In the Vata diseases,

black shades can be seen,

in Pitta diseases yellow shades,

in Kapha diseases white shades.

Also from the eyes,

diseases can be determined.

There is a poem about that. You can

read all about yourself in the iris.

The present health condition

and natural constitution

are reflected in the eyes.

Thus ancient scholars made

several diagnostic measures.

To memorise them easily,

they recorded them in poetic forms.

As per Ayurvedic principles

everything in the universe is medicinal.

Plants,

I mean medicinal plants, are explained

by Ayurvedic principles

and Ayurvedic philosophy.

For Ayurveda,

everything in and around us

is one single existence.

The microcosm - the body

and in Ayurveda it is the medical

sessions. For example, Tarpana gives

satisfaction to the eyes and

strengthens them.

Generally, for every disease in the eyes

Tarpana is advised.

E.g. for Diabetic Retinitis.

This patient has had

diabetes for more than 10 years.

He has lost 80% of vision and he was

not able to work in the bank.

Diabetic Retinitis affects

the retina, the back screen of the eye

where images are formed so we can see.

A yellow fluid leaked out

on that retina.

In modern medicine they arrest it

through laser treatment.

Laser Photo Coagulation.

What does the laser treatment do?

It simply closes the leak.

It does not try

to prevent further leakage

which may take place in the future.

If we look at this case

from an Ayurvedic angle ...

There are excellent medications

to cure this disease

by which this leakage takes place

in the blood.

One of the reasons is diabetes,

another is incorporated in Pitta Dosha.

When there is imbalance in Pitta Dosha,

the fluidity of the blood increases.

Along with treating the diabetes

from the root cause

this Pitta Dosha is also controlled

by proper anti-Pitta drugs.

This brings back the harmony

of the Pitta Dosha.

These therapies have given

tremendous results in the patient.

What is this manuscript called?

This manuscript is about

medicine written by Agasthya.

It has many detailed

medicinal formulas.

Also descriptions of adjuvants.

Science must be attained

in the proper way, not by stealing.

There are lessons in form of poetry.

If you just pick up a manuscript and

start to read, you may not understand

because it is not in order.

The pages are not numbered

and are mixed up.

It is confusing.

In those days the Gurus taught us

that if science is only followed

for money, it is wasted.

Wealth earned from medical science

is always contaminated

as it comes from the suffering of others.

Medicine must

be practiced with compassion

and humility. Without greed and ego.

Therefore Gurus study their students

before accepting them as disciples.

I have added many volumes of notes

to these. Later, I'll give them

to you and to my son.

The traditional science

of health

comes through two distinct but

mutually complimenting streams.

One is today's

local health traditions

which make use of natural resources.

Another is very well advanced

and documented, codified,

with a lot of principles

and foundational aspects, a science

like Ayurveda. Even Charaka Samhita

is supposed to have

been written some 4,000 years back.

Sage Charaka says that

practical things like identification,

proper usage, and propagation, etc.

should be learnt from the people

who live in the forest.

We got this method from tribal people.

It's a very ancient method

of diagnosis.

The termites

make small hills of mud

under the trees.

We add some medicine to this mud,

namely turmeric and neem,

and it's made like a paste. This paste

is applied on the body of the patient

who is made to sit one hour in the sun,

till the mud is completely dried.

Then he is given a mineral bath,

i.e. the bath water is passed through

mineral stones. After that we can

see some colour changes on the skin

if there are problems underneath,

especially

fractures or dislocations, problems

related to the muscular skeletal system.

In some cases we get these

bluish spots, in the case

of kidney stones or gallstones.

In ulcers we get

colour changes on part of the stomach.

Since it is a method for diagnosis,

we call it Mud Scan.

Here are three spots

which indicate some

problem behind the scapula.

Maybe some tendon injury

or twitching of the ligament.

These three spots.

As the nerves act in a human,

the nerves act similarly in a goat.

Look what happens to this goat

when we touch this particular

vital point.

The same effect

is experienced in humans also.

Likewise

We examine all the Marmas.

These two Marmas for example

allow us to detect

the presence of brain tumour.

This is also the cause

for the tremor in the hands and legs.

By stimulating this Marma point here,

patients can feel it

somewhere else.

Look here:

the nerves began to pulsate.

Marmas should be learnt

directly from the Guru,

and not from books.

By pressing this Marma point,

the nerves in this muscle will

start functioning. As the nerves

in the muscle start functioning,

the nerves in the whole hand will do so.

We have been doing this form of medicine

traditionally for about 16 generations.

We were the Royal Physicians.

There are some secrets too.

We can press the Marma points

of unconscious people

and they regain consciousness.

Similarly, conscious persons

can be made unconscious.

If we apply further force

on secret points

he will die.

Because of such powerful knowledge,

during the British rule many

Marma physicians

were arrested. They chopped off their

hands. So their science became extinct.

Then the King of Kerala

helped our family.

He supported us and developed

the science secretly.

This is white zinc with traces of copper.

This has traces of iron

and is called Anna Bhedi.

This is a salty one.

These three

are mixed

with the juice of this plant

and made into a paste

and then made into a cake form.

This is for heart diseases.

and I've been practising for 55 years,

I don't mind working with allopathic

doctors if they have no ego problems.

The best aspects of allopathy

and the best aspects of Ayurveda

plastic surgery described by Susruta.

about Ayurveda.

translations from Sanskrit.

Today there is a big interest

in Ayurveda all over the world.

them first before looking for new things.

in the Himalayas in the ancient times.

There sages met to discuss

the current problem of that era:

People were leaving their jungle life

and starting to live

in something known as "village".

They were concerned of

consequences of such cohabitation.

The problems it could cause

to the individual and the planet.

And today we all live

in mega-cities!
