[Honey, Don't Run Away]

[Ye's Residence]

My lady, you have not been home for several days.

Once home, you went straight into the kitchen.

If anyone sees this, they would think that there is no maid working here.

I would not have come home had it not been to cook for Jin Yan,

and help him ease his stress.

It's a good thing master is away on a working trip.

If not, I wouldn't be able to help you keep it a secret.

What has happened?

I've been hearing noises from the Mu Residence lately.

Turns out they were building a fence.

He clearly doesn't want you to drop by.

Mu Jin Yan really is a prick.

There's nothing valuable that you can pick up from his lawn.

You're feeling yourself!

Looks like I still fail...

to win his heart.

My lady, what about this food?

It's okay. I will come back later.

Sir.

This one stray cat who used to climb the wall...

no longer shows up here.

I asked someone to build a fence on top of the wall.

I didn't want you to be bothered by noises from outside.

Mr. Feng, if you planned to do anything in the future...

I hope you will discuss with me beforehand.

I will.

I've read about cases on spontaneous human combustion in this one book.

Do you remember its origin?

Spontaneous human combustion is peculiar.

It was recorded in ancient books but it was not elaborated.

Does the case has something to do with this?

Two people are now dead from spontaneous combustion in Shukui Stronghold.

Their deaths are peculiar.

From what I've heard, the Ghost Bride is seeking revenge.

I would say that what people are saying is baseless.

There must be something off with this case.

Mr. Feng, please go through the medical books.

See if there is any medicine that can cause spontaneous combustion.

Please let me know as soon as you find anything.

I will.

[Episode 6]

Why are you standing outside?

I couldn't sleep.

I only see you every time I close my eyes.

I figured I would wait for you outside your house.

Who knows you might go out for a late night snack.

And here you are.

What's this?

You shouldn't take a peek.

This is a late night snack for Jin Yan.

How do you know I'm feeling hungry?

How does it taste? Any good?

It's good, it's really good.

Don't force yourself. You can just spit it out if you want to.

I've tried my best.

It's good!

You really are a good cook.

I'll take all of these.

If I were a good cook,

Jin Yan would like to eat it.

I don't understand what is so great about that cold hearted guy.

Why do you like him so much?

You know you'll fail but you keep on trying.

I don't know.

At first, it was love at first sight.

But after Mei Niang's case,

I started to look up to him and I adore him.

You can adore me too.

I have helped a lot in Mei Niang's case.

You don't understand what I'm feeling.

You fall in love so randomly...

and it only grows stronger.

Love is something that cannot be explained.

For instance, this walnut cookie that you ate.

You forced yourself to eat them even though they're tasteless.

I think, it's just the same when you love someone.

Don't you know,

to love someone is to love what they love.

If you love someone, everything about that person is pleasant.

Even these walnut cookies.

Sir, your love for me is fleeting.

It isn't!

I know you wouldn't believe my words.

But Xiao Tang, I will prove it to you.

That my love for you is eternal.

I'm serious.

Mr. Mu.

We have news about the female's body.

Have you identified her?

We found a burnt body in the suburb.

A pouch was found on the body with Leng Xing Er's name on it.

Perhaps he's the one you're looking for.

What's next, Mr. Mu?

You guys...

We've heard about it. Let's go.

Let's go.

Has it been identified?

It's an incomplete body.

The body is totally burnt, making it hard to identify.

Based on her clothes and her jewellery,

perhaps this is Leng Xing Er who went missing.

Her ashes do not have a fragrant smell.

Her cause of death is different to that of Jin San Shui and his son.

She did not die from spontaneous combustion.

She was burnt.

Found anything?

The deceased is not Leng Xing Er.

How so?

This body is of a male victim.

The burning of the body causes the body to shrink.

Thus the body looks like a female.

Female clothes and jewellery were added as evidence.

I've studied Essential Prescriptions of Golden Cabinet.

Looking at the skeleton, the deceased was a male.

You are saying...

someone tried to disguise this body as Leng Xing Er to mislead us?

So, where is her real body?

Just go and let me handle this.

-Let's go! -Jin Yan!

-Jin Yan! -We'll make a run for the cart.

The guards will protect him.

Greengrocer Liu?

Ling Zi Ran, hold on.

I'll pull you up now.

Let go of me!

Or you will die.

Just let me go!

I don't want to!

I will save you.

You don't even love me. Why are you trying to save me?

I can't just sit here and do nothing!

Stupid girl.

I will not let you die because of me.

I'll bite you to death once you're safe up here.

Let go of me!

