All language subtitles for 3. Adding the Background into the Edge Transparency

In this clip we're going to take a look at adding the background

to the edge transparency of our RGB image.

So, let's take a look at our script.

So, here we're going to be working with this piece of footage,

the little dancing girl and we're going to continue

where we left off in our last clip.

So,

we're going to take the loss luminance/noise image and

we're going to add the background to it,

so we're going to work with this checkerboard here and

we're going to add it to this image.

From there we're going to add it back over top of our

de-spilled image and pre-multiply.

Now,

I do want to focus on this little area down here because we have a

lot of transparency and here we can see that we have the

checkerboard showing through her transparent edges which is

fantastic for selling these little details,

so let's take a look at the difference between that

and no background being added.

So, here is our image where the wispies are being integrated,

so the background's been added to the de-spill just in this

area down here and here where it is not.

Now,

let's just zoom in here and see the difference between the two and here is

it with it added and look what it does to our edges,

it becomes nicely integrated,

we lose that light color that is happening down in here

and this is with it not integrated, so again,

a bit of a later halo around our wispies where the

background has not been added,

so this is where the background's been added and not added,

so added definitely makes a huge difference.

It allows us to just massage it into that background plate a

little bit better for final integration.

So, now let's take a look at where we place that in our script.

So, again continuing on our last clip,

everything in blue is a continuation and the teal is the new portion,

so we're going to do a de-spill on our image,

pull that difference between the de-spill and the original plate,

de-saturate it and then here's the new part,

so we're going to take our temp background and multiply it against this image.

From there, continue to plus it over top for our final integration.

Now, let's take a look at what that looks like in our final.

So, there's our final image.

We'll just toggle this on and off.

We can see how much better it integrates these edges,

so yes, we would lose some detail but that's okay,

that's what we want to integrate this seamlessly into our background.

So, now let's take a look at what this does for our blue screen image,

so there's our blue screen image.

We're going to focus here, up here at the top,

that's where our wispies are and let's just take a look at our final,

so there is our final and again,

toggle on and off that extra piece and there's a little bit,

not quite as much as our green screen example but again,

little details really add up and help us to final integrate

this image into the final background.

So, in this particular clip,

we took a look at adding the background to our lost

luminance image and that really helped us to massage our

edges into the final background plate.
