* Yeaaaaaaah *
Oh! Whoo!
* I get a feeling that *
* I never, never, never *
Whoo-hoo-hoo! * Never had before *
* No, no *
I don't know how you're gonna choose.
Good luck. [ Niall laughs ]
* It's gonna be my day *
Chance's team is really strong.
My team is stacked. Whoo!
Team Blake are on fire. Oh, my God.
You come out and you put on one of the best
performances we've seen on this show. Yes!
* It's gonna be my day *
Kelly: This is a hard thing for the coaches
'cause we have five people and you can only choose two
to move forward to the live semifinals.
Daly: Blake, are you ready?
No, I'm nervous.
That is super "Hunger Games."
Why is it so hard for me?
Semifinals are coming up next.
And the fact that we don't get a steal,
the fact that there's no pass or anything.
I've got goosebumps as I'm saying it right now.
Puts the pressure on all of the artists and their performances.
I think you got to move him forward.
It's my show, so you have to do what I say, so...
So I have to do what -- Alright.
Yeah, go ahead and mark it down, yeah.
America, it's up to you next.
* It's time to rise up *
Kelly: We have the Playoff Pass people coming in
that weren't there for the knockout rounds.
So it's becoming this incredible like mini finale.
* It's gonna be my day *
I feel like we're seeing "Voice" history.
We're seeing Blake Shelton's last ever decisions.
Let's hope they're good ones.
I would have quit a season before
had I known how bad this sucks.
[ Laughter ] * It's gonna be my day *
Daly: Good luck to you tonight.
Blake: Thank you.
Yeah!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Good luck tonight.
Perfect. Thanks, man.
Daly: Alright. We got a big night.
Here's how this is gonna work. Let's break it down.
Team Blake and Team Chance
will be taking turns performing on the stage.
At the end of the night, Blake and Chance
both are gonna have very difficult decisions to make.
They each can only pick two of their artists
to represent them in the live semifinals.
So I'm sure they're dreading that.
Chance, this is your first playoffs.
What was it like to prepare the team for tonight?
It was kinda easy, to be honest.
[ Laughter ] My team is fire.
Well, we're looking forward to it. Good luck to you.
And, Blake, this is your last playoffs.
How are you feeling about that?
And how's your team looking for tonight?
Well, better than Chance, I think.
Did you say everybody on your team is --
Everybody's fired? [ Laughter ]
Oh, my God, man,
that's a terrible attitude to have.
You gotta pick two of them at least.
Fire, Blake, fire.
Do I go tonight?
Oh, my God. Yes, yes.
Uh, I'm ready. Looks like it.
Any thoughts at your last playoffs?
It sucks, man. It sucks.
These decisions are tough,
and it's sad that this is the last playoffs
I'll ever get to do.
But, you know, Kelly got me fired.
[ Laughter ] A-And it's time to find out...
Oh, my God. ...what's next in line.
It is a night packed with performances.
We can waste no more time. Let's get to it
and see how our first artist prepared for tonight.
Blake. What are you doing, buddy?
I'm ready to rock out.
* I put a spell on you *
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Kelly: NOIVAS becomes this whole character when he's onstage,
and it's hard to not gravitate towards that.
Your talent is fearless.
I'm proud of NOIVAS.
You know, he's former Team Chance.
That boy an actor.
People like NOIVAS -- That's a star.
Blake: NOIVAS' bread and butter is getting out on that stage
and just taking over the room.
He's just got a cool factor about him.
NOIVAS is my ultimate entertainer.
NOIVAS: For playoffs, I'm singing "Come Together,"
which is a staple in rock.
* Here come old flat-top *
* He come grooving up slowly *
Blake: The fun thing about NOIVAS is that he comes in
looking like a rancher from Texas.
* Come together *
Blake: But then he performs these soulful rock songs.
* Over me *
He can hit these big notes. He can hit them with power.
* Yeah, yeah, yeah *
And this song gives him the opportunity
to do all those things.
When you do the super high head voice,
you've got so much energy.
Sometimes they just go
a little bit past the note. Got it.
But everything else is so good, dude,
and it's just fun.
I can tell you're having a blast,
so congratulations.
If NOIVAS can just get the wildness under control,
this is gonna be another killer performance.
Thank you for seeing something in me.
I really wanted to work with you
because I felt like we had a lot in common.
