we really don't have
this correlation

of a son and mother.

- There's one special woman--
Peggy.

- My name's Peggy, and I'm
the CEO of King Management.

- Peggy was able to come in,

provide him with the things
that he needed.

- At you're lowest,
she would come in

and be the fixer, basically.

She's like your therapist.

- I care. I really do.

- She'd morph into whatever
the person needed.

But she was just a wolf
in sheep's clothing.

- Peggy can call it
whatever she wants.

She stole money from Dennis,
and she used it for herself.

- I lost, lost, lost, lost
so much goddamn money,

so much friendship
and love.

- But it's not even
just about the money.

Dennis trusted her implicitly.

- Why?

Why would you do this
to somebody you love?

- Really, the most
painful part about this--

the betrayal.

- Good evening,
ladies and gentlemen,

and welcome to the NBA Final.

- The '98 championship was the
pinnacle of Rodman's career.

- He was becoming
a massive celebrity.

It was when he was first kinda

letting his freak flag fly
publicly.

- Dennis Rodman is looking
for title number five.

- I go out there,
have a good time.

I work hard.

I give the people
what they want.

- Love him or hate him,
you watched him.

Dennis got all the attention.

- Dennis was prone
to making his own rules.

- He was in there grabbing
rebounds, playing defense.

- I mean, he'll do anything.

He'll go completely horizontal
into the stands to get a ball.

- He was like
the bad boy of the NBA.

- He would get in your ear
and say crazy stuff, or--

you know, he would be grabbing
your shorts--

all kind of stuff
Dennis used to do, man.

- Dennis Rodman ejected.

- You know, people said that

Dennis Rodman's this,
Dennis Rodman's that.

What they can't deny, boy,

he's a hell
of a basketball player.

- His job was to wreak havoc.

- At the end of a long--

- He kicked the cameraman.
He was really upset.

- A very emotional player.

He loved the game, man,
and he wanted to win.

- Chicago is world champions
once more!

- Nobody had any answers,
in the end, for the Bulls.

They beat the Utah Jazz to win
another NBA championship.

- A lot of us go through

in a whole career
and never get that.

To do it five times
is incredible.

- But he was now in a
different realm of celebrity.

- No one was as exciting,

on the court
and off the court.

You'll have an 80-year-old
woman walk up to him,

wanting to take him home.

- It was a frenzy around him.

- He kind of dances
to the beat of his own drum

because he does not care
what anyone thinks about him,

for better or worse.

Prior to Dennis, tattoos
were very taboo in the NBA.

He was the first person
to really

bring tattoos
into popular culture.

Full sleeves,
tattoos on his neck--

he started coloring his hair,

and he just really
just went wild.

- In the sports world,
it freaked everyone out.

People just didn't know
what to do with it.

- All right. Hey, everybody.

- He started dating Madonna.

- Thanks, Madonna.

Thanks, Madonna.
- Thank you.

- He started expressing
some ideas

that were not common
for American athletes.

- Isn't that daring?
Isn't that just devilish?

And most athletes
would never do that.

They would never do that.

- Rodman was scheduled to
autograph copies of his book,

"Bad As I Wanna Be,"
which happens to be

too bad for family viewing.

Dennis showed up
in a horse-drawn carriage.

- He just was different,
and he was comfortable

being different
and took it to another level.

- He was no wife-to-be,

but that didn't stop
the frenzy.

This lady fainted
in the crush.

- There is no one else
like Dennis Rodman.

He is one of a kind.

- We know you signed
for $9 million.

- Somewhat like--
something like that.

- For Reebok.

You are paid fairly.

- i--

I think I'm underpaid
about a half million.

- About a half a million?

At that rate, you care?

- You know, a half mil--
I could, you know,

take the half mil and party
with my closest friends.

- He made many millions
of dollars a year.

But it's not a secret.
I mean, Dennis likes to party.

- Oh, man, I was assigned
by "Sports Illustrated"

to do a feature on Dennis.

