Love a Lifetime

Episode 4

Ma'am, don't act too soon.

Master Rong may have his own idea about what happened yesterday.

Let's wait and see.

There's no need to offend Master Rong.

All disciples of the Hall of Emptiness who were on patrol last night must receive heavy punishment.

Yes.

I checked the postmortem report last night,

and discovered the culprit's killing pattern.

If I was right, the culprit's next target would be Master Xiao.

In an emergency, I took some men with me to rescue him,

but it turned out...

Please forgive me, Master Rong.

I secretly investigated Master Xiao's travel route,

and disguised as him.

I just wanted to use this method

to pinpoint the real culprit as soon as possible.

Your purpose is as simple as that?

Mo Huan is one of the top martial artists in Jianghu.

More than a decade ago, we joined forces with

other martial arts masters in Jianghu

to attack the main base of the Ling Sect.

Many masters died at the time,

but we only managed to severely injure Mo Huan.

How come you went by yourself and

came back alive from Mo Huan's attack?

Young Master Lin, what's your background?

Father, how can you say such things to him?

Master Rong, it's not what it seems.

Lin Jing did that for the safety of our Dragon Howl City.

Aren't you afraid people in Jianghu

will gossip about you if they find out you said such things about Lin Jing?

Nonsense.

Master Rong, I'm afraid I have to stay

for a while in Dragon Howl City to recover from my injury.

Dad!

Who's that?

Who's that?

Do you have a death wish?

Stop hiding.

It seems that I shouldn't have worried about you.

Miss Rong Su is still as lively and short-tempered as usual.

It's none of your business.

I quit.

What a bummer! You'd only defend instead of attack.

Actually, Lin Jing didn't break into the Hall of Emptiness on purpose.

He just wanted to catch the culprit for Dragon Howl City,

and prove his innocence.

I saw you were quite unhappy today.

Just forget about it. You need to know

you'll get wrinkles if you always frown.

Whatever makes you unhappy, just vent it.

See? After having a fight with me, you've vented all your anger.

Your complexion looks much better than just now.

I'm afraid of no one in Dragon Howl City.

But today I've witnessed how annoying you can be.

Your nagging ability is second to none.

I'm not your match, and I admit defeat.

As long as I can make you smile.

There's no hurdle you can't cross.

By the way, sorry

for mentioning something I shouldn't have said that day.

I guess you already know that

Mo Huan is the culprit.

I had no intention of prying.

Never mind.

Actually, I was kidnapped by Mo Huan when I was young.

Then I was brought up and taught by her.

It wasn't until ten years ago

when Master Rong attacked the Ling Sect and severely injured Mo Huan

did he realize I was still alive.

He took me back to Dragon Howl City.

But as I grew up in the Ling Sect,

and was taught by Mo Huan,

over these years, Master Rong has never really trusted me.

Whether it's Ziyan or Bai Weizhi,

they are just like Master Rong,

and they only care about Rong Hua alone.

It's been really hard for you over these years.

I never expected that what I wanted to hear the most

actually came from a guy whom I barely know.

I think you're just too sensitive.

After all, blood is thicker than water.

There's no father in this world who doesn't love his daughter.

Maybe he just doesn't know how to express himself.

To be honest, I was an orphan

who was brought up by Mrs. Lin.

She treated me as her real son.

I often thought she loved Lin Jing more.

But when I grew up, I found that

the tough upbringing I received from Mrs. Lin

was good for my development.

So Don't make it complicated.

Greetings, Master Rong.

Dad.

Master Rong.

Forget about the etiquette.

Bai, did you ask us to gather here

because you have something important to tell us?

What's the matter?

Today, I'd like to...

Bring the tea.

I, Bai Weizhi, officially acknowledge Lin Jing as my master today.

Please come to my Hall of Seniority, and instruct my disciples.

Well...

Ma'am, are we just going to let that guy

stay in Dragon Howl City so easily?

Didn't you notice Master Rong had acquiesced?

They must have secretly colluded.

It seems that Rong Hua is determined to help Lin Jing

stay in Dragon Howl City.

Master Rong, why did you turn a blind eye to Lin Jing's behaviors?

What were you thinking about?

Have you ever thought why he could find the roster

so easily despite the fact that the city was heavily guarded?

