[The Ingenious One]

[Episode 31: The Devilish Trick]

[Shao's Residence]

In this way,

I cut off the cash flow of Mo Bufan

and destroyed Guanghui Bank.

The rumor spread.

The reputation of the Su family was ruined.

I think no merchants in Nandu dare to cooperate with them now.

Wonderful.

It is said that merchants in Nandu

are very smart.

But when compared to you,

they are all dwarfed.

Should we think about what to do

with the royal supplier selection?

Exactly.

But there is a problem.

I wanted to take this opportunity to buy

the Su family's craftsmanship of silk organza.

Unexpectedly, Su Mingyu

was too resistant

to hand it over.

Then this should be

a piece of cake for you.

I have a plan.

But I need your help.

The Su family is still hanging on

because it has many businesses under its name.

It can regain its cash flow sooner or later.

All we need is an order from the government

that uses rectifying the market order as a pretext,

forcing the Su family to close its businesses.

I believe within half a month,

the Su family will collapse.

Do you know the current situation

for the government and for me?

I know a little.

I'm walking a tightrope.

Last time I asked for the two imperial decrees for you

to suppress the Su family.

It triggered a lot of criticism.

Sorry for implicating you

because of my incompetence.

Get up.

Get up.

Get up.

It's because of the changes of the situation

but not you.

It's just that we need to stay as far away as possible from

all the government departments

and the Weaving Division.

I understand.

In fact, the Su family is barely afloat.

One more strike can tear it down.

However, although Dafeng Bank

still has 400,000 taels in the treasury,

I have to be prepared for Mo Bufan's counterattack.

So I can't use this money for now.

Therefore, please allow me

to mobilize money from Yangzhou

to prepare for the royal supplier selection.

How much do you need?

Since it's a duel with the Su family,

I've decided to win over silk providers and weavers

in Nandu with a high price

so that Su Mingyu can find no one to use.

Plus, we need money for connections.

I need more than 150,000 taels.

For things concerning money, you can be in charge.

But it involves a large amount of money.

I hope you can keep a low profile

so that there won't be any gossip.

What should I do?

Please give me some advice.

Why don't you sort out

all your businesses in Yangzhou

and gather all the spare money

of each business.

In this way, it won't disturb the business of Yangzhou

or attract the attention of the merchants.

[Shao's Residence]

Sir, His Highness has never

made such a request before.

Is there anything fishy about this?

What's more suspicious is that

you agreed without any hesitation.

Good. You've made some progress.

Send my order.

We'll do

as His Highness said.

Your Highness.

They've left.

Mr. Yun.

Just as you predicted,

he decided to do as I said.

It's all because of

Your Highness's eloquence.

I didn't expect Nangong Fang

would agree so easily.

Nangong Fang may be despicable,

but he has to obey

my father's orders.

But Nangong Fang...

You wanted him to gather all his assets.

What for?

Nangong Fang has countless businesses.

It will be time- and energy-consuming

to tackle them one by one.

Also, it'll be easy to alert Nangong Fang.

I see.

The process of gathering all his money

to one place

is very complicated.

Nangong Fang needs to sort things out

and keep a record.

So, we just need to get this

account book,

we can know all his businesses.

This is a good idea.

And it's easy to implement.

Nangong Fang agreed to do so.

But judging from his temperament,

he will be fully prepared.

If anything happens,

he will destroy the evidence.

It will be hard for us to find out his businesses then.

So, we can only take this account book by strategy.

We don't have to take it.

There are other ways.

Mr. Yun.

Thank you for your help.

But there's one thing I don't understand.

If Nangong Fang is from Lingyuan Sect,

aren't you afraid of his revenge?

It's my honor

to share your burden.

I hope you

can fulfill my wish

as we agreed.

Don't worry.

I've always kept my word.

But Yun Xiang,

Nangong Fang must be fully prepared.

Are you sure you want to go alone?

Don't worry.

I have a perfect candidate to go with me.

You want me to go to Yangzhou with you?

Yes.

Do you really think I don't know about

what happened in Guanghui Bank last night?

