[Catch Up, My Prince]

[Episode 8]

Lu Ren Jia, accept this gift.

The Empress Dowager gave you this. Keep it carefully.

Xiao Jia, I received this jade bracelet as a reward.

It's a pair. I'm giving one to you.

You and I have always been like this.

I don't blame you. This is fate.

You will move to Always Inviting Palace.

I only hope you stay safe and all goes smoothly.

It's a destiny calculated by a program.

It's something we can't change.

Sugarcane the Fourth, this might apply

to both of us.

Eunuch Bao, why are you here?

I'm not a Eunuch; I'm an Imperial Guard.

I'm sure you've heard

that Lu Ren Jia moved to Always Inviting Palace.

She is mischievous

but kind. We were introduced in the past.

As a friend, I worry she might make mistakes as it's her first time at Always Inviting Palace.

Please take good care of her.

Eunuch B... I mean Imperial Guard Bao, no need for formalities.

I've heard that Miss Lu is medically skilled

and helped the Crown Prince so she was promoted to Always Inviting Palace.

Moreover, she's Imperial Guard Bao's friend

so I'll treat her like she's my own friend.

Then I'm counting on you.

It clearly started with me trying to complete my mission.

Since when did an NPC start affecting my heart?

I know his character is presumed to be a playboy.

His intentional or unintentional gentle gestures

are probably normal to him, like eating and drinking.

However, I can't help but indulge in it.

Xiao Shun Zi, why are you here?

Miss Lu, my apologies.

We want you to come with us.

Is she working at Always Inviting Palace now?

Don't worry, Your Highness. I've already bribed Matron of Always Inviting Palace,

and told her that she's my friend.

I'm sure they won't make things tough for Xiao Jia.

You're smart.

Since my request was declined by my father,

we just have to let her suffer a while at Always Inviting Palace.

The Crown Prince was always lenient, and Xiao Jia is smart and crafty.

Besides, we're helping her secretly. I don't think anything will go wrong.

Prince, you might not know

that someone wrote a heart-protecting prescription for Crown Prince today.

It is the long-lost Longevity Soup.

I'm very fortunate and happy to see it in my lifetime.

Lord Sun, do you know who wrote it?

It was written by a lady with the surname Lu.

Previously, during the talent assessment,

she displayed skill in anatomy.

This time with the prescription,

it is also greatly beneficial

toward the Crown Prince's illness.

If Eldest Brother can get this person's help, his health will surely improve.

Fourth Prince, you are correct.

Last time, Crown Prince also mentioned that Miss Lu gave him some medicine.

I'll get this done immediately. Hopefully, the Crown Prince

can recover promptly.

- Take care. - This is good

She seems interested in medicine.

It can be regarded as fulfilling her wish.

She can gain Eldest Brother's recognition

while Lord Xu and others can't hurt her.

Isn't Miss Xin'er also in Always Inviting Palace serving meals?

Surely she can also take good care of Xiao Jia for you.

You shouldn't have mentioned that.

By the way, I saw Ministry of Rites made some new products a few days ago.

The artificial flowers are very beautiful.

Get a few for me, and deliver them to her.

Although she works at Crown Prince's Palace, she shouldn't suffer.

Your Highness, I know you care about Xiao Jia.

But you should care about me too.

I just returned from Always Inviting Palace and didn't have a chance to sit.

- Come on, I'll take care of you. - Fine, fine. I'll go now. I'll go now.

Miss Xin'er.

Xiao Bao? Why are you here?

I'm here under Fourth Prince's order seeking Xiao Jia.

Could Miss Xin'er do me a favor and ask her to come here?

- The one called Lu Ren Jia? - Yes.

I heard she will be at Always Inviting Palace today,

but I haven't seen her yet.

I see...

Is this... what Fourth Prince wants to give her?

I can give it to her.

- Well... - What? Don't you trust me?

It's not that. Fourth Prince gave special orders

to give it to Xiao Jia personally. Since she's not here, I'll take my leave.

