General Qin, you've worked hard.

Why did you come back suddenly?

(Qin Zuze) Your Majesty.

(Qin Zuze)

Is it right

for an educated person to disobey one's own mother?

General Qin, I disagree.

How dare you

create trouble

in the royal court?

Let him go.

How dare a eunuch interrupt me

when I'm speaking.

We return this time

to get rid of the vile people

by Your Majesty's side.

My loyalty can be seen by all.

(Gathering of Brilliance)

(Gathering of Brilliance) This way, please.

Miss, the trainer is here.

Shen Xiao, greet him.

Greetings, Sir.

Is he learning martial arts at such a young age?

He's not young.

We need to educate children

when they are young.

Mother.

I saw him before.

Where?

We put him on our gate.

Grandfather said the fiercer he looks,

the better he can guard the house.

Sir, can you guard the house?

Miss Shen. Young Master is too precious.

I'm afraid he cannot withstand

the training.

Please look for someone else.

Sir, he's just a child!

Don't mind him!

Next person.

Mother, his viciousness

can really guard the house.

Miss Shen, please find someone else.

Miss Shen.

Mother, he's so ugly!

Farewell.

Sir...

Here.

- Xiao! - Xiao!

Xiao.

Xiao.

- Xiao! - Xiao!

What happened?

I...

Xiao.

Well...

Xiao, wake up!

Xiao, wake up.

Miaomiao.

I came over as soon as I heard the news.

How is Xiao?

Perhaps he is exhausted from the training.

This is...

I have ginseng, deer antlers and cordyceps.

Feed him more.

You are really generous.

Mother.

You're awake?

Xiyuan, you're here.

Xiao.

Tell me.

Who made you suffer?

I'll teach him a lesson.

It's not anyone's fault.

Mother and Master only did it for my sake.

Look. He's really considerate.

His kindness

is just like mine.

You too.

Xiao is a premature child.

He is weak.

You should take it slow

when it comes to learning martial arts.

Xiao.

Tell me.

What do you want to do when you grow up?

I want...

I want to eat bayberries.

What's so hard about that?

The Song family has an orchard that's dozens of mu big.

It covers half of the outskirts in the north of the city.

You can have

as many bayberries as you want,

let alone

a single one.

Let's pick them up tomorrow. All right?

All right.

Come.

Mother, let's go together.

Why do both of you decide things so quickly?

Xiao only mentioned

a small wish.

Can't we fulfill it?

Mother.

- Miaomiao. - Mother.

Fine.

Fine, Xiao.

I'll take you there.

All right.

Why are you soaking wet?

Her Highness summoned me

and made me wait.

Qin Zuze must have been well-prepared

before returning.

Your life is in danger.

I have to congratulate you.

What for?

His Majesty said

Ninth Princess is interested in you that she travelled a lot.

He is going to grant a marriage.

What?

No way.

She was always angry at me.

Is that a form of affection?

Are you lying to me?

I dare not fake an imperial edict.

But...

But she didn't act like that

when she liked you.

The nature of things

changes according to the environment.

If you apologize to me,

I will give you Shen Miao's portrait.

It was drawn few days ago.

Fresh out of the oven.

Pei Yanzhen, you...

How despicable.

How's Miao?

She is doing great.

You miss them,

but they don't miss you.

Shen Xiao is close to Song Xiyuan like they are father and son.

The three of them

are living happy lives.

Oh.

Our scouts said

confidants of Qin Zuze have arrived at Lingzhou City.

They pretended to be merchants and opened up shops near Shen's Residence.

The Shen's Residence?

What are they planning for?

We still don't know.

It's been three years.

Perhaps Empress Dowager has forgotten Shen Miao and her child.

It might just be a misunderstanding.

This concerns Miao and her child.

We must be careful.

Xiao's birthday is coming soon.

Make the preparation. We'll go back.

But

if the Empress Dowager finds out...

Be careful.

Don't let other people find out.

This basket is for Grandfather and Grandmother.

This basket is for Uncle.

This big basket is for Mother.

This small basket is for me.

What a happy day.

Miaomiao.

Let me tell you.

This orchard was my mother's betrothal gift.

Later, my father found out

she liked to eat these fruits,

so he ordered someone to plant them.

Can the Song family eat so much?

No.

What about the rest?

We sold them.

That's it.

It's exactly the same as what I said.

You don't understand the intention

behind this action.

Lychees at Lingnan

are called "Concubine's Smile".

I want to give a name

to the bayberries of Song's Orchard.

I will call them

"Miaomiao's Smile".

What do you think?

"Miaomiao's Smile".

Mother.

I think it's very good.

"Miaomiao's Smile".

"Miaomiao's Smile".

Does Xiao smile as well?

Xiao smiles.

I smile too.

Xiyuan smiles!

Stop!

