All language subtitles for 1. Basic Editing Tools I Use (Source & Timeline Panels)

Hi everybody welcome back.

Again from brand new to dot tv.

We're going to get stuck into basic editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 20:19.

I'll show you exactly what I've been doing and what I've been using for the last couple of years and

that over time you would just keep using the basic editing tools and you would just get better and better

at it.

So don't beat yourself up if you a little bit slower at first because everybody was when they first

started I've done about 700 of these videos so I've got all the shortcut keys down in my memory.

But when you first starting out is this going to take a little bit of time and that's OK.

So in the previous video we imported our footage and if we double click on this we've got our imported

footage here.

So the first thing is we want to start creating a really awesome video.

How do we do that.

We have footage here GoPro footage drone background music.

If we hit the up key see that there takes us back to these three little bins right here.

So first thing is first is we need to create what they call us they call it a sequence file.

So if we double click on go pro and double click on one of these little videos here it's going to show

up in the source monitor box.

So it's going to give us a little preview of that particular video or we can even scrub it down here.

Doesn't really matter.

You say OK but if you double click on it it brings up the source monitor box.

So the first thing we need to do is create a sequence for all you need to do.

Just keep it real basic for now is all you need to do is right click and go new sequence from clip click

on that.

What's the magic.

Right.

Another file is created called a sequence file and you can see here little icon there which looks like

a set of blocks.

That's a sequence file.

And as you can see the clip that we right clicked on has been automatically dropped into this sequence

file the sequence file has been labeled that as you can see and it pops pops up here in your little

tab part of the window here.

As you can see that there now you can relabel this and this is what I usually do.

If you click on that we're going to call it blog.

You know 0 1.

And so as you can see it changes the name up here as well.

So there's a number of ways you can create a new sequencer file.

I'm not going to go through them all now.

You can go down here to New Item Gubba sequence.

This little box pops up.

And when you first starting out it's confusing as hell.

You're like what is this.

I mean this is so much what it is.

I have no idea.

So you're just starting out.

I'm saying don't worry about it for now.

We're going to click off that and for now when you create your own sequences at least for the time being

you're just going to go right click sequence from clip and we'll do that right now.

So now we've just created another sequence which is going to be another video vlog that we're going

to create later on.

So in you call log to rights to sequence files here and they'll show up here as individual tabs.

So this is one blog I'm working on.

We're going to do that together.

And then after you finish this blog and you export it and you uploaded to YouTube then you can come

back and work on your second vote by clicking on the second tab up here.

Now if you accidentally X that off or close these two off oh of lost my project I did this when I first

started I freaked out.

I spent hours on oh my what have I done.

Then you haven't deleted anything.

It's still here.

You just double click on it and it reopens the sequence up again as a little tab up here.

As you can see right.

And then if you double click on this one it reopens it up here as well.

And then you can click and then you can like if you click and hold you shift them around L'Etat right

you'll get the hang of this right.

Just like that.

So what will do for now is delete that right.

We're going to have an empty sequence file.

The first thing we're going to really focus on though is the source monitor box up here.

All right.

Top left hand corner.

We're going to focus on this box for now.

So you've got great GoPro footage right here.

Right.

This is one clip to clips right here.

These two clips here and you look at this and you go OK great.

So I've got this clip here.

And I want to use only a small piece of this clip.

Now first thing I want to say is any cutting or deleting that you do inside premi a pro is not going

to affect the original file or just the latest stroke like my cable gone on I know you haven't lost

it as a source file or just double click on this.

I can re-import it just like that.

Right.

And then I can just drag it back over here just like that.

It's a double click on this.

OK great.

So what do I want to use.

So I'm using my Scrubb to a little blue thing here and I'll just come along and I might listen to it

more from the deliberations.

Right.

Really awesome country too.

Like I said what I do.

I'm using my spacebar to control play and stop.

Much much faster than clicking plys stop here.

So I'll drag it back.

And what I'll do is if I want to take from this point then I will click on Mark in.

You can see that there in the brackets it will have I as you can see that if I click on that and then

drag it out play a little bit maybe just a little bit more height and then you click on this option

is Mark out or on the keyboard.

I hit on the keyboard.

Mark out if I I on the keyboard mark.

So that's the pace I'm going to use.

What will I do.

I want to put that into my timeline because that's going to be what I'm going to be using in my final

video.

So what I'll do is I'll hit either insert or overwrite.

Now explain the differences between those two options in just a second.

So first of all I can hear that comma or the Head Full stop.

So for now I'm going to click on that as you can see that small piece of this click has been dropped

into my time on him.

Right.

Both the video component and the video on the audio component just here.

If I control Zed or command Zed if you're a Mac user to undo it it will undo the previous action.

Right.