Doesn't Fourth Prince trust me

or do you not trust me?

Nothing of that sort.

Then I'll ask you to give it to her.

- You must tell Miss Xiao Jia this is from Fourth Prince. - Yes.

Thank you.

Why is Miss Xiao Jia at Second Prince's place?

Second Prince.

Have a seat.

Second Prince, if you are looking for me, just tell me.

There's no need to… to get so many people involved.

Is this about my getting your clothes dirty that day? I apologize for that.

I have already thrown out those clothes.

Could it be because I accidentally burnt you that day?

Such a minor injury is no cause for concern.

In that case...

Eat this.

What is this?

I'm telling you to eat it.

What you've just eaten is the Death-in-7-days Pill.

As its name, if you don't get the antidote within seven days,

your intestines dissolve and you'll die.

Second Prince, I'm just a lowly servant.

If I angered you with my actions,

please be noble and forgive me.

As you go to Always Inviting Palace,

memorize daily the Crown Prince's needs

and report them to Xiao Shun Zi in seven days.

Then I will give you the antidote.

Your Highness, are you asking me to spy?

I really can't; I'll give myself away

- in a day. - After seven days,

Xiao Shun Zi will wait for you at Lotus Pond.

This block of ice isn't listening to me at all.

Aren't you afraid I'd tell Crown Prince when I leave here?

If you reveal our talk,

the first one I kill will be you!

I'm done! I just escaped the tiger's den, only to enter the wolf's mouth.

This game might as well be called “Double Spy Romance.”

- But I– - Miss Lu,

please.

Oh my.

Your Highness, I'm back.

Unfortunately, Miss Xiao Jia

didn't arrive at Always Inviting Palace yet so I gave the silk flowers to Miss Xin'er.

She said she would give them to Miss Xiao Jia when she arrives.

Later, at the entry to Exemplary Palace,

I saw Miss Xiao Jia held by guards.

I think the Second Prince...

- What is it? Finish your sentence. - He... he...

He invited her over.

You're Miss Lu, right? You're finally here.

How should I address you?

My surname is Rong. I'm an old servant at Always Inviting Palace.

Her surname is Rong... She seems a lot nicer than Matron Rong on TV.

Nice to meet you, Matron Rong.

Besides you from Medicine Department in charge of medicine,

there are also a few other

high-ranking maidservants from Food, Valuables, and Clothing Department.

From now on, you will all serve Crown Prince.

I will introduce you to them soon.

Sounds like that Wu Zi Xin takes care of his food.

If you encounter any difficulties at Always Inviting Palace, feel free to look for me.

Okay.

Fourth Brother? Such a rare visitor. What is this about?

Second Brother, I'll get straight to the point.

Where did you take Lu Ren Jia? What did you want with her?

It's personal.

I know you have no relationship with her so no personal matters are between you.

Even if you had a personal matter, don't forcibly take her in broad daylight, right?

You are meddling too much.

What are you going to do to her?

I have nothing to tell you.

Then let me remind you.

Punishing a court maid privately is against palace rules.

Did I hear wrong?

Is Playboy Fourth Prince now mentioning rules to me?

She can tell stories and learn to write in your palace,

but in my palace, is she punished?

Never mind, Second Brother, let's not discuss this.

Just tell me where she is right now.

Now she belongs to Always Inviting Palace.

Why didn't you look for her at Always Inviting Palace?

Why make a fuss at my place?

Thank you, Second Brother, I'll take my leave.

I won't see you out.

Your Highness, Miss Xiao Jia arrived safely at Always Inviting Palace.

Don't be nervous. Don't be nervous.

It could be a small animal looking for food.

It's Gui Zhi. It must be Gui Zhi.

"Gui Zhi"?

You mean the maidservant who used to administer Crown Prince's medication?

The Crown Prince's Yin energy is too strong.

Not long after Gui Zhi got promoted to administer his medication, she died suddenly.

Who knows, something dirty might be around here.

Don't say things like this about Crown Prince.

Are you courting death?

