Marker.

To go from five to two people is massive to me.
I will explode if I get to lives.
And I'm just one step away.
* Take it to the top *
I know Niall is gonna have a hard time picking two people.
Can't tell you how fast my heart's beating right now.
Man, does Kelly have a tough decision to make.
I am stressed.
I mean, what are you gonna do?
I'm gonna punch you.
[ Laughter ]
I don't want to go back to reality where, like,
"The Voice" isn't a part of it.
* Take it to the top *
I want to go to lives so bad.
That would be the coolest thing ever. [ Laughs ]
* Take us to the top *
So close.
I could taste it. I could smell it.
[ Exhales sharply ]
If I can make it all the way to the end, that would be bomb.
* We're going up, up, up *
* Straight to the top *
Aaaaah!
**
So, Blake, Chance, you guys get to just relax this week
and watch these two have to make
a near-impossible decision... Yeah.
...to narrow down their team.
Any advice for them, Chance?
I know it's a lot of pressure going out there...
I'm gonna cry. ...and making these decisions. Yeah.
Are you bringing tissue?
For you? Fine.
[ Laughter ]
It's a hard thing to do. I mean, this is a real --
You're losing a lot of great, talented people.
At this level now, every singer is just incredible.
So it's just an end-game decision.
But what if they all do well? I know. That's the thing.
That's what I'm stressed about.
Blake, do you have any advice for Niall?
No. No, I don't. See?
You know, because they don't pay me
to try to help other coaches. [ Laughs ]
My job is to beat these three, so...
Okay. Figure it out, dude. Good luck.
[ Laughter ]
You know what I'm saying? Thanks, Pops.
Well, there's some good advice. Yeah. Yeah.
Good luck, Kel. Good luck, Niall.
Cheers, bud.
[ Sighs ]
Y'all want me to blow these out?
[ Laughter ]

Kelly: It's been a minute since the battles.
Yes. Which I am so grateful.
I already thought you were so great
that I knew I was gonna stick with you through the knockouts.
[ Whoosh ]
That's the sound of a steal!
I'm using my Playoff Pass!
D.Smooth: I am so grateful for Miss Kelly Clarkson.
She picked me, little old D.Smooth, to skip the knockouts
and go straight to the playoffs.
I'm literally the only person on Team Kelly
that got the Playoff Pass,
and it is a little bit of pressure.
I'm a little anxious, but I'm trying not to be.
You have the gift to make it all the way to the finale.
Wow, thank you. Thank you so much.
Kelly: I love D.Smooth's voice
'cause it reminds me of the '90s.
Just reminds me those singers
that can just really tell you a story
and break your heart, do all the things.
His voice is incredible.
D.Smooth is my silky smooth singer.
I'm excited about this song.
My song is "Location" by Khalid.
Probably one of the hottest songs in 2016,
and I want to bring that nostalgic effect back
to "The Voice" now.
* Send me your location, let's... * Whoo!
"Location" -- it's a little bit linear for competition,
but the cool thing about D.Smooth
is that he changed it up.
He made it his own. So, he's quite the competitor.
* But you, ohhh *
Oh, my gosh. I forgot how smooth your voice is!
[ Laughs ]
I don't know if you're thinking about
at any point, like, breaking it down,
like, and doing some cool vocal stuff.
We still had four more bars we could do.
Is it possible we could slow the ending down
a little bit more? Oh, my God. That's what I was gonna say.
That was my one note
is I wanted to maybe slow it down at the end.
So I'm glad we have time.
We could even just go right down to...
[ Notes play ] ...and I'll just follow you.
* Send me * Yes, yes. Let me preach.
* Your location *
Yes. Yeah, all that stuff.
I got to see more of the producer side of him this time
with how he arranged "Location."
He's an incredible artist as well as singer.
* Ride the vibrations * Yeah!
I really want to show America you can do anything
that you want to do.
I'm a testimony to that.
* So come on *
I'm from a small town -- Birmingham.
All the fam was around,
so we all went to the same school.
We all rode the same bus.
[ Vocalizing ]
Growing up for me, I fell in love with sports.
People thought I was gonna be that athlete
to look out for the whole 'hood,
but I always knew I was gonna be doing music.
It started in the choir.
My middle school teacher kept pointing me out like,
"Hey, Dave, I want you to do this solo."
She would always tell me, like, "It's your gift."
* Focus on communicating *
To make it to the lives and go all the way,
that'll make it to where I don't have to do anything but music.
Oh, that could pay for all my bills
and my mama bills. [ Chuckles ]
And that's really the goal, you know,
to look out for my family. * I don't need *
That's one of the reasons why I'm here today.
Me being on this show now is like a testimony to, like,
okay, see, he's been doing the right things.
It's a feeling that I can't even explain.
Mnh.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Come on, D.Smooth.
With "Location," here's D.Smooth.
**
* Mmmmmmm *
* Send me your location *
* Let's focus on communicating *
* 'Cause I just need the time and place to come through *
* Place to come through *
* Send me your location *
* Let's ride the vibration *
* I don't need nothing else but you, oh *
* You * Ah, come on.
* At times I wonder why I fool with you *
* This is new to me, this is new to you *
* Initially, I didn't wanna fall for you *
* Gather my attention, it was all for you *
* So don't take advantage *
* Don't leave my heart damaged *
* To understand that things *
* Go a little bit better when you plan it *
* Oh, so won't you *
* Send me your location? *
* Let's focus on communicating *
* 'Cause I just need the time and place to come through *
* Come through, come through *
* Won't you send me your location? *
* Let's ride the vibration *
* I don't need, I don't need *
* No-no-no-no, no, no *
* Hey, come on, ride, ride, ride *
* Come and vibe with me tonight *
* I don't need nothing else but you *
* I don't need nothing else *
* Hey, now *
* So let's ride, ride, ride *
* Come and vibe with me tonight *
* I don't need, I-I-I-I *
Whoo!
* So won't you send me your location? *
* Ooh *
* Focus on communicating, baby *
* 'Cause I just need *
[ Laughs ]
* The time and a place *
* The time and a place *
* The ti-i-i-i-i-i-me *
Whoo! Oh!
* And a place *
* Oh, no, no *
* The time and a pla-a-a-a-a-ce *
* I don't need nothing else *
* But *
Whoo! Whoo!
* You *
Oh, my God!
D.Smooth!
Daly: Give it up for D.Smooth!
That was crazy!
Whoo!
Wow. Alright. Coaches got a lot to say about that.
Let me start with Chance.
That was insane. Appreciate you, Chance.
A lot of improv in it.
You started making it your own song.
I could, like, picture you
in front of hundreds of thousands of fans
screaming, like, while you do your little improv runs.
Wow. Yeah. Yeah.
I see the vision. Yeah, yeah. Come on.
This really the first time I ever felt,
like, smoke from any other team.
Like, I really have not been worried at all till right now.
[ Laughter ]
I thought it was awesome. You did so great.
Daly: Thank you, Coach. Blake.
I don't know that anybody has ever lived up to their name
quite like you, man.
Whatever trickery that was
with the -- with the microphone there at the end,
like, I'm gonna be doing that now.
Just so you know. I'll give you credit.
Please do. Please do, brother. Please.
D.Smooth, always giving the people what they want.
[ Laughter ]
It was like one of those performances
that I can imagine you would never do the same twice.
He doesn't. [ Laughter ]
Which can be scary, I'd imagine.
No, it's not when you're confident,
but he never does it the same.
Kelly.
[ Laughter ]
I-I just feel for Kelly.
I know. So tough.
Your best performance of the show so far, for sure.
Daly: Thank you, Niall. Kelly. Appreciate you.
That's my favorite thing you've ever done on this show.
It's funny that Niall brought it up
and you were laughing about it
because you sing it differently every time.
It's almost like your song, you know? Yeah.
And it's a very rare thing.
Congratulations, man. It was awesome.
Thank you so much, Kelly. Thank y'all. How about another big hand for D.Smooth?
Thank y'all. Thank y'all. Thank y'all. Yeah!
So good, Smooth.
D.Smooth -- his voice is so incredible.
He's so good. The run at the end. That was crazy.