If I go back up here and get none and I don't want that actually I want to take it from here to hit

that option.

Mark in Scrubbs cups grab mark out and then click on insert.

That's exactly what I want.

Right as deleted.

So that's pretty much how you add you know video clips to your timeline you know use I.

You use comma full stop and then you use either in and over out.

That's it.

So the other thing is to keep in mind as well is when you're playing back content on your source monitor

box here.

If it's running really slow this is something that I do because it's my computer is like getting a little

old now it's a couple of years I hold what I do is I hit this drop down here.

So like playback resolution and I set it to like see if you like full.

It's going to playback the video at its full resolution.

It's going to really you know slow the laptop down or the computer or the Mac or what have you using.

So I get that drop down and just like one quarter that is going to play back one quarter of its full

resolution.

So just something to keep in mind and then otherwise you know you pretty much it's going to be using

in and out you know.

And then on your space by you got play stop you know and then you can just or it or what you can do

is you can just drag the video only right.

Or the audio only.

And I do this a lot if I look at this clip and go.

OK.

For example real quick back here now must be the second clip if we scroll.

Have a look at this.

I actually take a video clip of the fountain there we go.

I'm like I've actually done what the background noise of the fountain.

I just want the videos component I just click drag onto my timeline and then it pops up on my timeline.

So if you ever get this box I'm so happy this box has popped up.

If you ever get this box where Adobe Premiere Pro is asking for you to change your sequence settings

because that clip that you are about to put into your timeline doesn't match the sequence settings.

If you don't know what you're doing which is May where I first started I would click on change sequence

settings right.

We'll talk about the reasons for that later but that's all you need to think about.

And so as you can see we've gotten into a timeline.

Now if you have a look at what's happened here we've got no no audio track.

If I delete that I can drag just the audio component over.

And as you can see I can only drag the audio component into the audio tracks and I can drag the audio

component anywhere I one audio track too.

I like it doesn't matter I can drag anywhere I want and let it go.

I still like that.

So let's drop this back into the timeline and then I'm going to explain to you.

I'm going to explain to you the difference between these two icons here because this is pretty important.

So I'll move my play head back over here.

What I'm going to do is I'm going to go.

It's like something else.

I'm going to go to my drone footage and my Should I get some drone footage.

I think I should get some drone footage.

Let's have a look.

Snake Island here we go.

Have a look.

Snake Island.

Now if got a list here.

We talked about this in the previous video right.

I can see all the information related to this video file right just like that cake right.

I'm going to use this one for.

Write load up here in the in the source monitor box so I can see exactly what I'm working with and I'm

going to supply this for teachers you can download this and you can play with my free joy you can use

your own footage and I can't quite see where the camera is starting to tilt down.

I'm going to go up that option which is I is tilting down.

To be a more top down shot and then out and then I'm going to drag.

I'm not going to do that.

I'm going to show you what happens when I hit insert or comma on the keyboard.

So that's hit come on the keyboard.

Watch what happens over here and the time on window.

See that.

So what's happened is that Adobe Premiere Pro has Dre as actually pushed that along on the timeline.

So where over my play head is here in the sequence it's going to drop that directly in front of the

play head and then it's going to push everything else along.

That's after it if he controls it to undo or command to undo.

And if I had this option instead overwrite.

Watch what happens.

See where my play hit is.

Watch this magic.

Now what's happened is that Adobe Premiere Pro has overridden as you can see I've ridden one clip with

another clip.

It controls it.

There we go.

Take it back to how it was.

So let's move into the basic editing tools over here in the timeline in the timeline window.

So when you scrub your footage left and right over here you can see how your video is going to look

right.

This is pretty much your output right up here in the program window up here.

This is the output.

This is the import when you scroll like that.

That's pretty much what the project is going to look like.

So just quickly we've got some basics here to cover off a few things to keep in mind.

So we've got video tracks V1 V2 the three audio tracks.

I want to i3.

You can put the video clip on any one of these tracks as you can see just light that can move it around

left right beside that and you can do the same thing with the audio track.

You can drag it down.

You can drag it down whatever you want.

You can even drag it up and Adobe Premiere Pro will automatically create new tracks just like that.

Write do the same thing with the audio track as well you could drag it down and create brand new audio

tracks just like that.

So we have all these the tracks and tracks.

OK.

And so it is pretty straightforward once you get your head around the basics.

So first and foremost we're going to add in a clip we're going to go back to how amazing GoPro footage

of going to change it back to icon view.

Go to go pride.

Because I like icon view personally and what I'm going to do is I am going to take this pace here and

I'm just going to drag in the video only so click on that.

Drag it down and it's going to drag it over there like that onto the tube.

Now what happens now.

Pretty much.

