz Video.

In 2004, the USS Nimitz
aircraft carrier

was on a combat training mission
off the coast of San Diego

when officer Kevin Day
had an encounter

with an unidentified flying object.

The cylindrical object
in the shape of a TicTac

covered somewhere between 15
and 24,000 feet in mid air

and then suddenly darted off.

13 years later,

video of the encounter was leaked
to the New York Times.

The video is considered
the gold standard of UFO encounters

and to this day, analysts have been
unable to identify the craft.

There's simply no denying
that this was a UFO.

Kevin Day was the radar operator
on the Nimitz that day.

Since leaving the Navy, he's been
warned not to discuss what he saw

but he's agreed to meet with Ben,
no matter the risk.

Been waiting a long time
to meet you.

I have some very specific questions
I'd like to take some notes on

if you don't mind, but why don't we
start out first of all...

Could you take me back to that day?

Tell me, what was it like
through your eyes.

In the morning of the 14th,

we had planned to do a major
air defence exercise

so we were off the coast about
90 miles off San Diego that day.

I was up on watch.
I was anti-air warfare coordinator.

I'm the actual guy
that makes the identifications.

My whole job is to identify
stuff that flies.

OK.

And I notice these really strange
contacts off Catalina Island.

They were at 28,000
feet in a real loose formation

and they were tracking south
at 100 knots.

Interesting.
I'm a pilot...

You could see why you're like,

"Whoa, what's something that slow
doing this high up?"

I had never seen anything
fly like that before.

Immediately we're thinking
"Hey, are these things real?"

This seems a type of glitch.

So we ran a bunch of
diagnostic tests

and we brought all our systems
back up and the contacts were...

They were stronger now.

The object seemed to ping-pong
through the sky,

changing speed and directions in
ways that defy the laws of physics.

That's when I became concerned
about these things.

I strongly recommended
we take on the aircraft

that just launched off the Nimitz
and go intercept one

and see what it is.

The commander
happened to be airborne.

He was one of the first
to launch off the Nimitz.

One of the best pilots
the Navy's probably ever produced.

So I said "Hey, let's intercept
one of these things."

As soon as that happened,
he's like,

"Oh my God, oh, my God,
I'm engaged, I'm engaged."

Pilots describe the object

as a white, 40-foot-long
TicTac-shaped craft.

That object dropped from 28,000 feet

down to the surface of the water
in less than a second.

He's like, "I'm gonna go
check this out, right."

So he leaves his wing man up high

and he follows it
down to the surface

and this thing recognises him.

And next thing you know,
phew, this thing's gone.

Wow.
Yeah.

And it was one of the most
humbling moments of my life.

We were a highly trained
group of people on that ship.

Years of experience.

And these objects
totally kicked out ---.

If they had been hostile, there
was nothing I could have done.

Do you think they were curious

about what you guys
were doing out there?

I'm gonna speculate here,
Ben, 'cause I don't know

but I think they've been here
for a long, long time.

And I'm gonna speculate
even a little bit farther,

I think that technology upgrade
that our ship had received,

I think it gave us the ability
to suddenly see these things.

So I actually have
the video right here.

Alright, so here's the video.

OK, so he's following this
and his altitude is level.

And there it goes.
There it goes.

Just zips off.
Yeah. Imagine it.

Star Trek, huh.
When it just like, chew!

So based on what you were seeing
on your radar scope, the video...

Do we have an estimate
of how fast this was going?

They crunched the numbers on that

and it turns out this object,
whatever it was,

was going a really in excess
of 24,000 miles an hour.

24,0000 miles an hour?
Yeah.

And the G-Forces, the gravities,
13, 15 G-forces.

A human can withstand maybe nine
without special gear and stuff.

The aircraft itself can survive

maybe 15, 14, 15 G
before it flies apart.

Was your audio traffic...

all that you recorded
during that, ever recovered?

Was that ever found?
People came on board the ship.

Was looking like air force officers.

They had top secret clearances.

These guys collected
a bunch of stuff.

We have a system there

that records all your external
communications on an optical disk.

Man, those comms were taken.

All the actual voice data was taken.

All your audio from your radio
traffic is gone?

Yes.

And ditto for the radar.

And then they got back
on the helicopter and left.

Where did they go?
I don't know.

That's what happened.
It really --- happened.

You think I'm lying?
I mean, really?

No.
I'm not.

Was there any follow up officially?
Like after the incident happens.

No one came to talk to you about it.

No, that's what bugs me
so much about this.

I tried to talk to the captain
about it who seemed...

disinterested.

And trying to talk to the people
in my office about it.

