All language subtitles for 6. How to Apply Transitions Between Clips

So in this video I'm going to show you how to apply basic transitions between your clips in your timeline

so you can make really nice logs and I'll get straight into it I'll show you the ones that I like to

use in other videos.

I'll explain how to do things like a loom fade and other things like that but I like to keep my transitions

very basic so I'll show you real quick.

So I got here a vlog on your screen right now and this is one that I created yesterday and I've got

some clips on my timeline here already.

So video clips just like that.

And the first transition that I like is very very basic.

It's just the straight cut that's all.

So I'll play this back and you'll see what I mean.

Have a cut some slow music cut and then another cut coming up.

Cut cut.

So as you can see I've just got simple cuts between my video clips and my time line so you don't need

to be too fancy with your transitions.

I like to keep my transitions very basic that way people don't get too distracted when they watch my

logs.

They're not distracted from the story that I'm trying to tell.

You'll find that usually the simpler you transitions the more engaged your audience will be when they

watch you have logs.

They're not going to be you know distracted with really quirky and cheesy transitions but that's one

that you can use.

And I like to use on and I still use on a consistent basis.

The second that I like to use is the cross dissolve and I'll show you how to do that.

So if you click on these if you go over here you'll see there's two arrows click on that go down to

effects or open up this window here if you see where it says.

Video transitions click on the arrow and then see where it says dissolve click on that.

I've got some dissolves in here which I like the ones that I do like the most cross dissolve to black

and dip to white.

These three some other very favorite transitions that are very easy to apply and look to be honest with

you.

You can just go into the search box here type in cross and then it will automatically pop up here or

you can talk and dip and automatically when I type in dip here in the search dip to black and tip to

white automatically pop up down here.

So you don't need to go through the tedious task of you know drop down menu drop down menu.

You know I mean it's like three clicks but you know I just find that it's easier just to type it in

search type and dip and they will come up there.

Type in cross and we'll come up down here cross dissolve.

So if I take this transition and I drag it over to my timeline I can drop this transition either on

one side or I can drop it between the two clips and I typically drop my transition between my two clips

like that.

Now if I zoom in if I hold down the old care my keyboard zoom in you'll see that the transition has

been applied across both clips if I play that back.

This is what it looks like

now it's obviously a little slow.

It's a little slow because I'm also recording my screen but play that one more time.

OK so that's one transition.

The next one that I like is dip to black if I click on this and drag it over the next two clips.

Watch this.

This is about dip to black looks like to the clip itself will get more dipped to black and then fade

into the next clip right.

The next one I like is dipped to white.

If I drag that over between the next two clips this is what it looks like.

So instead of dipping to black it's going to dip to white this time just like that so that's their.

They're my favorite ones that I like.

Now show you some cool things you can do.

Now start with the first transition here I've got my cross dissolved between these two clips.

Now I can make this effect occur over a greater length of time.

All I need to do is click on the transition and if I move my mouse you'll see that my cursor changes

right.

See that cursor change when it changes.

I know that I've hit the end of that that transition and I can click and drag that out so that my transition

is now going to take place over a greater period of time between my two clips watch this

a much longer transition if I grab the same transition and I shrink it right in the transition will

take place over a much abrupt more abrupt and much shorter period of time.

Now if you listen closely this is kind of going on beyond here.

You hear the music that's playing in the background and then listen to the abruptness of the music right

here that beat in the in the music right.

So that transition being so short and abrupt like that is almost appropriate to the background music

that's playing.

If I take that transition and I make it longer now remember I can also double click on this transition

for double click on the transition this duration window pops up.

I can make the duration longer just like that.

Right.

All now that transition is taking longer to to pay back.

But I mean here the background track so for me doesn't sound right.

But that's completely up to your creative decision how you want your transitions to sync in with your

background track.

OK.

Now if I click on this transition here I want to show you this.

If I go over to effects controls over here in the top left hand side if I click on this transition you'll

see I've got some controls that I can apply with my transition so if I click on this I can elect to

have one side of my transition longer so watch on my timeline what happens.

So now my cross dissolve is taking effect more on this side of the clip than this side over here.

If I drag that in and stretch this side out you'll see the opposite occurs.

Watch this.

Okay.

So you can play around with it but typically what I do is I usually just drag the whole thing into center

like that between my two clips just like that.

So if I move along I've got here dipped to black and again I can shorten this make it longer so that

the effect takes time a nice gradual drop to black and I can do the same thing with the next one.

Last thing I want to show you is how you can set default transitions so if I go over to if I just delete

that for example and delete the next one if I go between my two clips if I click and if I right click

serious has applied default transitions if I click on that it automatically is going to drop in the

transition between the two clips that set as the default.

So if I do this I actually it's already there see where it says it dipped to black on the left hand

side here and there's a blue box around this transition.

That means that dip to Black is set as the current default transition.

If I want to change my default transition I can right click on this click on set selected as default

transition so I can now make dip to white my new default transition.

I'll do that right now click on this.

You'll see the blue box will now change if I move over to my next two clips on my timeline right click

apply.

Default transitions you'll see now that the transition that's set as the default is dipped to white

not dipped to black.

And the last thing is if you the second last thing actually if you want to delete your transitions between

eclipse or you need to do is click on the transition and hit delete on your keyboard right.

That's one way of doing it just like that.

And another cool trick as well.

Before I get if I just move the transition over between these two clips.

Another thing you can do if you click on the transition control copy on your keyboard and then go to

the next to eclipse control paste.

I can actually just paste my transition across just like that.

So click control v control v control V.

Just like that.

And that's all there is to it.

So they're the transitions that are my favorite.

There's the dip to white dip to Black Cross dissolve and just the straight cut between my clips so there's

no right or wrong when it comes to what transitions to use.

It's just that some people overuse transitions so I don't recommend putting you know crazy transitions

between you two clips.

I don't want is that a good idea if you if you distract people by using fancy transitions between your

clips in your blogs just keep it simple don't over complicated don't try and be all showy and fancy

because people will just get distracted and they won't really focus on the story that you're trying

to tell in your video.
