[Warm on a Cold Night]

[Episode 4]

The strangest thing in this case

is

the motives

the murderer

has.

If he wants to complete the nursery rhythm,

he can just simply

murder four Qian people.

There's no need

to target these four lords?

It seemed that the four lords

rarely had personal ties while they were all officials.

But do you know?

The four lords came to

Shuobei Tavern every month

on the same day

at the same time.

In other words,

they went together

and disappeared together.

This place is indeed very suspicious.

And strangely,

four bodies

Only on the thumbs of three bodies

had traces of wearing a thumb ring

for a long time.

But the last person who died

had nothing.

What are you so proud of?

Am I sincere enough?

Is this information useful?

Why don't you just say

you are afraid of being killed

and you need my protection?

Then why can't you

believe that

I just want to

be friends with you?

How about this?

If you can keep me alive,

I'll recite the rest of the files

for you.

Also, I'll give you

a real pass.

What do you think?

I'll think about it.

Keha, see her out.

Young Master Han.

You...

Didn't you hear him?

Go, go, go.

Young Master Han.

Let's go.

-Tomorrow noon. -Go.

-On the footbridge of Huaide Workshop. -Let's go.

See you there.

Let me tell you.

The hedgehog you gave

is really delicious.

You can't eat for free.

You have to come.

Just go.

Your Highness.

I chased her away.

Your Highness.

You seem to disagree verbally,

but I can tell

you've made up your mind,

right?

Shut up.

Can't you see me considering?

Your Highness.

What are you considering?

Think about it.

The women of the state of Qian

are much more delicate

than women in the state of Qi.

Even if she likes you,

she can't beat you.

And she can't

make things cannot be undone

like men of the Cangqi tribe,

right?

So I think

Your Highness is safe.

Huaide Workshop.

Look at the rope.

Young Master Han.

You're finally here.

You have no idea

how long I've been waiting here.

Are you stupid?

It's so early.

No one would go to a dance tavern

to have fun.

Let's go.

Can you wait for me?

Slow down a bit.

I've been waiting for you for so long.

I'm tired.

No way.

I'm starting to feel dizzy.

If I don't touch him,

I'll lose all my energy

when investigating the case.

I need to think of a way.

Sugar people!

God is on my side.

Boss.

Give me one.

Okay.

Here.

Thank you.

Aren't you going to investigate a case?

This is no time

for you to buy this.

Before this, I didn't understand

your rules

and offended you.

To cheer you up,

I'll give you our most delicious

local specialty.

Consider it as

a token of apology to you.

You must try it.

Young Master Han.

This is very delicious.

Try it. It's very delicious.

There is no delicacy in the state of Qian.

This is really delicious.

Hurry up.

Hold it.

No.

Is it too sticky?

Don't move.

I'll handle it for you.

It'll get stickier if you do it.

No.

Did you do it on purpose?

I didn't mean it.

I really want to

give you a taste

and apologize.

The world is getting worse.

It's in a state of disorder.

She doesn't love a Qian,

but flirts with a Qi man.

So disgraceful.

Nothing.

Leave him alone.

Leave him alone.

[Shuobei Dance Tavern]

When will they come?

Yeah.

Your work is beautiful.

They should be here soon.

Su Jiu'er.

What are they doing?

Excuse me.

Excuse me.

Stop pushing.

There are indeed some

who love Qi people.

Be careful.

This is only the minority.

Qi people are generally tall and strong.

And they look

really

more manly

than men here.

Shallow.

However,

they are only attractive

to these unsophisticated girls.

I see.

No.

Why are you looking at me like that?

I don't like Qi people.

Don't get me wrong

I really don't like Qi people.

Without a token,

you aren't allowed to enter.

Please come in.

You are a newcomer with no token.

I... He and I...

Young Master Han.

Are you planning to leave me behind?

Dear Han.

What did you call me?

Please don't be mad at me anymore.

I was wrong.

I promise. I swear.

I will never glance at

other boys anymore.

Can you stop being angry?

Sorry, I was wrong.

I do have the token.

I do.