No one wanted to hear it.
And to this day it disturbs me

because, what do you mean,
you're not curious about it?

These things are there.
They're right in our air space

and there's definitely concerns
for safety of flight.

But that's not the only thing
that disturbed Kevin Day.

After the incident,
Kevin began to have nightmares.

My concerns actually
manifested into nightmares.

You were having what types of...

It's like end of the road
type of ---.

Tsunamis, tidal waves,
earthquakes, forest fires, floods,

that type of stuff,
which was really weird.

And I didn't know what the hell
was going on with me.

The reason why I am here
talking to you is because...

Something's happening here

and my personal fear is
what if happened to me

happens to the whole damn world
at the same time?

And nobody knows why.
And everything's changing.

That might not end
so well for us, Ben,

so I think we need
to prepare for this

because it's coming
whether we want it to or not.

I didn't expect Kevin to be
so emotionally impacted

from this event.

It's been 15 years
since this occurred

and yet you can see in his eyes,
this completely changed his world.

He felt like these objects may have
been here for a long time.

Can we place this event that was
only 15 years old in history,

a pattern perhaps is emerging.

Ben contacts the one person
he thinks knows the truth,

Jennie Zeidman.

The last remaining member

of the top secret government agency,

Project Blue Book.

Starting in 1952,

Project Blue Book analysed
thousands of UFO encounters.

Like Kevin, Jennie has never
gone public with what she knows

but she's agreed to share

what the government knows
about the UFOs

and grant Ben access
to her case files.

Jennie, Mark,

I just had a really
great conversation

with Kevin Day of
the USS Nimitz case.

A very personal, up close,
kind of terrifying experience

that these military pilots
had with this UFO.

If they had been hostile,
there is nothing I could have done.

Jennie, what do you think of this?

This was a horrible, scary thing.

Well, you see Donnelly couldn't
control anything about it.

He didn't even know what it was.

Joining Jennie and Ben is
UFO Historian, Mark O'Connell.

All we know for sure is he was
very close to this object.

But what is it?

It's an enigma,
wrapped up in a mystery.

But it's not the first time
Jennie's heard accounts

of an oval-shaped craft playing
games with American military pilots.

Jennie sends Mark to dig up
one of the cases in her archive,

the Coyne UFO
helicopter case of 1973.

There was a profusion of UFO cases
in the fall of 1973.

Most of them were in the East
of United States.

Among them,
the Coyne helicopter case.

Most of the time with UFO reports
there's one person.

The Coyne case
has separate witnesses.

Several witnesses
all reported seeing the same thing,

a cylindrical object flying across
the sky at incredible speeds

just like the Nimitz TicTac video.

I interviewed the crew,
mostly separately.

And they were very cooperative?
They were very cooperative.

Coyne is very serious and I can't
imagine him pulling anything.

I think we got the tapes right here.
Well, let's have a listen.

Jennie's tapes
are the original interviews

she conducted
with the Coyne helicopter crew

about their UFO encounter.

First up, Sergeant Healey,
the flight medic,

describes that the object
looked like.

Next, Robert Yanacsek, Crew Chief,
describes how the UFO moved.

Finally Captain Coyne,
the helicopter pilot,

describes the encounter.

The UFO described
by the Coyne helicopter crew

and the Nimitz Naval pilots
30 years later sound eerily similar

in appearance, movement and encounter

but that's not all.

Soon after the Coyne incident,
Sergeant Healey,

like Kevin Day,
began having strange nightmares.

Sounds like someone who suffered
something very traumatic.

This was a nightmare,

and a nightmare
of you watching something

which you have no control over.

So do we have anything else
reported?

Other witnesses?
Did they come out at the time?

As Jennie soon discovered, people
on the ground also saw the object.

The second group was a family.
Several kids, the mother driving.

Is this the case file here?
Uh-huh.

Well, let's have a listen.

That illustration is true to the
testimony of the family in the car.

So they were actually pretty close.

Well, one of the kids said the
object was as big as a school bus

and this is
a very credible testimony

so that means that these are
truly unidentified objects.

You were over several months
talking to them so each rendition...

Oh, over months and none
of these stories ever changed.

By this time, I had been working
on the case so long

that I probably just sat
and looked at the papers

and said "This is it."

And I'm looking at this and thinking
about Kevin Day's description.

What they described as a
TicTac, right?

Cylindrical, no wings, no tail,

and I can't help but think

how similar we have, 1973,
something such as this, right?

Is it possible we're dealing

the same craft?
Or the same model.

Same type of class,
or like you said, model,

maybe it was a very popular model.
Yeah.

Pretty mind boggling.
I agree, it's very puzzling.

