The location is kinda
like the place where I grew up

In the philippines.
It feels so familiar.

But being naked and
trying to survive in the wild

For 21 days, that's
going to be really hard.

I was coming to colombia,

And I studied a whole
lot of plants and animals

That you would find in
the colombian amazon.

And instead I'm up here in this
high-altitude hills environment.

Millions of years ago,

This grassy savannah of central
colombia was deep under water,

Where volcanic lava
flows, and ages of erosion

Created of labyrinth of
rock formations and tunnels.

Now, with the ocean long gon
and high triple digit temperatures,

These caves provide a welcome
respite from the intense heat.

But they're home to
disease carrying bats,

Bees, and large cats,
such as puma and jaguar.

Jaguars can
run 50 miles per hour,

And can eat you alive.

Hope I don't encounter
them at all.

I'm excited.

Meeting my partner is
just right around the corner.

Hope she's chill.

I feel good about being nake

It's not a part of this

As a kid, my dream

In the philippines, my
parents are pretty strict

The kind of culture
I grew up with,

They would think,
"you're a woman,

You should just be staying
at home, get a husband,

Cook for them," and that's it.

But that's not really me.

I would go out and about,
explore in the wilderness,

Catching snakes without
any... like, fear.

I moved to the u.S.
At the age of 19.

It was hard.

But nobody tells me what to
do, and no regrets.

How are your feet holding up?

They're tough. Yeah.

I do a lot of hiking, so...

do you ever do any, like,
rock-climbing or anything like that?

I do. I do rock-climbing

On top of the
mountaineering I do.

I got into mountaineering
seven years ago.

Hiking 5000 to,
like, 14,000-ish.

Which is mount rainier, biggest
mountain in washington state.

My goal is to do
everest someday.

This looks like a pretty
good walking stick.

Awesome.

Rizza has shown extreme
mental toughness as a mountaineer.

However, she doesn't
have mu hunting experience.

She begins with a psr,

survival rating of 5.8.

I'm an anthropologi by trade.

So I actually work with
hunter-gatherer tribes and stuff, so...

I would describe myself
as part woodsman and part nerd.

Growing up in alabama,
I was fascinated

By all these indigenous cultures
that ran naked through the forests

With bows and arrows,
and survived off the land.

And I was like, "hey, I
can actually study this.

I can go work with these
tribes and learn how they live."

I've spent almost a year
altogether living with the ache tribe.

They're the ones who really
taught me how to live in nature.

I study hunting, how
to follow animal tracks

How to find burrows, how to
dig things out of the ground.

And so this gonna be my
chan to prove that I can take

What I've learned from them and
apply it in an actual survival environment

When they're not
here to help me.

There's, uh, some
edible berries right here.

I think that these are
called tanino. Or nigua.

I bet, like, everything
you see here is like,

"yeah, I know that. Yeah,
I know what that is for."

Andrew has studied
extensively with indigenous tribes.

But he has yet to
put his skill to the test

In a real survival situation

one of my biggest
concerns coming out here was,

"who am I gonna be paired
with"? Like... - yeah.

Mountaineering, climbing some of

already got mental fortitude

And that ability to kinda

20 or 30 feet wide.

Having a dry roof over our heads

Right from the start

There is, you know, a
rock to reflect the heat.

So our next mission
is to get water.

I mean, there's
a tiny bout of flow here.

Just follow the stream.

We actually
have a natural spring,

So the water in this area
is filtering through the roc

And it's coming
out of the cliff face.

Seems to follow this channel.

Yep, there's a pool down here.

Water like that
should be safe to drink.

Perfect.

start a fire next.

it's already starting to get darker

I did not get much sleep
last night, to be honest.

I kind of that we just

we have to also think

If it's gonna rain

So our idea is a regular lean-to

Running across this rock, with
the ends up on the rock face

And the other ends
down in the dirt.

And then we wanna
close off this upper edge

Just to help keep the wind out.

Into tiny pieces for him.

I think that whatever we
feed him, we've got to chew it up for him.

Feeding a baby bird off of my
fingers and, like, from my own mouth,

Was definitely a
unique experience.

It's not something
I've ever done before,

And it felt kinda
sweet, you know?

It's so cute, man.

I'm gonna feed him to the bird.

I think that
the ache would think

That us keeping
this baby bird is silly.

If they kill a mom and
there's a baby there,

They'll adopt that baby and

But when times get hard,
and they get hungry...