I promise

you will be the only one

in my heart and sight.

What a Qian-Qi couple!

It's so big here.

Look at the floor.

It shines with every step you make.

People always say that women from the Qian race are very reserved.

Why can't I

see it in you?

I

have no choice.

But we're in trouble now.

Since we came in

with this kind of identity,

we have to

continue to play the role of lovers.

Or else, if others find out,

they'll know something's wrong with us.

And that means

I can touch you

as I wish.

But you look happy.

No.

Actually, I'm sad too.

I also feel wronged.

You can't tell anyone about this.

Keep it a secret.

I wish I could get married in the future.

The Qi race has a lifespan of hundreds of years,

but we can only choose one partner in our lives.

Do you think they will believe

the smart and handsome I

would fall for you?

What's wrong with...

Let's say

if I can make them believe

that you choose me blindly,

then you'll agree

to be my partner, okay?

Let go.

You are so loved-up.

Come in, please.

Is she a Qian?

Yes.

Look at them.

Why is a Qian here?

Exactly.

What's wrong with being a Qian?

Why is this place so dark?

I can't even see the way.

Why is she with a Qi man?

It's strange.

It won't last long.

Don't you

entertain Qian people here?

Not many.

Besides, this is not a place

you can come to just with money.

Please sit upstairs.

Let's continue drinking.

The dishes are ready.

Please enjoy.

But

we haven't ordered yet.

In Qi's taverns,

guests don't need to order wine.

Each tavern has its own special menu.

You drink whatever they serve.

Where should we start

with this grande dance tavern?

How would I know?

You begged me to come.

Besides,

I know very little about this case.

You've been hiding it from me,

and you don't want to reveal everything.

Cooperation?

I really believed you.

I haven't caught

good timing before this.

I'll tell you now.

What are you doing?

Come closer to me.

There are all Qi people down there.

They'll hear

the secrets we're talking about

very clearly.

Great.

We can pretend to be lovey-dovey.

What?

Listen carefully.

In the 33rd year of Dingkun,

on March 16.

The banquet at the Zhang Residence

invited four dancing girls

from Shuobei Dance Tavern

to entertain the guests.

The four lords went missing together that night.

The servants in the Zhang Residence said,

the four dancers left at 7 o'clock.

While the four lords were abducted

around 9 o'clock.

At 9 o'clock,

four dancers

had returned to the dance tavern.

So they are not suspects.

Look

at them.

I've done an investigation into them.

The four lords

seemed to be on bad terms,

but they were actually very close.

They came to Shuobei Dance Tavern

every month.

I wonder

what the death of these four lords

has to do

with this place.

What are you doing?

Let go of our boss!

You're skillful in martial arts.

I've been in Jiuxiao City for so many years

and I've never heard of you.

May I know

which tribe are you from?

You don't need to know.

Interesting.

Such a rebellious man

is married

to a Qian.

Shut up.

Don't be nervous.

I just want to invite

this little Qian girl

to come over and ask a question.

Why don't we have a deal?

I'll ask Da to let her go.

You

make me feel better.

What do you think?

Dear Han.

-Are you okay? -Everyone.

It's a misunderstanding.

Enjoy yourselves.

All the drinks tonight

are free.

Thank you, Young Master Baiyin.

Da.

Young Master Baiyin, I appreciate your generosity.

Make a pot of tea.

Here, Lord Zhang.

Please.

The moment you arrived,

I knew someone

had entered here

with Lord Zhang's thumb ring.

It's just that I've been observing for a long time

and couldn't find out who you are.

So,

I would like to

ask this girl something.

Judging from your tone,

do you know Lord Zhang Yunhe?

I'm a Qi,

wandering alone in a foreign country.

All these years,

thanks to Lord Zhang's help.

He and I

are good friends despite the great difference in age.

Friends despite the great difference in age?

But he looks like

he's only in his thirties.

I'm

83 years old this year.

83?

If so, the one next to me

might also be an old monster.

As a Qi,

you treat the Qian nobles as your confidant.

It seems that

you don't like Qian people very much.