I deliberately sent the guards away, so that he could sneak in

and discover everything.

Tackling Mo Huan

was sort of a challenge I set up for him.

If he could come back alive,

that meant he's not an ordinary guy.

Now the Ling Sect has made a comeback.

If he can stay in the city and work for us,

we'll have an extra pair of hands.

Master Rong, you certainly have great vision and know

how to play your cards right.

I don't want Lin Jing to be taken away in this way,

but I can't disobey Mrs. Lin's order.

I'm very grateful to Miss Rong Su.

There's no need to thank us.

We helped you take away Lin Jing this time,

because our master said she owed you.

Now that Lin Jing is taken away,

please leave Dragon Howl City as soon as possible.

I will.

Congratulations, Councilor Lu.

You swore in front of Mrs. Lin

you'd kill yourself if you couldn't bring back the young master.

I was really worried about you at that time.

Don't untie him,

otherwise, he'll definitely run away.

We must bring him back before the wedding.

Yes.

What's that sound?

Halt.

Unwrap him.

How come it's you?

How am I supposed to know?

You must have caught me when I was asleep.

Where am I?

Lu Yizhou is not stupid.

He'll soon find out that he's caught the wrong guy.

It was all your fault.

You dragged my master into this.

How come it's my fault?

Bai did it on his own terms. It had nothing to do with me.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to let you stay in Dragon Howl City.

I'm innocent.

I've actually helped Bai.

You always lie.

I don't believe you.

How can you say that?

But you do.

They're finally back.

Be gentle. It hurts.

You deserve it.

You're so childish.

You hang out with those juniors every day,

and even asked Lin Jing to be your master.

I did it with my own reasons.

I acknowledged Lin Jing as my master,

so that it would be justifiable for him to stay in Dragon Howl City

and protect Hua.

As the master of the Hall of Seniority, I'm always busy.

And I can't be around Hua all the time.

In this way, she'll get protected.

And I can rest assured.

I didn't expect you'd be so thoughtful.

Of course, I am.

You always underestimate me.

Actually, I've always been like this.

Be gentle.

It seems Lin Jing's plan has worked.

It's worth it to be beaten up.

Lin Jing doesn't deserve it.

What do you want to say?

Who he thinks he is?

Why would you take care of him and prepare medicine for him?

If Master Rong finds out,

I'm afraid his rage might damage his health.

Why are you suddenly cursing my dad?

Miss Rong Hua,

I'm just worried about you.

Sweet! It's so sweet!

Miss Rong Hua, what's so good about Lin Jing?

He's good in every aspect.

You must check his background thoroughly.

For example, what kind of family he's from.

Where do his family live? Are his parents still alive?

The most important thing is whether he likes you wholeheartedly.

Enough. What are you talking about?

I learned it from Ms. Ziyan.

Come on. Give me a hand.

She's just worried that you may be taken advantage of.

So she asked me to remind you.

Besides, Lu has mentioned that

Lin Jing is engaged to someone in his hometown.

Lu's after him, because he needs to take him back to get married.

Go take the medicine to him.

Now.

You're beyond help.

You've totally fallen for him.

Xiaoxiao.

Got it.

That's right.

His fiancée is waiting for him back home.

What are you going to do now?

I've told you everything.

Are you not worried at all?

Mrs. Lin is...

Over the years, my mother has been hiding her illness from me,

but I've long figured out roughly how bad it is.

I really didn't expect her illness would be so severe.

Now that you know, just go back with me as soon as possible.

Do you really want to stay here for that Rong Hua?

Even if you like her, you can't ignore your mother.

Am I that unfilial in your mind?

You can't escape this marriage anyway,

so there's no point of arguing with me.

To be honest, I came to Dragon Howl City for two things.

The first thing you may have known already,

is to find information about my father.

For so many years,

my mother has never told me anything about my father.

I don't even know my father's name or what he did when he was alive.

There's only once I overheard my mother say

my father had something to do with Dragon Howl City.

So I decided then that I must go to Dragon Howl City

to find out everything about my father.

The second thing is about my mother's illness.

If in this world there's a cure to my mother's illness,

it must be in Dragon Howl City.

Since ancient times, no man can resist the temptation of a beauty.

What a shame! Poor Miss Mei.

What a shame!

You bastard.

Take the medicine.