Gui Zhi died by drowning in a lake

after getting off work late.

My gosh, did you hear that? On the night Gui Zhi died,

they said she spilled the medicine Imperial Physician made for Crown Prince.

The next morning, she was found dead in the lake!

Just because she spilled the medicine?

Then... she died?

That's why I say her death was unusual.

That's why everyone says...

Look at that! That... that dark shadow!

I-I... see Gui Zhi!

It is Gui Zhi!

It seems work at Always Inviting Palace won't be easy either.

Your Highness, we're here.

What are you trying to do?

Lord Xu, why are you here?

Quick, stand up.

Here.

Look at me. Look at me.

What do you see?

I see... Lord Xu.

Have you ever thought

why you're here, when you're supposed to be entertaining His Majesty?

It seems your so-called friend

didn't tell you anything.

"My friend"? What do you mean?

Lu Ren Jia. Ever since she entered the palace,

she tried to get close to Fourth Prince and befriend Eleventh Prince.

Now she entered Crown Prince's Palace.

Can a normal maidservant do this?

Lord Xu, what are you trying to say?

She had to perform during the Birthday Banquet.

Why? Why did she push you forward?

Why is she trying to make you appear in front of His Majesty?

Do you think Her Majesty would turn a blind eye?

Her Majesty will only think

you have something planned, trying to climb the ladder.

That's not true! Anyway, I believe in Xiao Jia.

Stop defending her!

In this palace,

only I... only I

can help you. Understood?

Understood? [Cold Palace]

[Always Inviting Palace]

Your Highness, it's time for your medication.

Okay, got it.

You're Lu Ren Jia who's new here, right?

Do you still remember my name? Just call me Xiao Jia.

Miss Xiao Jia, thank you for saving my life.

It's because Your Highness is blessed. As for the nonsense I have spouted,

I thank you for your kindness and for saving me.

Miss Xiao Jia, why does the medication today

taste slightly different from those in the past?

This is Ginseng and Spikenard soup. It mainly treats Chi and Yin deficiency.

It's a common medication, please rest assured.

Since you said so,

I'll drink it without concern.

Your Highness, do you still remember a few months ago

that maid who had to run in the entire palace?

When she was almost out of breath, you saved her.

You even gave her some cakes.

The Crown Prince says to stop running.

Also, these are granted to you by Crown Prince.

Thank you. Thank you.

Of course, I remember. I also know,

you are that maidservant.

No need.

Miss Xiao Jia knows so much medication although she is so young.

You are a rare talent.

That day I saved you as I couldn't bear to see it.

I didn't think it would be part of our good fate today.

You flatter me. From now on,

I will do my best to brew medicine for Your Highness.

Eldest Brother, Xiao Jia, I'm here to play with you.

You came in such a hurry; what did you invent this time?

Eldest Brother.

It's unusual for Eleven to visit my palace. Are you here just for Xiao Jia?

No, I'm here to visit you

and Xiao Jia along the way.

Seems like Eleven

will visit Always Inviting Palace often in future.

Should I be happy

or sad?

I'm here.

Miss Lu,

you won't hate me, right?

I hate you, I hate you very much.

Look, you gave me such a large pill, yet you didn't give me any water. Do you want me to choke?

Miss Lu, you really know how to joke.

I'm not joking.

Later, go find Second Prince to ask him for the exact same pill and eat it with me.

All right, it's already late and getting dark.

I'll inform you of Crown Prince's meals the last 7 days

so your duty will be easier.

Thank you, Miss Lu.

[Pear Blossom Garden]

Bin.

The character is a combination of Wen and Wu.

Ah Wen said he had a brother

named Ah Wu—

Miss Xin'er.

What are you doing here?

You entered Always Inviting Palace by your excellent performance at Empress Dowager's birthday banquet.

I was too busy these past few days so I forgot to greet you.

No need for formality. From now on, I will also need your help. Thank you in advance.

This is for you.

Fourth Prince asked Xiao Bao to send me two silk flowers.

He said it was the latest style.

