(Back From The Brink)

(Episode 18)

Elder Lingfei.

Immortal Yunmeng.

I found it.

The culprit of the destruction

of Guanghan Sect's three monasteries on Sanchong Mountain

is Crown Prince of Qingqiu,

Zhuli.

Outrageous!

Qingqiu and Spirit Clan

went too far this time!

They seized the opportunity when my sister's life star fell

and Lingxiao

was away at Starhaven.

Did they really think we were without a leader?

We will make them pay for this!

-Yes! -That's right!

-We will make them pay! -We will make them pay!

Make them pay!

Now the evil dragon is missing.

A nine-tailed fox

could cross the Obsidian River

right under our watch.

I shall capture

this fox spirit!

(The Heart Protecting Scale has left Yanhui for some time.)

(I can no longer)

(locate her.)

(Calabash!)

(Calabash for sale!)

(Yanhui.)

(Where are you?)

(Where are you now?)

Sorry.

He threatened you?

Let's go.

Quick, Bai Xiaosheng.

(Obsidian River)

No.

I can't stay in the Taoist clan.

We have to cross the river now.

The Taoists and the Spirits

guard their borders tightly.

After we cross the river,

perhaps Tianyao

won't find us so easily.

When we reach Qingqiu,

we should be able to shake him off.

No matter how powerful he is,

he needs more than just magic spells

to cross

the Obsidian River.

Let's gather some bamboo sticks.

You said it was called Ganhong bamboo.

Why is it green instead of red?

Are we getting the right plant?

This should be it.

The marking on the map shows...

Yanhui.

I prepared the bamboo for you.

How did you find us?

Here is the only boat crossing

to avoid the Taoists

and reach Qingqiu.

Qingqiu?

No one is going to that lousy place.

I don't know

what you've done to Yanhui,

but I know

you have always wanted to take her to Qingqiu.

The Ganhong bamboo looks the same as normal bamboo.

Its color changes after it's cut down.

Of course I know that.

Did you think I got the wrong bamboo?

Why do you

keep pestering us?

It's none of your concern.

How is it none of my concern?

She and I

went through life and death together.

(Kill him.)

(Take out the Heart Protecting Scale.)

Whatever concerns her

concerns me.

She doesn't want to see you.

Don't you get it?

Yanhui.

(What's wrong with Yanhui?)

Yanhui?

You already took the Heart Protecting Scale.

What more do you want?

Won't you show me the slightest mercy?

No.

Why won't you stop pursuing her?

You...

What?

When Yanhui confessed to you

and you apologized to her,

I thought

you only did so because you had to leave her love

unanswered.

I'm sorry.

(It seems you had already intended)

to steal

the Heart Protecting Scale from her back then.

So...

You were apologizing

for my life.

That's not true!

There is nothing more

she can give you.

Spare her.

Step aside.

This is between Yanhui and me.

Don't go.

I'm not going anywhere.

Yanhui.

I want to speak in private.

How dare you even ask?

Bai Xiaosheng.

I know

we are no match for him,

but we are

in the same boat.

You can't leave me

when I need you

the most.

Yanhui.

Don't worry.

I'm not like him.

Fine.

I'll help you cross the river.

No!

Stay away!

Yanhui.

Let's go.

Bai Xiaosheng.

(A nine-tailed fox.)

Who are you?

Are you blind or what?

(Zhuli, Crown Prince of Qingqiu) I am Crown Prince of Qingqiu.

If you help me defeat

the Taoists,

I will reward you handsomely.

Are you nuts?

They are here! Stop them!

Fox spirit! You are cornered!

Lingfei?

Yanhui?

What are you doing here?

I...

I...

Very well.

Not only did you conspire with the evil dragon

to destroy Yongzhou City,

but you also conspired

with the fox spirit

to destroy our monasteries!

That is not true!

It's a complicated story.

I don't know if you'll believe me,

but I...

You are a traitor.

I'll make sure

you die by my sword today!

Hold on!

(I could use Lingfei)

(to stall Tianyao.)

(That should give us a chance to escape.)

Martial Aunt,

you got it all wrong.

This is his fault.

He is the evil dragon!

He is the one

who took me hostage and destroyed Yongzhou City.

He conspired with the fox spirit

to destroy the Guanghan Sect's mountains.