You bastard.

You can't rush things when honing your sword skills.

When you hold the sword,

you have to think of it as a part of your body.

Only in this way, can you use it with ease.

Your body hasn't fully recovered yet.

You shouldn't rush it.

Give my sword back.

What's the matter with you?

What's that attitude for?

Who rattled your cage?

Miss Mei.

It seems this Xiaoxiao has told you everything she overheard.

This marriage was arranged by my mother and the Mei family.

It was not my idea at all.

Moreover, I'm not going to be bound by the engagement.

I'll never marry a woman I don't like in my whole life.

Even if that Miss Mei insists on getting married,

she'll have to marry Lu Yizhou.

This is your private matter.

Why did you tell me about it? I'm just an outsider.

How can you be an outsider, my grand-disciple?

You're mean for saying that.

As the old saying goes,

a teacher for a day, a father for life.

I'm your grandmaster after all.

Rong Hua, I am your grandmaster.

Grandmaster, you think you can break off the engagement as you please?

If you do, you'll ruin the girl's life.

Rong Hua, you are wrong again.

If this Miss Mei marries someone who doesn't love her,

her life will be ruined.

Besides, for so many years in Jianghu,

loads of tragedies have been caused by unhappy marriages.

I will never go down that same path.

I've been looking for you everywhere.

I was so anxious. But you two are in the mood for chatting?

Master!

There's no time left. Come with me now.

Why is it so urgent?

Who asked you to kneel down?

I...

If you don't realize what you have done wrong, what's the point of punishment?

Ying, I just don't understand.

Since I'm engaged with Lin Jing,

why are you reluctant to give the Chihua Pill to the Lingxu Pavilion?

Xueman, our family has declined.

Except for the title of one of the four major families,

we have nothing left.

So the engagement with Lin Jing

is not only for your future happiness,

but also for the future of our Mei family.

So I won't give them

the Chihua Pill until the last moment.

It's our only bargaining chip.

Ying, I know where you're coming from.

But if he didn't rescue us in the first place,

not a single member of the Mei family would have survived,

let alone a future.

So I think even without this engagement,

we should offer the Chihua Pill, - to return the favor.

Enough!

If you insist on offering the Chihua Pill,

you have to wait for me to die.

Ying, please.

Shut up!

Just kneel down in front of the painting

of the plum blossoms and reflect on yourself.

Miss, are you OK?

Yes.

Where are you now?

Did you know I've been waiting for you?

What's your ulterior motive?

Relax. I have no bad intention.

Are these river lanterns beautiful?

Are you happy seeing this view?

You asked me out tonight just to see these river lanterns?

Why not?

There's no such thing as a free lunch.

Lin Jing and Rong Hua are up to no good.

You are Lin Jing's family.

You must have been sent by them to spy on me.

Unfortunately, no matter how hard you guys try,

the master of the Hall of Life will be me.

There aren't that many conspiracies in life.

Sometimes, just a smile is enough to last for thousands of years.

Thank you.

Actually, you don't have to thank me.

I'm leaving Dragon Howl City tomorrow.

I can't help but worry about you.

I'd been racking my brain. The lanterns are all I can do for you.

In my whole life,

this is the first time someone did something for me.

I'm not used to owing people.

Today I admit I owe you one.

Whenever you need help,

as long as you tell me, I will definitely return the favor.

If you insist, then don't wait for the future.

How about returning the favor today?

What do you want me to do for you?

I don't need you to do anything for me.

I just want you to let go of the past, and be happy in the future.

It's none of your business.

I didn't mean to offend you.

I just think there seems to be some misunderstanding between you and Rong Hua.

Everything will be fine if you have a heart-to-heart with her.

After all, you are sisters. Blood is thicker than water.

Why do you have to be hostile to her and always try to win?

Don't pretend you know me well.

You don't understand me at all.

No one will understand me in this world.

If you don't leave, don't blame me for being rude.

Sorry, I overestimated myself.

Those who get close to you must have ulterior motives.

Those who treat you well must have a hidden agenda.

No one in this world will treat you well wholeheartedly.

They are just using you, that's all.

- Kill them. - It's not like what you said. -Kill them.

- It's not true. - Kill them.

No. What you said is not true.

Those who get close to you must have ulterior motives.