You can't deal with Nangong Fang in Nandu.

And now you're going to his base.

In a crisis, we should try to win with unexpected methods.

I have a plan.

It's risky.

But if it works,

we'll defeat Nangong Fang once and for all

and make sure you can become the next

Lingyuan Sect's master.

But for this plan to work,

I need your help.

Tell me about

how to make me the next master.

First, we need to find out what businesses Nangong Fang has

in Yangzhou and even the entire Jiangnan.

If you can control

all his businesses

and hand them over to Madam Kou,

what kind of feat will it be?

What's the plan?

Tell me about it.

This is the situation you want.

What's your next plan?

Take a rest and wait.

Based on your understanding of Yun Xiang,

what will he do next?

He's good at turning failure into success.

He's unpredictable.

His opponents are often caught off guard.

Turning failure into success?

It sounds intimidating.

I can only stay put.

I'll deal with him when he makes moves.

I'm waiting.

You must be waiting too.

Mr. Nangong.

Stop talking nonsense.

Aren't you waiting

for Madam Kou's reply?

Don't blabber.

To be honest,

even if you tell Madam Kou my every move,

even if she knows

I allied with Prince Fu,

so what?

Uncle.

What?

People are here to recover their debts?

No.

Master summoned us urgently,

demanding we go back now.

How many secret reports did I send him?

He didn't reply.

As soon as something happened to Guanghui Bank,

he wanted me to go back to punish me?

No.

Let's go, uncle.

Don't be so petulant.

If we're late,

it'll be harder to explain to Master.

Hurry up. Let's go.

Master urgently summoned us.

Kang Qiao and I will go back to Yuntai first.

Take care.

I was asked to protect you.

But I always can't find you.

If you die,

should I return

the gold she gave me or not?

Jin,

would you like to drink with me?

Didn't you quit drinking?

Today is special.

Cut to the chase.

What's going on?

Are you willing to risk your life with me?

You're quite straightforward this time.

Make it clear.

Why are we risking our lives?

I need to go to Yangzhou.

This trip is going to be very dangerous.

I wanted to bring Kang Qiao.

But he and Mr. Mo have left Nandu.

So, I had no choice but to come to you.

Cut the crap.

Since we're risking lives,

who can be faster than me in swordsmanship?

But you have attachments now.

If you don't want to go, I won't force you.

Maybe I can find more escorts.

Come on.

How about this?

Tell me

all your secrets.

If you can't,

then entrust your life

to those escorts.

My secrets can't be explained

within a few cups of liquor.

Wait.

I'll get two more jars.

I'm done.

We have to hit the road tomorrow.

So, you agreed?

Now you know

the whole story.

You should be aware of

how dangerous this trip is.

I knew you have secrets.

I didn't expect so many.

Your surname should be Luo.

Yes.

My name is Luo Wenjia.

When can we come back

from Yangzhou?

If it goes well,

we can be back in three days.

Fine.

Ten taels of gold a day.

Shouldn't it be

10 taels of gold every mission?

You can't swordsmen easily nowadays.

Can't I increase the price?

Of course you can.

Deal.

It has been a long tour.

Did you find anything this time?

Yes.

Let's meet Yun Xiang later.

Yun Xiang left the city with his swordsman.

Where did they go?

The people around him are very discreet.

I haven't found their whereabouts yet.

After I entered the city,

I noticed that everyone's talking about Guanghui Bank.

Yes.

Because of the bank run,

Guanghui Bank went bankrupt overnight.

Mo Bufan has gone missing.

The Su family was also deeply implicated

and suffered huge losses.

Any other information?

On the night Prince Fu arrived in Nandu,

he was attacked.

The assassin was the woman

who was imprisoned.

What about Princess...

How are Princess and Prince?

Are they hurt?

They are safe and sound.

The suspect is injured.

Without help,

how could she escape from the prison?

Has Yun Xiang been there?

Before the incident, Yun Xiang went to Shao's Residence to look for Princess.

Magistrate Shao was there at that time.

You can tell me about

what you know later.

