[The Ingenious One]

[Episode 15: Heart Devouring Poison]

Greetings, Master. I'm disciple Mo Bufan.

Mo Bufan.

Do you think I can't see you?

Master, your are extremely skillful.

I admire you immensely.

Do you know

why I summoned you here alone?

It's because of Yun Xiang?

He threatened

to make the No.1 gambling house in Jiangnan.

On this ridiculous matter,

do you have any knowledge of the inside information?

It began with Qi Tianfeng admitting that

Tang Xiao assassinated Wen Cong.

Since Yun Xiang has taken over

the post of Nandu General Governor,

of course he'd want to put an end to the bygones.

This is also for the sake of irritating Tang Xiao

so that he would bite the hook himself.

As long as he defeats Tang Xiao,

he could take the throne in gambling

and control the most profitable business in the world.

He's also doing it

for the long-term benefit of our sect.

I was worried that the sect was not big enough for the two of you.

I didn't expect that you two were birds of a feather.

Don't worry, Master.

No cliques can be formed in one sect.

I've always kept that in mind.

I know what I'm doing with Yun Xiang.

Mo Bufan.

I will leave Nandu soon.

From now on, you must report

every move of Yun Xiang to me.

I'll definitely keep you updated on everything I know.

[Liansheng House]

It's a little dirty over there.

Wipe that.

[Liansheng House]

Okay.

Come on. This way.

Be careful.

Give it to me.

Hands are needed here.

Pass it to me please.

Add three more vents in the kitchen.

Use hollow bricks.

Remember,

don't let any cooking smell in the front hall.

No problem.

But the schedule is a bit tight.

Master, do you think we can...

No.

The deadline and salary have been settled.

Don't think of raising the price now.

I know you all work hard.

If you finish it on time and pass the test,

we'll talk about the reward then.

Thanks a lot.

Master.

Mr. Su.

Such an overhaul.

It must be Yun's idea.

Mr. Yun wants to make Liansheng House

the No.1 gambling house in Jiangnan.

Since you are so busy,

you don't have time to chat with me, do you?

The color is dyed so well.

I'll make the embroidery for you

when I have time.

No hurry.

Wait for me.

Jin.

Get off my back. Don't follow me.

Listen to me, Jin.

It's not that I don't want you to go.

But maybe we can think of

a better way.

Drop it. I know you too well.

Who knows what you're up to,

saying things like this.

You're probably only afraid that

you'll have no one to boss around without me here.

It's so hard to make real connections with you.

Yun. Jin.

What are you fighting over?

Mr. Liu of Zhaixing House

bought a kid.

And he wouldn't let us redeem him.

Now he's sent the kid to the ancestral house in Yin County.

He wants to take his sword there

and get the kid back by force.

Stop turning things upside down.

I said I could reason with them first.

If it doesn't work, then we take him by force.

So by force it is.

Most musicians in Nandu are from Zhaixing House.

If you offend them,

there will be no music

in our teahouse.

Shall we ask the waiters to entertain customers?

After all, you're all about business.

I just want to think of

a perfect solution.

But you got angry.

I...

Jin.

Here.

Take this.

Give it to the Liu family's steward.

I'm sure they'll do the Su family this favor.

This is all it takes?

Of course,

Jin, don't forget the proper manner.

Don't miss a penny of the ransom.

After all, the Liu family is a senior member of the Chamber of Commerce.

No problem. I'll buy you a drink when I'm back.

Yun, you've always been good at dealing with him.

Why do you seem a bit sweaty today?

I kept a promise. I still need to get used to it.

Do you have time, Yun?

Let's go somewhere quiet and have a chat.

Mr. Su, you said you wanted to chat.

But we both know that

the topic we'll be talking about

is going to be a bit awkward.

But if you have anything to say,

just go ahead.

I’ve figured out

the ins and outs of the raw silk battle.

If I say I had no feelings about it,

that would be a lie.

After all, I've always trusted you, Yun.

But now,

I've figured out one thing.