Think of it like stacks of paper or stacks of bricks or you know layers of a cake or whatever you want

to call it but pretty much like Photoshop for example we have different layers.

The play ahead is going to play as you can see you got the one here as it plays then it's kind of cut

to the two.

Now what you're seeing here in the program window is all the two.

OK.

Just like that.

Now if you want to make one of the tracks invisible then you can hit the icon right here.

A cross through the eye.

So now you're only seeing the bottom track here.

If you hit that as you can see you're seeing the top track now just like that.

If you want to lock a particular track I do this all the time.

Then you hit the padlock key or padlock optional icon.

And that will lock the complete tracks.

Now I can't even I can't do anything with that track as you can see it's completely locked down.

Right.

I can't move it.

I can't do anything which is amazing I've done that.

I do this all the time where I have a like of a one track and it's like my adjustment layer.

And I put everything inside my job.

We'll talk about what that means later and they'll lock it down and I can't do anything with it.

And the night for example get my background track here I'll show you.

Dragonair background music background music here.

And then I'll lock it so that whenever I'm making changes to my video it's not going to affect my background

music at all and I'm not going to accidentally cut into it or delayed it or move it around.

It's just fixed right.

It's really really cool.

It's really handy.

It's something that you'll use a lot more with time.

If you click it again it unlocks just like that.

OK so a few other things that you will use is that you actually can when you look at this and you go

all the tracks are so tiny like him I can see what's going on here.

I'll show you something really cool I love this like only about 12 months ago.

It's really awesome.

If you hold down the Alt key on your keyboard and use the scrawl on your mouse if you just have your

mouse cursor here somewhere right.

Hold the OK down.

Hold the OK down and then use the scroll wheel on the mouse.

You can actually open up these particular tracks and see what's going on.

So I get that that's huge.

And if I scroll down it scrolls down into nothing.

So that's a pretty cool thing to do the same thing with the audio track as well.

So just around here somewhere.

Just hold the OK down scroll and you are great and you get a better idea of what's going on inside the

audio track with the waveform and the video track and you can see the thumb now of the video track.

So if we just collapse it a little bit like that that's a pretty cool thing right.

Keep that in mind.

The next thing is really really awesome.

And that is I'll show you.

This is called the snap option.

This is really really important because when you are getting tracks Let's expand this a little bit old

scroll wheel.

So what you are doing is you'll move your video clips around a new timeline like that.

And so what happens is what you want to happen is when you're not going to zoom in a little bit and

zooming in is controlled by well when you hit when you hold it all to the keyboard and use the scroll

wheel on your mouse that it zooms in and out.

And this is amazing.

I do this all the time holding down alt scroll wheel in and out.

It's so fast.

The other option you can do is you can hit the you can hit this little slider down here.

The zoom in and out and all you're doing is you zooming in and out you changing the scale of the timeline

you're not actually changing the clips themselves.

Even though when you do this the clips like expand out and like compressing it like man what's happening

there is like getting really tiny like I can't even see it.

And all that's changed is appears that timeline has changed the scale is changing.

So but rather than clicking on this stupid little thing I hate this little I never use it.

Right.

It's just so tedious.

I just hold the key on the keyboard with my cursor in here.

My curse is in here right that I hit the scroll wheel at that.

Amazing things happen when I take my Ok off and I just use the scroll wheel.

I'm just scrolling left and right inside my time line.

By the way these little tips are going to save you so much time when you start editing your own videos.

Right.

So I want to show a couple more things and then we'll close off this video.

Move into the next one.

So I talked about Snap real quick.

So when it's blue it means it's enabled when you click on it it's disabled.

Now this is what happens when you disable it.

This is friggin annoying.

I was like look at what's going on here.

So if you zoom in right I want to have this clip in that clip directly paired up like that like I want.

No black when I play this.

If I kind of fluke that but I'll have a little gap there.

I just did it right.

I'm kind of looking at it because I've done this so many times.

But let's play back to that black.

There's a little bit black there.

I got that.

So what you do is just spend so much time trying to like line it up without overlapping.

You know you don't overlap because it's cutting into the other videoclip.

So what you do is you make sure this is enabled.

This is like a little magnet.

You can hit s on the keyboard.

And then this is what happens.

It just snaps like whenever this clicks getting close.

It just pushes boom.

I love this so much.

Right.

It just makes things so much easier.

All right so let's zoom out.

So anyway that's pretty much the basic editing tools that we can be talking about in this video.

Very very basic stuff.

As we move through the course I'm going to introduce more little tips and shortcuts and cool stuff along

the way because it just gets super boring if I just sit here and go.

Well that's the.

Or raise a tool and cut cut cut cut you know and this is the pen tool and then I can click here and

do this and then click here and then up this and then it just gets too much too soon.

Right.
