=Episode 11=

I wonder what your question is.

May I ask who is the father

of the baby inside your tummy?

What's wrong?

You do want to answer me?

Do you refuse to pay up on your promise?

Of course not.

I'm all ears.

As I'm pregnant with the baby,

it certainly is my baby.

I mean the father of the baby.

We agreed to ask only one question.

This is the second question.

Are you going to break your promise?

Besides,

how could you ask such a question?

You knew I'm the daughter of the Shen family.

May I know who you are?

Your Majesty.

- Your Majesty. - Your Majesty.

Your Majesty, I'm Magistrate Pei Yanzhen of Lingzhou City.

- Long live Your Majesty! - Long live Your Majesty!

You may rise.

- Thank you, Your Majesty. - Thank you, Your Majesty.

Come.

Yanzhen, that's so fast of you.

I don't know if you're here for me

or for Miss Shen?

I didn't know Your Majesty is here.

Please forgive me

for not greeting you properly.

Well,

if I wanted to condemn you,

I wouldn't have talked to you like this.

Don't push it.

I guess Miss Shen

doesn't know

about my relationship with Yanzhen.

I'm slow-witted.

I dare not speculate on the royal family.

Pei Yanzhen.

You vixen gave

your heart to another vixen.

You're in big trouble now.

Well, break it up.

I'm here to mingle among the commoners.

Don't gather here and interrupt the people.

Noted.

It's been years.

The bridge and lake look the same as they did.

I think you must've renovated them.

You keep the look

of the house like it used to be when I was young.

How sweet of you.

You're being overly gracious.

I got

this residence by chance

a few years ago.

Now

I can present it to you.

(Property deed)

You don't have to do this.

Actually, I didn't mean to seize

Shen's Rice Shop.

Just that Miss Shen's matter has

implicated the leading officials

and the future candidate of court purveyor.

If you were exempted from the penalty,

it'd bring trouble to the Shen family.

I understand.

Well,

it's a matter in the past.

I wonder

what Miss Shen looks like as she has made

the two talented men fall for her.

How about this?

We'll have dinner

at your residence today.

Yes, noted.

I'll go arrange it now.

Shen Qian.

Keep it well.

I'll excuse myself.

It's too risky for you to mingle

among the commoners.

You and Her Highness are not in the capital.

Who is it that handles the public affairs?

I rarely came out.

Can't you

treat me like your friend?

If you

were my friend,

why would you come and see Miao?

I came just to see

if the woman who made your heart flutter

is an ugly woman without virtue

like Shen Qian said.

Your Majesty.

Don't worry.

I know

the Shen family refuses to marry her to me.

I'm not a narrow-minded person.

I won't get mad because of this.

But,

Mother and I

came to Lingzhou City

just to look into one thing.

This is related to Shen Miao.

What is it?

The former court purveyor, Lu family.

Mother heard

that the fortune Lu family left behind

is currently in Shen Miao's hands.

Pei Yanzhen,

according to Mother's personality,

what do you think she'll do to Shen Miao?

What do you think

Pei Yanzhen's relationship

with His Majesty is?

Whatever it is,

it has nothing to do with you.

Why do I feel like

they're like friends

and enemies?

By the way,

didn't you say

the Empress Dowager came to Lingzhou City today?

One of them came

looking for my dad and another one came to me.

Third Master Song,

did they take this southern tour

for the Shen family?

What are you thinking?

An inspection tour has existed since ancient times.

Besides,

we're just lowly merchants.

No matter how good our business is,

they don't have to go this far.

Indeed.

Your Highness,

I heard that you love tea.

I happen

to have a piece of fine brick tea.

Please have a taste.

That's so thoughtful of you.

The Shen family is rich.

What you have is certainly extraordinary.

One moment, please.

This is it.

Your Highness,

smell the fragrance of the tea

and look at its color.

It's a treasure of the century.

I wouldn't take it out

and share it with the guest

if it's an idler.

Shen Qian,

is this

a briquette?

You're so funny, Your Highness.

Bring the boiled water over.

Your Highness.

Your Highness,

it's an odd way of brewing tea.

But only the strangest way is

good enough for the most extraordinary tea leaves.

Please have a taste.

You don't have to do this.

This is such a precious thing.

Just save it for yourself.

You're too polite, Your Highness.

I'm not.

Your Highness, you must drink it while it's hot.

- So... - Geez.

His Majesty is here!

Greetings to Your Majesty.

Shen Qian, don't be too formal.

Mother.

The place is surrounded by bamboos and trees.

Shen's Residence surely deserves the praise.

I didn't know Your Majesty was here.

It's my bad

for not greeting you in advance.

Don't say that.

If I didn't come today,

I wouldn't know it is a rumor that Miss Shen is an ugly woman.

When were you planning to tell me this?

Rest assured.

Yanzhen has explained it

to me on our way here.

Well, don't just stand there.

Since we're in civil society,

just be casual. Let's sit down and talk.

I've long heard that you love tea.

The tea is well-brewed.

I'll help myself.

- Son. - Your Ma...

As expected.

It's a nice tea.