If you're an enemy and

never treated me as your friend,

the Su family must have been destroyed.

Actually, my sister asked me to get close to you

and be sincere.

If we can become good friends,

I'm sure you can keep the Su family safe.

You are really sincere, I would say.

I know with my wisdom and experience,

if I have ulterior motives,

I can't hide it from you.

It's better to be frank.

This way, maybe we can get rid of our grudges.

It's not a bad idea to be sincere.

Can you take me as your disciple?

All right.

Please take me as your disciple, Yun.

My hands are tied due to sect rules.

It's impossible.

However,

you and I are both owners of Liansheng House.

We must act in consert in the future.

I can see that you are talented

and smart.

We don't have to be restricted to the status of master and disciple.

Yes.

In that case,

do you know why I wanted to

renovate Liansheng House at such a high price?

Actually, I don't understand.

Now that the Cao Sect has been destroyed,

the next one is Tang Xiao.

In seven days,

I'd like to be the head of Nandu's gambling industry.

Meanwhile, I hope that Tang Xiao

will never have a place to stand in the city of Nandu.

[Inner Chamber, Tang's Residence]

How many days has she been here?

My lord,

counting in the day when we carried her off from the wedding,

it's the fifth day today.

You tried to run away three times in five days.

Unblessed.

Such a good life in front of her, but she doesn't want it.

Wash her body

and get her changed into the clothes she wore here.

Yes.

Come on. Take her away.

Is this the one who ran away and got caught three times in three days

and hung herself after she got back?

My lord.

You simply like other men's women.

Well, I really do.

My lord.

The spy reported that

Yun Xiang's next target is you.

He wants to be the head of gambling in Nandu.

How about I get rid of Yun Xiang?

I'm warning you. Don't try him.

Follow the plan and decrease his power first.

Also,

is Qi Tianfeng dead yet?

All his men are dead.

Who did that? We had the same plan.

But he himself is nowhere to be found.

Why does he have so many enemies?

Today's reeves shad is very fresh.

Here, have some more.

Sister.

I think Tang Xiao

might become the next Qi Tianfeng.

Tang Xiao has really been insolent and conceited these years.

He's been ignoring the rules of the Chamber of Commerce.

If someone could break his spirit,

it's a good thing for the Nandu Chamber of Commerce as well.

You don't have to say that, Sister.

Right now, Tang Xiao

is not our only trouble.

Yun Xiang is still the one who worries me the most.

The Tang family gives you six taels per month.

How about I give you eight taels?

Eight taels is a lot,

But I can't do Liansheng House's work.

Tell me the truth.

Why is that?

Tang Xiao told us before that

if anyone from the Tangs' Gambling House dares to work for Liansheng House,

he/she will be dead before their salary can be spent.

In my early years in Liansheng House,

you've taken good care of me, Miss Ke.

I'm really sorry.

I understand. I won't make things difficult for you.

Please leave.

Miss Ke, take care.

Miss.

If you ask me, they are all traitors.

Why do you want to give them a raise instead?

There are only few gambling houses in Nandu

that are not under Tang Xiao's name.

They have no other choices.

How are things going with you?

The waiters and pages are easy to find.

They are almost fully recruited.

Go on. Don't slack off.

Come help me when you're done.

Got it.

Little boy, come here.

Be careful, little boy.

Uncle, help us please.

My sister is almost beaten to death.

Where is she? Take me there.

Over there.

Hurry up.

She's right inside.

Stop!

What a coincidence.

We meet again.

You two really put in a lot of effort into this despicable scheme

to get me here.

I've been wanting to practice my swordsmanship with you.

No time is better than today.

Great.

You are a master.

But only a half.

You want to die?

Let me.

Despicable you. Play the dirty tricks.

Still, you can't beat your senior Jin.

Miss.

Master saw how hard you've been working,

so he asked me to bring you a pot of jasmine tea.

Thank you. Please thank Master for me.

Next. Come in.

Miss, please.

This is not lime powder.