The only thing I ever ask of artists
is I want them to move me.
So, I'm gonna move forward with people that inspire me,
and I only get to pick two.
So, it's just a really hard decision.
That's a really linear song. Yeah, for sure.
That's when I started liking it
was when he started changing the rhythm.
Yeah. So good.
D.Smooth was insane. He really surprised me.
Like, I know that he has a great voice,
but today, I got to see who he is.
But he reminds me of, like, an Usher-type singer.
Yeah. * You got it, you got it bad *
Daly: Coming up...
* Oh, oh, ohhh * Wow!
Daly: ...the artists knock it out of the park...
U2, if you guys are watching,
get with this dude 'cause he's killing it.
Daly: ...in a fight to get to the live shows.
* What a wicked thing to do-o-o-o *
Oh, hell, yes.
* To let me dream of you *
Wow.
That was crazy.
If you don't put her through...
[ Laughter ]
...you are not only fired,
Yeah? ...you are notmy son anymore.
[ Laughter ]
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
Ross: Can I ask you something?
What song do you think I should sing
for the playoff round?
That's an easy joke.
I knew you were gonna make that joke.
The goats were obviously no help.
Gonna bring it back to the kids.
They had a really good idea. Kids, what are you thinking?
* With or without you *
[ Ross laughs ]
* With or without you, oh, oh *
Yeah, that's a big YouTube song.
Let's go -- Do it!
Alright. I'll see what Niall thinks.
Niall: You need to put the glasses down.
Oh, yeah. It would have sucked if I don't.
You should hear me sing without the glasses.
He's so pitchy without the sunglasses.
[ Warbling ] * See the stones set... *
[ Laughs ]
Ross stopped his music career to have a family
and had the wherewithal to go at it again.
That takes a lot of bravery
and try and get your second chance at "The Voice."
Ross has been my second-chance man.
By the way, I cannot tell you how big this is,
to have Bono give us a song.
Ireland's biggest rock star's biggest song.
I appreciate the pressure.
[ Laughs ]
* See the stone set in your eyes *
* See the thorn twist in your side *
Ross has got an underrated range,
and this song starts off real small and low,
and it ends up in Belterville.
* Oh, oh, oh, ohhhhh *
* Oh, oh, ohhhhh *
We're gonna see a completely different side of him
in the playoffs.
That's a workout. That is a workout.
[ Laughs ]
When you come in, you're like,
* See the sto-- *
and everything's * round and round *
Instead of being so round,
just try and make that verse your own. Yeah.
And give it a bit more, like,
* And I'll wait for you *
I like that.
You know? * And I'll wait for you *
Throwing away words and making it more conversational.
And this is what you're so good at...
Yeah. ...telling a story.
* Through the storm, we reach the shore *
Ross: This is the perfect song to get me into the live shows.
I feel like everything's been building to this song.
Before "The Voice,"
I was kind of your run-of-the-mill dude.
I have three kids,
and I kind of stopped performing for four or five years.
* I can't live *
And didn't really see myself coming back,
especially at this level.
It's tough to really believe it.
I hung it up five years ago. I'm a relative nobody, you know?
And I've made it this far.
I know you're into soft rock,
more country-led kind of thing.
Yeah. But this is in your wheelhouse.
You can feel it in the room.
I really want to see Ross take this
by the scruff of the neck,
make it his own, and smash it out of the park.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Yes, Ross. Come on.
Let's rock!
Oklahoma? It's where the Oklahoma
and the Irish thing comes together.
Yeah.
Singing "With or Without You,"
here's Ross Clayton.
**
* See the stone set in your eyes *
* See the thorn twist in your side *
* I wait for you *
Whoo!
* Sleight of hand and twist of fate *
* On a bed of nails she makes me wait *
* And I wait without you *
* With or without you *
* With or without you *
* Through the storm, we reach the shore *
* You give it all, but I want more *
* And I'm waiting for you *
* With or without you *
* With or without you, oh, oh *
* I can't live *
* With or without you *
* And you give yourself away *
* And you give yourself away *
* And you give *
* And you give *
* And you give yourself awaaaaay *
* Oh, oh, oh, ohhhhhh *
* Oh, oh, ohhhh, oh *
* Oh, oh, oh, ohhhhhh, ohhhhhh, ohhhh *
* With or without you *
* With or without you, oh, oh *
* No, I can't live *
* With or without you *
* With or without you *
* Hoooooooooo-ooh-ooh-ooh *
[ Cheers and applause ] Whoo!
Daly: Representing Team Niall,
that is Ross Clayton, everybody.
Come on!
Coaches, some thoughts on that one. Kelly.
To start out comfortable in that lower register for you
and then just sweep on up there with that ache and longing,
the thing at the end, on your knees.
Come on now. Like, it was so good.
Ross: Thank you so much. I loved it.
Thank you, Coach. Blake.
I thought it was incredible.
I don't know why people don't do that song more often.
I think you have to be an Irish coach to get it cleared.
Yeah. [ Laughter ]
I know the guy. [ Laughs ]
The performance was great.
And then it went to incredible there towards the end,
and it was just a powerful moment.
Come on, Niall.
You know you got to put Ross through.
I mean, everybody knows you got to.
[ Cheers and applause ] Daly: Chance.
I'm gonna say this was your best performance on the show.
I loved it. That was fire.
Thank you so much, dude. Thank you.
I don't know that song at all. What?!
Y'all don't all know that song. Y'all are just doing that now.
I don't know it. Keith Urban? Do I listen to Keith Urban?
This is notKeith Urban! Shout out to Keith Urban.
Oh, w-- Wait, wait.
Oh, it's "With or "Without You," U2.
[ Laughter ]
The point is, U2, if you guys are watching,
get with this dude 'cause he's killing it.
Obviously.
I'm actually excited for you
that you just got introduced to this song.
That's an incredible day for you.
Is it super, super famous?
It is a famous song, but if -- It's a great song.
Yeah. Yeah. Alright.
I'll check out this new group, U2.
[ Laughter ]
Chance, thank you.
Daly: Let's get some thoughts from your coach, of course.
Niall, what did you think of that performance?
Oh, dude, I'm so proud of you.
Ross is generally known for his softer,
more country-leaning rock.
So, to hand him one of the greater songs of all time
by one of the biggest bands ever is just huge.
And you absolutely nailed it, as per usual.
I've got some tough decisions to make today, and it's not easy.
Congratulations, Ross. You did it.
Thank you so much. How about another big hand for Ross Clayton?
Thank you.
Mr. Consistent strikes again.
He comes out here every time, sings his heart out.
Whoo!
He's never probably sung a bum note since he's been here.
I'm extremely nervous about the decision today.
As coaches, as audience members,
as people at home, you want to be moved.
You want an artist that makes you feel something.
And I'm looking to see
who's actually ready for the live semifinals.
You would know Bono. You know Bono, don't you?
I know who Bono is. Oh!
And I know who U2 is.
I actually know Bono.
He talks to my mom all the time.
Wow. Yeah.
That just got so much funnier.
Yeah.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs
at Universal Studios Hollywood.
I'm stressing out.
I just -- I just don't know how I'm gonna, like,
watch five great singers perform,
and then I have to choose two. Choose two of them.
I know. The other guys don't even get it. They don't care.
Well, they haven't been on a show like this.
I know. They don't understand.
They don't know the pain. I know.
Blake and Chance... But we do.
You guys know we're standing right here, don't you?
**
Totally. Yep.
We were gonna help you guys,
but now forget it.
Let's leave, Blake. Let's go, man.
I don't really need their help. I don't care.
Yeah, because we've been here.
You haven't. So... Yeah.
**
I'm not shocked at all you're here. Hey, guys!
Four-chair turn. Everybody loves your voice.
You're incredible. Oh.
I remember in the blinds, Cait sang Harry Styles,
and I thought, "She's undeniably
one of the greatest singers in the competition."
Go ahead.
* You know it's not the same as it was *
Kelly: And it was awesome to get to see her evolve as an artist
and realize she likes the big huge songs,
and she's incredible at it.
Your voice is a little reminiscent,
especially when you're doing the lower tones,
as -- as Whitney. Ooh.