Miss, you need to take care of your baby.

I can't care about it.

If I'm to put on a show in the foyer later,

my life will be cut in half.

Why is that?

His Majesty seems like a gentleman

who's easy to deal with.

You're back, Miss Shen.

I've waited here for so long.

Who are you?

I'm Jingde who serves His Majesty.

His Majesty would like to use the fish

he caught today to make a feast for everyone at Shen's Residence.

Please move to the foyer.

A feast?

I just came back with His Majesty.

But I didn't hear of this.

It's the Emperor's kindness.

We can't doubt it.

His Majesty said

Lingzhou is well-known with its seafood.

And the fish was caught by His Majesty.

So he wanted to share it with his people.

I'm pregnant

and I'm exhausted today.

Can you please count me out?

You're too polite, Miss Shen.

But this is His Majesty's order.

I can't disobey it.

Her Highness has compassion for you

so she asked us to prepare a sedan chair for you.

I dare not trouble you.

I'll just go by myself.

Please, Miss Shen.

(A refreshing scene after rain)

I haven't had the delicacies of Lingzhou for so long.

I can finally satisfy my cravings today.

Thank you

for preparing a hearty meal.

I'm flattered.

They're all homely dishes.

This is the fish Your Majesty caught.

It's my pleasure to be able to eat

with Your Majesty and Your Highness.

Your Majesty, Your Highness,

since everyone is here,

please start the feast.

The fish soup won't taste good if it gets cold.

Wait.

Someone is not here yet.

Greetings to Your Highness.

It's unnecessary. Please rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty, Your Highness.

I'm flattered as Your Majesty grants us a feast.

You're gracious.

I grant you a feast?

When did I...

Miss Shen, you're pregnant.

Please take a seat.

Come.

Sit with me.

Miss Shen is indeed

brilliant, beautiful

and lovely.

I see why these two young men fall for you

and they're obsessed with you.

I'm flattered.

I'm just the daughter of a merchant.

I can be ignorant.

If you're offended,

please forgive me.

Look at this girl.

Of course not, I like you.

I'm not offended at all.

By the way, Shen Qian,

quickly take a seat.

- Help yourselves. - Yes.

Come, sit down and eat.

It feels like she doesn't come in peace.

Let's play it by ear.

I've grown

rather fond of you.

Well,

here is a rose pie.

See if it tastes good.

Your Highness,

rose has the effect of promoting blood circulation.

Miao is pregnant. She can't eat it.

Yanzhen is knowledgeable.

I'm such an old woman.

I'm confused about everything.

By the way,

that fried Chinese yam is neutral

in nature and sweet.

It's suitable for a pregnant woman.

Try it, Miao.

Your Highness, you might not know

that Miaomiao doesn't like to eat Chinese yam.

I love my wife.

I'll have to say this even if there's a risk

of being condemned by you.

You're such a love fool.

As both of you love each other so much,

well,

you'll finish the plate of Chinese yam as a punishment.

Thank you, Your Highness.

Your Majesty, Your Highness,

since Miao got pregnant,

she can't bear the smell of fish and eat meat.

We wouldn't want Miao

to disfigure your mood.

Why don't we let her go back first?

Look at her.

It's my loss.

I'm afraid I can't eat with you, Your Majesty,

Your Highness.

I haven't seen Jiu for a long time.

Today, I finally see

a kid I like.

But we couldn't even have

a meal together.

Miao, are you not willing to eat with me?

Mother,

I agree with Shen Qian.

Miss Shen has taken a lake trip with me for half a day.

She must've been exhausted.

Why don't we let her take a break?

Well,

I'm sure Miss Shen has eaten a lot

of Lingzhou City's delicacies.

But this fish soup is

personally prepared by His Majesty.

It's fresh.

Jingde.

Yes.

Get Miss Shen a bowl of it.

Yes.

Well.

Your Highness,

I wonder if I have the chance

to be

the honored one to try the fish?

Of course, there'll be one bowl for each of you.

All of you can have it.

Mother,

this is the fish I caught.

I should have the first bowl.

What a hungry man.

Fine.

One for each of us. Let's share the happiness.

Jingde.

Yes.

The fish soup is fresh and tasty.

You can drink it, Miss Shen.

Thank you, Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Thank you, Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Thank you, Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Miss Shen,

the fish soup is bestowed by His Majesty.

You can't knock it over.

Gramercy, Your Majesty, Your Highness.

Drink up.

(A refreshing scene after rain)

- How is she, Physician? - How is she?

Miss Shen has a stable pulse.

There's no sign of being poisoned.

What about the red dot on her neck?

What about the little red rash?

What about the color of Miaomiao's lips?

She doesn't look right.

Is she poisoned?

Well.

Well.

So, is she poisoned?

Yes.

What do you mean?

Just go.

Yes.

No.

Well...

You...

How could you...

Guys,

I wasn't the only one

who drank the fish soup.

Official Pei and Third Master Song,

even His Majesty drank it.

What can happen to me?

And this.

I got this mosquito bite when I was fishing

by the lake yesterday.

And hair loss is

a normal sign during pregnancy.

