So far, they have
found a stone slab

with strange symbols
carved into it...

man-made workings
that date to medieval times,

and a lead cross whose
origin may be connected

to the Knights Templar.

To date, six men have died

trying to solve the mystery.

And according to legend,
one more will have to die

before the treasure
can be found.

that they will make a historic
and valuable discovery.

Guess I'd keep
my fingers crossed

that we're gonna
encounter something.

However, as the fast-approaching

North Atlantic winter
will soon force them to

halt their operations
until next spring,

they are now in a
race against time to find

whatever may lie
below the Garden Shaft

in the Money Pit area,

and hopefully solve a
228-year-old treasure mystery.

- We're about 90 feet right now...

So we're gonna go
with that casing bit.

- We're gonna keep pumping away in there.

If we're lucky, in the
next four or five feet,

we're gonna punch
through something.

If you have a tunnel running

underneath there, I mean...

and that tunnel is
potentially old, I mean,

it could possibly be, you know,
an original depositor tunnel.

Yeah.

Although
high-trace evidence of gold was

detected in both water
and wood samples

that were taken while
the early 18th century shaft

was being reconstructed
over the past few months,

now that it has been
completed at a depth

of nearly 82 feet,
it did not contain

the riches that people have
been looking for since 1795.

- Ready to go.

However, it may
be sitting above a tunnel that does...

Which the team discovered
at a depth of some 95 feet

while drilling nearby in
the so-called Baby Blob.

It is in this zone where
they have obtained

the highest traces
of gold and silver yet

in their entire search for the
fabled Oak Island treasure.

Where we're set up is,
is a very high probability

- that we're gonna hit something. I mean...

All projections that we can
come up with, you know,

really show it needs to run
under the corner of that shaft.

That gives us a good inclination
that there's something there.

Now, representatives from

Dumas Contracting Limited

are conducting a
probe drilling operation

from the bottom of
the Garden Shaft,

in the hopes of confirming
that the tunnel is there,

and to reach whatever
it may contain.

We think
there's a tunnel under there

and this tunnel is especially

enigmatic because
it appears to have

dissolved metals
underneath the Garden Shaft.

The tunnel... we're hoping...
Leads to an offset chamber,

which is another
name for a vault.

That's one very exciting
and interesting thing.

to various locations in Italy.

Okay. So we have
our team back from Italy.

We're all eager
to hear, you know,

what all happened over there.

Well, it was a
wonderful experience

and we learned a lot regarding

our pursuit of answers
here on Oak Island.

Yeah, I think
it was, like, broadly

applicable to everything
that we're doing here.

- It's huge.
- Wow. It keeps going.

Over the last two weeks,

researcher Emiliano
Sacchetti led Rick and the team

to numerous sites
that were known

to have served as
strongholds for members

of the medieval order
of the Knights Templar.

Some also believe
that the Templars used

these strongholds to hide

sacred religious treasures
before smuggling them

to the New World between
the 12th and 14th centuries.

- Check this out.
- That's cool.

We have seen this symbol before

- on Oak Island.
- H+O Stone.

Yeah.

In addition to seeing

a number of Templar carvings

that have also been found

in the past on Oak Island...

- Wow.
- We have the left arm,

the right arm...

They toured a cave system

in the ancient town of Camerano

that, incredibly,
matched the design of

the 14th century lead
cross that was unearthed

at Smith's Cove back in 2017.

Come take a look at this.

However,

perhaps the most profound
discovery that they made

was at the Santa
Maria Nuova church

in the town of Viterbo.

- Yeah.
- Right there.

There, Alex
noticed symbols on a pillar

that he believed could
have a direct connection

to a mysterious, carved boulder

that was discovered on
Oak Island's northern shore

in the 1920s... the
so-called H+O Stone.

This was just
a theory I came up with

while we were there.

So we saw an inscription in
the church that we were in.

"HIC," H-I-C, which
is Latin for "here."

But I realized if you start with

H... I... C...

- here.
- That means here.

And then you do this...

you have the H+O Stone.

Yep.

So then you have
here is "Templar gold."