Cait Martin is my pop diva, y'all.
Ain't many people can sing a song like her. [ Chuckles ]
I just feel blessed to be able to give you another song.
Not just another song, man.
You picked Heart. You picked "Alone."
It brings back memories from my senior year of high school.
Me and my mom listened
to Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" album
when she drove me every single day. Yeah, yeah.
And her version was the first version I heard of "Alone."
Oh, really? So this is my homage to both of them.
I love this.
* I hear the ticking of the clock *
Cait: My mom is like the biggest cheerleader.
She's the greatest person that I know.
I mean, she flew all the way across the country
to be here for my blind-audition moment,
and she knew that this was always something
that I was destined to do.
* Alone *
Beautiful.
My mom, she's not a singer,
but both of us would be in the car
screaming at the top of our lungs
because that song just pulls it out of you.
And now to be singing it on this stage with this magnitude --
I'm not just singing it for me. I'm singing it for her, too.
So, that's my girl.
I'm sorry. [ Laughs ]
Oh.
* Aloooooooooone *
[ Laughing ] Like, I'm so screwed.
[ Laughing ] Kelly.
I'm gonna quit. You just keep all of us.
Everybody on Blake's team can go home. I'm gonna quit. What in the world?
Exactly! And then we all just stay.
I don't have any notes for you.
[ Laughing ] Kelly.
I don't -- What would I tell you?
"Oh..." [ Scoffs ] [ Stammering ]
Like, there's nothing to say! [ Laughs ]
You're so comfortable in your skin.
I know Celine's version.
I know Ann Wilson's even better.
You didn't even do it like either one of them.
You did it like you.
Kelly: Honest to God, I've been here for nine seasons.
I feel like she's one of the best singers I've seen,
like, overall.
I am stressed out.
My strategy at this point in my team,
'cause they're so great individually,
is who do I think is gonna compete the best?
So, with Cait, you know,
if she nails it just like she did in rehearsal --
I-I don't know how she doesn't move forward.
Later! I'll be the one crying in the seat.
We both will be.
[ Laughter ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
It's gonna be great.
Whoo!
With "Alone," here's Cait Martin.
**
* I hear the ticking of the clock *
* I'm lying here, the room's pitch dark *
* I wonder where you are tonight *
* No answer on the telephone *
* And the night goes by so very slow *
* Oh, I hope that it won't end, though *
* Alone *
* Till now, I always got by on my own *
* I never really cared until I met you *
* And now it chills me to the bone *
* How do I get you alone? *
* How do I get you alone? *
* You don't know how long I have wanted *
* To touch your lips and hold you tight *
* No *
* But the secret is still my own *
* And my love for you is still unknown *
* Alone *
Hey!
* Ohhhhhhhhhhhh *
* Till now, I always got by on my own *
* I never really cared until I met you *
* And now it chills me to the bone *
* How do I get you alone? *
* How do I get you alone? *
* Aloooooooone *
* Aloooooooooooone *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Daly: That is Cait Martin, everybody.
Team Kelly. Wow.
Alright. Let's get some thoughts from our other coaches.
Niall? Wow.
Cait Martin, as always, when you go for your big notes,
they're just so pure and clean.
Song choice -- phenomenal, again.
That was amazing. Well done. Cait: Thank you.
Thank you, Niall. Chance.
Chance: Thought you killed it.
I love how you, like, did the slow walk at the beginning
towards the front when it was still, like,
kind of in that lower register.
And then once you, like, went out,
it was like, just brightened up the room.
It was dope. Thank you. [ Laughs ]
Daly: Blake. I mean, this song is a monster, you know?
And it seemed like you sang the song great
and hit all the big stuff perfectly.
It was just in some of those runs that it sounded
like the pitch kind of got off there for a minute.
But then, like, the body of the song
was -- was right where it needs to be.
So, I think, you know, if I'm Kelly,
this is one of those things where you look back and go,
"Alright, well, yeah, but in the blinds she did this,
and she did this in the battles."
And look at your body of work.
And Cait's awesome. We all love her.
So, I don't know. Agreed, agreed.
Alright, Cait, high praise from the other coaches.
Let's see what your coach thinks. Kelly.
I'm so stressed out.
You know our team is, like, super stacked.
And here's the thing about you, though,
is that you just have such a huge voice.
And what I have to think about
is who you're gonna be going up against on the other teams.
And it's, like, I don't know that there's anyone
in the competition that can really nail a song like you.
You should feel so badass right now
that you just conquered that song
and you did your thing with it. Yeah, agreed.
So cool. Thank you.
How about another big hand for Cait Martin, everybody?
[ Cheers and applause ]
Kelly: Cait's performance was solid.
I do think she did better in rehearsals,
but she's one of those diva pop singers
that are just, like, incredibly gifted.
It's just hard 'cause D.Smooth is literally his name.
He is so smooth, y'all.
So, I'm sohating this decision.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Great job.
Cait: It's very stressful to think about waiting
until the final decision
because I would love to make it to the lives.
I hope it was enough.
Oh, my God. Y'all are really helpful.
Was that sarcasm? No.
Okay. Sorry. I don't know.
He goes, "Was that sarcasm?" No.
Thank you for being helpful. Continue.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Do they have Irish Springs in -- in Ireland? What?
Do they have them in Ireland? Irish Spring soap?
No. It's obviously, like, a good sell for the Americans.
They love anything Irish. [ Laughs ]
Man: Our next artist. Here we go.
Oh, it's actually pronounced "Gina."
Oh! I like her.
Niall: My little Gina.
She's always been my little storyteller.
Her ability to tell a story is insane.
She's got this beautiful stand-out, unique voice.
* I told you to be balanced *
Niall: She speaks at 2 decibels and sings at 400.
It's so powerful.
Gina, your tone -- wow. The depth of it.
The storyteller in it. You have a really special gift.
Gina, you've gotten so far from, like,
that deer in the headlights
that I turned around to in -- in the first audition.
How do you feel, confidence-wise?
I feel good, especially about this song.
I've sung it a lot.
* What a wicked thing to say *
* You never felt this way *
Gina is singing "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak.
* What a wicked thing to do *
I chose that song on day one for her.
I could hear her singing it
as she was singing a different song.
* And I *
Gina: I think the overall message of this song
is about longing.
* In love *
And that's how I feel about the competition.
I want it so badly.
* Want to fall *
This song is one of the most moving songs
I have ever gotten to sing.
So to secure a spot in the lives,
I'm just gonna tell the story
the way that it was meant to be told.
I've sung at bars, hotels, in a mall,
but I'm very shy,
and I have a smaller speaking voice.
I feel more comfortable in my voice when I'm singing,
but they are very different,
and it's very jarring for people sometimes.
Everyone talks about how soft my voice is,
but my voice can do anything.
[ Deep voice ] This is my monster voice.
[ Robotic voice ] This is my robot voice.
Bleep-bloop. [ Laughs ]
* Loves no one *
My God, Gina.
It's absolutely exceptional. God almighty.
Are you okay, buddy? [ Laughs ]
I nearly cried. [ Laughs ]
I'm doing my best to hold it in.
I find a lot these days, young singer/songwriter people
will try and break up lines
to make it sound not like the original. Yeah.
So, I think you sing the first line of the song straight.
* The world was on fire, and no one could save me but you *
We're in round four. Mm.
We're really far.
If I was in your boots,
I would get so much confidence from that.
Yeah.
You've got no reason to be nervous now.
Working with Niall, my confidence has grown a lot.
I feel so comfortable in my own voice and my ability to perform.
The person I met at the audition
and the person I see now all the time --
you're so much more out your shell.
It's so nice to see.
Niall: Gina's got a really round tone
that you can't help but gravitate to.
And if she nails this and puts on a performance
like she did in rehearsal today...
she has to come to the lives.
[ Cheers and applause ]
That's my girl!
Singing "Wicked Game," here's Gina Miles.
**
* The world was on fire, and no one could save me but you *
* It's strange what desire will make foolish people do *
* I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you *
* I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you *
* No, I-I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love *
Oh, hell, yes.