I introduced myself and told
him I wanted to hang out

and, you know,
spend some time with him.

He said, "Bro, we're in LA.

We're gonna party, bro.
Come on."

It was madness.

We went on a four-night,
four-day, three-state bender.

He really consumes alcohol
at a freakish level.

And then I wrote
the infamous cover story

as Dennis
and his stripper friend

made noises
in the other bedroom,

and a friendship was born.

- Looking at
some basketball news,

it's time for another chapter
of "As the Worm Turns."

Dennis Rodman is retiring.

- When Dennis retired
from the NBA,

he had millions of dollars,

and he was one of the more
fortunate pro athletes

who have retired with
tremendous earning potential.

- Dennis live from Ocean Manor
in Fort Lauderdale.

- What's up, Andy and Sandy,
San Antonio?

- There was no shortage
of people that wanted

to do business with Dennis.

My job is to help Dennis
make money,

to get him in great deals,
to make the money,

not to manage it.

- Dennis didn't love
balancing his checkbook

or figuring out
a retirement strategy.

I always worried
about his future

because I know he's not
keeping track

of money and details.

- I've represented dozens
of athletes in issues

involving investment fraud
and investment mismanagement,

everywhere from theft
from their accounts

to Ponzi schemes,
fraudulent investments.

Athletes and entertainers
are easy targets

because everybody knows
they make a lot of money.

A person will get a foot
in the circle with one athlete.

They're at events,
they're at parties.

They're able to build
this false sense of trust.

- Does Dennis Rodman
like to party?

Does a bear shit in the woods

and wipe his ass
with a fluffy white rabbit?

My good friend
starts a breakfast--

full vodka sodas.

That's breakfast.

I meet Dennis Rodman
at Fashion Week.

Me and Dennis hung out
for about a year and a half.

Hard--very, very hard.

I mean, we go to a strip club.

We got some money rolling.

We spend 2,000 a day.

And if we really cutting up,

we'll spend 5,000
at the nightclub.

You know, there's been times
where I had

a $100,000
American Express Card,

and that ain't got
no more juice on it.

- Dennis thought, "I never
expected to have a dime.

This is all crazy,
what's happened to me.

He tried to surround himself
with people that he thought

were his people and hoped
that they'd take care

of a lot of the adult stuff.

- I was part
of King Management Group.

Dennis said, "Elkin, I want you
to run everything--

"run everything.

"You're my point guy.

You're my--you're my dude."

Now King Management Group
got something.

- Somebody Dennis works with
called me and said,

"Hey, Dennis has
a new business manager.

Her name is Peggy.
You gotta go meet her."

- My name's Peggy, and I'm
the CEO of King Management.

King management is
a company I founded

because I wanted to help
professional athletes

manage their finances.

- Dennis met me at her house.

She was living in this
8,000 square foot mansion

in a very
prestigious neighborhood--

ocean access, 150-foot dock
that you could put

a yacht back there
and get on the ocean.

Nice cars out front.

We waited for a few minutes,
and down the stairs,

like, making a grand entrance
is this woman.

She's like, "Hi, I'm Peggy."

She was put together--
hair, nails, diamonds--

boom, boom, boom.

She had all that going,
kind of like ghetto fabulous.

She said she was an attorney.

She had a little Harvard degree
in her office.

She had a lot of charisma.

And she had a very successful
sports management business,

including clients
like Travis Best

and Rashad McCants.

She said, "My brother, Elkin,
is gonna be doing

some of the day-to-day stuff."

And someone who was helping
Peggy I just assumed

would be good for Dennis.

- I guess our roles
in King Management Group was,

I was more operations.

She was more financial.

I gotta get him to the gigs.

I live in his building.

I drive him everywhere.

I wake him up.

I put his ass to sleep.

Peggy--she's the back
of the house.

She collects the money

and makes all the things happen
behind the scenes.

