All language subtitles for How to Record the Harp

hi today I'd like to go through how to

record the harp first let's select the

mic oh I've got some different mics here

and I'll just go through the various mic

options that there are you can use a

ribbon microphone which is quite nice

the these microphones all pretty much do

the same thing but they do them in

different ways so that so the sound is

that it captures a lot of different

large condenser microphone which

probably most commonly used so it's a

vocal microphone but sometimes you see

miss drum overheads that's quite nice -

yeah nice result out of those trusty

dynamic microphone which you've probably

seen a lot on stage another model of

dynamic microphone I probably use these

more what if if I was recording the

harps and honestly with other

instruments because they've got a

smaller pickup but I feel the pencil

condenser which we're going to use today

to record the the Micra so it's like the

large condenser but it's just skinnier

and I've got a pair of those this is a

rode microphone and made in Australia

probably the only thing in the studio

except for me it's made in Australia the

other option you could use for recording

a microphone is perhaps a transducer

which is a little metallic disc or strip

that's attached to the sound board of

the harp itself you use it in

conjunction with the preamp to get a

signal off the house okay I'll see you

in the Liberia here we are in the hub

I've set up two of the pencil condenser

microphones you can just see in front

one is here and one is over here they

pointed towards a heart

fairly equal distance I don't close that

because otherwise they're very sensitive

I've got a like the right sort of chair

take the stereo track from the hard disk

recorder and put it onto the computer

for editing I then use the computer here

for editing the tracks you may want to

edit it to try and get rid of any

extraneous noise if any trucks went past

or if I made a mistake or any other

number of reasons you might want to

boost the volume or just get get rid of

nasty bits so computer is a very good

editing tool and once I've edited the

files to my satisfaction I will use a

program like Sony acid to arrange the

music so I can audition different

combinations and see what a like for

instance this is just the heart or

itself

I can just see on the fly what it sounds

like with a bit of guitar in the

background or with some xylophone as

well and so on so that's an overview of

how I record the harp and edit the files

afterwards I'm not going to do a mix