* No, I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love *
* With yoooooooou *
* What a wicked game to play *
* To make me feel this way *
* What a wicked thing to do *
* To let me dream of you *
* What a wicked thing to say *
* You never felt this way *
* What a wicked thing to do-o-o-o *
* To let me dream of you *
* And I-I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love *
* No, ohhh, I-I-I-I-I-I don't wanna fall in love *
* No, I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I *
* This world is only gonna break your heart *
* I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I-I *
**
* Nobody loves no one *
Wow. Are you kidding me?
Hey, come on.
That's so good.
Daly: That is Gina Miles.
Wow.
[ Laughs ] Damn.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Wow.
Oh, my gosh.
Alright. Blake's got something to say.
We'll get to you in a minute, cowboy. Wow.
Chance. Insane.
I didn't know that you had that much control
of your lower register.
Very clear, very distinct.
And obviously, everything that you did
that was high was just like...
I don't know. It was amazing. I don't know.
What am I supposed to say?
[ Laughing ] Thank you.
That was crazy.
I mean, the control he was talking about in
the lower register, especially that you didn't stay up,
that would have been the easier choice.
You came back down to that low, moody tone
that is so cool and mysterious.
You're rad. I love you.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: Blake. Thank you.
If you don't put her through...
[ Laughter ]
...you are not only fired from this show...
Yeah? ...you are notmy son anymore.
[ Laughter ]
I mean, oh, my God.
That was my favorite thing
that I've heard in a long time on this show.
Thank you. Loved it.
Gina, that is by far your best performance.
You know, when you hear a unique voice on the radio,
and you knowthat that's that person,
you've got that, like, distinct tone
to your voice that you don't hear often.
I still have goosebumps from the performance.
You absolutely nailed it, Gina.
I'm so proud of you. Well done. Thank you.
How about another big hand for Gina Miles?
[ Cheers and applause ] My girl!
Niall: Gina Miles, breaking hearts across America.
Tore the roof off this place today.
Absolutely smashed it.
She might win the show.
Now we're talking.
Oh, my gosh. I'm so happy.
And she's 19?
It's crazy. She's good.
This is why my brain is all over the place.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
Welcome to Team Kelly, Neil.
Okay. Great to be here. How does it feel to be on the coolest team?
Welcome, my brother. It feels like I'm finally home.
Daly: We got a steal!
At the last second! Kelly Clarkson!
And you're singing "Have A Little Faith In Me," right?
Yep. Come on, Kelly. Have a little faith.
Come on. I'm singing it to her.
Kelly: Neil is my pro.
It seems like he's just been doing it forever.
His voice is incredible.
It's the reason why this show exists, right,
to find these voices that are just so special.
I wanted him since the blinds, and I was blocked,
so he ended up on the right team.
I love this song. Why did you pick this song?
It's a hymn, really. Yeah.
I mean, it's a pop song, but it's so heavy,
but in a beautiful way. Mm-hmm.
* Have a little faith in me *
He starts out, his tone is so beautiful.
It's like a conversation, and he goes to this, like,
soulful, like, kind of rock 'n' roll place.
* I will hold you up *
* I will hold you up * Whoo.
I feel like Neil has nailed it
every time I've seen him onstage.
But this is my first time to get to work with him at all.
And just seeing the fact that, like, wow,
what I see onstage is really how he starts in rehearsal.
It's a classic sound.
Dude, you're so cool.
That ache, that rasp, the breaks in it.
Whoo, it was nice. Hey. Thank you.
My main thing, I feel like you're thinking
of where you're going next.
Just don't even think about it.
Just, as if you were in your house singing the song. Mm-hmm.
I don't mean do a ton of runs.
I just mean a tiny * Have a little faith in me *
Neil: I've been chasing the dream as a musician
for about a decade now.
Taking the plunge, leaving the desk job in data entry.
That was the best choice I ever made.
It was scary at the time, but, man,
all of the sacrifice is totally worth it for moments like this.
I'm so glad I stole you.
I am very happy, too, Kelly.
I'm so grateful that she stole me and believes in me.
I want her to send me to the live so badly
'cause that was always my goal.
If you get out of your way, out of your head,
it's going to be the most incredible performance.
[ Cheers and applause ]
With "Have A Little Faith In Me,"
here's Neil Salsich.
Let's go, Neil. Let's go!
Yes. [ Chuckles ]
Whoo!
**
* When the road gets dark *
**
* And you can no longer see *
* Just let my love throw a spark *
* And have a little faith in me *
* Have a little faith in me *
Whoo!
* Have a little faith in me *
* Have a little faith in me *
**
* Have a little faith in me, yeah *
**
* When your back's against the wall *
* Just turn around and you will see *
* I will catch you * [ Chuckles ]
* I will catch your fall, baby *
* Just have a little faith in me *
* Have a little faith in me *
* Have a little faith in me *
* Have a little faith in me *
**
* Have a little faith in me, yeah *
[ Laughs ]
* Whoa-oh *
* I've been loving you for such a long time, girl *
* Expecting nothing in return *
* Just for you to have a little faith in me *
I'm amazed, Kelly!
* I said, I will hold you up *
* I will hold you up *
* I will hold you up *
* I will hold you up *
* Your love gives me strength enough *
* To have a little faith in me *
Yeah!
* I said hey-hey, heyyy *
* All you gotta do for me *
* Is have a little faith in me *
* I said ah oooh, yeahhhh *
* Yeah *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Daly: Give it up for Neil Salsich,
ladies and gentlemen.
Wow. Coaches with your thoughts.
Your former coach, Blake Shelton. Blake?
Neil, all you ever do is come out here
and be great every time.
I mean, it's just probably the most consistent person... Yeah.
...on the show this season, and I'm still rooting for you, Neil.
I think you gotta put Neil through, okay?
Okay, Kelly?
Daly: Niall?
Some of your runs towards the end were just amazing,
and the passion you always put into your performance.
Kelly's got some tough decisions.
It's not easy, but I think you might have
just thrown a spanner in the works. [ Chuckles ]
Mr. Neil, well done, man. That was -- That was magic.
Thank you. Chance.
Man, Neil, you know I rock with you, man.
It was just a very dynamic performance.
Great song choice.
I feel like you could win the whole thing.
I know you love him. I do.
But I love this performance, too.
It was incredible.
And it's interesting 'cause I feel like
I know you more when you're performing.
Like, you're very shy. Like, well, with me.
Maybe I -- I can be a lot.
You know, we haven't had a chance to talk too much,
but I think seeing you onstage, though,
I, like, see who you are.
And I almost think it's like home for you.
And it's, like, where you feel like your purpose is
and your passion.
You did a great job with this song.
You did. You did an incredible job.
Daly: How about another big hand for Neil Salsich,
ladies and gentlemen?
Blake: I got to say, I'm a little bit regretful right now.
Neil was on my team, and he just came out here
and absolutely killed it.
He's so good. Yeah.
It pains me to say that Kelly's team
had some serious standouts today,
and she's gonna be a contender in these lives.
You know, in -- in 20 years I haven't been able
to talk to you that much, either, though...
You don't. ...'cause you can't get a word in around here with her.
[ Chuckles ]
[ Laughs ]
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Hi! How's it going?
It's going so good. Welcome, finally.
You finally made it. Home team.
Team Niall.
Come on up, Tasha!
Daly: There it is!
We got a steal! Come on home!
I've always been a huge fan of Tasha.
I tried to get her on day one.
Couldn't get her, but I was able to steal her in the last round.
Group hug.
Blake: Tasha has a lot of power,
and she's constantly trying to push the envelope.
I'm probably gonna regret letting Tasha go.
**
Niall: Tasha is the risk taker of the group.
She's not afraid to really go for stuff.
Really challenge herself.
Tasha, welcome home.
How did you feel about last week?
I was really shook.
I'm not gonna lie. Really?
I just wanted to go in with the mindset of
"If this is my last performance..." Yeah?
And I did, and then you pushed your steal.
And then I, like, fell to my knees, so that was great.
There was no way I was letting you go anywhere.
I'm so glad.
Well, you're here now.
And my song's name is "Here." Exactly.