- I thought
it would be good for Dennis.

She would give him, like,
an allowance.

She was gonna pay his bills,

make sure his taxes
were filed,

and take care
of child support issues.

That was what she used
to get him drawn into her web.

If I had only known
at that time,

I would have told Dennis, run.

- Dennis was family.

He would always talk about
my dad being his dad,

Elkin being his son,

and I mean, we had
a very close relationship.

I mean, we were
always hanging out.

Dennis had an open-door
policy to my home.

Dennis was at my home
almost every single day.

He never would say,
"Hey, I'm coming over."

He would just show up.

He went into my refrigerator.

He ate my food.

I mean, it was almost like
he lived there.

But Dennis was so broken

and wanted to put back
the pieces--

the broken pieces.

- Peggy played a role
in his life

that he needed at that time.

Like many people,
Dennis has had to struggle

with his own demons.

She was that
motherly figure for him--

like, Dennis,
you shouldn't be doing this.

You know, maybe you shouldn't
drink as much,

or maybe you should do this.

And it got him to trust her.

- I didn't have a mother.

I think my mother--me and her,

we really don't have
this correlation

of a son and mother.

I've been by myself
for so long.

- Dennis grew up
in total abject poverty.

Father left their family
soon after he was born,

so the family moved
to Dallas--

Dennis and his two sisters
and his mother,

and they lived in the
South Oak Cliff projects.

He never felt properly loved.

He had a lot of conflict
with his mother.

And at a certain point, she
kicked him out of the house.

He ends up growing a bunch,
and all of the sudden,

this 5'11" awkward kid
is 6'7" now,

which, it's definitely
not a ticket to the NBA,

but it could at least get you
onto a very, very small

college team that'll take
a gamble on your potential.

He did the rest.

- I get off the bus
and walk to the gym every day.

Before a game, I go to a gym.

After practice, go to a gym.
After the game, be in the gym.

- He was drafted in the second
round by the Detroit Pistons.

- They were tough.
They were blue collar.

Dennis came and fit right in.

- Rodman with a push.

- We got in many fights
with Detroit.

- Laimbeer will come back
with a uppercut.

- They were bad boys.

- He was the new
wrestling villain.

- One of the most physical,
dominant players,

doing a lot of the dirty work.

- He kind of built
his own brand,

and it worked for him.

- Dennis was this
big character

who demanded attention,

and wanting to do
things his own way.

- He ended up not only
making the NBA

but becoming
a full-fledged superstar.

- Peggy had a lot of love
for Dennis Rodman

because she saw that
he was a lonely soul.

- You wanna be humble,
and--and--and--

- You can say it, Dennis.
You wanna be loved.

- It's kind of hard
for me to say.

- The role that Peggy assumed
in Dennis's life

was all-encompassing--
in his personal affairs,

in his business affairs.

Peggy was not going
to charge Dennis

any fees for her services.

However, she was going
to make a percentage

on any gains
of any investments.

I thought it was a little odd.

I don't know anyone doing taxes
and bill-paying service

that's not charging something.

And what was
most insidious was,

she started getting power
of attorney.

So when Dennis would
perform a deal,

we would receive his money.

She set up some accounts.

Peggy gave us
the wiring information,

and we sent it to where
he wanted us to send it.

- Any time you're in a position
of fame and glory,

you're gonna always
attract the vultures

that's gonna come out
and take advantage of you.

- Young athletes might
make a few million a year,

but you know,
the big contracts, nowadays--

you're looking at 10, 20,
30, 40 million a year.

And there's bad advisors
out there

taking advantage of athletes.

Once they have a big-name
client, people assume,

"Well, they're--you know,
probably pretty good."

- By this time, Peggy had
won the trust of others

with her roster, now including
more NBA and NFL stars.

- Most people know me
as Ricky Williams.

- And Ricky Williams
explodes down the sidelines.

- I was a running back,
and I was known for being

explosive and physical.

