The strangest thing about me,
people are really shocked to find out that I'm sweaty
and I stink.
I stink, I smell really bad.
I don't ever wash my tights
but I wanna invigorate all the five senses.
I want everyone to see me, hear me, smell me, feel me.
Only certain people's taste though, yeah.
(upbeat music)
Hey everyone. I'm Daya Betty.
I am 25 years old from Springfield Missouri.
So Daya Betty actually comes from the fact that
I am a diabetic.
A lot of people don't think that I am
just by first meeting me but I am a type one diabetic.
I found out I was a diabetic when I was in high school.
I have never changed my Drag name.
Daya Betty was like my one and only
it will forever be Daya Betty.
Although I do sometimes just go by Betty,
just 'cause it's like sexy and then sometimes diarrhea
if I'm feeling gross.
(man laughing)
Springfield Missouri has actually a lot of Drag.
It's gotten really big over the past couple of years.
Ever since my sister Crystal Methyd has been on the show.
So Crystal Methyd is my Drag sister.
A lot of people think she's my Drag mother,
which is not the case.
She doesn't wanna be labeled as an elder.
So she doesn't like mother.
She does all the things a Drag mother would
but without the label.
I like to play with both the fun playful sides of life
and then also the dark scary parts of life.
Sometimes I'm a little bit more colorful,
a little bit more in your face
and then sometimes a little bit more laid back.
I base a lot of my Drag,
a lot of my performances on how I feel.
I'm kind of like a human mood ring, I guess.
I genuinely try to get along with everyone.
Sometimes I do let out my negative emotions too.
And that's okay, I'm human.
That's the point, right?
That's the point of Drag.
When people first meet Daya Betty,
they're always enthralled by the fact that
in heels I can be anywhere between like seven
and eight foot, depending on the heel.
I love a tall shoe.
Daya loves a good eight to 11 inch heel.
So people are always looking up to me physically
and well I don't know how to say it
but you know what I'm saying.
As a role model I guess, I don't know.
Maybe not.
I think what Daya Betty brings to the show is
I don't try to always be perfect.
Perfection is just not something I'm looking for.
I like the nitty gritty when it comes to Drag.
I wanna see the blood,
the sweat and the tears that go behind everything.
I want the grungy parts.
I want the dirty parts.
(electric music)
Daya Betty, ABC marker.
I am 100% the winner of season 14,
no question point blank period.
Period with a T at the end.
I'm not gonna sit here and be like,
it means the world because it means so much more than that.
It's this cathartic thing for me
to be here, to be with these other competitors,
to be in front of RuPaul, the legend herself.
It just proves to me that I know what I'm doing
even though sometimes I have to fake it until I make it.
And it's worked for me this far.
So I must be doing something right.
I'm very competitive.
I love competition.
Here's the thing, if a girl comes for me during the season,
I'm not afraid to talk about it.
Don't be a bitch and talk behind my back
'cause I could be a bitch too.
I am a little nervous about comedy challenges
or if we were to have like a roaster standup act,
that's just not my strong suit.
It takes me a while to
think of jokes that are funny (laughs).
It makes me really nervous
just thinking I have to pull jokes out of my ass
in front of RuPaul.
I came to win.
I came for more than just the money, Okay?
The name, the show, all of Ru's clothes.
I am America's next Drag superstar
because I am not afraid of humiliation.
I'm not afraid to tear myself down,
to look at all the parts of me that aren't great
and figure out how to make myself a better,
not only performer but a better person
and a better member of my queer community.
(upbeat music)
(joyful music)