- Well, that's pretty cool.
- Exactly.

Could Alex Lagina be correct

that the carvings
found on the H+O Stone

may actually suggest
a sacred treasure

connected to the Knights
Templar is buried on Oak Island?

If so, could it possibly explain
the high-trace evidence of

silver and gold that has been
detected in the Money Pit area?

When I'm by myself and
think about this Templar theory,

everything in my body,

everything in my
mind resists it.

It just seems so outlandish,

and yet... we have
very ancient things here.

You can't say that theory
seems ridiculous or outlandish

and then ignore evidence
that it could actually be real.

To sum it up,

this is quite a puzzle.

It just got a little
bit more interesting

and a little more complicated.

And so we all need to put
our noses to the grindstone

and try to figure
out the importance of

what today's discussion
might mean for the future.

swamp for his first look

at the mysterious stone ramp

that was fully unearthed
two weeks ago.

A ramp which connects the vast,
800-year-old stone paved area

to a cobblestone pathway that
leads out of the brackish bog

and to somewhere on the island.

Is any of this
the original paved area

that we uncovered first?

You see the
plastic pipe of the hydro vac?

- Yeah.
- We're right on the edge there.

So, this is kind of
continuing the paved area?

It seems like they
connect, yeah.

Dr. Spooner, what do you think?

Well, there's no doubt.

This ramp, especially when
you get about halfway down it,

it has similar characteristics

with the cobble path,

in terms of stone
size, that kind of thing,

that's definitive, right?

And we did find

underneath those rocks,
organic matter, twigs...

So we've got material
to get some ages.

I think the ramp
looks quite spectacular.

The ramp obviously needs to be

thoroughly investigated
to try to understand

what does the ramp signify
in terms of the relationships

between the paved area
and the so-called stone path,

and where does
that stone path lead.

At least one of the
things we know, that it's...

some sort of man-made construct,

the "why" of which we
are yet to understand.

the mysterious stone ramp

in the Oak Island
swamp, Rick, Marty,

have just been
informed that the tunnel

believed to run below
the Garden Shaft

in the Money Pit area
may have just been found.

There's cause for
celebration up here,

so you may as well join.

Well, that's pretty cool.

We'll be up in a moment.

The Garden Shaft project is

the biggest project of the year.

- All the hard work has finally paid off.
- Yeah.

Well, we have evidence.

Strong evidence of high gold
values in the Garden Shaft.

- How solid is it?
- It's solid.

And yet, we
hadn't found treasure.

I think we were all
a bit deflated by that.

But hope springs eternal,
and so when Scott iterates that

there's something has
developed as part of the activities,

of course you're excited.

You're interested.

There is some sort of
structure underneath the shaft.

I figured you'd be down there
in that tunnel by now?

So we sent a probe rod down,

they probed down in the hole

and you can tell.

He said, "Ooh,
that's not a rock.

That sounds like wood."

And we have a sewer camera

and we're gonna try and
put a sewer camera down

and see if we can get eyes
on the wood, just to give

another way to verify
that it is the wood.

You have a
casing there, don't you?

Or just hole? Is it just hole?

Just hole. Just hole. No casing.

You could run casing
right now though.

Yeah, absolutely.

I think we should do that.

In order to
investigate the believed tunnel

with a high-definition camera,

the team from Dumas
will now insert PVC tubing

into the drill hole
in order to ensure

that it does not collapse.

It's gonna take us a little
bit of time to get set up anyways

to bore through
there, so, I mean,

that could be time
to put the casing in.

As the team
prepares to investigate

the possible tunnel

little piece of charcoal.

Jack Begley joins archaeologist

Laird Niven on Lot 5, located
on the western side of the island.

- In here.

They are searching for clues

that might help
determine the origin

of the circular
stone structure...

A structure that is not
only located near the area

where the team recently found
a 1,600-year-old Roman coin,

as well as a possible
lead barter token,

but also features a
13-foot diameter...

Ooh. Look at this, Laird.

Which matches the description
of the original Money Pit

when it was discovered in 1795.

This looks to be some pottery
and it's got that white stuff.