- Ricky Williams is one
of the great

college football players--

big, fast, strong, relentless.

Every time you turned
on a highlight,

he was just running through
people and past people.

He looked like a man
amongst boys.

- Moving from college
to the NFL--

it affected my mental health.

But the feedback I got was
"shut up and run the ball."

When I first met Peggy,
I'd just turned 22.

I buy this house,
and never really had anything.

One day, I was at the store
looking for furniture,

and Peggy was there.

And she helped me go around the
French Quarter and collect art

and just the little knickknacks
to make the place look nice,

you know, like a woman's touch.

After that, anything that
I needed help with,

she would come in and assist.

In that way,
she started to build trust.

- Yeah, I think Dennis Rodman
and Ricky Williams

both have trust issues because
of where they came from,

and you know, Ricky has
documented social anxiety.

That's a real thing.

- Ricky Williams
is my best friend.

I think Ricky and Peggy
clicked so well

because Ricky's the quiet one
and Peggy's the outgoing one.

I started working with Peggy
to just run errands

and things like that,
so that's how

we actually really got close.

- Ricky Williams is a star.

He's at the top.

And all of a sudden,
he walks away from all of it.

- I failed a drug test,
but I chose to retire

after the failed drug test.

People looked at it
as I chose cannabis,

marijuana over football.

After that, I was,
like, outcast.

Peggy was very helpful
in helping me

get back on my feet.

- At your lowest, she would
come in and be the fixer.

She's like your therapist.

She was the person
that could come around

and kinda be like
a counselor to you

and kinda talk you through
whatever negative,

bad things that
you were going through.

- Ricky Williams
and his wife Kristen

are some of my best friends.

We have a very, very,
very special bond.

I consider him like a brother.

I care. I really do.

- Peggy had endeared herself
to Ricky

in a motherly sort of way.

Peggy was just
so part of our family

and ingrained in our lives.

When I had our first child,

she even brought me home
from the hospital.

She just makes you feel like
you're the only thing

in the world that matters.

- But she was just a wolf
in sheep's clothing.

- Ladies and gentlemen,
Dennis Rodman.

- When you're selected
to the Basketball Hall of Fame,

that's being
anointed as royalty.

- That moment when he
stepped off that carpet

and hugged both of us--

it was just
a very exhilarating moment.

I was sitting in the audience
with Peggy,

and I'm looking at her,
and I was like,

"I hope he doesn't
mess this speech up."

She goes, "Me, too, baby."

- Peggy King, Elkin King,
the family that--

these guys are taking care
of me these days.

Thank you, Peggy.

- It was very significant.

It just showed you how close
that they really were.

She had her hooks in very deep.

- That one moment in life--

I was probably his best friend
in the whole wide world.

- There were significant
warning signs

of what was to come next.

Something just did not add up

about Elkin's relationship
with Peggy.

- Elkin was always
in the picture.

And I was told that he was
Peggy's youngest brother.

But then I started to become
a little suspicious of Elkin

and noticed that he had
a tattoo on his upper arm

that said "King," and that was
one of Peggy's married names,

so that wouldn't have been
Elkin's last name.

But when I ask about it,

they said that he felt
like he was a King.

- The whole time,
she was lying,

and Elkin was her son.

- People who are willing
to lie about their children

are pretty much gonna be
willing to lie about anything.

- I'm looking back--

I'm sitting here
thinking to myself,

"And why wasn't that
a red flag?"

- Peggy laid out
the red carpet

for me being the brother.

I meet somebody,
and they say, "Oh,

your sister told me
all about you."

Well, you're kinda jumped
in the situation.

- All right, I'm gonna blow out
the candles.

- You make a wish?
- That one? Okay.

- What am I gonna do?

I'm not gonna embarrass
my family member.

- It was suspicious.

But at the time,
there were a lot of things

just kind of overlooked.

Peggy had all of the charm
in the world,

and she would straight up
look you in the eye

and squash any doubt
that you had.