Yes.

It's his doing.

I can prove it.

So what if it's me?

Time to go.

I'm going to kill you.

I must avenge my sister!

What?

Have you dealt with those Taoists?

-Are you also crossing the river? -Can we share the raft?

I think

it's safer for the three of us

to cross the river together.

What do you think?

Yeah!

You have a point.

Let's go.

Bai Xiaosheng, are you all right?

Tie yourself

to the raft.

If not, you might fall into the water.

Come on.

Yanhui.

Bai Xiaosheng!

It's too dangerous.

Just go without me.

Don't be absurd.

Yanhui!

Yanhui?

Stay away!

Stay away!

Stay away!

There's no more

Heart Protecting Scale in my body.

Don't tell me you'll do it again.

No.

I have no ill intentions.

No?

I see.

I get it now.

You must think

you're becoming a dragon

after taking the Heart Protecting Scale.

You'll become powerful soon.

You don't want anyone else

to know all the unspeakable things you did.

You are here to cut off the loose end, right?

I assure you

that after we part ways today,

I will not tell a single soul

about all the things you have done.

No one else will know.

Yanhui...

Please don't kill me.

I...

I will never hurt you.

No?

That sounds

awfully familiar.

Back at the Dragon Bone Formation,

didn't you

tell me the same thing?

(Are you lying to me again?)

(The Heart Protecting Scale)

(is only a piece of scale.)

I don't mind leaving it there.

Yanhui...

I'm sorry.

I'm truly sorry.

Enough! You won't fool me again.

But this time...

I will never believe you again.

What you did to me

and what Suying did to you...

Aren't they of the same nature?

I've never hurt you as Suying did.

But you

turned into the same monster as her!

You should be grateful

that I didn't bind you to a chair.

To you,

I'm no longer

of any value.

Please spare me.

I don't want to see you again.

Stop following me!

Wake up!

Wake up!

Wake up!

What's wrong with you?

You ingrate.

I saved you.

Instead of thanking me,

you yelled at me!

Bai Xiaosheng!

Yanhui.

Are you hurt?

I was so scared.

I thought I'd never see you again.

It's all right.

I'm still alive and well.

You two must be very close.

You don't see a Taoist falling in love

with a spirit every day.

Miss.

Thank you for your help.

I am a person

who knows gratitude.

How about this?

I'll let you

follow me to the palace to get your reward.

Never mind.

We saved you, but only incidentally.

We have

other things to finish.

We'll go our separate ways here.

Very well.

Hold on!

The thing we want

is right in the Royal Palace of Qingqiu!

That was a hospitable invitation.

We don't mind going there.

Isn't that right?

You still want your reward?

Whatever, I am a generous person.

Unlike

the other spirits,

I don't discriminate against the Taoists.

-Yes. -Indeed.

-Indeed. -Yes.

Well then,

follow me.

It's been an exhausting journey.

I'm finally home.

What a fool.

Things will be much easier

with an escort.

Let's go.

Bai Xiaosheng?

Why is your robe with me?

I gave it to you last night

so you wouldn't catch a cold.

Take it back.

Never mind.

I'm not cold.

Keep it.

This shadow spirit cares a lot about you.

He even gathered some fruits for you.

Who would've thought?

You're a thoughtful person.

I don't do that for everyone.

Don't you feel

someone is following us?

There is no one here in Qingqiu.

There are only spirits.

Don't be paranoid.

Yanhui, don't fall behind.

Take this. It tastes good.

When did you

get so interested in fruits?

I don't want you to starve.

Both of you brought me fruits.

I can't finish all of them.

There is someone else.

Someone really is following us.

Finish your fruit.

We can ignore the others.

I am dog-tired.

Why won't you

follow the directions I gave you?

If you keep taking detours,

it will take

forever to reach the palace!

That fool

is following us like a pestering fly.

We can't seem to shake him off.

I tried to get rid of him.

But he followed me everywhere.

Of course

a little detour won't shake him off.

Wait, hold on.

I followed you this entire time,

but you were trying to get rid of him?

What else could it be?

You could've said so.

I'll talk some sense into him.

Hey, spirit.

Don't you know shame?

We told you to stop tailing us,

so when will you relent?

I know.

You are in love

with the girl.

But listen to me.

