All language subtitles for 2. Customizing the Workspace

Well you've been introduced to these different panels

and what these different panels do,

now let's modify the interface so that it's exactly the way that you like it,

by just hovering over these different gridlines that

you see that divide the panels,

and when they highlight you can just left-click and move them around.

If you want the Properties panel to be bigger or smaller,

or you want your Node Graph to be bigger or smaller,

or you want the viewer to be bigger or smaller,

that's how you kind of move the windows around inside of NUKE.

Now, each panel also has this icon in the upper left-hand corner,

and this is super useful because you can split these panels up vertically,

horizontally, and do different functions to them.

So, if we want to say, if we want two viewers up here,

we want to see what the beginning of our node tree looks like,

and the end of our node tree looks like,

you can say split horizontal, which will add a second pane to this Viewer window.

We can go down here to the Node Graph and we can hit Tab,

and drop another viewer in there,

and you see our Viewer1 and our Viewer2 tabs are in our original panel,

but if we want to have them in the second pane,

we can just grab the tab and drag it over to the second pane,

and drop it down, and now we've got two Viewers.

So, we've got a Viewer1 and a Viewer2,

and we can connect these to different nodes in our graph,

which we'll do later, and see two different sets of operations side by side.

Now, let's say we want to get rid of this window.

We have got a window that we just don't care about.

You can go up here, you can click on this thing again,

and you can just close the pane down, and now we're back to normal.

If you want to, another nice feature I like to use is the Float tab.

If you want your Viewer just kind of floating out here,

you can resize your Node Graph so that this can be on another monitor,

or this can just be floating around, and you can do that with any of the panels,

it's nice to do that with any of the panels.

So if you've got three or four monitors,

you can just kind of have things on separate monitors,

if we want to get this back into the original interface,

we can just pull this out and pop it back into that window.

It looks like it gave us a split horizontal tab for that,

so let's just go in here, click, and close the pane,

and turn that back into one window,

and that's kind of what we need to do on the fly to get us the

situation that we want to be working with,

and it's up to you.

Sometimes I like to float the Properties panel and put this

on a monitor that's standing on its side,

so that I can see all my properties for all my nodes,

just on a really fresh and easy way to see it.

Now the next thing to take into consideration is these different tabs,

and we've seen very briefly there how we moved one tab

over to another pane inside of a panel.

We can grab this Dope Sheet, and we can put it up here,

and now the Viewer and the Dope Sheet are both

available to switch between up here.

We can move that back down to our original panel down here.

We can go back to the Node Graph,

but NUKE has a bunch of different programs that can be put into

these panels that you're not seeing right now,

and if you just right-click on this bar where the tabs pop up,

and you go to Windows,

you can see these different tools that can be loaded as tabs in each panel.

So we can pick the Pixel Analyzer, we can pick the Script Editor,

we can pick another toolbar if we want another toolbar in there,

and we can kind of put these wherever we want.

Let's put a toolbar over here for no reason.

We can click these Xs and just get rid of these different tabs.

It's important to know that when you right-click in this negative space,

and you go to Windows,

it's going to give you a list of the different tabs that are available,

and you can just tear those tabs off,

and you can put them wherever you want them to be,

so that they're best suited for your needs,

for whatever you're doing at the time.

And I like to use that way better than using these workspace presets

because you want this interface to work for you.

Once you have an interface that you're happy with,

let's say we want the Dope Sheet up here,

you can always go into this Workspace tab,

save your own custom workspace.

So if you just click on the Save Workspace,

you can give it a name, I'm going to call it Patrick's Workspace,

click OK, it's been saved,

and now it will show up in this menu exactly the way that I like it.

So I can go back to,

I should be able to go back to the original compositing workspace.

So it looks like it is set to the basic default compositing,

that's never happened to me before,

but it's good to see these errors so that you can work through them too.

If you go ahead and click on this Reset Workspace,

it should reset the workspace back to the default parameters of the

one that you had selected in the first place.

So, that's how you get back to regular compositing.

So, I can click on the preset I just made and it will take me to this workspace,

and now I can click on the compositing and it will take me back

to that root default compositing workspace.

So that's how you modify your workspaces,

and I hope that helps you get this set up the way that you like it.