2009, Peggy actually has
our wedding reception

at her house.

And thank you, Peggy.

- She had a chef.

She had everything going on.

It looked amazing.

- I look up,
and Dennis Rodman was there.

- All right.

- Peggy actually
had invited him.

- Peggy, you've found
something that most people,

like me, can't get.

Life is good. And guess what?

It is amazing that
you always do one thing.

You change you for the better--

for the better,
and it's amazing.

- He actually had the
loveliest toast of the night.

- There's one special woman

we have to appreciate
right now,

that did this whole thing
for Ricky and Kristen today.

Peggy.

- So almost from the beginning
when Peggy took over

Dennis's finances,
there were problems.

Dennis would call me--

AJ, my cable is turned off.

AJ, I just got home.
My power is off.

I'm like, "What do you mean,
your power is off?

What are you talking about?"

The landlord's calling me.

Where's the money?

He's got money.

Why are his bills
not being paid?

- Peggy seemed to be
making a lot of money.

She had all these diamonds on.

She had Gucci everything,
all the way down to,

her shoes were Gucci.

- So I just told Dennis, "Hey,
keep an eye on your accounts.

"Make sure she gives
you a statement

"so you can see the debits
and credits,

what's coming, what's going."

And I thought
that was happening,

but clearly, it wasn't.

- Dennis Rodman
was broke as a joke, okay?

The guy could literally sit
at that bar for 25 minutes

and run up a $200 tab.

And there's all of these people
gerrating and kaboushing

and drinking all his liquor.

And oh, order this.

- Any comment--
any comment about the finances?

- Comment about the finances.

He's broke and sick, mother
, and we're over it.

He just wasn't
making enough money--

not enough money coming in
to pay , period.

Nope, no more money.
We're done.

- Don't run the check.

- You know what I call it?
I call it millionaire broke.

He's hot
during the basketball season,

but there is a cold period
where we don't make nothing.

- That's actually not true.

He spends money, but, you know,
he makes a lot of money.

Dennis was booming.

He was on "The Celebrity
Apprentice" with Donald Trump.

- Dennis, you're fired.

- He was doing business deals
that included licensing,

appearances, television,
and film.

- An international conspiracy.

- I need a partner.
- I'm the man.

- And so there's no reason why

he shouldn't be able
to pay his bills.

- Here we go, baby.

Every day is a chance for me...

- Dennis had some child
support issues in California.

I didn't understand why

the child support
wasn't getting paid.

Peggy was supposed to
handle those things.

And I'm blowing up Peggy like,

"Peggy, what is going on
with this?

He should be able
to easily pay this."

- You owe $800,000
in child support.

- Right.

- I mean, they call--they call
men like that deadbeat dads.

- I'm not a
deadbeat dad at all.

- You've paid child support?

- Yeah, I pay child support.

- Through the
child support case,

he had to turn over
financial disclosures.

There were purchases being made
from Dennis accounts,

and his attorney
was asking him, "Hey,

"did you make this purchase
of $2,000 at Victoria's Secret?

"Did you buy these
plane tickets to Paris?

Did you pay for this?
Did you pay for that?"

And Dennis was like,
"I have no idea

what any of those charges are."

He's like,
"Something's going on."

It was that point
that she explained why

she was spending money
from Dennis's account.

Peggy told us she was trying
to hide money

from her ex-husband,
putting some of her money

in Dennis's accounts to pay
for things she was doing,

which was a total lie.

Nobody would do that.

She was a total fraud.

- I think that she kept
feeding herself this lie

over and over again,
that she just lived

in this storybook world.

- The walls were starting
to close in,

things were starting
to catch up with her.

- This call
is from a federal prison.

This call is from--

- Peggy.

I don't deserve to be here.

I really don't.

- For reasons that
none of us can explain,

Dennis kept Peggy on
as his financial advisor.

- He tended to ignore problems

and kind of push them away
to try to avoid them.