I mean, not only the fact that we're both two tall guys...
[ Chuckles ] ...you know, pretty good-looking,
if I -- if I say so myself. Extremely.
Extremely good-looking, yeah. You know? [ Chuckles ]
And even the fact that we both lost brothers.
How old were you when you lost your brother?
21.
I was 14.
NOIVAS: My brother passed away in 2013.
He was always the person that you looked up to.
He was a physical therapist. He was a great father.
The last thing he told me was to do me.
Before my brother passed away, I was very quiet.
It wasn't until I lost my brother
that I started to become fearless.
And this is a big song, and I'm not afraid.
My brother, he would've freaked out
if he could have known what I went on to do
'cause he was just such a huge music fan.
You'd hear him coming six blocks away,
the stereo blaring out of his truck, so... That's awesome.
That's cool your brother got to see you do it.
If Alfred was still here, he would be happy
that I followed the words that he taught me --
Just do you.
And I'm gonna take that into every performance.
We're going from five to two. It's gonna be a tough day.
I'm up for the challenge, though.
I came here with the intention of getting to the lives.
And I'm gonna leave it all there on the stage.
**
Blake.
Mr. The Rapper.
Good luck to you.
You too.
Bad luck to you.
You're going the wrong way.
Alright. [ Laughs ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
He's got a mic stand again. Y'all watch out.
Not even with the stick.
Blake: What's he got, a walking stick?
Oh, his mic. Oh, okay.
With "Come Together," here is NOIVAS.
[ Cheers and applause ]
**
* Yeaaaaaaah *
* Here come old flat-top *
* He come grooving up slowly *
* He got juju eyeballs *
* He one holy roller *
* He got hair down to his knees *
* Got to be a joker *
* He just do what he please, yeah *
**
Ow!
**
* He wear no shoeshine *
Whoo! * He got toe-jam football *
* He got monkey finger *
* He shoot Coca-Cola *
* He say, "I know you, and you know me" *
Oh!
* "One thing I can tell you *
* Is you got to be free" *
* Come together *
* Right now *
* Over me *
**
Ow!
* Yeaaaah *
* Yeah, yeah, yeah *
* Yeah *
* Yeah *
* Yeah, yeah, yeah *
* He roller-coaster *
* He got early warning *
* He got muddy water *
* He one mojo filter *
* He say, "One and one and one is three" *
* Got to be good-lookin' *
* 'Cause he's so hard to see *
* So hard to see *
* Come together *
* Right now *
* Come together *
* Right now * * Oooooooooh, oooh-oooh-ooh *
* Come together *
[ Chuckles ]
* Right now *
* Over me *
**
* Yeaaaaaaah, yeah, yeah, yeaaaah *
**
Whoo!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is NOIVAS.
Oh, my God!
Great way to kick off the playoffs.
Niall, what'd you think?
NOIVAS, whoa. Whoa. It's insane.
You brought a different level of energy every week.
And this week you've come out and you've put on
one of the best performances we've seen on this show.
Wow. [ Cheers and applause ]
Chance?
Incredible.
You just turned this into your own concert.
The use of the background vocalists
was something I didn't see coming.
I'm like, is he cheating? I don't know. [ Laughter ]
I thought the whole thing was...
I don't know. What's the best word for it?
Fire.
Fire? Fire.
Fire!
If it was up to me,
I would send him right ahead. You would?
Whoo! Hell, yeah. Okay.
Daly: Alright. Kelly?
I have no idea how you don't make it.
Yeah. It was so incredible.
I mean, your range, you were, like,
shredding with the guitar vocally.
Like, it was, like, "What?"
I think I'm gonna see you in the finale.
I'd be shocked if I didn't.
Let's see what your coach thinks. Blake.
Blake: I'm glad the producers decided to not give you
the most dangerous half of the microphone stand.
[ Laughter ]
I mean, because people almost got hurt.
It was scary. [ Chuckles ]
But I'm talking about just an overall eruption
that happens on the stage when this guy gets up here.
Your singing was incredible.
The way you perform, it's a little bit wild
and it just works for you, dude, great job.
How about another hand for NOIVAS,
ladies and gentlemen? [ Cheers and applause ]
Blake: NOIVAS came out here and he set the bar,
I think, for the entire competition.
Whoo!