There is a limit as a spirit.

You can't simply do as you please

because you are young.

What...

What are you looking at?

That won't stop me from scolding you.

Listen up!

The two of them are close.

Why must you interfere?

Don't you feel any shame?

They are not in love.

But you are still the outsider.

I'm not an outsider.

Don't deny it.

If you weren't an outsider,

why would she be with him

and ignore you?

The girl really hates you.

They've been taking detours.

Why are you still following her?

Who knows what's wrong

with this world?

A lowly spirit like you

has become so shameless

that you don't know when to stop.

She doesn't like you.

Why must you pester her?

The shadow spirit cares a lot about her.

He always listens to her.

They are a match made in heaven!

What do you want?

Are you going to hurt me?

I didn't say anything wrong.

Now you've come to your senses!

You got rid of him?

But how?

I told him off.

What did you say?

Well...

I called him shameless.

Is that all?

Yeah.

You're the shameless one here!

Yanhui.

Huan Xiaoyan?

Where did you come from?

What are you doing here?

I never left.

I was in the ring

when you crossed the river.

Dragon King carried me the entire time.

I sneaked out

of the ring

when he wasn't looking.

Dragon King doesn't know.

What kind of name is that?

He might as well be a chicken,

a duck,

or a goose.

What did you say?

I dare you to say that again.

You're the worst of the bunch.

You kept nagging all the time.

You wouldn't stop talking.

They may be too ignorant to care,

but even you are barking like a bully

-to take advantage of them. -Barking?

I'm a proud fox!

I am Crown Prince of Qingqiu!

I'm a nine-tailed fox!

Who do you think you are?

How dare you speak to me this way?

And how dare you

bring up your title

as the crown prince?

You're just dust when you die.

How dare you disrespect my title!

I should teach you a lesson.

How dare you hit me?

I'll make you pay!

Ouch! My hair!

He's Crown Prince of Qingqiu.

She is the only heir of Phantom Clan.

They are going to be rulers.

Look at them now.

I bet Qingqiu

will fall just like

the Taoist clan.

All right, stop fighting.

Ouch!

Enough! Stop fighting!

Considering

the favor from my life savior,

I'll let it slide this time.

Who are you to spare me?

I must teach you a lesson!

Enough!

It's the middle of the night.

Go elsewhere if you want to fight.

Strike a different pose.

Don't copy my pose!

Phantom spirit.

I don't get it.

He doesn't know better.

He doesn't know the whole story,

but he would still

take our side.

What about you?

You saw that dragon

stab her heart with a sword.

What?

He stabbed you?

Stop yelling.

More and more lowly spirits

can't tell right from wrong.

They would defend even the villains.

What do you...

Get over here.

You got on my nerve.

Yanhui.

I think

Dragon King has gone through a lot.

He's been looking for you

ever since he came back.

You master beat him up.

My master?

Master Lingxiao of Chenxing Mountain.

Dragon King calls him that.

He's back?

Where did he go?

I don't know.

I think he knows you're in trouble.

He beat up Dragon King when he arrived.

Dragon King was already hurt.

She asked for his location.

Just tell her where he is.

I don't know!

Perhaps

he thought you were dead

and just left.

It seems

I should send my eldest senior a message

and tell them not to worry.

Seriously?

You ran into Lingfei

at Ganhong Bamboo Grove.

She will tell the others

you are still alive.

You're right.

I'm not done yet!

Before your master beat up Dragon King,

something big had gone down.

He hurt you

because of Suying.

I know.

You know?

Master Suying was pinned

by the evil dragon on the seat of the Guanghan Sect's main hall.

The whole world knows.

I rushed back to Dragon Valley

and saw the aftermath.

By connecting the dots,

I can tell

Suying must have done

something to provoke him.

That is the only reasonable cause.

Suying

is too cruel and vile.

She killed Yun.

Yun?

(On the cliff west of the path)

(where you came in, )

there is the Linglong Grass that bears blue flowers.

They can treat burns.

Don't be sad.

(Sorry, Miss Yanhui.)

Suying killed Yun

and took all the elves

to blackmail the Dragon King.

Dragon King

didn't have a choice.

So...

He had no choice

but to do it.

What about the other elves?

What happened to them?

They were rescued.

Dragon King sent them

somewhere safe.