- How are you doing
financially?

- I'm okay.

I'm okay, brother.
Like I say, I'm okay.

- Dennis sometimes
makes decisions

no one can understand but him.

- So there's a gentleman who
calls one of Dennis's agents,

and he says, I want Dennis
to go to North Korea

and meet Kim Jong-un.

- They have a lot
of human rights violations,

a lot of problems over there.

I fought against this deal,
but I couldn't stop it.

- The proposal was,

he's already asked
Michael Jordan.

wrong.

He's already asked
Scottie Pippen.

Nah.

Will you bums go?

I mean, yeah, we like money.

Yeah, we'll go.

- He's had his uncle executed,

hasn't met
with any foreign dignitaries,

but he's warmly receiving

an eccentric ex-basketball
player, Dennis Rodman.

- It's my first time.

I think it's most these guys'
first time here,

so hopefully
they're gonna be okay, and...

- The premise of the trip was
that we're gonna use sports

to introduce ourselves
to a Communist country

that we aren't,
like, cool with, right?

So I get off the plane.

It's a lot like Rocky
when he gets off the plane,

and like the Russians,
you know?

It's, like, this snow thing.

I got my coat on,
and there's Dennis.

And I look at him like, dude,
why the are we here?

But at the end of the day,
Kim and Rodney got cool.

It was just chill.

They had a vibe.

- While this was going on,

Peggy's lies were really
beginning to unravel

here in the U.S.

- I started to realize that
there was trouble.

Summer of 2013, and I got
a letter from the IRS,

and they said I owed them
over $350,000 in taxes.

- I was, of course,
in a complete panic

because the IRS
does not make mistakes.

- Kristen called me,
and she explained to me

that the IRS
was asking for money.

And my first thing to her was,
doesn't Peggy pay your taxes?

Then I pause, and I'm like,
"She didn't pay your taxes.

Like, wow."

- People are taking me serious
as more of a, uh, you know,

you could say similar
to ambassador now.

- The trip was like...

You ever seen
"The Truman Show"?

Just--everybody lied
to us about everything.

Like, oh what's that parade?

Oh, it's the parade
for you guys.

No, it was, like, for the
nuclear testing scientists.

- Basketball star
Dennis Rodman

and North Korean dictator
Kim Jong-un

chumming it up courtside
in Pyongyang.

They watched
the Harlem Globetrotters

play basketball as part
of a new show being filmed.

- I said, yeah,
he's my friend,

because he gave me
the opportunity

to at least come
in the country of North Korea

to bring a basketball team
over there to show the world,

to just show the world that
we can actually get along--

Americans and North Korea.

- I knew Kristen
was not gonna be quiet

and just let it go.

- Peggy claimed to be
a Harvard-educated attorney.

I called
the Florida Bar Association,

the Georgia Bar Association,
the Louisiana Bar,

anybody that I could think of
any place that she had lived.

I just started going
down a checklist,

and no one knew her.

- She had lied about
her Harvard Law School,

and we discovered that Peggy
had so many different aliases.

- Peggy Bérard, Peggy King,
Peggy Williams, Peggy Fulford.

She appeared to be
a pathological liar.

- I literally went back
to day one,

replaying
our whole relationship

over and over again,
of how many times

she had a different alias
or a different husband

or anything like that.

Like, is Peggy really her name?

- We start looking at every
place that all of our money

and all of our investments
are.

We have accounts there
but don't really have

the money in them anymore.

- Not even a dime.

She left him with nothing.

- There's really no words to
describe waking up to find out

that you don't have $1
in your checking account,

much less
the millions of dollars

Ricky had earned
in the past few years.

- We put our trust in her,
and this is what you did.

Why would you do this
to somebody you love?

She's one of Ricky's
kid's god-moms.

You just took everything--

like, literally everything,
so yeah.

- There's no way to find out
what's going on

without hiring attorneys.