That's nice. That's a nice...

I think we call this a
fine, red earthenware.

Yeah. I thought
it looked unique.

What time period?

So this would have been going

out of style in the
1750s possibly.

Really?

Redware, which is a kind of

earthenware pottery
composed of fired clay,

was widely used throughout
Europe and North America

between the 17th
and 18th centuries.

But still, it's still pointing to
something early going on.

Something happening here

- in the middle 1700s.
- Yeah.

- Yeah.
- Yeah.

If this pottery
predates the discovery

of the Money Pit,
could it offer evidence

that this stone
feature does as well?

That's really neat.

Great.

Yeah, I thought it looked

much different from
the rest of the pottery

that I've seen so far.

This is interesting, Jack.

What is it?

This is way down

in this loose soil.

But it looks like it's exactly
the same as you found.

- Like from the same vessel?
- Yeah.

But why, why the change
in elevation for deposit?

Well, that would suggest
that this whole thing

was deposited at the same time.

I think it was built,

it was occupied,

then it was abandoned,

filled in with rocks,
but filled in with rocks

- and this stuff.
- Okay.

This is getting a
lot more interesting.

I thought we were
done for the season,

but I think we have to

expand that way.

This feature, we
don't know who did it.

We don't know when they did it.

And we don't know
why they did it.

The really exciting
thing for us is that

we're getting examples of

some early pottery on Lot 5,

which means that
there's a possibility

that this is one of the
earliest occupations

on the island.

I feel like something like
this, it'd make more sense

- over by the Money Pit.
- Yeah.

We need to get
an answer this year.

As the
investigation on Lot 5 continues...

Back in the Money Pit area...

Rick, Marty and other
members of the team

are attempting to
investigate the potential tunnel

located at a depth
of some 91 feet

below the Garden Shaft.

I think he's got it.

- Yeah. 10-4.

- A
- tunnel that is believed

to lead directly
toward the Baby Blob

or possible treasure zone.

Here we go.

It seems like it's
100 miles down there.

It doesn't look like wood.

It's just some clay.

We can see
some wood. That's good.

This is becoming
extremely frustrating

because we could
literally be inches,

literally inches

away from some
real definitive data

that could be very
helpful to our quest.

- We got to get through that.

Actually, I do like the idea
of grinding into the wood.

- Yeah. Grind that pipe.

Despite the sediment

and clay in the hole,
the fact that the team

has now found visual evidence

of a possible wooden structure

could mean that they may
very well have encountered

a man-made tunnel.

- Let's pull out.
- Okay.

Up with the camera.

Now, with less than two weeks

before the team will have to

halt search operations
due to the onset of winter,

they must do what they
can in order to find out

what it may contain.

There is a suspicion
that there's a tunnel

beneath the Garden Shaft.

Right now, we know there are

anomalously high gold values
on the wood outside of the shaft.

They need to drill into
the ceiling of the tunnel

and see whether or
not there's treasure

in close proximity
and hopefully find it.

I think we'll...
we'll urethane it

and then we'll
resort to drilling.

Okay, these guys are lined out.

We're gonna urethane it

to hold it in place.

If we can get
those threads to bite

a little bit, that should help.

And then we'll
be back to drilling.

To prepare for the next phase

of the drilling operation

the team will spend the
next two days coating the hole

with urethane, a
crystalline compound

that will allow the drill
bit to gain better traction

and hopefully penetrate
the possible wooden tunnel.

Okay, archaeologists...

What've you got?

Well...

So I thought

we were wrapping up.

I thought we were done.

Rick, Marty and Alex

arrive on Lot 5

where archaeologist Laird Niven

and Jack Begley
continue searching for

clues inside the mysterious,
circular stone formation.

The rocks came down
to a hard-packed level.

And I went through that and
now I'm in a very loose soil,

still with artifacts in it.

What the heck?

And you're not to
the bottom of it yet?

I'm not to the bottom of it.

The issue is we think
the edge is four feet out.

Sounds to me like the top
feature's not just an apron...

- It's the limits of quite a massive structure.
- Yeah.

What's driving me crazy is
there has to be an edge to it.