* I'm sorry if I seem uninterested *
Tasha: I will be singing "Here" by Alessia Cara.
This song is super personal to me
because in the song she talks about how she's different
and how she doesn't fit the mold.
The biggest thing moving to America from Pakistan
has been the culture shock of it all and being an outcast.
I felt that way somany times.
* I'll be over here *
But it's a big accomplishment to be here.
And I can't believe I'm here.
* Here *
Now I'm living my dream.
* Oh, here * Whoo!
That was intense.
Gonna have to, like, work on picking your points to breathe.
I wonder, is there any way of giving her some space before that?
Yeah, we could probably give her a bar of space.
**
* I asked myself what am I doing *
[ Scatting ]
Oh, so cool. See what I mean?
At the very end... Yeah?
...the band comes out at a point.
The BVs keep going, * Oh, here *
* Oh-oh-oh, here * Sure.
**
* Oh, here * * Oh-oh-oh, here *
* Ooh * * Oh-oh-oh, here *
That was obviously a bad version of
what we were trying to do. No.
You could be the BGVs, easily. Alright.
[ Laughs ] Looking for a second job.
Oh, and Niall is so cute.
We just had so much fun.
We were just, like, bouncing off each other,
and there was just so much good energy.
I just really, really want to make him proud
and just have a good performance.
One Direction basically taught me, like, English music.
Really? Actually?
Growing up in Pakistan, like, we don't have
a lot of English music.
I, like, went on YouTube and your auditions
were, like, the first thing, and I was like,
"Oh, my gosh, this is so cool. These things happen?"
And then I just was obsessed. Oh, my God.
* Hours later, congregating... *
Niall: If Tasha can get up there and perform,
show me why I was right to steal her,
she could be amazing in the lives.
Oh, my team is so stacked.
I don't know how I'm gonna do this. [ Chuckles ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
With "Here," please welcome Tasha Jessen.
Whoo!
**
* Ooh, ooh, ooh *
* Whoa *
* Sorry if I seem uninterested *
* Or I'm not listenin' *
* Or I'm indifferent *
* Truly, I ain't got no business here *
* But since my friends are here *
* I just came to kick it *
* But really, I would rather be at home all by myself *
* Not in this room with people who don't even *
* Care about my well-being *
* I don't dance, don't ask *
* I don't need a boyfriend *
* So you can go back *
* Please enjoy your party *
* I'll be here *
* Somewhere in the corner under clouds of marijuana *
* With this boy who's hollering *
* I can hardly hear over this music I don't listen to *
* And I don't wanna get with you *
* So tell my friends that I'll be over here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Oh, oh, oh, I asked myself what am I doing here? *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* And I can't wait till we caaaa-aa-aaan *
**
* Hours later, congregating next to the refrigerator *
* Some girl's talking 'bout here haters *
* She ain't got none *
* How did it ever come to this? *
* I shoulda never come to this, so *
* Holler at me, I'll be in the car when you're done *
* I'm standoffish *
* Don't want what you're offering *
* I'm done talking *
* Awfully sad it had to be that way *
* So tell my people, if they're ready *
* That I'm ready *
* I'll be standing by the TV with my beanie low *
* Yo, I'll be over heeeere *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Yeah * Whoo!
* And I can't wait till we can break up outta here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here * * Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here * * Oh, oh, oh, here *
* No-no-no-no, no, no, no *
* Here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Here *
* Oh, oh, oh, here *
* Heeeeeeeeere *
* And I'll be over here *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Tasha Jessen, everybody.
What's up?
Tasha!
Alright, we get some thoughts from our coaches.
You remember him? Your old coach, Blake.
Oldbeing the key word.
Are you mad at me right now?
Just a little. God, I know it. I don't blame you.
Wow, you're on 10 from the time the song starts till it ends.
One of the things that I love about you
is the challenges that you take on for yourself.
I mean, come on.
We're talking about Tasha here, man.
I love Tasha. I love you, too, Blake.
Chance? I feel like when it started off,
it was a little rocky, but once you settled in,
you just took complete and total control over the song.
And to me, that's even better than being good the whole time,
'cause it takes a lot of confidence to, like,
come back into it.
Thank you, Chance. 'Cause your team is so stacked
and Tasha kills it every week, so good luck with that, Niall.
Daly: Kelly.
Kelly: You are a very talented artist.
With this one, I feel like it wasn't your best performance
only because the song got away from you a bit.
But when you locked in,
especially when you get up there in those big notes,
it was really cool.
I'm a fan of yours.
Tasha: Thank you, Kelly. Alright, Tasha,
let's see what your coach Niall thinks. Niall?
This song was always gonna be a big task
just on breathing control alone,
and then it just got a little bit away... Yeah.
...but you picked it up and you just got back on board.
And actually, that was the best half of the performance,
if you ask me. Your voice is incredible.
So proud of you. Well done. How about another big hand
for Tasha Jessen?
[ Cheers and applause ]
From day one, I was a huge fan of Tasha.
Today, she did an amazing job. She's an incredible singer.
She makes my decision hard.
We have a good team.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
Hello. Woman: Hello, my friend. How have you been?
Pretty good. I'm -- I'm ready to cry.
This will be my most vulnerable interview. Mm.
[ Chuckles ]
I love you so much. I love you.
You are just such a gift.
If you make the playoffs, I'll get you there.
Are you excited? I'm -- Oh! [ Laughs ]
I'm so excited. I'm not done yet.
I love that!
* You say that you care *
Kelly: Ali sings with her entire body.
That cannot be taught.
Growing up, she felt like her hearing was a hindrance,
when, in reality, it makes her an incredibly gifted singer.
She not only hears it differently than us,
but she feels it.
She speaks straight from her soul.
**
Ali is my inspiring soul singer.
So, I chose "Never Alone"
by Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin. Kelly: Yeah.
This is a big song.
It is a big song. Which is very smart, by the way.
This is the time to do a big song because
I have to choose two people out of five. I'm so sorry.
* Tell me, do you believe in miracles? *
I am singing "Never Alone" to really honor
my three passed loved ones -- my grandma Diana,
and then my Uncle Rich and then my grandma Rose.
She was always front row for every show I've done.
She did pass right before I got this opportunity,
but I know that she would have absolutely loved
to see me do this.
There is a line in the song that says
"I can hear Heaven singing out."
* I can hear Heaven singing out *
And I know they're singing along with me
and telling me that...
[voice breaking] I am special.
[ Vocalizing ]
My whole life, I have been surrounded
by so much support from them.
And throughout this entire journey,
I have never been alone.
* You are never alone *
That was so cool. I have a trippy idea.
If we did it, like, more of an acoustic vibe
and just slow the song down a bit
and then it builds up. Right.
It's about you showcasing your voice.
So I want it to get churchy,
but I feel like that shouldn't be till the end.
I like that. Yeah.
Ali's greatest strength is not only that she sings beautifully,
but she feels it.
And her runs are just so different
than any other singer I've ever heard.
One of the coolest artists I've ever worked with on this show.
You hear music better than most people.
That's what's incredible. Thank you.
I don't know that you realize how special that is.
That was amazing, Ali. Thank you.
I love Ali. I love my whole team.
Everybody is so gifted.
Like, so incredible. Ah! Thank you.
I'm super screwed.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Kelly: Whoo! Ali!
Come on, Ali. Yeah.
With "Never Alone," Here's Ali.
**
* Mmmmmmm *
**
* In my time, I've traveled some roads *
* A rolling stone *
* Nowhere feels like home *
* I've seen people come and they go *
* Life is just a story of some highs and some lows *
* Tell me, do you believe in miracles? *
* I'm standing here before your eyes *
Whoo! Yeah.
* I've cried many rivers *
* I've walked through some pain *
* I've see my world crumble *
* And I'll carry the shame * Yeah!
I know. * But I know somebody *
* He calls me his own *
* I can hear Heaven singing now *
* Oh-oh-oh, you're never alone *
* No, no, no *
* You're never alone * * Alone, no, no, no *
* No, no, no, no *
* Oh-ohh-oh *
* I may have took some time *
* But now I realize *
* My imperfections were a part of Your plan *
* If all things work together in the end *
* The broken will be beautiful *
* I've cried many rivers * * I've cried *
* I've walked through some pain * * Walked through some pain *
* I've seen my world crumble * * My world crumble * Yeah!