Then why do you have

such a cute

Qian girlfriend?

How can you tell

I'm her lover?

Why did you...

Since you aren't the one who brought her in,

I have to ask her out then.

Sure.

No, no, no.

Sir,

That's how he is.

He's always fierce

and he's been arguing with me lately.

But he's actually a very nice person.

Right?

Oh yeah.

From what you said,

Lord Zhang

should be one

who won't regard the Qi race

as a foreign race.

That's why you gave him the thumb ring

so that he could come to Shuobei Dance Tavern.

You are quite smart.

You've asked everything you want to know.

But

who are you?

Why do you have Lord Zhang's thumb ring

in your hands?

I'm Su Jiu'er, an inspector of the Inspection Bureau.

I see, you're from Inspection Bureau.

Since the Nursery Crime Case happened,

you people have come here

over and over again.

After investigating,

nothing was found.

Instead,

you treated my dancers

as the suspects,

wasting your time.

That's because

I wasn't

involved in the case at that moment.

By the way,

I have another question.

When the four lords

came here every month,

were they really coming for the performance?

Of course not.

The four lords

are our regular guests.

They didn't come here

to drink and have fun,

but to avoid

the spy of the Anti-Qi Party.

Of course,

they would ask me

the life status of Qi people

in Jiuxiao City.

On the day he went missing,

Lord Zhang

also asked for the dancers from me.

The sedan chairs of Zhang Residence

took them away at 5 o'clock

and sent them back on time at 9 o'clock.

The dancers

also didn't find anything unusual.

In this case,

the four of them

were in the Pro-Qi Party in the Imperial Court of the state of Qian.

Pro-Qi Party?

There are two parties in the Imperial Court of the state of Qian.

One hopes that Qian and Qi

can live in peace.

While another one hates the Qi race,

hoping to draw a clear line.

How do you know so much?

You are the ignorant one.

Can't you let me be more knowledgeable than you?

How am I ignorant?

I know the Qian race

better than you.

It seems that

you two feel like

a Qian-Qi couple.

Which eye did you see that?

Why do things become

more and more strange?

If these four lords

are from the Pro-Qi Party,

why would a Qi

come after them?

I know.

Maybe the murderer isn't...

Wait.

If the murderer is not a Qi,

that means

it may not be the three-scar man.

Does that mean he'll wash his hands of the activity?

Are you suspecting

the murderer

is not a Qi

because Qi won't kill people from Pro-Qi Party?

Can you people read minds too?

Not only can I investigate this case,

but also tell you now.

I smell a rat in this case.

Why?

I have come with you.

You should recite the file to me.

Why are you cheating?

We agreed to exchange information.

I promise you

to come here with you

and keep you safe.

You just need to contribute your brain power.

I don't care.

Tell me what's fishy.

So that we can be good partners.

Who is your partner?

Today, we...

No, you...

You...

What happened to my hand?

Did Master poison me?

Look.

What poison?

This is a special spice

of the Qi race.

It can absorb into the skin

and help Qi relax.

A dance tavern uses this

means it treats the guests well.

It shines in the dark,

and can last for months.

It's just a spice from the Qi race.

Don't be surprised.

I see.

Young Master Han.

Our partnership today

went well.

How about this?

Let's have a high-five farewell.

Tomorrow, you tell me what's fishy.

I'll recite the file for you

and start a new day.

Okay?

It's getting late.

High five tomorrow then.

See you tomorrow.

Mother of Jiu'er.

Is Jiu'er home?

No, she isn't.

I don't know where she has been

at this hour.

Why are you looking for her?

I'm just dropping in to visit her.

I brought you a gift too.

What is it?

Don't keep me guessing.

Red Stone Centipede and Golden Scorpion.

Do you like them?

Where did you get it?

This is a treasure.

I knew you'd like it.

A few days ago,

I dug them for you

when I was performing my official duties.

These two are poisonous.

Were you hurt?

No.

Why should I be afraid of it?

I'll get you a bottle of medicine.

It's for detoxification.

Thank you.

Remember to eat it

when you dig it next time.