Now you and I work in the same place so we should take care of each other.

I'm giving you one of the flowers as a gift.

Thank you, Miss Xin'er.

I have other things to do so I'll get going.

This is a gift from Fourth Prince,

and I spoke truthfully of that.

Somebody come! Somebody come quickly!

Crown Prince is critically ill! Someone come quickly! Somebody come!

Hurry up. Hurry.

Someone come! Someone come quickly! Crown Prince is critically ill!

"Crown Prince"?

Stop arguing! Why isn't the Imperial Physician here?

Miss Lu! Miss Lu! Thank goodness you're here; come with me.

Something happened to Crown Prince! Make way, make way!

Let me tell you, when Crown Prince was eating dinner, he was fine,

then he suddenly... quickly!

[Morning Breeze, Elegant Charm]

Xiao Jia, wake up.

Xiao Jia.

Your Highness, you are finally awake. I was so worried.

This body of mine,

everyone knows I am seriously ill and in danger of dying quite often.

Don't say that.

Now, I am responsible for you so I must be responsible to the end.

Crown Prince, please don't worry.

Later, I will go examine the remains of the medicine you had yesterday.

Mister Jiu, could you also help me and ask

how His Highness' meal was arranged yesterday.

Yes.

Is there a problem?

I thought it over.

Your Highness' medicine was personally checked by me so there wouldn't be problems with it.

What if medicine's ingredients and the food were not compatible?

When I check it thoroughly, surely an answer will emerge. Your Highness, please don't worry.

Miss Yu.

Mister Jiu.

Are there any leftover food and medication that the Crown Prince had yesterday?

Reply to Mister Jiu, it's all been disposed.

Typically, the leftovers from daily meals are not kept until the next day.

Okay, you can go back to work.

Lord Li, please don't tell anyone My Highness' seeks the schisandra berry.

Xiao Shun Zi? What is he doing here?

Lord Li, please wait.

It's you, Miss Lu. You already administer medicine at Always Inviting Palace, right?

Congratulations, congratulations! What do you need from me today?

I just began my duties at Crown Prince's residence;

I need to know more of Crown Prince's medical history

so I wanted to check the medicine records.

Well... all right.

- Thank you. - Then I will get back to work.

[Kelp, Ginseng, Agarwood, Zhi Mu, Licorice, Schisandra berry, Clove]

"Agarwood,"

"Schisandra berry."

If it's used in normal medicine,

there should be no problems with this amount.

Nonsense. Why would Crown Prince suddenly faint for no good reason?

Someone must be trying to harm my Yu'er again.

Go and investigate all people who serve Crown Prince.

- I want a thorough investigation. - I will go at once.

Greetings, Second Prince.

How is my eldest brother now?

He woke up this morning and is fine now. Please don't worry, Second Prince.

Have you found out the reason?

Well... I'm still checking.

I believe we will have an answer soon.

You should stay and take care of him.

- All right. - This Ice Cube person usually keeps a poker face,

but he seems very concerned about Crown Prince.

It's really weird.

Are you all right?

Yes, I'm fine. Thank you, Dear.

What? Did you just call me "Dear"?

How can you say such a frivolous word so easily? [Like -1]

No, no, no. Second Prince, you must be mistaken.

This is just a polite expression unique to my hometown.

Wait a minute. Does this mean Zhao Chen Yi mistook me

for a frivolous woman at the very start?

Is that why he doesn't like me at all after all this time?

What's wrong?

I-I'm okay.

If Your Highness has nothing else,

I will go.

Lu Ren Jia, you are really easy to find.

Take a walk with me.

Matron, what do you need me for?

We'll talk when we get to Empress Dowager.

Greetings, Empress Dowager.

Lu Ren Jia.

Yes.

How dare you, a lowly servant girl, plot to kill Crown Prince?

I was wronged. Even if I had the courage to do so,

- I would never harm Crown Prince! - Then...

do you know what a Schisandra berry is?

"Schisandra berry"? Yes, I do.