As for this,

this is the lip balm

messed up after dinner.

I was going to fix my makeup.

Yet, someone lied and said

I wasn't well when I just left.

Then, I was sent back here.

As long as you're fine.

Just get some rest.

Yes, go back and rest.

I hope that person can't find cracks in this.

The fish soup was

distributed to all of us.

I guess there's nothing fishy about it.

That person?

We're screwed.

What do you mean?

We're screwed.

(A refreshing scene after rain)

They have a lot of guts.

Even though Shen Miao does not feel well,

how dare they forget to see us off?

We're late.

Please condemn us, Your Highness, Your Majesty.

- Long live Your Majesty. - Long live Your Majesty.

- Long live Your Highness. - Long live Your Highness.

You...

That's enough.

Before creating a peaceful nation,

we must take good care of the family.

It's moral ethics.

A family is the basis of ethical culture.

Besides, Miss Shen is pregnant now.

It's understandable that you care about her.

All of you, rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

Come, easy.

What's wrong, Official Pei?

I'm feeling a little dizzy.

Thank you.

You're welcome, Official Pei.

I'll get going.

(Conscience)

Look at me.

My monthly wage is less than five taels.

I have to be your coachman,

bodyguard and hitman,

and do all those dirty things for you.

I might as well be the guard of Shen family if I knew this.

I would be paid higher.

I'm afraid you'll have to do a thing for me.

What is it?

Search the kitchen of Shen's Residence.

I'm afraid

Miao's life is in danger.

(Eunuch Jingde's fingers were pale.)

(They emitted herbal fragrance.)

(He must've touched)

(the herbal that has soaked for a long time within two hours.)

(Besides, the fish soup got a strong taste.)

(I suspected that he tried to cover it.)

(You have)

(to find out the herbal.)

(Pei's Residence)

I've seen this somewhere.

(Wen Hao)

Impressive.

Wen Hao, it's from Nan Realm.

The male and female plants will never separate.

The male plant is crimson in color. It can hasten the baby delivery.

It can kill the pregnant woman invisibly.

Once one eats it,

she'll die of heavy blood loss in four hours.

Only the white female plant can detoxify it.

Wen Hao likes a warm and damp place.

It's afraid of light and fire.

There's only one place

in the palace that is suitable to grow it.

But it's been a while.

What if Jingde destroys the antidote?

This is a unique thing.

I'm sure the perpetrator

will keep some so it can be

of use in the future.

Go get the antidote.

I'll hold them off.

I can't remember it all.

Yanzhen,

you're a master of chess.

Can you help me?

It's an offense to interrupt

your game.

How would I dare to show myself off?

I think

the methods of playing chess vary

in different situations.

This pawn poses no threat to you.

In my opinion,

it's best to wait and see.

Your Majesty and Yanzhen,

have you ever heard of sacrificing a pawn to take the lead?

What is the time now?

It's already nine.

So,

it's less than one hour before I go to bed.

(Remember, the crimson one is poisonous.)

(The white one is the antidote.)

Who are you?

There's an assassin!

Help me!

Go!

Don't make a sound.

It's bad. There's an assassin!

How dare you lay a finger on me?

Your Highness, look carefully.

It's me. We met at Pei's Residence last time.

You're that silly guard.

Did Pei Yanzhen ask you to come here?

I know.

I know that I'm an innate beauty

that it's hard to forget.

He even asked you to bring me a token of love.

But I already...

Oh gosh.

With your eloquence and personality,

you and Pei Yanzhen could make a good couple.

You know?

I'm handling a matter of life and death.

So what?

What are you doing?

What is that sound?

Go look over there.

- I... - Yes.

Give it to Pei Yanzhen.

What?

He should be in here.

Let's guard here.

Her Highness's men will be here soon.

Beg for my help.

You're here.

The assassin is in the room now.

Search it.

Yes.

I beg of you.

Please help me.

Jingde!

Pei Yanzhen.

What is this about?

I don't understand.

Please enlighten me.

It was usually safe here.

But many problems happened when you came.

Mother.

Well...

I don't understand

what you're talking about.

Very well.

You still want to beat around the bush.

As such,

let's talk

about your mother.

Mother.

Mother,

you have to seek justice for me.

Jingde sneaked a peek

at me when I was getting changed.

Your Highness,

I didn't do it.

How dare you deny it?

Mother,

you had dinner at Shen's Residence without me.

So I took a walk at the Royal Garden

and stepped on the flowers to vent my anger.

But he sent the soldiers out after me.

He even sneaked a peek at me when I was getting changed.

That's enough. I understand.

Come out with me, Jingde.

Yes.

Brother, you have to seek justice for me.

Say something.

What's going on?

Your Highness, I didn't do it.

This must be Pei Yanzhen's plan.

Shut up.

If this continues,

it'll only build walls between me and His Majesty.

Pei Yanzhen,

I'd like to see

how you're going to rescue Shen Miao.

Quick.

Be careful.

Wash the towel.

Get the warm water, quick.

Take more warm water.

I've practiced medicine for decades.

But I've never seen such a situation.