By the way,

dig up some Black-tailed Centipedes.

That thing is highly poisonous

but it's very precious.

But after taking this medicine,

you won't die even if you're stung.

[Inspection Bureau]

There's no hidden pattern.

I knew it.

The other three lords

had signs of wearing a thumb ring.

But he didn't.

This means

this is not

Lord Zhang's body.

It was changed

and disguised as Lord Zhang.

That's not right.

This is even stranger.

The murderer abducted four lords

and insisted on matching with the nursery rhythm of the Qi race.

Why did

a non-related body

suddenly appear?

You aren't

as stupid as you look.

You...

Why are you here?

After you found out the dark pattern,

you noticed something was wrong with the body.

So you left me

and came here for an autopsy,

right?

I...

Young Master Han.

You misunderstood.

Previously, you pretended to be the three-scar Qi

and made a scene in Inspection Bureau.

So that everyone

remembers you.

If they know

I work with a Qi,

there would be

unnecessary trouble.

Since you think it's troublesome,

why do you want to

be my partner?

Because I trust you.

You, as an inspector of Inspection Bureau,

would believe

a man

who made a scene at Inspection Bureau?

I...

Young Master Han.

Master Han.

Please go back first.

I'll explain it to you tomorrow.

Okay?

Don't let others find out.

If they find out we are together,

I will lose my job.

At that point, you won't have

any convenience in the investigation.

Young Master Han.

Do you think I'm a baby

whose teeth are not yet complete?

You...

-Put me down first. -Stop bluffing.

Put me down first.

Oh no.

It's happening again.

Young Master Han.

What are you doing?

You keep saying

we are partners.

But you refused

my request again and again.

The only thing you like is high-fives.

What are you up to?

I'm innocent.

I really didn't.

Did the old man send you here?

Where do I

know an old man?

I'm partnering with you

only to solve the case.

Put me down.

You're still telling lies, aren't you?

Please.

Fine.

Let me tell you the truth.

Okay?

Actually,

when I was young,

I had a weird disease.

I will be weak from time to time

and lose all my senses.

But every time

I touch you,

I can regain my strength.

Come here.

Let me touch you.

-I beg you. -This is no time

for you to make up stories.

What is all that about? Loss of five senses

and having a weird illness.

I think

you are a licentious Qian

who makes up stories

and coaxes the Qi people.

I'm really not.

It's fine.

I think I left it in the coroner's room.

Wait for me.

Oh no.

They must be back.

Come over quickly, so that I can touch you.

Don't push your luck.

Okay?

Oh no, I'm still wearing gloves.

I...

Stay here.

Please leave now, okay?

If they find out,

I'll lose my job.

What does it have to do with me?

I can still investigate the case without you.

-And... -Lower your voice.

Don't even think about...

What...

What's going on?

What should I do?

I just want you to shut up.

-You scared me. -Daren.

You're still here at this hour?

By the way,

the Commander has ordered that

the bodies of the four lords

are important evidence.

Nothing must go wrong.

What's wrong?

Is there something wrong with this body?

Not this.

That is

the one with a problem.

This one.

Let me see.

You scared me.

What's the problem?

Girl,

if you have any new clues,

just tell me.

I know you are very smart.

You've been weak since childhood.

You have to hide your strength.

Right?

Is this girl

really sick

and has lost her five senses?

There are only six days left to investigate the case.

Why waste your time

here?

In my opinion,

we can work together.

I can talk

with the Commander.

With your brain power

and my connections,

we arrest the three-scar Qi together.

You can guarantee the job,

and I'll get the reward.

It's a win-win situation.

Stop.

Stop, Daren.

These are not important.

Take a look at this body.

The wound is dark purple.

There were few traces of bleeding.

It's more like a wound

after death.

I'm afraid the murderer

wanted to frame Qi people.

So the murderer is very likely

not the Qi with three scars.

That's not important.

My point is,

do you want to solve the case

or keep the job?

So you mean...

One, two, three, four.

All four bodies are here.

There won't be any new victims.

Qian and Qi are now having endless conflicts.