There just has to be.

So if the edge is
four feet that way

and if you extrapolate around,

- that's a big excavation.
- Yes, it is.

If you do it big enough,
if you dig a trench

six feet wide and
just fill it with rubble,

you do have a good foundation.

- Sure.
- A lot of stuff was built that way.

Yeah. Yeah, you just cap.

- That's the way castles were built.
- Exactly.

It's a fast way to make

- a very stable foundation.
- Yeah.

But it looks
a little too jumbled

for a foundation.

It could go deeper.

This could fit in
with Zena's map.

This could be the hatch.

It's close to the
approximate location

that we're looking
for the hatch.

When I found the
map, which is dated 1347,

I began to put pieces together.

In 2016,

the late author and
researcher Zena Halpern

presented the
team with a reported

14th century map of Oak
Island that she believed

to have been created by
members of the Knights Templar.

Numerous familiar locations
were labeled on the document

in French, including what
appeared to be the Money Pit,

the stone triangle
and the swamp.

However, for the
past several years,

the team has been
searching for a site

noted on the western
side of the island,

which was labeled as
"The Hole Under the Hatch,"

believing it may refer to
a shaft or tunnel entrance.

Could Jack be correct

that the circular stone
structure on Lot 5,

which matches the diameter
of the original Money Pit

may very well be The
Hole Under the Hatch?

I believe in Zena
Halpern's work.

I believe that the
map represents

some features on the island.

Is it possible that this
might be the hatch?

There are a lot of
possibilities on this island.

Who knows what we might find

down at the bottom of that
and where it might lead to?

So, orders, Laird?

You're in charge, what

We can take the

Hello, gentlemen.

Hey, guys.

Rick, Marty,

and other members of the team

have gathered in the war room

to meet via video conference

with Craig Tester,

along with Dr. Chris McFarlane,

a professor of geochemistry at
the University of New Brunswick.

Okay. So, see this
little item right here

in front of us, folks?

We've showed this
thing to so many people.

Dr. McFarlane

has just completed
a scientific analysis

on the lead barter token,

which was found
earlier this year on Lot 5

near the mysterious,
circular stone feature.

Dr. McFarlane, I know
you did ablation on this.

Yeah.

Laser ablation is the
process of removing microscopic samples

from the surface
of a lead artifact

using a high-powered laser.

These samples are then analyzed

to identify the exact isotope
values contained in the lead,

which can then help determine

both the time period
and geographic region

that the artifact
originated from.

This was a pretty easy object
to ablate because it was flat,

you know, which is
good, but I shouldn't say

it was easy to analyze because

it has a very thick,
altered crust on it.

It's been down there a while,
I would say, without a doubt.

When you say a
while, what is that?

- Can you ballpark?
- You know, not tens of years.

You know, hundreds of
years would be my guess.

You know? But the
biggest result is that

isotopically, it looks
very similar to...

the cross.

No way!

That's brilliant!

In the war room,

geochemist Dr. Chris McFarlane

has just shared

an astonishing report
with the Oak Island team.

I wasn't expecting that.

No, not me either.

According
to laser ablation testing,

the lead isotope values
contained in the barter token

that was found earlier
this year on Lot 5,

match the lead cross that was
found at Smith's Cove in 2017.

This means it was likely
made in the 14th century,

and originated in
Southern France.

I was expecting that.

Because of the context.

It was recovered on Lot 5,

not too far from shore,

and it was a good two feet down.

And when that came out,

I had no idea what it is

but it's got a really,
really old feel about it.

Yeah.

I mean, I can also
tell you that it does fit,

just like the cross with
sources in Europe and...

it certainly fits still
with a French source.

It's close in terms of
the isotopic composition.

Like, the actual value
is essentially identical.

To find a friend of
the cross... possibly...

Right there on Lot
5, that's brilliant.

It was found on Lot 5,

right next to that
odd stone feature

that we've been having the
archaeologists dig around.

And they don't have a
good explanation for it...

Just that it was
originally filled in,

in the early to mid-1700s.

And I'm glad you
brought that up, Jack,

'cause that might have
actually came out of that feature.