- When Ricky filed
his civil suit

in federal court in Houston,

it was the beginning
of the end for Peggy.

Dennis got back
from North Korea,

and he found his reputation
in tatters.

- I'm not the president.

I'm not an ambassador.

I'm Dennis Rodman,
just an individual,

just showing the world the fact
that we can actually get along

and be happy for one day.

I love to see that--
I love to see--uh.

- Hey, hey, yeah, come on, now.

- When you call this ruler
your friend, Dennis,

you can't pretend
like you don't get

why people are upset.

- I don't give a rat's ass
what the hell you think.

- It was bananas.

People were sending
death threats

with their personal
email accounts.

- I wish I could rewind
time and say,

"Hell, no, we won't go."

We thought we were heroes.

We come home,
we're zeroes.

- Going there caused
a lot of problems

for Dennis's business.

- When you have a dinner date
with Public Enemy Number One,

it's kind of hard to go get
some corporate America money.

- Probably lost
probably $1 million in deals.

And I think this crippled
Peggy's efforts to forecast

and how much money
she's gonna have coming in.

She couldn't continue to do
what she was doing,

robbing Peter
to pay Paul over here,

taking money from here
and going there.

Dennis had a $250,000 deal

to go to Qatar
to play basketball.

That was canceled.

And we called Peggy
like, "Hey, listen,

you gotta send
that deposit back."

And she's like, "Oh, you know,

"I invested it
in these accounts,

and it's--now it's tied up."

We're like, "We told you
not to touch that money.

Like, why would you do that?"

- Does it matter?

Does it matter
what was going on with her?

We was living life.

got out of control.

You know what
the "Titanic" did?

Sank.

It was a beautiful ship.

It was called
King Management Group.

- I got a phone call:

"This is the FBI,"
and my heart dropped.

I'm like, the FBI? Like, what?

And he's like,
"Yes, we're calling you

about the Peggy situation."

And I said, "Finally."

- So the FBI called, and they
wanted to have a meeting.

And he brought two bankers'
boxes full of documents.

And he explained that Peggy
had opened 85 bank accounts.

You didn't mishear me.

She had 85 bank accounts
that she set up.

We'd put in money in Dennis's
account and send him 85 grand.

By 3:00, she would sweep
the entire 85,000 out.

Dennis didn't have access
to any of these accounts.

And what was crazy is that she
would then falsify documents

as to why there was no money.

It just really showed
how brazen of a crime this was.

I was, like, completely done--
like, this is crazy.

I was like, "Dennis,
you need to fire her, man.

This is insane."

- If a thief has access
to an athlete's bank accounts,

they can just completely
drain the account,

so it could be millions.

In this case, it was millions.

- We realized
that we're paying

for Peggy's lavish lifestyle--

the Bentley, the Rolls-Royce,
the Range Rovers,

all of her homes.

I was actually with her
when she spent $800

on her hair extensions.

I'm standing beside her
as she's paying for it

with a credit card
that is actually

linked to our accounts.

Looking back, I realized
that the wedding was just

another way to take our money.

The flowers, the food,
the beverage--

she tells us that it cost
twice what it actually did.

- There's no way you could
deny what was happening.

Dennis was really, I think,
at a point of acceptance.

I think he finally was like,
"This is not something

that can be explained."

And so in 2015,
Dennis finally fires Peggy.

- Whew.

Okay.

My last working gig
with Dennis Rodman was,

we went to Moscow,

and we did, like, a gala
for President Putin.

We got into a huge fight.

The fight was concerning me
and my mother--

or me and Peggy--

were stealing all of his money.

And he...

called my mother a whore.

So I punched him--

I uppercutted him.

So that was a wrap.

I ain't seen him since.

- When the Feds
showed up at my door,

that's when it kinda
all came to a head.

- The FBI blew the lid
off this whole thing,

about her capabilities,
and if she was

who she really said she was.

Peggy is actually
a very smart person.

She's very smart.