There is an urgent matter at hand.

It can't be delayed.

I'll give you seven names.

They are all officials who have retired from the Censorate.

Go and find out how they are doing.

Uncle,

have you figured out how to explain to Master?

Even if I can come up with 10,000 solutions,

I can't fool him.

I'd better play it by ear and pray for good luck.

Mo.

Yuechen.

[Yuntai Sect Gu Yuechen]

Yuechen.

Aren't you in Huizhou?

I was summoned by Master,

so I hurried back.

Were other disciples summoned back too?

I heard that Qin Shiyi in Yuezhou,

Wu Shizhi in Zhangzhou, and others all received an urgent call.

It's been years since the last time

we had such a meeting.

I thought I was summoned back

because I made a mistake.

It has been so many years.

Mr. Mo is back.

Mr. Mo.

You're all here.

Mr. Mo.

Kang Qiao.

Master.

After so many years.

Greetings, Master.

[Yanwu Master Zhong Beidou]

Good! Good!

You still speak and behave just as you did.

I'm afraid you'll become too slippery because of him.

You old monster.

After so many years,

you are still so mean.

Let me ask you.

Why did Master summon us back so urgently?

Did anything happen?

All disciples across the country are coming back one after another.

There must be something big.

It is said that

we can see Master's face.

[Yangzhou Pier]

The trip from Yangzhou to Nandu

was so dangerous.

It's funny though.

The Cao Sect that tried to kill you

is now used by you.

Did you agree to come with me

because you were drunk last night?

Nonsense.

We're halfway there.

Why are you still hesitating?

Have you ever calculated

how much gold I gave you

since we met,

considering you've helped me so many times?

You think I don't know?

You gave me 30 taels at the very first.

Since then,

you've never given me a penny.

You seem careless.

But actually, you remember everything.

I've seen shameless people like you.

But I've never met anyone

who's shameless but not obnoxious

other than you.

I'm flattered.

But don't worry.

I'll pay you

this time.

You...

You always appear to be cunning

and afraid of opening your heart to others.

I didn't understand you before.

But I knew although you're ruthless and brutal,

you never hurt your friends.

After knowing your sad life last night,

I realized why you disguised yourself in this way.

Your heart

is still warm.

Trust me.

I've never misjudged people.

Only after I met you did I realize that

there is loyalty towards friends in this world.

Fine.

Don't say those cheesy words.

From now on,

be honest with me.

Say what you want to say.

Don't try to trick me.

Okay, I promise.

How? Tell me now.

How about we become sworn brothers?

You are my elder brother.

I'll buy you a drink after we come back.

Is he that girl's younger brother?

What's his name again?

Young Master of Lingyuan Sect, Kou Yuanjie.

We need to make an alliance with him for our mission.

But you must be careful.

He is also the greatest danger during this journey.

Don't worry.

He can't hurt you under my watch.

Look at him.

He doesn't look like his sister at all.

If that girl has a sister

instead of a brother,

do you need me to protect you this time?

I don't want to talk to you about this.

You don't understand.

I didn't.

But I'm different now.

[Yangzhou City]

We just want to find a place to stay.

What are you doing wandering

in these alleys off the beaten track?

Spies of Nangong Fang

are all over the bustling places in Yangzhou.

We can't go to those places.

Is it safe here?

I more or less know

his deployment in Yangzhou.

This road is absolutely safe.

You have your own informants?

Otherwise, why did Mr. Yun bring me along?

Here we are.

It's a bit shabby.

Hope you don't mind.

It's okay. This is only for a temporary stay.

Shall we take action tonight?

Let's wait.

Let's figure out what's going on first.

Then eat and drink

to refresh.

Here.

You have liquor here?

I have safehouses

in every city of Jiangbei,

each with different uses.

But one thing in common is that I have good liquor there.

Cheers.

By the way,

you only told me

Nangong Fang would gather money from his businesses

but you didn't tell me where the money is.

This is the first thing I need to find out.

Do you have any connections? No, thank you.

It's not difficult.

I'll get some rest and contact my informant.

