And so, when I say that,

it's almost like a forcing
mechanism for me every day

where I think it makes me be,

I think what I think about

instantly is how fast
our time has accumulated.

Like, you know, you're talking
about a conversation

that happened in a hallway
at the MTV Movie Awards.

And in passing, "Oh, shit,

Man, we got to figure out
something to do."

-"I'm a fan, I'm a fan.

I would love it.

And in that moment, okay,

well, the next stage
was to actually figure it out.

We figured it out.
We did something.

After doing something,
we found that we had something.

This is different,
you know, man?

I like, I had a good time
fucking working with you, man.

I remember the day
of finding out

that we figured it out again.
We had decided to do the --

-MTV Movie Awards.
-MTV Movie Awards.

And we had gotten the call.
You had gotten the call already.

And you were in the weeds
with "Jumanji."

And you said, "Kev,
we got to talk.

There's a big thing."
And opportunity to go

and align myself with you
in the world of "Jumanji" came.

And I remember we had
a moment of like, "Yo,

this can be kind of like --"
-"Are we doing this?"

-"This can be like --"
-Huge.

-"Is this, like --
Is this going to --

this can be like
our fucking opportunity

to do some different shit,
to break the mold on something."

And I got excited.
I got excited,

but not because
of the "Jumanji" of it all.

Because of you of it all.

-Because of the time
that we had on that set.

And then you talk
about 10 years.

Fuck, 10 years have moved
and you have surpassed

so many amazing things
and amazing moments.

And then while doing it, I go,
"Have me and DJ taken the time

to actual enjoy
this shit together,

or are we going too fast?"

-I think both you and I
just by nature, we're hustlers,

we're go-getters,
we see an opportunity,

we get in there,
we take advantage of it.

Even if the opportunity's
not there,

we're going to
scratch and claw

and we're going to create
opportunities for ourselves.

It started for you
on the road back at clubs.

It started for me wrestling
in little high school gyms.

So we still have that mentality,
so it feels like these days,

where we're lucky enough
to have success,

you're still
traveling the globe.

I mean, that's
another thing, too.

Let me acknowledge you
for going global, man.

Because you and I talked
about that years ago.

We talked about
how it's one thing

to service us here
domestically,

because this is
our bread and butter.

But it's another thing
when you can go out

and you can move the world.
-Well, you helped me with that,

Like, I think
"Central Intelligence,"

any international exposure
that we were able

to gain off of that movie
helped me with the world

of international attention.

now of wanting to help,

of wanting to amplify

the opportunities
of those around you.

I mean, you are now
driving towards

making sure that your journey

more situations,
from the world of success."

Is that a thought
of yours now?

behalf of something

that you have no, like, energy
in or towards. Right?

what you're doing.

A thing that I want to know,

though, is, like,
there's something that happens

where the business mind
gets turned on, right?

Where the goal to do more,

want more, obtain more,
it's something that happens.

What I can honestly say you are
doing was attaching yourself

to the place
of brand partnership.

That was dope. You made
the world of likability,

accessibility become a normal
thing for an actor, right?

I can honestly say
watching you gave me the energy

to want to do more,
embed myself more.

Was that something
that just fell into place?

-It was having the ambition
to do more.

-Okay.
-So, if the ambition is there

to do more, okay,
well what do I need in place?

What kind of organization
do I need to level up?

Who do I need to bring in?

And who do I need to help me
run in that direction

and get to that
particular thing?

But you bring up
such a great point.

Because it's one thing about --

and I know this is something
you've talked to a lot of people

about who are hungry
entrepreneurs

in and out of our business
of Hollywood -- so have I.

But it's one thing
when you want to brand a line

and you want to do
brand endorsements.

You could do those all day.

And God bless you
and you should.

But it's another thing, I think,

when you can just pause
for a second,

because I think
it's prudent and smart

to just pause for a second
and just say, "Wait a second.

Do I have the juice,
do I have the credentials

and the street cred
to get more?"

-So, brand endorsement, sure.