* I'll carry the shame *
* I'll carry the shame *
* But I know somebody *
* He calls me his own * * He calls me his own *
* You better sing it now *
* Oh, you're never alone * * Alone *
* You're never alone *
* Oh, you're never alone *
* Never alone *
* Oh, you're never alone * * Everybody loves you *
* Never alone * [ Vocalizing ]
Whoo!
* We are *
* We aaa-aaa-aaare *
* Never * Whoo-hoo!
* Alone *
Whoo!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Ali, ladies and gentlemen!
Thank you.
**
Whoo-hoo-hoo. Alright, Coaches.
Ali. Hi.
I'm a big storyteller fan.
My ear goes to that kind of voice.
You've got, like, that soul with storytelling
and you just bring it every time.
From day one, Ali's been a favorite of mine,
and I would send Ali through, personally.
Thank you so much. I appreciate that. Thank you, Niall. Chance?
Thank you. Every week you impress me so much.
And it's so weird 'cause I know that you're phenomenal
and I know you're gonna kill it.
And then you just do better than what I thought.
It's fire. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Chance. Blake?
You know, you have this way
of accomplishing whatever your vision is.
And there were just a few places
I felt like it kind of got away from you.
But you're such a fan favorite now
and just a special artist, and we all love you,
that it's hard for me to imagine you not going forward.
That's my thought, Kelly.
Thank you, Blake. Thank you. Thank you, Blake.
Alright, Ali, let's see what your coach thinks.
Kelly?
Your runs are just so interesting and cool
and fresh and different from anybody else.
And you move me, which as an artist,
I always love to be surrounded by.
So, congratulations. Thank you, Kelly. Thank you.
How about another big hand for Ali, ladies and gentlemen?
Ali does these incredible things that I can't do,
and she challenges me and inspires me,
and she's so remarkable.
So, yeah, that makes it really hard.
* So bring on the rain * Daly: Coming up...
...the performances heat up.
* Like it like thaaaat *
Oh, my God. You guys, this is really hard.
Can't tell you how fast my heart is beating right now.
Daly: ...and the emotions run high.
I am stressed.
What are you gonna do?
I'm gonna punch you.
[ Laughter ]
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
I can't believe I made it to playoffs...
* "The Voice" * ...on "The Voice."
What was that? Sorry.
Ever since blind auditions,
this weird thing has been happening to me.
Where every time I say...
* "The Voice" * ..."The Voice"...
it does that!
* "The Voice" * "The Voice." "Voice." "Voice."
Ahhhh!
Just watch my playoff.
Niall: How did you feel the knockouts went?
I was a little nervous there for a minute. Yeah?
It felt really neck and neck.
Yeah, but you were just so good.
Michael is hands down one of the standout singers
in this competition.
He has this musical theater-ness to his pop voice
and he's grown so much in this competition,
and all the coaches are starting to take notice now.
Michael B. is my theatrical dark horse.
This song is a beast, but it's so good.
This song was, like, vocally made for you,
and if you can connect in any way to the lyric,
then we're whoo-hoo!
Whoo-hoo! We're flying.
* You're feeling nervous, aren't you, boy? *
For playoffs, I am singing Brandi Carlile's "The Joke",
and this song is a little bit about the groups of people
that feel unloved or unwanted or misrepresented.
And I'm gay. Let's get that out of the way.
* Let 'em laugh *
I came out when I was 19, and it just reached a point,
I was like [whispering] I can't hold this in any longer.
I can't keep this secret. It's driving me crazy.
You just want to, like, live.
* In the wind *
And for a minute, I thought, "Will I ever find happiness?
Will I ever do what I love?"
And it took a while, but it's happening.
And I never thought I was ever gonna get anywhere
on a show like this.
[ Vocalizing ] But I'm ready.
There's not many people in this competition
who can just sing like that.
In the verse, I feel like you need
to get into your...
the way you sang the verse last week.
Ah, okay. You know, the way you're like
* You're feeling nervous, aren't you, boy? * Mm.
Give it some of that drama, some of that vibrato in places.
And then the very last "and the joke's on them,"
where are you musically at that point?
We come down here.
* Ohh-oh *
Mm.
* And the joke's on them * Oh, that's nice.
I love that.
* They come to kick dirt in your face *
Niall: Michael is a rangy singer.
He can sing all across the scale.
This song has that in abundance.
It's a really challenging song to sing,
but I've got confidence in my Michael.
[ Cheers and applause ]
I love this song so much.
Yeah.
With "The Joke," Here's Michael B.
**
* You're feeling nervous, aren't you, boy? *
* With your quiet voice *
* And impeccable style *
**
* They can kick dirt in your face *
* Dress you down and tell you *
* That your place is in the middle *
* When they hate the way you shine *
**
* I see you tugging on your shirt *
* Trying to hide inside of it *
* And hide how much it hurts *
**
* Let 'em laugh while they can *
* Let 'em spin *
* Let 'em scatter in the wind *
* I've been to the movies *
* I've seen how it ends *
* The joke's on them *
* Oh-oh-ohh *
* They come to kick dirt in your face *
* To call you weak and then displace you *
* After carrying your baby on your back across the desert *
* Oh-ohhh *
* I saw your eyes behind your hair *
* And you're looking tired *
* But you don't look scared *
* Let 'em laugh while they can * Okay.
* Let 'em spin *
* Let 'em scatter in the wind *
* I've been to the movies *
* I've seen how it ends *
* And the joke's on *
Come on, Mikey!
* Theeeeem *
* Hey, yeah, yeah *
* Ooooh-hoooo *
* Oohh *
* The joke's on them *
Wow.
* The joke's oo-ooon them *
Oh, my gosh.
[ Cheers and applause ]
[ Laughs ]
Daly: That is Michael B.!
Alright.
I just -- Look, let's just hug it out.
That's all I want. That's all I want.
It's like -- That was so crazy. Thank you.
Oh, my God. Like --
I'm trying not to cry. That was so good.
Okay, Michael, I've known that you're so talented
this whole time, but, like...whoo.
I was like, why is this dude not in, like,
the theater on Broadway?
Like, your voice is just so booming and beautiful.
That falsetto stuff at the end, what?
I was like, I didn't even need that,
but you, like, gave it to me anyway.
Like, it was crazy.
Thank you. Thank you, Coach.
Blake.
So here's what I think, uh, Niall.
[ Laughter ]
Thank God you're going.
[ Laughter ]
Michael, that was incredible, and I've got to say, you know,
I don't know how you don't go through
because I haven't seen anybody pour more of themselves
into a performance than you have.
Daly: Thank you, Blake. Chance?
Mikey B., my boy.
Seeing this other side of you was really cool to me.
I'm used to seeing you do, like, a lot of crazy runs,
and now I'm getting introduced to, like, your sustains.
I don't know. I'm always Team Mikey B.,
so, like, you know, I'm gonna say send you through.
Very good job on doing, like, a different style this week.
Thank you. Thank you so much.
Daly: Alright, Michael, let's see what your coach thinks.
Oh, Mikey. I can see you can connect to this lyric,
but you have this ability to show it like most people can't.
You can do the technicalities.
You do them so well, but your connection to a lyric
is unlike anyone else in the competition.
I'm just so proud of you. Thank you.
Like, it's -- What a great job yet again, Mikey B.
You're the best. Daly: How about another big hand for Michael B., everybody!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Niall: Michael B. was just so good today.
I mean, the performance speaks for itself, really.
You know, like we were all nearly in tears.
Well done. Great job.
I don't think there's anyone else in the competition
that could have done that.
Michael's one hell of a singer,
but Ross is just the most consistent guy
in this competition,
and Gina has really, really stepped up to the plate
when it mattered.
I've got such a close knit and talented team
that I've become really good friends with.
In just a few moments, five people become two,
and it's gonna be a really, really tough decision to make.
He's so good, isn't he?
Dude, he is a finale singer. He is the guy.