How much poison did she take?

Young Master, she took it all.

Take a closer look.

Who am I?

You are my master.

Your Heart Devouring Powder is really magical.

It's worth it. So many beauties died for it.

This poison

has finally succeeded.

Am I right, Tianhu?

With the Heart Devouring Powder,

you don’t need to worry if Miss Ke doesn't obey.

That's the woman I love.

Watch your mouth.

Besides,

the poison's effect is still unstable.

Who's going to pay for it if I poison her to death?

Ke Menglan, that bitch.

I'll make her submit to me with her whole body and heart sooner or later.

There'll be no need for poison.

Come on.

Tianhu.

Do you know

who the "bitch" I was talking about is?

It's my sister.

Is your sister

a bitch?

If Master says so, no doubt she is.

Is everyone here?

Sorry to keep you waiting.

Come with me.

Aren't we going to see Mr. Ke?

It's the same talking to me.

Come with me.

According to rough estimation,

2,500 taels.

It's really not enough.

Why didn't you knock?

You're getting more and more unruly.

Long time no see.

How many times have you missed me?

Mr. Tang.

What are you looking at?

Do you prefer there's someone out there

or not?

In broad daylight,

this is not the Tangs' Gambling House.

Please behave yourself, Mr. Tang.

You really don't know me.

In my whole life,

what I love the most is someone else's house,

and someone else's woman.

Forget it. I won't tease you today.

I came here

to discuss something serious with you.

Here, let me show you something.

Open it.

[Elevation Certificate]

It really took me a lot of effort

to get your elevation certificate

from the Music Office.

Take this to any government office,

and you'll be elevated out of lowly status.

Beauty.

You must be careful.

This is the only copy.

If there is any damage,

there will be no turning back.

Tell me.

There are so many men in the world

who admire you,

saying they'd steal the moon and stars for you.

How many of them can be like me,

knowing what you really want?

Why don't you tell me frankly, Mr. Tang?

What do you want me to exchange it for?

After the renovation,

our Liansheng House is indeed more magnificent.

It'll be more beautiful when the red lanterns are lit

when it gets dark.

Right.

Tianhu.

What's the matter, Miss?

Are you a little tired?

A little.

I went to see you at the box between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Where did you go?

You are tricking me again, Miss.

I've been in the box the whole time.

Miss.

Xiaoyu.

Where's Ling'er?

She's sneaking food in the kitchen.

If you tell on her, you are not a good friend.

Be my spy

and help me win the bet of Young Master Xiang.

Mr. Yun never set a bet.

It's exactly Mr. Yun whose motive is exerable.

He asked you to make Liansheng House

better than the Tangs' Gambling House in every aspect.

My life-or-death bet with him

has started a long time ago.

But she's the one who's not obedient.

All right.

Xiaoyu, Ling'er. You can eat anything you want

in Liansheng House from now on.

Okay?

Are you hungry now?

Go.

Have some snacks with Tianhu in the kitchen.

Watch them.

Don't let them get burnt.

Mr. Yun.

You've worked hard, Manager Ke.

Have you recruited all the people we need?

The handymen and chefs are fully recruited.

We've hired seven head dealers. We still need some more.

I'll meet with the musicians tomorrow.

I'm sure I can pick some good ones.

I don't know how long I'd have to work

on these complicated matters

without you, Manager Ke.

I'm really tired.

If there's nothing else you need me for, Mr. Yun,

can I go back to my room to rest?

Sure.

As you expected,

Tang Xiao went to Shengxingyuan

and stayed there for an hour.

Did you alert him?

I didn't follow him in there.

So I don't know what he did.

Sometimes,

you don't have to hear or see with your own ears and eyes.

Menglan is not a betrayer.

After Godfather got in trouble,

she managed Liansheng House all by herself.

I never saw her being selfish.

Why did I ask you

to inquire about her whereabouts today?

Qian Rong sent a secret letter,

saying someone took away Menglan's elevation certificate

from the Music Office.

That's right.