Blake: I have other performances to see,
but, man, he's gonna make this a tough decision for me.
Good job, man. Good job. Thank you.
A lot is riding on these playoffs.
We've cut our team in half two times
and now we're asked to cut it even more than half.
This is painful.
I love that you said "a little wild."
A little? A little wild.
[ Chuckles ] It was like a lot wild.
Niall: Every time he steps on the stage,
NOIVAS brings it.
And if he gets to the lives,
he is tough, tough competition for Team Niall.
He's like 7 foot tall. I'm pretty big, though.
[ Chuckles ]
Daly: Coming up... * The thrill is gone *
Daly: ...the artists sing for spots in the live semifinals.
* Love is alive and at our breakfast table *
* Every day of the week *
Daly: And an emotional rehearsal moves Chance.
I literally just started crying.
Oh, my God. [ Chuckles ]
* Valentine *
* Staaaaaaay *
Oh, my God.
Daly: And later, the Playoff Pass artists
take the stage.
You felt it. You meant it. You believe it.
* If I die young, bury me in satin *
That was my favorite performance from Team Blake today.
Blake: Sorry about this for three of you.
The first artist advancing is...
**
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Hey, hey. Hey, hey.
It's good to see y'all, man.
I'm super excited for the playoffs.
My team is really, like, stacked.
This is my last chance to really, like, size up my team
and see what they have before America starts to decide.
Man: Nate? Nate?
I was just saying what's up. Hey!
Hey, what's up, man? [ Chuckles ]
We welcome you to the team, Kala. Yes, welcome!
You fit right in. You were the missing piece.
You put so much emotion into it.
Can't wait to hear you.
So I could cry. Thank you. Aww!
Chance: Kala is amazing.
[ Whoosh ] Daly: That is the sound of a steal!
Chance: I can't believe that Niall and Kelly
both let her go.
Kala is my blessing in disguise.
* And I don't want the world to see me *
Kelly: Kala's voice is so angelic,
but she has this heartbreak with her rasp.
That just sticks out to me.
You're like one of my favorite storytellers
I've ever worked with.
Thank you so much.
Niall: Letting Kala go
might be one of my bigger regrets.
I'm so excited to see you perform for Team Chance.
Yeah. Are you excited for this song?
Yeah, I sang it when I was in high school
where I was a vocalist in the jazz band.
It really kind of opened my eyes
to how fun jazz can be.
* My funny Valentine *
I'm singing "My Funny Valentine,"
which is nowadays like a jazz standard.
* You make me smile *
People might think jumping from coach to coach
can be a disadvantage, but I feel like I've learned
something so unique from each coach.
Chance built his own legacy.
It's really amazing to get the opportunity to work
with someone who has done it all.
* Valentine *
Chance: Kala really surprised me.
She has this ability to play
with the intricacies on a lot of these songs.
She just brought this new feeling to it.
I am broken right now.
Oh!
I literally just started crying.
Oh, my God. [ Chuckles ]
The one note that I had was if you just
sustained a little bit more.
The vibrato, I think, sometimes
breaks it up a little bit too much.
But, like, what do I know? [ Chuckles ]
I just started crying.
I have no idea what's happening
to me emotionally right now.
My eyes are also really dry today.
[ Laughs ] Sure.
I'm brand-new to the show, but I'm almost absolutely sure
that this is the best deal
to happen in the history of "The Voice."
I'm so, so happy to have you on the team, Kala.
I'm happy to be here.
Everybody on my team should win this competition
and it's gonna be based on this next performance
as to who's my two to go to the live shows.
Wowzers.
[ Cheers and applause ]
"My Funny Valentine."
I'm dedicating this to you.
[ Chuckles ] Thank you. Yeah.
I'm so excited about this.
This is about to be crazy.
Singing "My Funny Valentine," here's Kala Banham.
[ Cheers and applause ]
**
* Ohhhhhhhh *
* My funny valentine *
* Sweet comic valentine *
* You make me smile *
* With my heart *
* Your looks are laughable *
* Hmm *
* Unphotographable *
* Yet, you're my favorite *
* Work of art *
* Oh *
* Is your figure less than Greek? *
* Is your mouth a little weak? *
* When you open it to speak *
* Are you smart? *
* Oooooooohh *
* But don't change a hair for me *
* Not if you care for me *
* Stay, funny valentine *
* Staaaaaaaaaaaay *
* Each day is Valentine's Daaaa-aa-aa-aaaa-aa-aa-aa-aaay *
* Each day is Valentine's Daaaa-aa-aa-aaaa-aa-aa-aa-aaay *
Oh, my God!