The Qi race wants to implement Qian-Qi Six Treaties.

Right?

And the Qian race

wants to get the goods on the Qi race.

At this time,

three-scar Qi appears.

Both sides support you to catch him,

bringing him to justice,

closing this case,

and putting the blame on Qi.

Why not?

How can you do that?

Lie down.

I am kindly

reminding you.

You keep your job

and work with me.

Doesn't it sound good?

But Daren,

I'm an inspector.

I pursue the truth,

not convenience.

Even if there is truth,

can you reveal it to the public?

Fine.

Go ahead if you want to.

After all, wait until you've figured it out,

your uniform will not be

valid long.

[Inspection Bureau]

Brother.

I'm sorry.

I had no choice.

I'm sorry, brother.

I'm sorry.

What's wrong with your illness?

I...

Actually, I don't know.

They said I wouldn't live long.

Thanks to my mother insisting on medicine,

to keep me alive.

But it's really strange.

Every time I touch you,

I feel

very warm.

It's like I've recovered.

So you want to

stick with me

instead of finding out the truth?

Don't you frame me.

Although I touch you,

the sun and the moon

can be witnesses of me wanting to find the truth.

I am an inspector.

My father told me

we are ordinary people.

We can't control many things.

We can only do our job well.

Since I'm an inspector,

my duty is to find out the truth.

Fine.

Then find out the truth.

And I'll be responsible

to reveal the truth to the public.

These four bodies

have wounds

from the same angle

and the same depth.

That's right.

It's so precise, unlike real claws.

It's more like

a heavy tool.

Besides,

most of them are post-death injuries.

Yes.

You, Qian people, don't know much

about Qi people.

You've also seen fewer wounds.

When you see blood blurry,

you assume

it must be done by the shapeshifted Qi.

So

you knew

the murderer wasn't Qi?

I arrived half an hour

earlier than you.

Half an hour?

So you'd been

hiding behind

and laughing at me.

It's because you

hid your strange illness from me.

There are so many Qi people,

but you were only pestering me

and kept touching me.

I even thought

you favored Qi men.

Even if I like a Qi man,

it won't be you.

Let me think about it.

If I want to look for

someone in Jiuxiao City,

I do need

a more reliable partner.

Do you mean

I'm reliable?

You're thinking too much.

Is it your martial art

or your brain

that makes you qualified to be my partner?

I just pity you

because you're weak and sick.

Now, you even ask me

for protection.

I was born

with strength.

It's a piece of cake

to protect you.

I will prove that

I can be

a good partner.

Wait.

If you want to be my partner,

you have to promise me three conditions.

What three conditions?

First,

before you get fired,

make me

a real pass.

Second,

without my permission,

don't molest me.

I was treating my illness.

It's health and longevity.

What sexual harassment?

Third,

you have to recite the files for me.

And in the future,

you need to listen to me.

If you agree,

give me your hand.

From now on,

we are

good partners.

But my good partner,

I have one more thing

to ask you.

Go ahead.

Since the murderer is not a Qi,

the three-scar Qi man

who pushed me from the tower

must not be in cahoots

with the real murderer.

Otherwise, why did he use

a fake weapon?

It is easier if he directly asked the Qi

to kill

all four lords.

That's what I don't understand.

Anyway,

the motive of this case

is very clear.

Someone

wanted to use the nursery rhythm

to frame the Qi race.

His purpose

is to sow discord

between Qian and Qi.

But

I have a new discovery.

What is it?

Do you want to know

who was the identity

of this body

which replaced Lord Zhang?

the motive of this case

is very clear.

Someone

wanted to use the nursery rhythm

to frame the Qi race.

His purpose

is to sow discord

between Qian and Qi.

Here.

Here.

Let's call it a day.

Go back now.

Your father's troops

are coming soon.

So what?

If he dares to hurt you again,

I'll fight him.

Listen.

My father died in the arena.

He is the supreme honor of the Qi race.

It's not shameful.

But the Xuanqi tribe

was gone.

The Qi race

now belongs to you, the Xueqi tribe.

I don't want it.

