I'm June jambalaya, I'm 29 years old,

originally from Jacksonville, Florida,

but I live in Los Angeles.

I was in a dance class and I was doing jazz funk.

And my teacher said I was very feminine.

And he was like, when's your birthday?

I was like, June, I'm a Gemini.

And then he was like, what's the last thing you ate?

I said, I just had jumped light in the cafe.

He's like June jambalaya, that's your drag name?

I started drag in Los Angeles,

2018 to be representing Los Angeles in such a short amount

of time. When I think about all the incredible Queens,

Gigi Goode, detox, Simone,

like all of these Queens who are like big names in Los

Angeles, I'm kind of humbled by it.

Joan jambalaya is the real housewife of drag.

Yeah. That's I would say that's me.

I mix high and low. I'm always inspired by high fashion,

but then urban street style.

I like to wear nice clothes and do ratchet things.

I've always loved fashion.

I know worked as a visual manager outside of drag and this

competition gave me the reasons to create those looks for

June that I have been dying to do.

I went to school for performing arts and this,

it was always so many rules and boxes you had to fit in to

be cast it. And drag is an art form.

That's so universal.

I get to create my own art and narrative for this character.

There's no right or wrong.

No one can tell me how to do my drive except real.

I think my first impression I always get she's pretty.

And I think people from first impressions that I may rest on

pretty until they see me perform. And until they, you know,

do their research and learn about my work ethic,

the biggest misconception I don't take criticism. Well,

I think people naturally think because I'm a little

defensive so that I don't, I do like I I'm taking it.

I hear him. I hear you.

But I have something to say,

Growing up, going to performing arts schools,

competing in dance competitions.

It's just a innate thing about me.

I want to be my best and my best is the best.

So I need to be the best. And sometimes that does take over,

you know, the inner operatory is very real,

so I'm very competitive.

If she comes for me and it's valid,

I'll listen to it and then let her know why she's wrong.

But if you're just coming to make a moment,

there's 13 other girls to do that with,

I don't have time to, you know, give you your 15.

I honestly feel like have all the makings and ingredients to

be the queen to be here means that I'm doing something

right. I, you know, I've tried to work as a stylist.

I tried to, you know, go and do hair and, you know,

dance and drag has allowed me to corporate all of those

things. I love, it just feels right.

So to be here,

it's like I'm onto something I'm onto my purpose and

America's next drag superstar because I have all the

ingredients to be.

So I never rest on what anyone else is doing.

I'm always going to push myself to do what I think hasn't

been done or what I think is, you know,

elevation for me and this, you know,

art form that people have so graciously welcomed me in,

like, I think people can relate to, you know,

having insecurities about your body and you know,

your talent and, but still going for it.

And I think that's the makings of a superstar.