Good.

Yanhui?

I get it.

All right, it's time to go.

Give her some peace.

Go on.

You should go.

Yanhui.

Now you know the whole truth.

Have you wavered?

The best I can do

is not hate him.

Sorry.

I only found out today

that you had passed on.

Yun.

I hope that in the afterlife,

you can have a bunch of lovely friends

as you did in Dragon Valley.

May you be happy there.

I don't have any candles

or the little sunflowers you liked.

I could only gather some twigs

and some wildflowers

to pay my respect.

Sorry.

I couldn't keep you safe.

But Suying

got the punishment

she deserved.

Your Dragon King

avenged your death.

May you find peace

in the next life.

I finally understand

that Tianyao

stabbed me that night

to take the Heart Protecting Scale

because he had no choice.

The cause of everything

was Suying.

Perhaps I should forgive him.

But I...

When I see him,

I am terrified.

I can't help but think about

those horrible things.

I'm afraid

I can never look him in the eyes again.

Yun.

I'm sorry.

Please forgive me.

This is outrageous!

Dragon King.

Dragon King.

Just now...

I couldn't help it back in the cave.

So I told her about Yun...

I know.

But Dragon King,

it seems Yanhui is really

going to forget about you for good.

What should we do?

I searched for her

because I was worried her life could be in danger

without the Heart Protecting Scale.

Now,

I only want to escort her to Qingqiu

and make sure she is safe.

Then, I'll leave her.

But...

From then on,

she'll get what she wishes for.

We'll be even.

But Dragon King,

doesn't that make you sad?

I bet he left this morning

and plans on following us.

You!

You said you chased him away.

The fire was just put out.

He was clearly still here.

But...

How should I know

he'd be so shameless?

Whatever, we should move on.

Wait.

Enough detours.

I'll lead the way.

I know a shortcut.

But

people rarely use that path.

It could be dangerous.

But

we can shake those two off.

Why didn't you tell us? Lead the way!

I'd love to slap you.

Quick!

This way.

You two, hurry up!

Hurry!

This fox spirit

has great stamina.

It's not the stamina.

I can feel

there's a karmic force

causing a repulsion with the dark aura

inside us.

I never knew

there was a place like this in Qingqiu.

If this place

does

have this karmic force,

perhaps

we can find a way to control

the dark aura there.

Stop dilly-dallying.

You made the shortcut a detour.

No.

Listen,

I can't walk anymore.

What kind of spirit are you?

You couldn't cross a river,

and now you can't walk the desert?

Why did you fall

for this feeble spirit?

We just got here.

We have trouble acclimating.

Please be considerate.

Hang in there.

The Royal Palace of Qingqiu

is just over this plain.

You can find everything you need there.

Come on.

Come on.

Let's go.

Fox spirit.

What is it this time?

I can't take another step.

Let's take a break.

Take a break.

You are too weak to be a spirit.

I can't take it.

Me either.

You too?

I am exhausted.

The sun is too hot.

I am so thirsty.

-Fine, take a break. -It's so hot.

Don't take too long.

Thanks.

This shade here

makes me feel much better.

Don't mention it.

It's nothing.

That's not his doing.

Huan Xiaoyan?

What are you doing here?

Why are you

still following us?

You can't outrun us

with your short legs.

You...

How naive.

This is your fault.

You...

Stupid fox, don't yell at Yanhui.

Dragon King knows you wouldn't see him.

He wants you to have this.

Take it.

And don't forget

that he drove the cloud here

using magic

to give you some shade.

When you crossed the river,

-he was worried you'd catch a cold... -So,

aren't you a prince?

Can't you get us some water?

You let this lowly phantom spirit

get the chance to earn her favor.

If I didn't know better,

I'd thought

this was the phantom spirits' turf.

Nonsense!

It's just a jar of water and a small cloud!

What's the big deal?

Wait here.

I'll give you

a hearty dinner tonight!

Bluff all you want.

Care to have a match?

Let's see who makes the better dinner!

So be it.

I'm not afraid of you.

Short-leg.

Wait! That's cheating!

Short-leg!

It's almost time.

Come on.

Let's go.

What is this thing?

Don't drink this.

(Kill him.)

(Take the Heart Protecting Scale.)

(Yanhui?)