What else can we find in history

where we've had these
very close contact reports

with military pilots
or a personnel with UFOs?

Well, the first on record
is from January 1948,

that's when an international
guard pilot named Thomas Mantell

was ferrying a plane
from Georgia up to Kentucky

and what he didn't know was,
while he was flying north,

people all over Kentucky
were recording

seeing a strange object in the sky.

So Mantell's flying into this area

where all these sightings
had taken place

and he gets the order
to change course,

follow this thing,
find out what it is.

So he breaks off from the
three other pilots in his group

and basically starts
chasing this object,

starts following it
higher and higher.

Unfortunately his plane
wasn't equipped with oxygen.

Ooh.
Yeah.

He was on a short flight
at lower altitude

and he didn't need the oxygen.

And he's flying way past an
altitude where you need oxygen.

And he passed out.

He may have actually
suffocated at 30,000 feet

before he went
into his crash dive.

All we know for sure is,
he got to about 25, 30,000 feet

and his plane crashed.

The Mantell case was a real tragedy.

As far as we know, it wasn't
directly caused by the UFO

but getting up there
and following it

was the impetus
that maybe caused his death.

Yeah, exactly.

It's interesting that both cases
we're talking about,

the Nimitz case
and the Coyne copter case,

why are they so curious

about interfering
with military aircraft?

What are they looking for?
What are they testing?

I'm a pessimist, as you may have
gotten hints of from time to time.

They're so far ahead of us
technologically

and I don't see
how we could ever survive.

There's a lot of information
here to process

and I would love to read
over your full report, Jennie.

Is there anyone that you think
I could talk to

that was actually there that day?

Yeah, we managed to
track down Rick Jezzi.

Really?
Oh, yeah.

One of the four crewmen
on the helicopter.

He was at the controls
of the helicopter

when they first sighted the object

so he's gonna have a lot of really
good stuff to share with you.

Oh, I can't wait.

But you better see him fast
'cause time is a-fleeting.

Jennie arranges a meeting with Coyne
helicopter pilot, Rick Jezzi.

Rick hasn't gone on record
since the 1970s

but due to Ben's background

he's agreed to meet him
in a hotel in Philadelphia.

Interviewing Rick is a once
in a lifetime opportunity.

Interview with Rick Jezzi.

Rick, thank you so much
for meeting me here.

I have talked to Jennie Zeidman
and gone over a lot of things

and I'm so happy
to have you actually here

because, unfortunately
as I understand,

most of the crew,
or all of them, are all gone.

Last man standing.

I know, maybe it's been a while
since you've told the story.

Can you take me back to that
and just try to...

Do you remember the details?
Who noticed something unusual first

and what happened?

Then all of a sudden,
the commentary increases in tempo.

But it was much, much faster
than what we were used to seeing

at that altitude
on our regular flight.

Which, in an army helicopter is,

you cut the throttle
and you put the collective down

and you drop,
and you drop pretty aggressively.

But the helicopter
didn't drop at all.

Instead it started rapidly
gaining altitude

completely
out of the pilot's control.

And I have no idea what it was.

Ben Hansen is investigating
the 2004 UFO sighting

that shocked Kevin Day's crew
onboard the USS Nimitz.

I think we need to prepare for this

because it's coming
whether we want it to or not.

Could this be the very same UFO
that visited pilot Rick Jezzi

during the infamous
Coyne incident of 1973?

I only got to see the object.

It was directly above us

and what I noticed was
a very bright, white light.

It was close enough
to be of major concern.

To avoid collision,
Coyne attempted a rapid descent.

But instead,
the TicTac-shaped object

pulled the helicopter
towards it.

By the crew members accounts

they climbed from 1700 feet
to 3500 feet in ten seconds.

..all the way to the horizon
where it disappeared.

After it passed,
we got back to altitude.

We flew back to Cleveland,
Arkansas, and landed.

First reaction was,
we contact the DFEA.

They weren't flying,
every aircraft was down that day.

With no flights airborne
at the flight of the encounter,

the strange craft
was truly an identified object.

So we reported it as a near miss

and that was the official
position that was taken.

Wow. OK.

Well, that's quite the experience.

When you landed as a crew,
you made the official reports

but did they do
any follow up of that?

Did they find this concerning?

No. There was no follow up
from the military at all?

None at all?
Not at all.

Wow.

My puzzlement is,
why would the military, the FAA,

not be more concerned
with finding out?

Oh, I think the military
know a lot more than they say

but obviously
they're not discussing it.

Now one of the things that...
true, it happened,

was that the mag compass
on that helicopter

never functioned the same way
as it did before.

At times,
it would just spin on its own.