He left alone.

Will he play tricks?

Are you going to drink all the liquor here?

Don't worry.

I've observed him carefully.

His martial arts skills are ordinary.

Even if I get drunk,

I can take him down in three moves.

Don't forget the people of the Lingyuan Sect

are best at using poison.

Can this work?

It should be able to detoxify all the poison of Lingyuan Sect.

It's settled.

The spy I planted

around Nangong Fang is called Yan San.

We'll meet here tomorrow morning.

It went so smoothly?

Yun.

If this works out well,

I should thank you.

I hope you can leave Nangong Fang to me

as you promised.

Of course.

All these years, I've been helping my mother

supervise the internal affairs of the sect.

My sister has been traveling around

to look for talents and secret techniques,

hoping to find a solution one day

to deal with Nangong Fang.

That day will come soon.

By the way, Yun,

by helping me,

you are saving

Lingyuan Sect from misery.

Then why don't we take the opportunity to break the division

between Lingyuan and Yuntai?

My sister loves you so much.

Then you can be together

after we are reconciled.

Do you have to rub it in?

Come here.

Drink more and talk less.

Here.

Young Master.

Have a seat.

Yes.

It seems Nangong has treated you well.

Thanks to you,

I can get two salaries.

This is for your tip-off last time.

I heard that Nangong Fang is collecting money.

Is that true?

Where is he sending the money?

Young Master, to Nandu.

No way.

I heard that before he sends the money to Nandu,

he should pool it in one place first.

Thank you, Young Master. I shouldn't stay too long.

So...

Human nature is really unpredictable.

Do you really regard Nangong Fang as your master?

We grew up together

and practiced martial arts together.

Are you leaving the friendship behind?

I heard

your seal was taken away by Madam Kou.

So what?

Actually, it doesn't matter.

But even if you have the seal,

I'm afraid you have no right

to know information about Mr. Nangong.

Please don't make it difficult for me.

I'll leave now.

I won't tell anyone about this.

Can you leave?

I shall take my leave.

Can you leave?

Young Master.

Young Master.

Mr. Yun, please wait a moment.

We'll find out very soon.

Please spare my life, Young Master.

I'll tell you everything.

That brat

is really scary.

Your Highness, you came to Su's Residence

with these banknotes today.

I'm confused.

Don't be so reserved.

Sit down and then we can talk.

There were many misunderstandings about what happened before.

After thinking about it,

my father thinks the Su family

is the best candidate to be the royal supplier.

So, he asked me to send these banknotes

to help the Su family in the selection.

Your Highness.

We've heard that

it is your father

who got those two royal decrees.

Although we are just humble businesspeople,

we don't want to be manipulated.

I'm sure we have to return the money one day

if we accept it today.

Your Highness,

I apologize for what we said just now.

But I really don't understand your intentions.

I dare not

accept this money.

You two have your pride.

No wonder Yun Xiang wants to help you.

To be honest,

it is my father

who got those two royal decrees.

He wanted to find a place in the business world of Nandu.

Unfortunately, he trusted the wrong person.

Therefore, he had to change plans.

You just said that this has something to do with Yun?

That's right.

Young Master Xiang is helping my father solve a problem.

The reward he wants

is to let my father help the Su family get through this.

You just need to prepare for the royal supplier selection carefully.

Tell me if you need help.

But remember,

don't tell anyone about this.

Your Highness,

what deal did Yun make with your father?

Is it dangerous?

You'd better not know about this.

Why does Princess Mingzhu's visit to Su's Residence

make you so nervous?

Can't you tell what's going on

or are you playing dumb with me?

Has Princess Mingzhu been in touch with the Su family?

Her visit to Su's Residence is definitely Prince Fu's idea.

Prince Fu asked for royal decrees to suppress the Su family.

But now he's supporting the Su family.

Aren't you worried

that Prince Fu is giving you up?

This reminds me of something.

Prince Fu had never asked about the process

but only cared about the result when he wanted me to mobilize funds.

But this time, he said that he wanted me to keep a low profile,

so I can only use the spare money I have.