Like, I don't think anybody in the competition left
can even do what he does. Yeah, I know.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Holly, who you're gonna see in a minute, the country singer,
she takes a song that I've known for, pfft, since high school,
and I have never heard anybody do this with this song.
Kelly: My favorite thing about Holly
is that she's like one of those Russian dolls
you keep opening up and there's, like, another layer,
another surprise.
Holly Brand is my country artist with a twist.
She's got some secrets back here in her backpack
that she pulls out sometimes and you're like, "What?"
* ...really always been *
Niall: I love Holly Brown.
From day one, I've always been a huge fan.
I lost out to Kelly in the blinds.
I've been upset ever since.
I love your whole vibe. Thank you.
I love this song. I do, too.
I'm singing "Bring On The Rain" by Jo Dee Messina.
I was really excited to do this,
especially, like, for what it means to me in the lyrics.
I feel like this song is really just about perseverance
and helping people through, like, difficult times,
and so when I sing it,
I think about my brother when he joined the military.
My brother is probably the most supportive person
that I have in my life.
It was really hard to not be able to talk to him
and not really know when you're gonna see him again,
if he's gonna get deployed
and, like, kind of the status of his safety.
And so when I sing this song,
I kind of think about, like, that moment in my life.
* So bring on the rain *
Wow!
Holly, she's impressed me nonstop,
and the other coaches, with her technique.
She's just got this amazing range, killer tone,
but we have yet to really see the emotional side of her yet.
* I might hang my head *
* I might be barely breathing, but I'm not dead * What?
She saved the best for last. [ Chuckles ]
Like, it was -- This is an incredible performance.
* Ooooooh *
[ Chuckling ] That was, like, so pretty.
Are you crying? Yes.
Shut up. [ Chuckles ] Stop! You're gonna make mecry.
[ Chuckles ] I'm -- Like, literally,
I started laughing I was crying so much. [ Chuckles ]
Obviously, if you did it just like that, it'd be great.
[ Chuckles ] Like what?
But if I'm being a perfectionist,
you know I love the whistle stuff,
but I felt like it took me out emotionally.
You want everyone to be me and, like, crying.
Okay.
Every time that Kelly gives me a compliment
or says something, I, like, hang on to every word.
It's so inspiring to me and so encouraging for me,
especially because I almost didn't audition for the show
'cause I didn't feel like I was good enough.
That was so good.
And I went through a really difficult time
finding myself over the last couple of years
of, like, having this dream and wanting to accomplish it,
but just truly not believing in myself.
Kelly makes me believe in myself.
Get out of here. Okay.
I don't have no time for you.
You make me cry. Thank you.
[ Chuckles ]
I would love to make it to live shows.
Hopefully, Kelly pulls for me. [ Chuckles ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
With "Bring On The Rain," here's Holly Brand.
Yeah, Holly! Come on, Holly.
**
* Ooooooh *
* Another day has almost come and gone *
* Can't imagine what else could go wrong *
* Sometimes I'd like to hide away *
* Somewhere and lock the door *
* A single battle lost, but not the war *
* Tomorrow's another day *
* And I'm thirsty anyway *
* So bring on the raaaaaain *
* It's almost like the hard times circle 'round *
* A couple drops and they all start coming down *
* I might feel defeated, and I might hang my head *
* I might be barely breathing, but I'm not dead *
* Tomorrow's another day *
* And I'm thirsty anyway *
* So bring on the raaaaaain *
* I'm not gonna let it get me down *
* I'm not gonna cry *
* And I'm not gonna lose any sleep toniiiiiight *
* Tomorrow's another day *
* And I am not afraid *
* Bring on the raaaaaain *
* Tomorrow's another day *
* And I'm thirsty anyway *
* So bring on the raaaaaain *
* Bring on the raaaaaain *
[ Cheers and applause ] Whoo!
Whoo!
Yeah!
Alright, Coaches. We'll start with Blake.
Hi, Holly. Hello.
It's a tough part of the competition,
and I know Kelly is probably gonna cry.
You're her favorite,
the person who went before you was her favorite,
and now it's all starting to come crashing down.
What are you doing to me right now? I know.
But you know what? I thought you did a killer job.
You definitely took the song and took some risk in there.
Changed up the melody a little bit.
Good job, Holly. Thank you.
It was so nice to see that side of you.
We hadn't really seen anything like that from you.
Kelly, you know how much of a fan I am of Holly,
so I'd be going with Holly for sure.
[ Cheers and applause ] Thank you.
Thank you, Niall. Chance?
The first line that you sang made everybody sit up.
You have an amazing voice and great control.
I do feel bad for Kelly
'cause I didn't realize how stacked your team is,
so gonna be a difficult decision. Yeah.
Great job, Holly. Thank you.
Thank you, Chance. Kelly?
We haven't, like Niall said,
heard you sing anything like this yet.
And this is when it starts to get tough
and you want to, like, show a different side of your voice.
You bring us to that place of struggling,
and it's painful, but you're gonna overcome it.
That's a really cool thing that very few artists can do.
Obviously, your voice is ridiculous.
Great job, Holly. Thank you.
How about another big hand for Holly Brand, everybody?
Kelly: Holly did a great job.
I feel like she can conquer different lanes.
Like, she's country,
but she's got whistle notes, she's got runs.
She's this really capable singer of covering any genre.
I think she's so cool.
It would mean everything to me to go to the live shows.
I have been watching "The Voice" for as long as I can remember.
I would dream of the day that that would be me,
so fingers crossed.
I'm so nervous right now. Blake was not helpful.
[ Chuckles ] I was like, "What?"
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
Mr. Playoff Pass! Mr. Playoff Pass!
Welcome back. Slay, slay, slay.
Thank you. Yeah, I'm glad to be back.
You impressed me from day one
'cause you're 15 and you feel like you're 25.
I mean, you're just so talented.
It makes me upset a little.
[ Laughter ]
The music industry is in good hands if Ryley Tate's in it.
He's a super gifted, talented 15-year-old,
and he's still able to get up there every time
and sing the most emotional songs with the most passion.
Ryley Tate is future boy.
I'm using a Playoff Pass!
Chance: Ryley Tate is just incredible.
I think he's one of those people that could win the whole show.
I'm a little worried about him.
Thank you so much. So good.
Ryley Tate's always showing me
why he deserved that Playoff Pass.
How did you find sitting up with all the Playoff Pass people?
It was amazing to see everyone perform.
It did kind of make me, like,
"Oh, dang, I really got to make sure I bring my A-game
in the next round 'cause I'm not getting to do
a knockout performance." For sure.
So how do you feel about this, "when the party's over"?
I'm so excited, for real.
I've loved Billie Eilish forever.
She's my number-one favorite artist of all time.
I can understand.
You seem similar, the way you think of music
and the melody choices that you make.
* Don't you know I'm no good for you? *
I'm singing "when the party's over" by Billie Eilish.
I think this song is really about feeling lonely.
* ...you, can't afford to *
I have four siblings.
I definitely feel different from a lot of them.
They all like to do sports and they're more athletic
and I'm more on the art side of things.
* And I could lie, say I like it like that *
It can definitely feel distant sometimes
when they're doing their things and I'm doing mine,
but my siblings definitely are very supportive.
With a lot of my performances I've done,
they are in the audience, they're cheering me on,
and I really appreciate them for that.
* ...that *
Whoo!
Keep that first verse tight and soft,
and don't overthink it, either.
What's amazing about your voice is when you soar, you crack,
and I kind of nearly want to hear
some of your lower register tremors,
but when you're thinking so, "I'm gonna nail this,
I'm gonna nail this,"
it doesn't allow you to be vulnerable.
Yeah, this is a really emotional song.
Yeah, I think that's gonna be the big part here,
is connecting to the song
'cause the singing part, for you, is your strong point
and your consistency. Thank you.
I can see Ryley Tate being an unbelievable
singer/songwriter/pop star.
His voice is so different. It's gonna grow.
He's already writing his own stuff.
He's already producing his own stuff.
I can see glimpses of myself in him,
but he has this maturity to him.
He's way beyond his years,
and I was -- definitely wasn't like that
when I was 15, put it that way. [ Chuckles ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
Ryley Tate. Let's go, Ryley, come on. Let's do this, man!