In the Essential Formulas medical text,

the Schisandra berry treats heat damage to vital energy,

dry mouth, thirst, excessive sweating

or liquid heat in the fire element (heart, small intestine) that creates the gold element (lungs, large intestine).

You are really well versed in medical knowledge.

Then I'm sure you're well aware that

this medicine alone can still strengthen the heart and protect the liver.

If it is added in excess elsewhere, it becomes poison.

Crown Prince was critically ill after he took this medicine by mistake.

Usually, Crown Prince's medicine is prepared by you.

How can you get away with this?

- I was wronged! Empress Dowager, please look into it. - How dare you not admit mistakes?

Come on, take her to Department of Internal Punishment.

I was wronged! I was wronged, Empress Dowager!

I was wronged!

Your Highness, bad news! Bad news, Your Highness!

What is it? You're so flustered; it's a disgrace.

The day... night before yesterday, Crown Prince was critically ill.

When he woke up, news reached Forever Peaceful Palace. Empress Dowager was very angry.

She said she wanted to check the matter. Miss Xiao Jia

seems to be involved and was taken by Department of Internal Punishment.

- "The Department of Internal Punishment"? - Yes.

Did you find out what this is about?

They said a mistake was in Crown Prince's medicine.

Miss Jia is responsible for the medicine and has medical knowledge

so Empress Dowager suspected her instantly.

At first, I thought Always Inviting Palace could keep her safe.

After all planning and facts,

I didn't expect this to happen.

What should we do?

My dear child, don't get up.

With Grandmother around, don't be scared.

I'm fine now.

You came personally to visit me over such a small illness.

I feel bad.

I have caught the person

who secretly tampered with your medicine.

Who is it?

Your Highness, please let me report.

Residue of Schisandra berry was on the silk flower

that belongs to a maid, Lu Ren Jia.

The Schisandra berry is normally known for its heart-strengthening, liver-protecting properties.

But in excess in other medicines,

it can be poison.

Miss Lu first sent His Highness a heart-protection medicine,

highly praised by Imperial Physician Sun.

Then His Highness recommended her for promotion.

Why would she return kindness with enmity?

My wife, you are right. Grandmother,

Xiao Jia served me many days in Always Inviting Palace.

She was always meticulous and dedicated.

I don't believe she is the malicious one causing harm.

Moreover, if she intended to harm me,

why did she come to my rescue

when I was in danger last time?

Perhaps her silk flower just happened to be tainted with herbs.

You're just too kindhearted.

You don't want to think of people in a bad light.

Grandmother, I sincerely plead with you

not to hurt Xiao Jia

until the matter is cleared up.

This happened.

This method of steeping schisandra berries in water is excellent.

Congratulations to Your Highness for finally getting a good night's sleep.

By the way, how is the investigation into Eldest Brother's illness?

The scouts reported that people sent by the Empress Dowager found evidence.

- It's Miss Lu's silk flower. - What?

M-Miss Lu is now imprisoned in Department of Internal Punishment.

Your Highness, Miss Lu worked for you all this time. Even if she has no meritorious deed,

she has done hard work.

Empress Dowager, what is this lady's intention?

Why did she save the Crown Prince before,

and now tries to harm him?

I knew from the start

that she is just a scapegoat.

This child seems to be a good person.

If she really wanted to harm the Crown Prince,

how could she have left such obvious evidence?

I just can't stop worrying.

Why did you send her to jail, Empress Dowager?

If those behind the crime do not let down their guard,

how can they make a mistake

for me to catch them?

Empress Dowager, you are wise.

I would rather have peace in the palace.

Then I can be an old lady who enjoys old age peacefully,

and plays happily with her grandchildren.

Unfortunately, too many people have ill intentions.

This time, they are even plotting against Crown Prince.

If you are worried about her being disloyal to the Crown Prince,

you can get rid of her like Gui Zhi.

It's better to lock her up for the time being.

Let's wait until the matter is clearly investigated then deal with it.