What if his true purpose

is to find out

how many businesses I have?

If you lose control of these businesses,

Prince Fu will not be the only one to trouble you.

When did you send the order?

The day before yesterday.

I'm afraid the money

has been gathered together.

Nangong Fang,

I've warned you.

Then who's the one that used Bi Yuewu

to lure the official soldier to me?

There is only one way now.

Please take my token

and go to Yangzhou immediately.

Destroy all the accounts

involving this transfer.

Datong Firm, Jinfeng Street, west of Yangzhou.

Sir,

once they find out the businesses you have,

I'm afraid...

I was just thinking about how to send her away.

The result is certain.

We can't stay in Nandu for long.

While she is not here,

we should pack up

and leave.

[Yangzhou Datong Firm]

It's almost dawn.

Why aren't the next shift here yet?

Who knows?

Since Yan San came here,

the rules are getting messier.

Don't mention it.

He must have gone out

to have fun today.

When Mr. Nangong comes back,

we have to tell on him.

Yes, tell on him.

You don't know martial arts at all?

Did you memorize all the names in the account book?

There are dozens of them.

Don't talk to me.

You know there are dozens of names.

What if I forget?

Let's go.

Jin.

Get me a brush and paper.

Warrior Jin.

The brushes and paper are in the cabinet. Get them quickly.

Go get help.

Are you sure they are correct?

Of course.

Great.

It won't take me long

to make

Nangong Fang's life hell.

I hope you can keep your promise.

You want me to keep my promise?

What about you?

What do you mean?

Do you really think I'm a fool?

How did you know

that Nangong Fang is raising money?

You've been in close contact with Prince Fu,

Princess Mingzhu, and that so-called Detective of Jiangnan these days.

You got the information from them, right?

Then, you used me to lead the way

and get this list.

This is the only copy of the list.

Now you have it.

There's another copy

in your head.

Jin.

You don't need to kill him.

Just knock him out.

Jin.

Ten Taels of Gold.

Roll up your sleeves and show him.

Heart Devouring Powder.

Tang Xiao's pharmacopoeia is amazing.

It's just that the ingredients needed are too rare.

So, I didn't have time to prepare one for you too.

In order to make sure nothing goes wrong,

I ordered Ten Taels of Gold

to leave traces along the way on purpose

so that Nangong Fang's men can find this place.

But to my surprise,

you don't know martial arts at all.

Looks like my preparations are unnecessary.

Ten Taels of Gold, kill him

and then kill yourself.

Yes, Master.

I still fell into his trap.

This poison is so strange.

I can hear and see.

But I can't control my body.

Luckily, you're agile.

Jin.

Didn't you say Dingyuan Pill can detoxify all poisons?

My internal organs are burning.

I don't think it can detoxify Heart Devouring Powder.

It can only help you calm yourself.

How long can it last?

I don't know.

Could it be that Tang Xiao

gave you poison instead of Dingyuan Pill?

Radix Scutellariae, Rhizoma Anemarrhenae, Cortex Phellodendri,

Arctium lappa, and Rhododendron molle.

This isn't right.

When Tianhu was poisoned,

her symptoms were not as serious as mine.

Stop talking.

I remember the formula of the antidote.

I'll take you to get the medicine now.

They got here pretty fast.

I'll get the medicine.

Get rid of them as soon as possible.

Go!

[Chunming Gate]

Doctor, please hurry up.

These herbs are highly poisonous.

They need to be decocted for two hours.

[Medicine]

Kill him and then kill yourself.

Kill him and then kill yourself.

Kill him.

Kill him and then kill yourself.

Kill him and then kill yourself.

Kill him and then kill yourself.

Jin, how are you?

Where is the antidote?

I can't hold on any longer.

I've got the medicine.

Hang in there.

Stand up.

Our men are waiting for us at the pier ahead.

Don't use your internal force.

Otherwise, the poison will spread faster.

If I don't use the internal force,

we can't get out of here.

Stop talking.

Jin, hold on.

Kill him!

Jin!

Jin!

Control yourself.
