To be very honest with you.
I don't really care what people think about me.
As long as they think about me.
(bell dings)
I'm trying to be modest.
I can't put my leg up there anymore.
Sorry. You're going to have,
if you see panties,
it's gonna to have to be that way.
They're stone anyway.
(interviewer laughing)
(upbeat techno music)
Hello. My name is Orion Story.
I'm 25 and I'm from Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Ooh.
Well,
my mom's.
(comedy sound effect)
I'm spinning around.
Ahhh!
Trouble in paradise.
Okay. What was the question?
(TV bleeping)
My mom's maiden name was Story.
You know, my drag is a tribute to my mom.
So, I knew I wanted to incorporate Story in my name.
And then I, you know, I smoke a lot of weed.
(bubbles blowing)
So, I was trying to think of something to go with it,
and I just thought of Orion,
and it all just kind of came together.
I'm glad to open a lot of doors for people
by being the first Michigan girl.
I don't think there's a pressure
to represent Michigan at all,
because I think first and foremost,
I'm representing myself.
I'm just, you know, I'm not a pageant girl.
I did one pageant one and I will never do another one.
It's a lot of work. It is.
And you know, I'm really lazy.
Drag gives me the opportunity
to do whatever I want, you know.
If I want to make music, I can.
If I wanna, you know, make some earrings,
I can do that.
My style, I like to do a lot of like, you know,
vintage sixties, kind of like mod,
a lot of Barbarella kind of vibes.
I have always been just really obsessed
with the sixties and the seventies.
And I don't know why.
When I started out doing drag,
it was really just kind of,
I think a way for me to feel close to my mom, you know,
because she always pushed me to do it.
She wanted me to do it.
We'd always watch the show together.
And like, I started doing it
and realized I like it and I'm good at it, so.
I always try to be kind and nice.
So, I always want people's first impression of me
to be a positive one.
I know there's a lot of nasty bitches out there so,
I do not want to entertain that energy.
The strangest thing about me?
I don't know.
I do have every single nail that has fallen off of my body.
I still have. And it's a black bag.
I mean, I won't say that's the weirdest,
but I have a whole like Excel spreadsheet list.
I can just fax it to you later.
(fax machine whirring)
A queen superpower. Wow.
You know what?
I wish that I could like, shoot lasers out of my eyes
so I could cook stuff.
(laser zapping)
(exploding bang)
(upbeat techno music)
(indistinct) Orion. ABC marker.
I don't entertain conflict. I end conflict.
I ain't got time for that.
I ain't got time for that.
I got better things to worry about.
I am very competitive,
but my competitiveness is not rooted in
trying to beat everyone else.
It's trying to push myself.
I don't give a (beep) what everyone else is doing,
but I wanna, you know,
always make sure that I'm putting my best foot forward.
Doing the best job that I can.
Oh, absolutely.
I am going to win.
(swishing effect)
Orion Story, is the winner of
season 14,
season 15,
season 16,
not 17, but season 18.
17 was a rough year for me.
I'm nervous that they're going to find out
that I smuggled my cat with me.
(cat meowing)
So far, they haven't.
For me, being on season 14 is really validating
because you know, I've watched the show since the beginning.
And you know, I think watching the show with my Mom
and having her tell me,
I could see you on there.
I wanna see you on there.
And you know, to be here, it's so surreal.
And, I get to prove so many people back home wrong,
who talked (beep) about me.
And I'm like, sorry,
what season were you on?
(whip cracking)
That's right.
I'm America's next drag superstar
because who else has got rhinestones on their panties?
Come on.
It's the attention to detail, you know,
it sets me apart from everyone else.
Plus everyone else sucks, so.
Don't tell them, I said that.
(upbeat techno music continues)