Really?
And then it would stop.

And it would point some place
that it shouldn't be pointing to.

It was weird.
It was replaced later.

Unfortunately,
that piece of hard evidence

appears to have been destroyed

and the story covered up.

Did you ever talk
to each other about,

like, "Hey, should we talk
to the public about this?"

There was some sensitivity
about being embarrassed.

"Who are these gooks who saw a UFO?"

That permeated some of the
discussion that we had the next day.

Wow.

I, again, wanted to
really thank you, Rick.

It may not have been easy
for you to come here today,

but thank you for trusting me
in hearing your story,

a terrifying encounter

similar to Kevin Day's.

Now both men have the same question.
Why did the government cover it up?

Something unexplainable
happened to Rick's helicopter -

when they attempted to descend,

the helicopter instead ascended
1800 feet in a matter of seconds.

Is it possible that the UFO
was pulling it up like a magnet?

Ben decides to set up an experiment.

who specialises
in high altitude manoeuvres.

You got the notes that I sent you
about what we're trying to do?

I did.
Great, well, let's get started.

NARRATOR: Ufologists theorise
that extra-terrestrial spacecraft

use magnetic forces to propel
themselves through the galaxy.

Could this also account for the
helicopters rapid ascent in 1973?

Ben wants to put this theory
to the test.

BEN: We have to make sure the crew
has some experience in this too

because some of them get air sick.

I'm ready to do this.

came in contact with a UFO in 2004.

It really --- happened.

30 years earlier,
helicopter pilot Rick Jezzi

saw the same TicTac-shaped craft.

The object was
directly above us.

Ben is determined to find out

if alien ships
are deliberately making contact

with US military aircraft.

Today, Ben is conducting
an experiment.

Back in 1973, the helicopter crew
claimed the vehicle climbed

from 1700 feet to 3500 feet
in just ten seconds.

Is a helicopter
even capable of that?

Or was it caught
in the magnetic pull of a UFO?

The test is complete
and the results are clear.

A helicopter can not climb
1800 feet in ten seconds.

That was fun.

This experiment was a huge success.

I learned some things that I was
not expecting with a helicopter.

What it told me is that

any helicopter is not going to be
able to make that rate of climb

naturally within ten seconds.

I just don't see it happening.
We're left with the X-Factor.

Some external force
had to have created this scenario

where the helicopter ascended
1800 feet in ten to 12 seconds.

Ben is now convinced

that the helicopter
was somehow manipulated

by the TicTac-shaped UFO
it encountered.

But the question remains,
how did the TicTac achieve this

and why?

To find out, Ben is meeting
with a local UFO expert

who claims to have
never before revealed info

on the Coyne helicopter case.

Hey, how are you? I'm Tom.

for meeting me here.

I'm really interested to first know

how did you get started
investigating the Coyne copter case?

One thing that really made me start
digging in this whole case,

you've got trace evidence from
mechanical issues on the helicopter.

I'm a pilot and when you do
maintenance on any aircraft,

that maintenance follows the
aircraft for the life of the plane,

the helicopter you're required to.
Right.

Do you know if the military
made official documentation

of those affects on the craft,
or what happened to it afterward?

Well, here's the problem.

When you dig into it, you find out
that the compass was swapped out,

and after 90 days

they threw away the documentation
associated with it.

Yeah, yeah, right.

Then they went back later on

and started talking to the crew
about some unusual dreams.

What they related to?
Out of body experiences.

Kevin day in 2004
and Rick's crew in 1973

both discussed
having residual nightmares

after their UFO encounters.

My concerns actually
manifested into nightmares -

tsunamis, tidal waves,
earthquakes, forest fires, floods,

that type of stuff.

They want to know
about the content of the dreams

and they wanna know
all about the dreams?

That's right. They wanted to
know about the dreams.

So who was it that asked them
about their dreams?

It came from
the surgeon general's office.

Has the government long known

that apocalyptic nightmares were
an after effect of UFO encounters?

Tell me a little bit more about
the effects on the Huey helicopter.

On the helicopter they did
a Magnaflux test the next day.

The Magnaflux test,

what they would do,
is spray on a chemical,

then it would put an ultraviolet
light to it and look for fractures.

Well, why would you do a Magnaflux
test out of the clear blue sky?

It's only unless
you're looking for something.

Do you know who did this?
I mean, their superiors, or...

It's just like the mechanics,

there was no mention
of exactly who ordered it

but it was just done.

So they get back, they do
these tests on the helicopter.

It's unusual to be testing an
aircraft on a routine flight, right?

That soon afterwards,
why would you do that?

