hi I'm Darren Schneider I'm the course

director for advanced session recording

here at Full Sail University today we're

in our flagship recording studio with

Rebecca todya we're here to talk about

the basics of piano Mikey for the first

stereo making technique I'm going to

show you XY for this setup we're using

two cardioid condenser microphones the

capsules that are a 90 degree angle from

each other to reduce the amount of phase

issues this is what XY sounds like

our next technique is space pair for

this I've set up two cardioid condenser

microphones about a foot off the strings

this particular microphone is covering

the high end register and this

microphone is covering the low end we've

pushed this mic back down the piano

because of the length of the low end

strings and this is what it'll sound

like

for this next setup we've set up bloom

line bloom line requires two

bi-directional microphones

bi-directional means that it'll pick up

sound from both sides of the actual

microphone the top mic I have focused on

the low end of the piano and the bottom

mic I have focused on the high end of

the piano this will give us the most

natural sound

so these were some of the basic miking

techniques for recording pianos so have
