I'm an orphan and was brought up

and went to school in Denver.

I've always loved the theater,

and I studied drama
in high school.

in the senior play.

Shortly after I graduated,

I met a boy and we fell
in love and got married.

He was on leave and had
to go back to Vietnam.

So I went with him
to San Francisco

so that we could be together
before he had to leave.

After he left,
I stayed in San Francisco

and took a secretarial
course at a business school.

After a few months,
the school found me a job

with an insurance company.

My husband wrote to me often.

That is, until the letters
stopped coming.

And then one day I received
a telegram

from the government saying
he'd been killed in action.

I've never been so unhappy
in all my life.

But,
I pulled through it somehow.

I stayed on my job for awhile
before I moved to New York.

Before I left San Francisco,
I saw you in a play.

When you were on tour
with "Autumn Leaves,"

that's when I became
such a fan of yours,

and was really the reason
I moved to New York,

so that I could see
you on the stage again.