* Each day is Valentine's Daaaaaaa-aaaaaaaa-aaa-aaaay *
* Each day is Valentine's Daaaaaaa-aaaaaaaa-aaa-aaaay *
[ Cheers and applause ]
What? Daly: That is Kala Banham,
ladies and gentlemen.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Wow. Oh, my God.
Blake, what did you think of that?
It was perfect. Like, was it perfect?
Yeah. I think it was actually perfect.
Thank you, Blake.
You have to put her in the next level. Yeah.
That was unbelievable. You have to.
It's my show, so you have to do what I say.
[ Laughter ]
Kala, that song was, like, made for you.
And I spoke to you about this when we started.
Make sure that you sing songs that could be on your record,
and that's just different level now.
Thanks, Niall. Kelly.
You made it Kala's version,
like, as if that was a brand-new song.
It was so beautiful and dark but inspiring.
It was all the great adjectives.
Chance.
I'm so proud. That was so incredible.
Like, it's crazy that you slipped through
two other coaches' fingers. [ Laughter ]
You made me cry in the rehearsal.
And... Wait a minute. You cried?
I did. [ Laughs ]
It was amazing. Thanks, Chance.
How about another big hand for Kala Banham, everybody?
[ Cheers and applause ]
Chance: Kala was insane. You are unbelievable.
Chance: Her ability to change songs
to fit, like, her esthetic and feel.
And it just reminded everybody
how dumb they were for losing her on their team.
Like, are you crazy?
I thought I had made up in my mind how I was gonna go.
And now everything's kinda up in the air.
That was so beautiful.
God, why did I get rid of her?
Oh, my gosh. I'm just relieved, I think.
[ Chuckles ]
I needed to give the best performance of my life
to go to lives.
I'm praying that it was enough.
You cried, like, cried? Cried. Oh, my goodness.
Real men do. I didn't make the sound.
The song's called "My Funny Valentine."
[ Laughter ]
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs
at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Now it's the pop singer from Wisconsin
that Blake stole from Kelly during the knockouts.
Here's more from Rachel Christine.
Blake: Rachel was my steal in the knockout.
Oh! Oh, my God!
And I recognized quickly
that she was choosing some unique things
to do with that performance.
She honored the original, but she changed it up.
She was just great at it.
Rachel is my alternative dark horse on Team Blake.
* Will you walk awaaaaay *
Rachel, you remind me so much of me when I was younger.
When your other person gets stolen,
it's like the best moment ever
because you don't want them to go home
and you know they deserve to stay.
Hey! Hi.
The new person.
It's definitely a once-in-a-lifetime feeling.
I'm Blake's last steal ever.
I was sitting here looking at your song selection.
"The Only Exception" by Paramore.
Yeah. And I think I've met her.
She's a Nashville girl.
Yes, she is. Yeah.
Hayley Williams, yep. Hayley, yeah. That's right.
I grew up on Paramore and not just Paramore.
I love Hayley Williams herself.
She is such a good lyricist.
* And my mama swore that she would *
I am inspired by her when I write.
My sister's a writer.
My dad's a writer. My mom songwrites.
I've written about 10 songs on my own
that are just piano and me singing
and they're just voice memos on my phone.
But they're done. [ Chuckles ]
* Ooooooooooh *
Nice. When you can get on a note and find the pitch,
you nail it perfectly. Yeah.
But it's the quick ones getting up there
that felt like you kinda went off the rails
for just a second.
Please don't regret stealing me.
I can do this. [ Chuckles ] [ Chuckles ]
I'm very grateful to be here,
but I almost feel like maybe I'm just getting lucky.
Maybe I'm not as talented.
[ Crying ]
I'm sorry.
These are kind of tears of joy.
I'm just really surprised that I'm still here
because I didn't think I was gonna make it past the blinds.
So much better. Yeah, it felt better.
I think you could tweak --
* The morning *
and leave with some kind of proof.
Both of those,
give them the extra strength and lift they need
because they're almost getting thrown away.