Official Pei.

It has been three years.

There has been no news about you.

Why did you

choose to come back now?

Is it

because of my son's birthday?

Master Song, you misunderstood.

I am

only back here for work purposes.

They say

evil people have bad luck.

The road here is wide,

yet your wheels

still got stuck in the mud.

Seems like

the roads of Lingzhou

still don't welcome you.

You should return to the capital

and remain as a minister.

Let's go.

Sir, let's go.

Official Zhan is waiting for us.

"Miaomiao's Smile".

This name

is beautiful.

Ask Zhan Yue to go to Zhezhe Tavern

and check the situation.

(Shen Residence)

Pei Yanzhen

already left,

but why does he still annoy me?

No.

I can't be affected by him.

My business is going to be snatched.

Make money. I must think about making money.

(Tavern)

Zhan Yue, how dare you.

What are you looking at?

You are acting sneakily.

I...

Are you following me?

I know I'm handsome

but I have important things to do.

Farewell.

Are you investigating a case?

Is it fun?

Can you bring me along?

This is important.

There's no fun in it.

No.

If you won't bring me,

I will go inside the tavern and tell everyone

that Guard Zhan is peeking.

Let's go.

Dear customers, what do you want?

A jar of wine and two dishes.

- Sure. - That's all?

You're so stingy.

Are you paying?

Sir.

Five minutes ago, he was...

I'll pay.

I want this, this and this.

Sure. Please wait.

What are you looking at?

I don't like you.

Who likes you?

Her?

This is serious.

Why are you jealous?

I'm not jealous.

Besides,

when did I like you?

No wonder you don't want me here.

I'm insensible

and disturbed both of you.

Causing trouble out of nothing.

You...

Why are you so anxious?

Why are you comparing her to me?

Besides,

when did I like you?

Why isn't Ninth Princess here yet?

There's a new tavern called Zhezhe in the east of the city.

They snatched most of my business.

I made a few thousand taels less.

Do you need someone to cause trouble there?

Why don't I bring Zhan Yue?

No need.

I just

want you to study

their business methods.

At the same time,

we will look at how pretty

their dancers are.

See you at quarter to six tomorrow.

Sure.

Why isn't she here yet?

You're finally here. Take the wine inside.

This is exactly the same as the Master's seal of the Shen family.

We have been doing business with him for a few months.

There won't be a mistake.

With these few falsified ledgers,

we will soon be able to seize

the Shen family's assets.

Keep this Shen family's seal well.

Shen family's seal?

Who is it?

Let's go.

What's going on?

It's just a cat.

Let's go.

We'll look somewhere else.

Let's go.

I think

your eyes look familiar.

Are your legs fine?

The red mark behind your ear

looks familiar too.

The callus on your left hand

suggests you are left-handed.

I've never seen someone like you.

This is weird.

We never met before.

Your way of getting to know me

is quite old-fashioned, Miss.

You are perceptive.

I am

a girl.

I just learned to disguise myself.

How embarrassing.

May I know your name

and where your house is?

I will visit and thank you in the future.

Someone's here.

He looks like...

Pei Yanzhen?

He is just a scholar. He doesn't know martial arts.

He is also not that kind.

It won't be him.

He is not worthy for me to think of him.

(Ledger)

I was interrupted by the Ninth Princess.

How was your investigation?

That tavern

is used to frame the Shen family indeed.

Failing to report a large tribute,

taking the royal court's land,

and involving themselves in the official trade of salt and iron.

These crimes

are enough to put the whole Shen family to death.

Don't be afraid.

It's me.

It's me.

Miaomiao.

Are you trying to scare me to death?

Father.

Where is our family's seal?

Seal?

Where's my seal?

Where's my seal?

It's over here.

It's here.

The seal is here.

What's wrong?

Someone forged

our family's seal at Zhezhe Tavern.

I don't know what their intention is.

Is it true?

But...

But tomorrow is Xiao's birthday.

Go back and rest.

When this is over,

we'll investigate it.

Go back and sleep.

Keep it well.

Xiao.

I am here.

I don't care if Pei Yanzhen isn't here.

But why is Song Xiyuan absent as well?

Xiao.

Xiyuan.

Xiao.

This is your birthday present.

Do you like it?

Xiao.

This is also your birthday present.

A lousy jade.

What a shame to be giving that.

The Shen family does have everything.

Xiao. If you like it,

you can take it.

It's not appropriate.

Mother.

I want this.

I want to make a bookmark with this.

Young Master will grow to be someone capable

with his love for literature.

Xiao, don't play with that.

Let's play with the cat.

Come here.

It's Xiao's birthday.

Since he likes it, just take it.

It might be useful

in an important situation in the future.

You prefer my birthday gift, right?

Make yourself at home.

I like it.

I knew it.