They may eat a pet.

Pound for pound, this
bird's eating better than we are.

This partnership
is really going well

On this adventure.

So this bird is probably
bringing us luck right now.

see the bird die in my hand.

We tried our best to feed him.

I don't think we were able to feed
him enough or good enough food.

Poor little guy.

He was pretty strong.
He held out for two days.

It's a survival situation,

And I need to separate my
emotional feeling towards the bird.

It would be a total waste to have
taken his nest down and caught him,

And not to eat him.

So... We need protein,
we need calories.

And that's what he's
gonna provide for us.

Mmm. Look at that meat inside.

Mmm-hmm.

I'm sad that it died,

But this is the first day
that we've really had

Any substantial amount of food.

I don't know what to
say. This is really good.

The bird's pretty tasty.

I wish it's, like, much
bigg than what it is.

Even though
we ate the baby bird,

I woke up feeling much hungrier.

We know from looking at the map

That there's a river
out here somewhere.

Riparian zones along the edges of
rivers tend to have a lot more fruit,

A lot more animals,
things like that.

I'd be good if we just went
ahead and went right now

While we have the
energy from this food.

In a survival situation,

It's absolutely critical to weigh
the costs and the benefits.

We could get down there and we could
find nothing, and that would really stink

But you don't survive
out here long term

By laying around and not eating.

You know, you've
got to get out there,

You got to be proactive,
you've got to find the resources.

start swimming between your hands.

And when they do that,
it's possible to grab them.

It's pretty frustrating

gonna get anything,

And we're gonna be back
in our camp without any food

I think a lot of
my mentality, and survival,

Has to do with my experience
working with hunger-gatherer

You have to put in the work
constantly to find the food

There's an australian
aboriginal tribe called the mardu,

And the way they would do this is they
would just light this whole area on fire.

And then, afterwards, they would walk
through it and find all the dead lizards.

I understand andrew's admiration

With the tribes he worked with.

He said they're, like, working
non-stop, blah, blah, blah.

But it's just me and him.

I'm just worried that he would
overdo himself and he'll pass out.

divert the water away, in case it does.

If we catch this armadillo,

That means a feast tonight, and
then we're gonna have more energy

For the next few days.

We're not
trying to spear this thing.

It's hard to spear an armadillo.

Our goal is to literally tackle
the thing, jump on top of it,

Pin it down, and
then break its neck.

So it looks like either
smoking them out doesn't work...

Or it's not home.

Or we're not doing it right.

We didn't even hear it squirming
inside the hole, or anything like that,

So I would say
this is a total failure.

I wanna try to hear the
echo through the ground

To see if I can track this
tunnel more efficiently.

This is a technique that
I've learned from the ache.

What I'm gonna get you
to do is take this stick...

And you're gonna just...

Thump it, all the way down
to the bottom of this hole.

The idea is that if the
armadillo is in the entrance,

She'll poke him.

And if he's farther back, you might
hear him moving around in the burrow

Hmm.

I wanna track the shape of the tunnel
underground, because eventually I'll fin

A side chamber, and that's
where the armadillo would be.

Like, this is usually...
Almost always a long process

If you're gonna succeed.
It's gonna take a long time

I have seen the ache catch
tons of armadillos doing this.

It's just a lot of energy we
have to put in right now, here.

They'll have parasites in their
stomach, and we don't wanna get worms.

How does it taste?

This makes me happy, that's all.

We haven't had meat in a while.

You know what we
need? We need a fish basket.

During the past nine days,

Rizza and andrew have only
consumed around 300 calories

Between the two of them.

Every movement is just tiring.

So, really have to think what you
need to do for the day and not just...

Do any random stuff.

We're really
dying to get back to that river

And try to get
some of those fish.

Our body can break down
its own fat to give us energ

It's slow-paced, which is probably
why we get winded so easily.

But protein out here?

You know, your body can't
just manufacture protein.

It'll be worth it.
There'll be ten fishes in here.

I like that optimism.

The ache actually
have very strong gendered norms

About what a man
and woman should do

Or shouldn't do
out in the forest.

So, men, weaving,
making baskets is a no-go.

But I don't feel that way,
so for me it's a no-brainer.

Like, I'm gonna do everything I
need to do to survive out here.

coming down and getting us.

This is where we're camping.

Extraction is down here, so I

In the intense triple-digit