It could have been in
the fill taken out of it.

That is a top-pocket find.

Is it possible
that the Oak Island team

has now found two
critical pieces of evidence

suggesting that
someone of French origin

visited Oak Island
in the 14th century?

If so, could the
stone feature on Lot 5

also be related to them

and even help validate the map

that the late Zena
Halpern believed

was created by members
of the Knights Templar?

What's really intriguing too is

we've looked for
representations of the cross

and we've only seen one

in a very early cave
system in Osimo, Italy,

and one on the walls of
Domme prison in France,

where the Templars
were imprisoned.

Now that this scalloped
disc is a friend of the cross,

I mean, one could,
on some level,

- associate the two.
- Yeah.

The lead in the
disc apparently matches,

virtually identically with
the lead from the lead cross.

That is a head scratcher.

And another very
significant thing

that could tie the Templars here

is if we find the "why."

All those other W's
are gonna fall right into place.

Um, definitely, I mean,
I guess the big thing is

I'm glad it's
close to the cross.

has just made what could
be a significant discovery.

This could be off
like a ship's cabinet

or a door on a ship.

Yeah. Who knows?

A possible handle?

And potentially from
a large sailing vessel?

If so, could it be related

to the many other pieces
of ships and cargo barrels

that the team has
found in the swamp

over the past several years?

And perhaps offer more
evidence that the stone ramp

and the 800-year-old
paved area were used

to off-load something of
great value onto Oak Island?

One thing for
sure, it's an artifact, mate.

the edge is right here.

As we're scraping away dirt,

we can see an area
where you've got dark soil,

and right next to it
you've got the C horizon,

which is untouched by humans.

So it looks like it could
be the edges of this ramp.

So we're probably there but...

wonderful news, right?

Yeah, from my vantage point,

we found the edge of

paved area tied to a road.

four large man-made constructs

either associated with the swamp

or in the body of
the swamp proper.

They took a lot of
work, a lot of effort.

know their purpose

but human beings
made those structures.

A tunnel that may lead

directly toward the "Baby
Blob" or potential treasure zone.

Rodney felt that we may kind
of be on the edge of the tunnel.

How does he know that?

When he was probing down
there, he thought he felt wood

more on one side
than the other side,

Boy, we could drill through
a bunch of wood, then.

We, we don't know.

So right now
we're at roughly 91, 92 feet.

We think we're sitting
on some wood right now,

so we're gonna go down

- with the drill.
- Okay.

We've done all
this work in the Garden Shaft

to get to this point.

I want to see some
precious metals in this shaft.

there's a decent chance.

unknown tunnel, it's great

but an unknown tunnel
that is right in the area

where the scientists say

anomalous amounts
of precious metals are,

makes it very important.

to drill into a believed tunnel

at a depth of some 92 feet,

located just below the
bottom of the Garden Shaft.

- Pretty tough wood.

A tunnel that may head due west

into the so-called Baby Blob
where the team has detected

their highest trace evidence
of both silver and gold.

It's moving slowly.

given that's the only
sample, it's a data point.

for carbon dating.

Yes.

So, what do we want to do?

I'd opt for a whole new hole.

I don't think we
have time for a whole new hole.

If there is wood there

and you come down on
the wood with a six-inch,

- it would advance down.
- Yeah.

So I guess I'm with Scott,
given the time constraints.

Yeah.

So, pull the casing and
we'll drill the six-inch?

- Yeah. Yeah.
- Whatever happens, happens.

Unfortunately, we
have to be done.

Okay.

Because the team is not able to

penetrate the possible
tunnel with their current drill bit,

which measures just
four inches in diameter,

they will need to pause the
operation in order to obtain

a more powerful
six-inch replacement.

It looks like we are
running out of time for this season and

literally, when we're
inches away from something

that could be a big discovery.

We can't get through the
wood with a four-inch drill bit,

so we're gonna try to get
through it with a six-inch.

That's it. I think
you can call it a day.

And then tomorrow morning,
yes, please, get right on it

with your six-inch and
we'll be back out here.

have ever imagined.
