to other kinds of businesses.

we were anxious for you to arrive

was because that herd that was due

They tried to come straight through

We still have some dependence
upon cattle here.

What happens to our economy

from certain elements

the livery stable and the barber shop

and every other place
they've tried to get into.

While we were having dinner
in that fancy dining room,

they were eating beef and beans
down at the cattle pens.

Now, that isn't everything,
but that's just a good start.

They didn't cause any trouble
till tonight.

Till tonight when it started to rain.

Is that about how it was, Mr. Dennis?

Well, I'll admit that, uh, it may seem
to be that way to the boys, but, uh--

Oh, my men don't fit in to the plans
you have laid out for your little town?

Yeah. Yeah, well, I can understand
how you might feel.

Drovers do spend
most of their time on the trail,

and it keeps them
from all the schooling

and learning of fancy manners
that they should have.

And I admit, it keeps them strangers
to a bar of soap

and a change of clothes
as often as they might like.

And they are a pretty noisy lot
when they come into town,

I can't deny that.

Also, the fact that they push
a herd of cattle

through country that would
starve a goat to get them to your town

don't count for too much, I guess.

Even when you consider that fact

is gonna make ten times a better living
for you than they'll ever know.

I can see how you would be offended
by all the drinking and the gambling.

But what I wanna know is,

just exactly
what are you offering them instead?

Mr. Farnsworth, Mr. Dennis,
I know it may come as a shock,

but these steer pushers
can be pretty reasonable men.

And you seem to be thinking people,
from what you've told me

about the good things
you want for your town.

Well, I want good treatment
for my men.