She's very industrious.

She was like
a black widow of banking.

It takes a lot of time to
keep track of all these wires

and money coming in and out

and setting up
powers of attorney.

- She was charismatic,

she was good at
earning people's trust,

so I could see why
people would have thought

that she was legitimate.

- Peggy would do
what most con artists do.

She'd morph into whatever
the person needed.

She was that good--

getting her hooks into people,

being that person
that you needed her to be,

and exploiting that weakness,

and that's what made her
so effective.

- Dennis and myself,
I'm sure when people meet us,

they see someone and they
treat us a certain way.

With Peggy, it was different.

She made it easy,
and I think that's how

she developed my trust.

- She infiltrated my life.

She became my best friend.

In her exact words, I was
the sister that she never had.

- She could have had
a very successful business,

but instead,
she decided to just steal,

and that's what brought
the whole house of cards down.

- Hmm, how about
the day it started?

It all went wrong the day
it started, you know?

It's like putting
a LEGO piece together

that's just not straight
all the way up.

It's just kind of crooked,
but you keep working with it,

and you try to bend it.

- I think the mania started
spiraling out of control.

The mania that I have
is the high mania.

It's like an addiction,
you know,

if you wanna equate it
to drug addiction.

You get these high periods
where everything is utopia.

And you may go on
a shopping spree.

You may go on a vacation
or whatever--

I mean, no different than
a person who's an alcoholic

and stopped drinking.

Mania makes you feel
like you're invincible.

- Peggy can call it
whatever she wants.

She stole money
from these players,

and she used it for herself.

- Of course.
Nothing I did was intentional.

Nothing I did was malicious
or anything like that.

- She's just not gonna take
responsibility

for what she did.

Other people with mania
aren't out there

running, you know,
multimillion-dollar

fraudulent
criminal enterprises.

- This was not a criminal case.

This was a civil issue.

That's my story,
and I'm sticking to it.

- I really struggle to believe
that Peggy was the only person

involved in this fraud.

- So how about going
from sugar to

real fast without a refinery?

I went from sugar to .

Do you know I had to move
to California?

Do you know people
were Googling me

and calling me a criminal
and calling me a con artist?

Arrest me for what?

All I am is just some dude
who runs around the world

with another dude and tries
to collect some damn money.

I don't touch the financials.

That wasn't my bag.

Period.

I spoke to the FBI

in the New Orleans
field office

for four hours.

We went through
financial record

after financial--
oh, what is this for?

What is that for?

How come
you couldn't indict me?

Oh, because guess what?

I never made a what?

A withdrawal from a bank.

All deposits.

He told me I'm either
the smartest mother

he ever seen or the dumbest.

- Once you turn
a blind eye to something,

it attracts predators.

I chose not to be aware of what
was going on with my finances,

and I invited disaster.

Any industry where
you're giving a lot of money

to people who don't have
an experience with money--

it's wide open for people
to come

and take advantage of that.

- When you entrust
your life with somebody,

you would think that person had
your best interests at heart,

and a lot of times, they don't.

As players, we need
to pay more attention

of our finances.

- Dennis Rodman
lost about $2 million.

For the average person, that's
about a lifetime of earnings.

- No money in the world
can take me to hate you.

That's all I wanted
to hear you say.

"I'm sorry,"
and actually, you mean it.

- When I heard Dennis say that
in that interview,

it kind of blew my mind
because he was so forgiving,

considering the deception.

It's not even just
about the money.

It's about
the psychological damage

that something like this
can do to someone

who trusts you implicitly.

- Whatever I do in this life,
in this business, I prevail.

- But Dennis
is very resilient.

I don't think he'd ever
fall victim to anything

like this again.

He is one of a kind.

There'll never be
another one like him.

- It's time for me
to win a little bit.

You know, I lost, lost, lost,
lost so much goddamn money,

so much friendship,
love.

Now, all of a sudden now,
it's coming back to me now.