Who do you think did it?

Yun Xiang.

No matter what Tang Xiao said to Menglan,

I don't think she'll do anything bad.

How about I talk to her,

or let Su Mingyu talk to her?

Let me ask you this.

If you're in the dark right now,

what would you want the most?

To see light.

That's right.

To see light.

Perhaps for Ke Menglan,

it's her lifelong wish

to be elevated out of lowly status.

It might be the light in her heart.

Now this opportunity is right in front of her.

So if she chose to side with Tang Xiao,

I won’t blame her.

But have you thought about it?

Once you make it clear,

it's like forcing her to

make a choice between friendship and freedom.

How cruel is that?

If we don't make it clear, we can make use of her

to deliver wrong news to Tang Xiao.

You want to use the same trick again?

If Menglan decided to help Tang Xiao,

how can she and Su Mingyu keep their relationship?

Have you ever thought

why Qian Rong gave the secret letter

to me first,

instead of asking Mingyu directly?

Think about it.

What would Su Mingyu do if he knew about this, given his temper?

If he forces Miss Menglan to make a choice,

what would Miss Menglan do?

Is it really the best choice

to tell Su Mingyu?

Did Tang Xiao

just force us into a dead end like this?

Of course not.

As long as I win this bet,

everything will be solved.

And I want to tell you that

I'll definitely win

this bet.

How much Drunken Dragon Powder did you use?

I used all that I brought.

How prodigal!

If you change it to taels,

they could've smashed him to death.

Stop pretending.

The antidote should take effect immediately.

Get up.

Tell me.

What's Yun Xiang's plan?

Tell me all about it.

Yun Xiang is the one who wants to beat you.

Go get him.

What are you arresting me for?

Ten Taels of Gold.

I think

you are a sensible person.

So,

let's get straight to the point.

Have some of this.

You should have heard about me.

I'm a businessman.

I want to treat everyone equally.

So those who fall into my hands

won't end well.

You know that too.

So...

So, if you want to die a decent death,

let's make it quick.

Fine.

Is Qi Tianfeng at your place?

I don't know.

You don't know anything, right?

You're the man Yun Xiang trusts the most.

I'm flattered.

The men he trusts the most are Shu Yanan

and Su Mingyu.

I'm just a swordsman who goes by paycheck.

How much does he pay you,

killing people for him?

Ten taels for each person, for real?

Of course.

How about this? Come work for me.

I'll pay you more.

How much?

20 taels.

I won’t do it even if you give me 10000 taels.

Ten Taels of Gold!

If you want to die, I'll grant your wish.

I'll grant your wish.

If I become an evil spirit,

none of you

will make it out alive.

Take him down.

[Lingyuan Sect Ye Xiao]

Mr. Ye.

Recently, the gambling house has cleared another sum of money.

Although the Cao Sect is gone,

I will transfer the money to the north of Yangtze River

at all costs.

It's just that,

according to your order,

I've killed many people from Yuntai Sect.

If I really irritate them,

I'll need Lingyuan Sect's help.

Before the matter of Young Master Xiang is solved,

you don't need to transfer the money anymore.

In case someone follows you

and gets us involved.

You've done a great job all these years.

If you can defeat Yuntai Sect and make another contribution,

I wouldn't mind you become a disciple of our sect.

This way, no matter what trouble you get into,

someone will have your back.

Thank you for your help, Mr. Ye.

Before that,

you'd better keep your identity a secret.

If you dare to tell anyone about Lingyuan Sect,

you'll suffer the consequences yourself.

I understand.

Since we don't miss each other every day, we miss each other now.

That's why I miss you.

I got to know that my Menglan was promoted to manager.

I was more than happy to hear that.

But I also saw you working hard all day,

so I didn't dare to disturb you.

I could only prepare a few dishes

to express my love for you.

It's my fault for being stupid

and making my beloved suffer alone.

From now on,

I'll be with Menglan forever.

A heart for a heart.

[Mingyu]

[No regret once the move is made]