[Schisandra berry]

[Medical Records]

The amount of Schisandra berry used in Always Inviting Palace should be fine.

Exemplary Palace. [Wolfberry, Fu Shen, Walnut, Fennel, Cyperus, Nut Grass, Seahorse, Notoginseng, Schisandra Berry, Wild Ginger, Amomum Fruit, Sichuan Fritillaria]

Later, I saw Miss Xiao Jia held by guards.

It seems the Second Prince...

- What is it? - He invited her over.

Second Brother.

Zhao Chen Yao!

Old Four?

Fourth brother, you don't usually show yourself.

I didn't think your martial arts skills were that good.

Why do you want to harm her?

I don't know what you mean.

If you hadn't forced her to do that,

would she have done it?

Do what?

You are behind Eldest Brother's tampered medicine, right?

She is now considered guilty of harming Crown Prince.

She is in Department of Internal Punishment; we have no more news,

yet you're not worried at all.

This matter has nothing to do with me.

You are lying.

A high dosage of schisandra berry was in brother's medicine.

You took the medicine from Exemplary Palace

and forced her to put it into Eldest Brother's medicine.

Fourth Prince, you misunderstood.

Master did send me to get schisandra berries,

but it was his sleeping treatment.

- Now with seasonal change, Second Prince often— - No need to explain.

- Send the guest away. - You—

Fourth Prince, this way, please.

Grandmother, please be kind and spare Lu Ren Jia.

You are getting more undisciplined.

You are a royal prince, yet you plead for a lowly maid.

Besides, she is a suspect in poisoning your Eldest Brother.

Grandmother, I spent much time with Lu Ren Jia.

I don't believe she could poison Eldest Brother.

She flattered you only a few days.

How can you vouch for her character?

You didn't compete in anything all these years,

and you hid from everything.

Now, you are rushing forward for a palace maid?

Why can't you retain your composure?

Rumor says Eldest Brother overdosed on medicine and got sick.

If Lu Ren Jia really did it, she could have stood by and not saved Eldest Brother.

But she still saved Eldest Brother without hesitation.

Grandmother, please investigate this case clearly.

Actually, Crown Prince and Crown Princess

came in the past few days to beg me for mercy.

They guarantee Lu Ren Jia is not the culprit.

Since the matter is still questionable,

we will examine it more carefully.

- Ask the Department of Internal Punishment to release her. - Understood.

Thank you, Grandmother. I will leave first.

Empress Dowager, something really puzzles me.

If this Lu Ren Jia is still a suspect, why let her go so easily?

Earlier, Lord Xu said this lady is close to Fourth Prince.

He feared she would not be loyal to Crown Prince.

Before today, I still doubted a trace bit.

I suspected Old Four masterminded Lu Ren Jia to poison Yu'er,

but now I have no suspicions at all.

If it really was Old Four, he would avoid arousing suspicion.

He certainly wouldn't lose composure and plead with me.

Empress Dowager's words are right.

Do you know where Old Four went

- before he stepped into Always Inviting Palace? - Please tell me.

He actually went to Exemplary Palace himself

and surprisingly fought with Old Two

for Lu Ren Jia's matter.

Perhaps Old Two is involved in this.

I see.

Reporting.

Empress Dowager, Eleventh Prince requests an audience.

Grandmother.

I've come to pay my respects. Grandmother,

are you feeling well, sleeping well, and eating well lately?

I'm all fine.

These are new pastries I got today.

I brought them especially for you to try.

Xuan'er, if you're here to plead for Lu Ren Jia, you don't have to.

Oh, Grandmother, please don't kill Xiao Jia.

Grandmother, Xiao Jia didn't do anything worth death. Please let her go.

You are my dearest, dearest grandmother. Grandmother, I'm begging you. Grandmother.

I already told them to release her.

Have you already released Xiao Jia?

Then... then I will return another day to pay my respects.

Another one who won't grow up.

This girl has many skills.

So many people plead for her.

If it is true someone intentionally framed her,

then all the more reason for her to assist Yu'er.