But do I have enough
juice and power

where I can take
this brand endorsement,

we can bring in smart people
in this business that fit right,

and then how can
I create ownership?

How an I get a piece
of this action?

-Absolutely.

-And how can I have real skin
in the game

where for life,
and perpetuity,

our kids' kids' kids
are getting paid?

-That's the other side
of thinking.

-Right.
-That's the side of thinking

that I not only admire

but where I learn.
Right?

And we had the conversations
of ownership

of asking for more,
of not just being the face.

Not being the ambassador.
-That's right.

-Those are conversations
of, oh, ambassador.

Well, that's momentarily.
You want the fucking longevity.

-And not only that, but how do
we deserve the longevity?

Well, we deserve it by scaling

whatever business
we attach ourselves to.

How do you have

But building the brand

can identify with and elevate,
well, that's another tier.

Those conversations
are deserving.

But now, partnership. That's
the conversation of partnership.

and have done well
and continue to do well.

Dwayne, one thing I look at
as a major accomplishment,

your goddamn daughter wanted
to follow in the footsteps

of what you were doing.

-Your daughter said on her own,
"I want to go here."

and embed myself

into the world of wrestling."

And I think that there's
a lot of things

that you can be proud of.

I know there's a lot
that you are.

But I want to know
what that was.

What was that moment for you?

-Man, you and I
have talked about this.

That was a special moment
when my daughter,

Simone, my oldest daughter,

said, "I want
to get in the business."

And much like I said
that years before her.

I said, "What business?"

She goes, "The wrestling
business."

I said, "I love it."

Now, what that also does --

like, immediately
I just loved it.

What a great sense of pride
just as her father.

But then of course, as a parent,

you start to think
about all the pitfalls.

-The hardship.
-The trappings

and all the hardships
and all the shit

that I know
she's going to go through,

because I've lived
that business.

So one thing that
I always like to say,

there's the pomp and
circumstance of pro wrestling.

It's the pageantry,
the WrestleMania,

it's the bright lights.
Right?

It's the big contracts.
It's the global company.

But then there's that underbelly
in that world of pro wrestling.

And it's just like being
on the circuit. Right?

When you're trying to come up
as a comedian,

you're playing all these small
towns and all these small clubs.

And all that shit
that you got to deal with

and backstage politics
and all of that.

So I started thinking
about that for her.

But at the same time,
as her father,

I have enough confidence to know
that I have -- as her father,

I have instilled in her from
what I knew

values, philosophy,

a work ethic, things like that.

So, man, I was so proud.

And not only that,
but I am so proud.

But then also, last thing,
if you think about it,

for someone who's --

and she made that decision
when she was 16.

Like, she was ready to go.

And I was like, "Well,
let's finish school here."

Yeah, me and her mom
talked about that.

But you think about that.
For someone to say, "Here's

what I believe my life path is
and my journey,

it's in this world
of pro wrestling,

that my great-grandfather
was in,

my grandfather was in,
my dad was in,

and I'm going to take this"?

And she's a first
fourth generation.

But think about not only
is that business difficult,

incredibly difficult business
because you're on the road 24/7,

365 years out of the year.

But also, the pressure
of being who you are?

-Yeah.
-You know?

-Yeah. But she's stepping up.
-She's stepping up.

-She's stepping up
to that plate.

-Working hard, man.
-Right?

-Yep.

-I think when you do understand
the hardship

that comes with that world,
naturally, as a father, okay,

yes, I do want to have
some hint of protection.

I do want something
that prevents my daughter

from making certain mistakes.

That comes with conversation.

But then, at the same time,

I want to also
build that character.

What do you --
-And let her go through that

shit that she has to, right.
-Absolutely.

What do you feel about
that business today

versus what it was
in your day?

-That's a brilliant question.

Because 20 years ago,
we were there,

when we were on top
and it was Attitude era

and it was me
and Stone Cold and Undertaker

and all these other guys
who were putting it down

every night, it was tough.