With "when the party's over," here's Ryley Tate Wilson.
**
* Don't you know I'm no good for you? *
* I've learned to lose you, can't afford to *
[ Cheering ]
* Tore my shirt to stop you bleedin' *
* But nothin' ever stops you leavin' *
[ Cheers and applause ]
* Quiet when I'm comin' home and I'm on my own *
* And I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that *
[ Cheers and applause ]
* Don't you know too much already? *
* I'll only hurt you if you let me *
* Call me friend but keep me closer *
* And I'll call you when the party's over *
[ Cheers and applause ]
* Quiet when I'm comin' home and I'm on my own *
* I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that *
* I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like thaaat *
* Quiet when I'm comin' home and I'm on my own *
* I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like that *
* I could lie, say I like it like that, like it like thaaat *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Ryley Tate Wilson.
Oh, my God.
[ Cheers and applause ]
What are you gonna do?
Daly: Quite the response for Ryley Tate's performance.
We'll get some thoughts from our coaches,
and we'll start with Chance.
Wow. Yeah.
Ryley Tate, you're amazing, dude.
You surprise me every week.
I don't know how I forget that there's a 15-year-old
on the show that's doing stuff like this,
but I think that was the greatest show of control so far
out of all the performances today, like --
I think it would be a shame
if you didn't move to the next round.
I'm -- I'm in full support of you going to the next round.
Thank you so much.
Daly: Kelly.
I get asked every season, "Who are you afraid of on the other team?"
And I'm normally like, "I'm not afraid,"
but I am very, very, very, very, very scared of you.
[ Chuckles ] You are so good. Thank you.
The control that Chance was just talking about,
the sustaining of those big open notes.
Thank you so much. It was, like, the perfect amount of drama.
It was, like, nice. Whoo! That was good.
Thank you. Thank you.
Blake. It's unbelievable.
I mean, all the different parts of your voice,
they're just incredible, so now I have to change --
So now, I would say, you know...
[ Laughter ]
...you got to put Ryley through, like, come on, man.
I mean, don't mess around with this.
Okay.
Stop experimenting. Okay.
This is not the time to goof around.
You have got to put Ryley through.
Okay?
Daly: Thank you, Blake.
Okay, Niall.
15 years old.
Put that in your heads for a second.
I remember being on a show with all the lights and the cameras.
You know, like, it's not easy,
but Ryley's mature beyond his years
and puts in performances of someone
that's been doing it for 20,
and smashes it every single time.
I'm just so proud of you, dude. Thank you so much.
How about another big hand for Ryley Tate Wilson?
[ Cheers and applause ] Bye.
To think that Ryley is 15 years old is still mind-blowing to me.
That was -- That was the best one by a mile.
Every time there's pressure,
Ryley Tate steps up and just nails it.
There's your mom.
Ryley: That was amazing.
The words that the coaches were saying, it's crazy.
I am speechless.
And Niall was super excited, he was proud of me,
and I really hope he decides to put me through in the lives
'cause I-I won't disappoint him.
Are you Mom?
Oh, my God.
Are you just nervous as hell?
Oh, my God. [ Chuckles ]
I like that.
He's crazy good. Like, wow.
Niall: Team Niall stepped it up to a different league today,
and I'm gonna have to break some hearts here.
And that's what I don't like.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
It's time to find out who's gonna take
the last four spots in our semifinals.
We're starting out with Team Kelly.
Come on out!
I am stressed. Kelly's struggling.
What are you gonna do?
Uhhh....
I just need to get it over with.
I mean, what are you gonna do?
I'm gonna punch you. [ Laughter ]
Daly: Alright, Ali, Cait, D.Smooth,
Holly, and Neil stand with me now.
Oh, man.
Kelly, you have five incredibly talented artists.
Unfortunately, only two can move on.
Before we get to the decision,
what would you like to say to your whole team?
I'm very proud that I got all of you on my team.
Also, this is not the end.
I will support you in every way I can after this show,
no matter your dream.
[ Cheers and applause ]
And I will say, 'cause this is Shelton's last season,
I learned that from him.
And well done, Blake. It's an incredible thing.
You will be missed. Thank you.
Um...I'm sweating. [ Chuckles ]
Okay.
Kelly, who is the first artist moving on?
Um...
**
The first artist advancing to lives...
**
I'm gonna have to go with who moved me in the first place
and I had to advance, so I'm gonna go with D.Smooth.
D.Smooth!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Moves on to the semifinals!
Kelly: I honestly went with D.Smooth
because from the get go,
he's tugged at, like, special strings in my heart
and I love him, like, since the blinds.
You kill it every time.
He has such a cool gift, y'all.
Like, he just stands out to me.
We just haven't had a singer like him in a long time,
so I'm very excited.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: Alright, here we go. Four artists left.
Aaaaah!
One will join you in the Top 8... Mm-hmm.
...three will be leaving us tonight.
Kelly, who is the second artist moving on?
Oh, my God. You guys, this is really hard.
[ Chuckles ]
**
So the second artist advancing to lives...
is Holly.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Holly, you are moving on to the live semifinals for Team Kelly.
Kelly: You know, with Holly, she's very exciting for me
because she's got like this little twist.
She can do whistle note. She can do R&B kind of pop runs.
You did a great job, Holly.
There's just something super special about her,
and I don't think people realize how gifted she is yet.
Team Kelly!
Like, I'm so sorry!
I think that Holly and D.Smooth
are both gonna dominate not only just in the semifinals,
but I think they'll both make the finale.
Team Kelly is probably gonna win it all, y'all.
My team is so good.
Daly: Please welcome members of Team Niall!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Gina, Michael, Ross, Ryley Tate, and Tasha
stand with me now here, center stage.
Only two can represent Niall in our Top 8 live show.
Before we get to your big decision, Coach... Oh, God.
...what would you like to say to your team?
Can't tell you how fast my heart's beating right now.
I just want to thank you all for everything
and the fun that we've had as a team.
I've really enjoyed it, and I hope you have, too.
I'm so proud of you guys.
Niall, who is the first artist moving on?
Oh, God.
**
I feel like I could get it so wrong,
but I can't go wrong with any of you.
That's why it's so hard, you know?
The first artist advancing to the lives is, um...
...Ryley Tate.
[ Cheers and applause ] Ahhh! Oh, my God!
Daly: Ryley Tate moving on to the semifinals!
Niall: I had to move Ryley Tate through to the live shows.
He's never put a foot wrong on that stage since day one.
He's an incredible talent.
He is the future of our music industry.
Wrong way. [ Chuckles ]
Daly: Alright, Niall, this is it.
Four of your artists remain.
Unfortunately, there's only one spot left in our Top 8.
Who is the last artist moving on?
God.
I just can't reiterate how hard this is enough, um...
I just have to go with gut.
What I've seen through the weeks and what I've seen today...
The second artist advancing to the lives is...
**
...Gina.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: Gina also advancing into the Top 8 live semifinals!
I moved Gina forward to the live semifinals
because her growth has been so obvious.
Gina is such a superstar.
She smashed the playoffs.
She's ready for the live shows and beyond.
She's gonna have an amazing career.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Thank you, Niall. Love you.
[ Laughs ] I'm so excited.
I'm so sorry.
I now feel so confident about Team Niall.
I've got two incredible young singers
that are gonna capture the hearts of the nation.
And I believe that the winner of "The Voice" Season 23
is on my team.
Daly: Alright, our Top 8 are now locked.
Next Monday, don't miss it.
Tune in for our live semifinals
with realtime voting and same-night results.
Thank you, Coaches. In Los Angeles, I'm Carson Daly.
Thanks for watching. We'll see you next week.
Yeah! Ladies and gentlemen,
Blake Shelton's last taped show ever.
Yeah! Wow.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Yes!
[ Audience chanting "Blake!" ]
So from here, we're all going to the semifinals,
and finally, we won't have to make these decisions anymore.
But I think America's gonna have
just as much of a tough time as we did.
This is an incredible group of singers.
[ Chanting continues ]
[ Laughs ]
[ Chuckles ]