Ye Xiao Tang, let me go!

Let go of me!

Jin Yan.

Another one is dead.

She didn't mean to hurt us.

If Zi Ran had not jumped onto the cart, she would have been safe now.

What is the murderer really trying to do?

Sir, a coffin was found in south of the city.

There's a fragrant smell in this coffin.

It's similar to the smell on Jin San Shui's body.

Look at this.

The scratch marks are made from the inside.

Looks like she was laid down into the coffin alive.

Don't you think this coffin is strange?

What's strange about it?

Isn't this just like a regular one?

Don't you think it's high?

It really is a bit high.

It's higher than normal coffins.

Open the base of this coffin up!

Sir, this body doesn't weight that much.

She's really light.

This is Leng Xing Er.

Mr. Mu.

I think all of her internal organs are missing.

They are missing?

What do you mean?

The body was dissected?

No.

There is no dissection mark on the body.

It's impossible for organs to be taken out from within.

All of the organs are missing?

You can't be saying that organs would simply fly out of the body.

There is only one explanation.

The disciples at Shukui Stronghold...

are hiding the true cause of Leng Xing Er's death.

The case of Jin San Shui and his son's death...

must be related to Leng Xing Er.

Mu Jin Yan.

-Jin Yan! -Mu Jin Yan.

-Jin Yan, what's wrong? -Mu Jin Yan.

Mu Jin Yan!

Jin Yan!

Jin Yan!

It's odd.

Mu Jin Yan's symptoms are similar to that of Shukui Stronghold's disciples.

Jin Yan.

I will save your life.

I didn't think...

the Ghost Bride would seek her revenge this quick.

It's really sad.

You jerk, if you try to say something ridiculous again,

I'll bash your head in!

I've said what must be said.

If you proceed with the investigation,

the Ghost Bride will not let you go.

Mr. Feng, thank god you're finally here.

Please take a look at Jin Yan now.

Sir.

Sir!

Jin Yan, you're finally awake.

This was all my fault.

I will stop cooking for you.

You fell ill for a few times...

after you ate the dishes I prepared.

It's nothing.

It's not your fault that I fell sick.

Frankly speaking your dishes...

were quite good.

But don't cook for anyone else again.

Sir.

You feel better now?

I passed out for how many days?

Two days and two nights.

Xiao Tang was always by your side.

She didn't want to leave.

You were having the same illness as the disciples.

This was not because of a ghost...

but because of poisonous worm.

There are thousands of poisonous worms.

I'm still unsure of my own deduction.

We need human blood to lure it to the red spots.

Take my blood.

Xiao Tang!

Xiao Tang!

This is it.

This is Fire Cicada.

They like warm and moist place and have a nice smell.

They can reproduce rapidly.

They like to live in colony.

The fate of Fire Cicadas and the Cicada Queen are intertwined.

If they are too far from each other,

it will feel anxious.

It will crawl in the body in search of its queen.

Fire Cicada?

I've read about it in medical books.

That's right.

Originally it was used to treat cold related diseases.

If it infects a healthy man,

it will absorb his energy.

It will burn him up and make the heat unbearable.

If it is not destroyed,

eventually it will cause spontaneous combustion.

Fire Cicada comes from the border of Xirong.

People from the mainland rarely know about this.

It appears abruptly...

and has taken the life of some of the disciples at Shukui Stronghold.

I smell something fishy.

It turns out the disciples felt the burn and couldn't stand the heat,

and it's all because of this Fire Cicada.

In fact, they died from this spontaneous combustion.

They can't step out of Shukui Stronghold...

because the Cicada Queen is hiding inside Shukui Stronghold.

Who is persecuting the disciples of Shukui Stronghold?

Leng Xing Er.

Leng Xing Er smells fragrant...

from Fire Cicadas.

I was poisoned by touching incense ash in the incense holder.

Even the ash reeks of the same fragrance.

Perhaps the Cicada Queen is hiding in there.

It doesn't matter if it's Fire Cicada or Water Cicada,

I just want Jin Yan to heal quickly.

Is there any way to treat this?

After the Cicada Queen is found,

you must douse it with mercury.

And the disciples will be able to step out of the stronghold.

Then they must consume snow lotus for a month for their health to be better.

They will definitely heal.

How do we find the Cicada Queen?

It was written in the book of Xirong that the queen has one feature.

It will produce a sound at night...

to search for Fire Cicadas.

I'll ask them to destroy the cicadas.

Hold on.

The death of Leng Xing Er, Greengrocer Liu...

and Jin San Shui and his son...

were not related to the disciples.