Those who treat you well must have a hidden agenda.

No!

It's not true. No.

It's not true. It's not true.

It's not true.

No wonder everyone in Jianghu says

Dragon Howl City dominates life and death.

This is nothing.

Every year between autumn and winter,

when the White Snow withers and the Red Flame comes back to life,

this entire place will be blanketed with

Red Flame Lotuses as red as blood.

By then, thousands of poison-eating insects will be

gnawing at the Red Flame Lotuses, until they wither.

The poison-eating insects would kill each other for food.

Eventually, only one will survive.

This poisonous insect will consume all the venom of the other insects,

only to be killed by the Red Flame Lotuses.

Its venom will in turn nourish the Red Flame Lotuses,

and bring a withered Red Flame Lotus back to life.f

This Red Flame Lotus blooms like a dazzling flame.

This is the Chihua Pill.

It consumes the venom of thousands of insects

and it can break down thousands of poisons.

All beings in the world interact with one another.

The flowers bloom twice a year... the White Snow, and the Red Flame.

It's a poison that can kill people,

but it's also an antidote that can save lives.

That's right.

In Jianghu, our Chihua Pill is coveted by many people.

But without my permission,

not a single flower or leaf can be taken away.

Even my family have to follow the rules.

These flowers are crucial to our Dragon Howl City.

From now on, the safety of these flowers

and everything relating to these flowers

will be the responsibility of the Hall of Life.

It seems that the least trusted person in your heart

turns out to be the one who knows you best.

He always seems to take advantage of your weakness.

Lin Jing. Although you've taken Bai Weizhi as your disciple,

you're not a real member of our Dragon Howl City after all.

The reason why I was willing to appoint you as the master of the Hall of Life,

is that I don't want others to secretly

take charge of my Dragon Howl City.

You are right.

All beings interact with one another.

Perhaps only the Hall of Life can restrain the Hall of Emptiness.

Rest assured, Master Rong.

OK.

Lin Jing. What are the properties of the greater galangal?

The greater galangal, also known as the galangal fruit, is mild and warm,

and can be used to expel coldness, tonify the spleen and promote digestion.

This is particularly good for those who drink too much.

My master never cuts back on food or alcohol.

This is the right herb for him.

Rong Hua, the greater galangal is also good for your cold disease.

I didn't expect you'd learn so much during this time.

Compared with Ms. Ziyan's drug-making skills,

I've got a long way to go.

Now the Hall of Life is no match for the other three halls.

If the casualties outnumber the ones we can save,

the Hall of Life will find it hard to gain respect in Dragon Howl City.

Are you tired because you picked the herbs too hastily?

Your body is already weak,

and you haven't fully recovered from the poison of the White Snow Lotus.

So you must take care of yourself.

Even Ms. Ziyan said you need to look after yourself.

Later on, go back to your room and take a nap.

I'll boil the greater galangal for you.

Look at you. Since when did you become so nagging?

Please.

It's already high summer,

but the plum blossoms are still blooming here.

The fragrance is crisp and fresh, giving off a sense of coldness.

I'm really lucky to see such a scene.

Our Mei family have always appreciated beauty.

So our ancestors came up with a set of gardening techniques

which can keep the plum blossoms in bloom.

No wonder the Mei family tops the four most influential families in Jiangnan.

Your family's appreciation for elegance and grace is second to none.

Our family has declined.

Gardening is just a way to kill time.

Cangqi, please don't laugh at us.

Right now, apart from these plum blossoms,

there's nothing worth mentioning of the Mei family.

How can we compare with Lingxu Pavilion?

Young Master Mei, you're just being humble.

I'm sure the Mei family is blessed, and will rise again one day.

I came here today

to invite Miss Mei over to Lingxu Pavilion on our master's behalf.

Our master is usually a bit lonely.

If Miss Mei comes over, she can keep our master company.

What do you think, Young Master Mei?

My younger sister has been spoiled by me since childhood.

So I'm afraid I can't make the decision for her.

To be honest,

I think it's a bit inappropriate for Mrs. Lin to send you here alone.

After all, a starved camel is still bigger than a horse.

Even if our Mei family is only a shell of its former self,

we're still holding the title as one of the four major families in Jiangnan.

Lingxu Pavilion may have emerged as a rising star in Jianghu,

but in terms of social status,

I'm sure you understand which family is more influential.

