hey guys this is Ola

I'm going to briefly show you how I

approach microphone positioning when it

comes to my own productions and videos

remember this is how I go about it

doesn't mean it's right or wrong so see

this more as of a guideline rather than

look back for this test I'm using a make

us custom hater amp and the carbon

legacy 4 by 12 with Celestion vintage

verde speakers for my videos I mainly

use one shure sm57 microphone just works

great for me I guess when I start the

amp when I start tweaking the amp I try

to make it sound good in the room at

first you should also dial down both the

mids and presence of the amp

you also don't need as much mids as you

think and everything will fit better in

the mix afterwards I'm going to show you

a couple of placements I work with the

general idea is to make it sound as good

as possible at the source rather than

having to use a lot of post EQ and stuff

afterwards start with placing the

microphone straight into the centre of

the speaker this will give you a very

nasty sound with a lot of presence and

attack

when I use this mic position I tend to

put on a low-pass filter and logic to

tame the highs

this next mic position is right on the

edge of the dust cap where it meets the

cone this gets a little less attack in a

bit more bass

in general you'll notice the further you

go out towards the edge of the speaker

the more base you'll get with less

attacking presence this position is even

more off-center

this is the mic position I chose for

this demo in this position I don't feel

that I have to use any post-processing

such as the EQ for this particular song

I'm doing but this is the part where I

record everything two tracks one left

one right