The role of a female wrestler
at that time,

in that business,
at that time was hard, man.

It was hard. You can imagine.
-Mm-hmm.

-But the world --
that world today...

is much more inclusive,
much more respectful,

much more really creating
and delivering efforts

to make sure
that all the females --

-They're aware.
-They're aware.

-They're aware.
-They're aware of it.

-And I think sometimes it takes
the mirror being held up

for you to go, "Oh, shit, I had
no idea that we were that --

when you talk about the women

and the level of inclusion,
opportunity, more importantly

how they're highlighted, and --

and her involvement.

when you speak of your heritage,

when you speak of your family,
you're so big on the idea

of understanding your shit.

but your heritage,
where you come from,

the foundation in which
you want to see grow

and what you resonate towards.

Right now in the biggest
places of success,

like, do you have any goals
or things that you want to do,

like, of going back to those
places of where you're from?

Like, what are the things
that you want to be known for

and change outside
of the success of you?

What are the things
that you want to do?

-Creating opportunities.

for the heritages

that I've come from.

-So, my culture, I have two --
half Black, half Samoan --

and raised primarily in the
islands with my mom and dad.

And then also raised
throughout the South in Georgia,

Florida,
Texas, Tennessee.

And so, for me,
it is a continuous observation

to make sure
that around every corner,

going back to the islands,

or also going back
to where I used to live,

even here on the mainland
in the states,

and providing
opportunities locally.

So I used to live
in Georgia, twice,

went to school in Georgia
when I was a little kid.

We used to live
in this little trailer park.

And so now, which is why it's
important that I keep going back

and I try to bring as much
production as I can to Georgia.

-That's huge that
you're bringing that there.

Like, I remember when you --
with Hawaii.

Hawaii, Hawaii.

And then when we had to do other
things, we went to Atlanta.

So as a producer,

make the decisions,

your decisions are now based on
creating the better of good

for those that you know are
looking and need opportunities.

you could say economic growth.

the film business

in Atlanta,
helping it grow.

The bigger the productions,
the bigger the business.

The bigger the opportunity,
the more jobs.

And doing that
same thing in Hawaii,

it's like, fuck.

I wasn't aware, because I didn't
ask that question then,

but knowing it now, it's clear.

Like, that's dope as hell, man.

"Jumanjis," we went to Hawaii.

And when we make "Jumanji 3,"

we'll go to Hawaii,

I think that "Black Adam"
got caught

in a vortex of new leadership

and at that time, as we were
creating "Black Adam,"

developing it,
shooting "Black Adam,"

we got knocked down
a little bit

because of COVID
and the shutdowns,

got back up,

there were so many changes
in leadership

and as you know,
any time you have a company,

but especially that size
and magnitude

that's a publicly
traded company,

and you have all those
changes in leadership,

you have people coming in
who creatively,

fiscally are going
to make decisions

that you may not agree with
philosophically.

So, I think "Black Adam"
was one of those movies

that got caught in that web
of new leadership.

And, you know,
that will always be

one of the biggest mysteries,
I think,

not only for me
and us on our end,

but also throughout
our business.

Because that's a Kevin question,

but that was a question
out of Wall Street,

that was a question
out of Hollywood.

That was a question,
like, wait a second.

You had the biggest opening
of your career.

Sure, no China,

That could have been maybe 100,
maybe 200 more million dollars.

You're establishing
a new superhero,

you want to grow out
the franchise.

You bring back Superman
and Henry Cavill.

The world went crazy.

this on opening weekend

is we created a diverse
superhero portfolio

where we had just men and women
and color in "Black Adam,"

That's the biggest piece for me
is like the respect.

You respect the business,
you respect the people.

is I was chasing it

critics, cynics --
dictate to me my next move.

I pay attention.

And now I just --
I put it in the head.

And when the time is right,
I know, "Okay.

And when the right move and that
opportunity presents itself,

that's what I'm going to do.

So I have a few things like
that coming down the line.

But again, what I learned
over the years

is not to chase it
and not to let them dictate.