Young Master Mei, I understand where you're coming from.

But compared with an empty title, our master cares more about

people's fear for Lingxu Pavilion in Jianghu.

I hope you understand.

My current priority is to maintain the status

of the Mei family in Jianghu.

He came to Dragon Howl City on his own terms.

And no one forced him to get close to Rong Su.

This incident will be a lesson for him.

Rong Su is a sophisticated person,

even Lu Yizhou treats her with sincerity, it just won't work.

Since you've already seen it through,

why are you still staying in Dragon Howl City?

Did you know? Dragon Howl City is not as simple as you think.

Perhaps what Lu Yizhou went through today

will be what you'll go through in the future.

If Lu Yizhou ends up being kill by Rong Su,

i'll risk my life to make Rong Su pay for it.

I've thought about your concerns already.

It's just that if I see Rong Su as an enemy,

I'll be the enemy of the entire Dragon Howl City.

By then, you and I can't see each other anymore.

You're already the master of the Hall of Life,

so it's impossible for you to stay out of it in the future.

We must become stronger in order to stay clear of new troubles.

Go home and have a rest.

Listen to me. Have a good rest.

No matter what,

with the medical skills I'm going to learn at the Hall of Life,

I'm determined to find a cure to my mother's chronic illness.

Rong Hua's cold disease can't wait, either.

I will heal you both.

Are you Cangqi?

Yes, I am.

I'd like to see the gifts from Mrs. Lin.

Here are the gifts from Mrs. Lin to express her good wishes.

Miss Mei, please take a look.

Xueman, be polite.

Alright.

I'll think of it as having fun at Lingxu Pavilion.

Xueman, you really have thought it through?

Ying, don't worry.

Since Mrs. Lin has given me so many gifts,

she definitely loves me a lot.

Oh yes, I remember she's susceptible to cold.

Lingxu Pavilion is in the deep of the mountain.

Even in summer, it's still a little cold there.

I should also send her a gift in return.

I have a good fox fur coat in my room. It's very light and warm.

My brother brought it back from the remote north.

Now, let it be the Mei family's good wishes for her.

I'll get the gift here.

Ying, please lead Cangqi

to the plum tree garden's entrance to wait for me.

Sorry for keeping you waiting, Cangqi.

On behalf of Mrs. Lin, I thank the Mei family.

Ying, don't worry. It's still early.

I'm going to Lingxu Pavilion with Cangqi now.

When I arrive, I will send you a letter to assure you my safety.

Be careful out there.

Goodbye, Young Master Mei. Please, Miss Mei.

Young Master, it's bad.

The Chihua Pill is gone.

Oh no! My brother must have found the Chihua Pill is missing.

I stole it once before without a plan,

but I just couldn't get through this Plum Tree Forest Formation my brother set.

I wrote to you because I hoped you could take the Chihua Pill to Lingxu Pavilion.

Thank you, Miss Mei.

When you told Mr. Mei to take me to the plum tree forest,

I expected you to deliberately arrange yourself

a chance to take the Chihua Pill.

I have done it once before without a plan,

so it should be easier today.

I gave you that fox fur coat generously,

so my brother didn't notice anything hidden inside.

But it's really challenging to get through this Plum Tree Forest Formation

before we get caught.

We must work it out in the shortest time

to leave this plum tree forest.

Here. Blindfold yourself.

Why?

You can easily get confused by the changes of this plum tree forest.

There is the Eight-Diagram Formation set with the plum trees, complemented by a special plum blossom fragrance,

to confuse your sense of direction.

How do you know how to solve my brother's formation?

When I passed this plum tree forest just now, I deliberately kept a distance from your brother

and undid the confusing effect of the plum blossom fragrance here with wine.

As long as I'm not confused by the trees, we can get out of the plum tree forest.

When I came, your brother led the way. So I don't know where your mansion's front gate is.

The front gate is in the northeast.

After the Mei family lost influence, to avoid vengeances,

my brother arranged this Plum Tree Forest Formation and abandoned the front gate.

But it's always guarded.

I'm afraid it's not easy to break through.

My young master often said that

if you can do things the unexpected way, you can break the routine and survive.

We have to be brave and try now.

With all due respect, please hold onto my sleeve.