If we want to capture the culprit behind this superstition,

we need to attack their weakness.

Dear Ghost Bride, please bless me.

Dear Ghost Bride, please bless me.

It's the Ghost Bride.

The Ghost Bride has come to take us away.

Ghost Bride.

On your knees.

Do you know what you have done wrong?

Dear Ghost Bride,

Leng Xing Er's body has been buried.

It was done according to ancient ceremony.

She will definitely be able to replace you...

and to carry her duty to guide dead souls to the afterlife.

We do not know where else our fault lies.

Please tell us and please let us go.

You dare complain?

You killed innocent people and you annoyed me.

Leng Xing Er made a complaint in hell.

She wants to seek revenge even if it will affect her.

I feel sorry for her.

I'm here...

to punish you for her!

It has nothing to do with us.

It's...

It was all Jin San Shui's family fault.

It's true.

We only did what we were asked to do.

He said Leng Xing Er destroyed the Ghost Bride's statue.

Hence Leng Xing Er was buried alive.

It's true.

This was all done by Jin San Shui's family.

Tell me exactly what happened.

I will not forgive you if you lie to me.

We don't dare to lie.

Madam.

Leng Xing Er was an orphan.

Jin San Mu fell in love with her beauty.

He used many tricks to convert Leng Xing Er.

Then he asked her hand in marriage.

But she turned him down.

And she tried to run away for a few times.

When we got her back,

she tried to kill herself.

She knocked her head on the Ghost Bride statue.

You failed to force her into marriage.

So, you buried her alive...

for breaking a statue?

How about Feng Er?

Speak up now.

Greengrocer Liu.

She said Leng Xing Er's body was destroyed.

And we will be punished.

She asked us to poison Ninth Prince...

and to sacrifice Feng Er to Ghost Bride.

That's right. Greengrocer Liu...

burnt the body of a disciple who died from an illness...

to disguise him as Leng Xing Er.

She wanted to distract the investigation.

You jerk!

Jin San Shui and his son used my name...

to do evil and to persecute innocent people.

You turn a blind eye and help to hide this secret.

You are all repeat offenders.

You are all guilty!

We know that we have done wrong.

Please let us go.

Please let us go.

-We know we are at fault. -All right.

I'll give you one chance to turn yourself in.

Be careful!

This is...

Why are you here?

You dare to disguise as Ghost Bride to scam us.

Aren't you afraid that the Ghost Bride will hurt you?

That's right.

There is no higher power therefore there is no retribution.

If it's retribution you're talking about,

I believe in karma more.

Nonsense!

Jin San Shui and his son died from spontaneous combustion.

We are having strange illness.

What else if it's not because of ghost?

Stupid!

You are infected with cicadas.

Cicadas?

-Cicadas? -Fire Cicadas are now in your bodies.

It feels like you're burning.

It lives by absorbing your energy.

Once all of your energy is depleted,

you will die from spontaneous combustion, just like Jin San Shui and his son.

This... How did we get poisoned?

Leng Xing Er consumed Fire Cicadas...

to treat a cold related disease.

It can help to balance the cold in the body and to preserve it.

On the day of the funeral, the cicadas completed their job...

and came out from seven cavities on Leng Xing Er's face.

It's attracted to heat.

Incense holders are the best hiding place.

And that's the reason why it smells fragrant.

We did burn some incense.

-Does... -All of you touched the incense holder.

It jumped on to you from incense holder.

Red spots on your body are the marks of them entering your body.

Having said that,

why can't any one of us step out of this stronghold?

We even heard the Ghost Bride's cart passing by every night.

What has he done?

What has he done?

Ghost Bride!

You...

What have you done?

The Ghost Bride will not let you go!

-Please let us go, Ghost Bride. -We have sinned.

-We have sinned. -Please forgive us, Ghost Bride.

My intention was to let you see...

the Ghost Bride.

What is that noise?

What's this?

This is your Ghost Bride.

That can't be it.

This is not true.

Why is that so?

It can't be.

Please look closely.

This is mercury.

This...

It's dead.

-Look at it. -What is happening?

The noise you heard was from this creature.

This is the characteristic of Fire Cicada.

They live in a group...

and they listen to the queen.

On the day of the funeral, the queen crawled out of the incense holder...

and then she hid in the Ghost Bride statue.

Fire Cicadas hiding in your body...

listened to their queen's call every day.

That's why you're trapped here.

So the Ghost Bride doesn't exist?

No.

Mr. Mu!

We know we have sinned.

Please save us, Mr. Mu.

Please help us.