Calm down.

Leaving the crowd

can make people calm and sober

and not controlled by your emotions.

Your father

wants to work with the Qian people.

But I know

no matter what changes

between the Qi race,

the Qian race is not our bright future.

Qian people are cunning and cowardly.

They don't deserve to work with us.

Come back with me.

I will find a way to protect you.

If that old man

wants to hurt you,

I will definitely be on your side.

I swear.

But I want you to calm down.

Hanzheng.

You are the future of the Qi race.

In the future,

we will achieve something big for the Qi race.

I'll wait for you.

Muyan!

Muyan!

Muyan!

Muyan!

Is it really you

stirring up troubles

between Qian and Qi?

[He'an Hall]

Eat.

Dig in.

Physician Qin.

Why are you hiding it?

All these years,

you must have

the secret to immortality.

That crazy girl.

There is no such medicine in this world.

Forget it.

What time is it now?

Why isn't she back yet?

Did she faint somewhere?

No.

I have to find her.

Rest assured and stay here.

Jiu'er

has recently met the elixir.

She couldn't faint.

Maybe she's cultivating elixirs.

Physician Qin,

leave the secret recipe to me.

I'm the one who needs it.

You crazy girl.

What nonsense are you talking about?

I need to watch over my medicine.

Physician Qin.

Physician Qin!

Stop shouting.

If you scream again,

all the male cats nearby will gather here.

Thank you, girl.

I'll buy you a drink next time.

Uncle Hu.

Why don't you come in through the door

but want me to send Physician Qin away

and help you climb the wall?

I can't see her.

That silly Jiu'er

has been disappearing all day.

What if her mother asks me

where she went,

and I can't answer?

I have to catch her.

How dare she stays out all night?

Take your time.

I'm going to bed.

I heard everything just now.

What did you say?

Met with what elixir?

That's...

What is it?

Jiu'er doesn't allow me to tell Physician Qin.

You can't tell her,

but you can tell me. Go ahead.

Have you noticed

Jiu'er hasn't fainted for a long time?

It's true.

She hasn't fainted much recently.

What's wrong?

She knows a Qi man.

Once she touches him...

Move your hands away.

She will recover.

So,

I think

she is curing her illness.

A Qi?

Touching him can cure the disease?

Yes.

He knows shapeshifting.

He's tall.

A man.

She said,

she regains her energy once touching the man.

It's more effective than medicine.

Nonsense.

Even I, Hu Badao,

can't believe it.

It's real.

That girl just

made up a story

to fool you,

a heartless silly girl.

She went to investigate the case.

Uncle Hu.

You don't understand women.

Investigating a case?

How could she not bring you along?

There is only one thing in this world

that Godfather can't be brought along.

What is it?

Dating.

You're all here.

What?

Your Highness.

Are you working collaboratively with that inspector?

Yes.

Didn't you tell me

that in Jiuxiao City,

I need someone to work together?

No.

You were against it yesterday.

Why did you agree today?

What did she do to you?

She...

What can she do?

It's just that

I got the goods on her

and took the initiative.

Now,

I've controlled her

in my hand.

Well,

what if she

has other thoughts about you?

I've never been afraid.

Right?

He agreed to

be your partner

because he pitied you.

Did anything else

happen?

No, no.

He's just

a partner to me.

Do you think

you can fool me with those words?

I'm telling the truth.

I know.

I'm old.

You don't want to

share your thoughts now.

You only talk to some flowers

and grasses.

Godfather,

I didn't want you to worry.

But, Hu,

Hanzheng

is really incredible.

Look.

I have no bone identification experience.

But he could tell

that body

seems to be in his prime.

He's about the same age

as Lord Zhang.

But his knee

has wounds with a degree of wear

up to 40 or 50 years.

But Lord Zhang

is only 39 years old.

What does this mean?

It means this body

is a Qi man.

What the hell?

Why is there another Qi man?

Besides,

if we deduce with the time of death,

among all the victims,

this Qi man died first.

But he was thrown out in the end.

So I think

his identity

should be the key to solving the case.