To me that would be
such a major coincidence

that they would do it
the next day.

So what about the crew? Did they
debrief them on the whole thing?

Well, that's another
interesting thing.

So it took six months

for eventually a disposition
to get filled out with the FAA,

where they documented
everything that happened.

And I ask Healey and Yanacsek,
both, about that document.

I said "Does the military mind
you talking about this?"

"As long as we stay with the story."
Mm-mm.

So basically what they were saying
is "As long as I don't vary

and kinda become
very opinionated on everything

and I just stay with the script,
they're fine with me."

Huh.
So I'm like, "That's unusual."

What happens to the helicopter

Well, that to me is a good question

because that's your biggest piece
of physical evidence.

Great.

find out that the helicopter
was pulled out of service,

reassigned another number
and send to Columbia.

I found WikiLeaks documents
to that effect.

Really?
Yes.

This helicopter,
in March of 2009, crashed,

killing all four crewmen on board.

And it wasn't because
it was shot down.

Huh!

What if this helicopter
had ongoing mechanical issues?

What if he found maybe magnetic
affects on the helicopter

all these years later?

Based on Tom's research, is it
possible that the 1973 UFO encounter

damaged the helicopter,

which in turn caused it to crash

years later in the jungles
of Columbia?

Awesome. Tom, you have given me
so much information, thank you.

Thank you.

Tom has really gone the extra mile
in a lot of aspects of this case.

He actually tried to track down
where the helicopter went.

The question is,
are some of the problems

that contributed to the crash
related to this UFO incident?

With the similarities
of the two incidents,

how many other pilots and crew
have had experiences

like Kevin Day and Rick Jezzi?

an organisation that tracks
anonymous pilot reports

of encounters with UFOs.

Can you tell me, on average,

how many new cases do you get
reported to you from pilots?

We average about
two dozen cases a year.

Wow.

Both Kevin Day and Rick Jezzi
had unexplainable encounters

with TicTac-shaped UFOs during
their time in the military...

It really --- happened.
You think I'm lying?

..that were later
swept under the rug.

There was no follow up
from the military at all.

Not at all?
None at all.

Is the government
covering up these encounters

because they know
more than they admit?

And if so, why are they hiding
the truth from us?

Ben is meeting with the head
of an organisation

that supports victims
of UFO encounters to find out.

BEN: On average,

how many new cases

do you get reported
to you from pilots?

We average about
two dozen case a year.

Wow.

Yes, we feel it's
the tip of the iceberg.

Generally FAA will not take
them on and won't study them

and this is a very irrational
perspective in my opinion

because spending time
in the gathering of airmen,

somebody's got something
to tell me.

Ted, you've been doing this
for quite some time.

What do you think they are?
Where do you think they're from?

That's the big question.

Some of them I think
are natural phenomena

but others make
a different explanation.

They're clearly technical.

They're clearly superior
in performance

to any known aerial phenomena
including airplanes.

I have a hard time believing
that they're human technology,

wherever they're from.

Do you think we're prepared?

If this were malevolent,
if they have bad intentions,

do you think we're prepared to meet
with such superior technology?

No. No.
Unequivocally, no.

We're talking about something
very, very different

and we've had no real preparation
for it, just rumours.

If you take
all these factors together,

I don't know why the media
especially, or the government,

doesn't take more notice of these
things, because they're significant.

They could be potentially
very dangerous

and they're happening.
That's a good synopsis right there.

to collect these reports

I think is very important,

UFO pilot reports for decades

and what he concludes is that
these are not conventional craft.

They're probably not from here,
they're extra-terrestrial

and I think that is confirming

what I've been seeing
in the Coyne copter case

that are coming forward,

think about all the others
we're not receiving.

that we obtained from a more recent
case out of Beaver, Utah.

Kinda just like
your opinions on this.

Came down through
that far gully and shoo.

Extensively, this does come
from that valley, right?

It appears that way.

As long as it's away,

it's a big thing and it's going
at an extremely high speed.

Coming out of the right here.
OK, it starts to take shape.

I'm noticing the shape of it,
seems similar.

How would you describe that. I look
at it and say pill-shaped, TicTac.

Looks like a TicTac.
Yeah.

Are we perhaps looking
at the same phenomenon?

That's my personal speculation.

The craft Kevin encountered,

the one that pulled
Rick Jezzi's helicopter

and this new object out of Utah,

all share the signature
TicTac shape.

So Bruce, I'm sure
you've looked over this.

What is your take
when you initially saw this?

Well, I often wonder

whether somebody
got his head chopped off

for the release of this stuff.

Anyway, this thing, whatever
it was, was out of its cage.

Playing with us.
