In this lecture we're going to be learning how to draw the ear.

Now the here is really complicated.

So I'm gonna break it down in some simple steps so help me draw.

So first let's draw the ear from the side view that's I think the most easiest way to draw the ear.

So let's go ahead and we'll start by drawing a circle like this.

And that's going to be the top part of the ear and we're gonna draw another little circle down here

and that's going to raise represent the bottom part kind of the ear lobe area.

All right.

And then from there what we want to do is we want to kind of start turning these two circles into more

of an ear like shape.

So we want to start first by drawing that your lobe.

So it's just going to kind of hang down like this and everybody's ear is slightly different.

So again I definitely recommend that you look at some reference start studying people in our life to

get an idea of all the different type of years out there some are big small have different shapes some

are more rounds from are more angular.

So we've got our ear lobe that kind of dips down a little bit further than that circle.

And then we're gonna have a line that kind of comes out like this and then connects like that.

So just kind of a curve like that.

Now we can go ahead and draw like this and then I like to kind of angle the tops of my years but again

it just depends on the person that you're drawing.

So I'd like to kind of do a straight line like that straight line like this and then curve it like that

to the head

right.

Great.

Once we've done that then I'd like to go ahead and I like to start with this little tab so there's kind

of a little tab if you look at your own ear there's kind of a tab it sticks out like that and that tab

kind of loops around like this and creates kind of this dark chasm area in here and it kind of comes

back like that and that's going to turn into another part of the ear.

But for now let's just draw that keeping it nice and simple.

This tab is going to kind of move its way up like that and what's going to happen is there's going to

be kind of a slight form that kind of comes around like that and overlaps this and comes into the inside

of the ear and then the other side of that will be right about here

and that's going to kind of pull its way out and just curve around like this.

So once we have the tab I like to just kind of draw this curve that starts somewhere right about in

there and just curves around on the outside of that year so this actually is kind of an overhang kind

of overhangs.

If you were to draw the form lines in there you can see that it kind of overhangs like that.

It's kind of around right.

That's going to hang down into here and it's gonna make its way all the way around and down to the bottom

where that your lobe is.

So somewhere about there then this is going to kind of split right here and turn into another round

form and that's gonna make its way up to the top of the year so we can just kind of curve this around

like this.

I kind of like to do a straight line there and then a curve but it can just be one big curve if you

want.

And this is gonna be kind of like a Y shape so you can see that if I go and draw this shape in right

there just kind of a U shape and then draw the other side and it kind of creates that y.

So you always want to remember that under this overhang up here is this Y shape and then this is going

to come all the way down and kind of slightly taper back in here.

And that actually kind of smooths right into that right there.

All right great.

And then what we can do is we can kind of just go ahead and shade and show where the really dark chasm

like areas of the year are so right there.

It's not gonna be super dark here but a little bit darker it'll be dark in here.

Same with up in here.

All right great.

So there you go.

There's had a draw that you're from the side.

So simple enough.

Now this might take some practicing and I almost always recommend that if you're gonna draw a more real

scare on your character you should look at some reference especially at the angle you're going to be

drawing them.

But if you're just gonna be drawing some simple characters with very simplified shapes and lines then

having this decent understanding will help you and you don't probably need to look at reference every

time.

You could probably just draw something simple like kind of the idea of this round shape like that and

then maybe the shape that just kind of this little tab that sticks out there and kind of curls around

like that you know something like that might be enough for your character design.

All right let's talk about how to draw that year from the side view.

So if we're looking at a person straight on what does it look like on the side of their head.

Well it's very similar to this but it kind of just gets squashed show what we can do is we can do the

same thing again we kind of draw that little guy right there but it's going to be more squash like an

oval and we'll do the same thing for this big guy up here just like that.

And what we're gonna get is so we get that your lobe down here like we got before

this whole angle out a little bit

all right.

So there's the basic shape but this part here you can't really tell from this view.

But this Y shape it kind of protrudes out right about in this area.

So what that's going to look like on our ear you can kind of curve that in actually a little bit more.

Well that's going to look like on our ears it'll start down here around the ear lobe and kind of pop

out right there and then I'll pop back in just like that.

And we want to draw this overhang part in so the overhang will be right about there.

And from this view it just kind of is a straight line down into that tab that we get right there.

Now move that up actually just a little bit more to right about there.

So there's a tab we get this kind of chasm area in there which then kind of runs into this Y shape

like that.

So it's very similar.

It's just this part kind of pops out so it kind of covers up this back edge and then even though this

kind of smooths out right there you don't see it kind of transition down into this area.

This part still does do that.

And so it's gonna come down and you'll still kind of see that inside that year so somewhere right about

there you'll kind of see that form in there.

And that's a good way to kind of understand the ear as well as it just kind of draw some construction

lines.

You can see I can draw some round lines there and that kind of helps you understand what's going on

with the year.

Exactly.

This is also kind of a round form

that can go ahead and darken in these areas that are kind of like dark chasms.

All right.

So there is the ear from the side.

Now let's go ahead and draw that you're from the back.

So from the back the ear is actually pretty simple.

We kind of get a shape that kind of angles like that and then straight down and then back at that angle.

So what does this look like.

Well we can go ahead and kind of sketching it along over like that maybe connect with another straight

to straight lines and then do kind of another overlay this and that's going to kind of connect back

almost like a plunger type of shape.

So kind of like that that'll connect back to the head.

So we get the bottom or the back of the jaw right there and then the head actually kind of extends out

a little bit further up towards the top so maybe somewhere right about there

right.

And then we can go ahead and kind of detail that out more.

So for example we can kind of shape this out a little bit more.

Give it a little bit more of an ear shape

then down here would be the back of it your lobe

maybe I can around this out a little bit more

then I'll go ahead and shape this in just kind of represents kind of behind there so it's getting a

little bit of shadow.

All right.

So there's that you're from the back.

It's just kind of this this form right here attached to this plunger shape and that's basically what

it looks like from the back.

All right.

That brings us to the end of this lecture.

So just remember that depending on what type of character you're drawn you might not even need to know

how to draw the you're in this much detail because you might just be simplifying it to something just

incredibly simple but it is good to have a decent understanding of what the year looks like and how

to draw it.