Pei Yanzhen.

Look.

It is smiling at you.

Miao.

Xiao, look.

Was it you

last night?

Quick, tell your mother.

Mother.

Xiyuan said

this cat is calling your name.

Meow.

It really is.

Mother, play with me.

Mother, hurry.

Come here, Mother.

Is it cute?

Give me.

Give me.

I want to play with it.

I'm giving you both.

Sure. Pet it.

Give it.

Let it play.

Look.

Come and have a look.

Have a look at the rouge.

Why? Did you regret it?

Why did you give such a precious pendant

to Shen Miao then?

The Qin family is cunning.

Leaving that jade pendant

might save Miao's life at least.

Let's go, Xiao.

Hurry up.

Pei Yanzhen!

Pei Yanzhen!

Come, Xiao.

Hurry.

Follow me.

I can't turn back right now.

Pei Yanzhen!

Pei Yanzhen, I have something to tell you!

Pei Yanzhen, why are you avoiding me?

Pei Yanzhen!

Benefactor.

Who are you calling?

You made a mistake.

Zhan Yue.

Why did he ignore me?

Has he been avoiding me?

He returned to Lingzhou in secret.

He left because his work is done.

Besides, why should he avoid you?

He has been

lying to me for the past three years.

He didn't even look for you. How could he lie to you?

Mother.

Didn't you say I could always be safe

because I met a benefactor?

When I fell in the water, fell down from the tree

and got lost once,

it was this man who helped me.

It's nothing much.

Did Pei Yanzhen

ask you to protect us in secret?

How can you say he isn't lying?

He kept hiding and won't give up.

He even saved me at the tavern last night.

What does he want?

Pei Yanzhen's intention is complicated.

I wouldn't know.

Zhan Yue!

Your Majesty,

(Daqing Gate)

when I returned to Lingzhou to visit my family,

I accidentally found out

someone forging seals and documents

to frame the Shen family.

Please investigate it.

Everyone knows

your relationship with the Shen family.

Are you doing this for personal reason

or for justice?

The Shen family is reputable in Lingzhou

yet they are still being framed.

If we are going to ignore this,

wouldn't it put everyone at risk

and cause chaos among people?

Your Majesty.

You must

investigate this.

In that case,

I'll follow your suggestion, Uncle.

Yes.

(Tavern)

Pei Yanzhen helped us plead for our innocence

(Tavern) in the morning,

and the tavern got cleaned out in the afternoon.

I'm afraid we can't find any more clues.

What clues do you need?

If the Shen family's assets go to the treasury,

the person who benefits the most is General Qin

apart from the Empress Dowager.

There are no more suspects.

Thankfully, Pei Yanzhen is around.

He wouldn't have done this

if he didn't have lingering feelings for you.

If he does have feelings for you,

why did he go missing for three years?

In order to help the society,

he must have offended many nobles for the past three years.

He is a righteous person.

I'm sure he has to do this

because he doesn't want to involve our family.

(I knew it)

(since I'm too good to be given up.)

Brother.

How can you let His Majesty investigate this?

If he finds out we are the ones behind it...

It's nothing much.

The people they captured

are the Qin family's men who aren't afraid of death.

In the end,

all witnesses will be dead and they won't find anything.

We spent a lot of effort.

I didn't expect

Pei Yanzhen to spoil our plan near the end.

What a cunning person.

They divorced for three years,

but he still can't forget the Shen family.

It's nothing.

We have Pei Yanzhen's weakness now.

There's nothing difficult about him.

Brother, you mean...

My daughter Qin Miuzhen

is at the age of marriage.

If you grant a marriage,

do you think Pei Yanzhen will go against your edict

with his love for Shen Miao?

I will see what he says.

If it's true,

I can get rid of him.

Your Majesty.

I will never marry Qin Miuzhen.

I knew you would say that.

But rejecting a marriage is punishable by death.

Doing that is what they want.

I might not be able to protect you

even if I'm the emperor.

If you die, who will protect Shen Miao and her son?

Pei Yanzhen.

There's always hope as long as you are still alive.

The marriage is a delaying tactic.

You can get a divorce later.

Even if I marry Qin Miuzhen,

the Qin family won't spare everyone.

However, you will buy enough time

and have an opportunity to hit the enemy on the inside.

When you have the evidence of Qin family's crime,

you can arrest them all.

Yanzhen.

Even if you don't think about yourself,

you should think about Shen Miao and her son.

Do you think Mother

will spare the Shen family and your parents

after you die?

I think

there are other solutions

as long as the decision isn't final.

I can give you time

but the Qin family won't.

The order for the marriage has not been issued.

But Mother has ordered

Qin Miuzhen to return to Lingzhou and prepare for the wedding.

She wanted you to be the escort.

Yanzhen. Everything is related.

You have to think carefully.