Yeah. But outside of that, I would just go
woodshed on it now. [ Chuckles ]
I can only take two artists into these live semifinals.
I do not regret... Okay, thank God.
...stealing you at all.
I know I did the right thing.
Rachel just needs to make sure she's consistent
all the way through the song.
If she can do that, it's gonna be a standout performance.
Incredible.
These artists are all so good.
I don't have a clue what I'm gonna do at this moment.
This is gonna be tough.
See you, buddy. Alright. Thank you so much. [ Chuckles ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
With "The Only Exception," here is Rachel Christine.
Yeah, Rachel!
**
* When I was younger, I saw my daddy cry *
* And curse at the wind *
* He broke his own heart, and I watched *
* As he tried to reassemble it *
* And my mama swore *
* That she would never let herself forget *
* And that was the day that I promised *
* I'd never sing of love if it does not exist *
* But, darling, you are the only exception *
* But you are the only exception *
* But you, the only exception *
* But you are the only exceptioooooon *
* Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooo-oooh *
* I've got a tight grip on reality *
* But I can't let go of what's in front of me here *
* I know you're leaving in the morning *
* When I wake up *
* Leave me with some kind proof it's not a dream *
* Oooo-ooo-ooo-ooooooooooh *
* You are the only exception *
* But you are the only exceptiooooooooon *
* You are the only exception *
* You are the only exception Ooooooooooooooooooooooh *
* And I'm on my way to believiiiiiiiiiiiing *
Yeah!
* Oh, and I'm on my way to believing *
You did it, Rachel!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Rachel Christine,
ladies and gentlemen.
Yeah!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Yes!
Let's get some thoughts from Chance.
Chance: Great control of the stage.
You were just -- You were just snaking around up there.
[ Laughter ] I felt like there was maybe, like,
one or two moments where it got a little pitchy,
but then you, like, still caught yourself
right behind that.
And I thought it was an awesome performance.
Thank you so much. Kelly.
I loved all the soaring notes.
I loved just artistically where you went with it.
I love how big and open your voice is, Rachel.
It's so beautiful. Great job.
Thank you. Niall.
Rachel, That was beautiful. Great rendition of it.
Something I haven't heard. Kind of a bit more theatrical.
That lower register stuff is if you're anyway nervous,
it can scare the life out of you.
And to get through that, I thought you smashed it.
Obviously, Blakey Boy's got some tough decisions
and some of his last decisions he'll make on "The Voice."
But you've given him something to think about.
[ Cheers and applause ] Thank you.
Thank you, Coaches. Blake.
I got to tell you, man, you threw a monkey wrench
into this whole thing for me
because to have you fall into the mix here
last minute and for you to swing for the fence like that,
you really did an incredible job.
Thank you. And I'm so blown away by you, Rachel.
I really am. Thank you so much.
How about another big hand for Rachel Christine, everybody?
[ Cheers and applause ]
Kelly: Rachel, she's got such a gorgeous voice.
I love her.
I'm always excited because my team gets stolen
and they stay on the show, so I'm excited for them,
but, man, when they do such a great job, you get a little bummed.
You're like, "Oh, man.
I maybe made a poor decision." [ Chuckles ]
Blake: I'll only choose two artists to move forward.
And the stakes have never been higher.
Rachel -- I totally respect her song choice
to show off what she's capable of.
But, man, NOIVAS -- I mean, his stage presence is also
this physical thing that happens onstage.
Man, I don't know what I'm gonna do now.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
I just seen a note or something.
**
"Chance, I miss you"?
"XOXO, Blake." [ Chuckles ]
Alright, cool.
Jamar is trained.
He knows what he's doing,
and he has the experience to make it even after the show.
Jamar is my veteran.
* To every little part of each other *
Whoo! * Baby, baby, babe *
Kelly: Chance has got a great one with Jamar.
You can sing some baby-making music, man.
He's really cool. Jamar just stands out.
Jamar, I love when you're playing the guitar.
You're kind of lost in the moment, and it works.
Chance: You've been killing it, dude.
I've been putting my heart into it.
Everybody's happy that you're here.
How you feel about the song?
This is actually one of my personal favorites.
Something my dad used to play and sing.
That's all we heard -- him in the kitchen playing,
my mama whipping up Sunday dinner.
I am singing "The Thrill Is Gone"
by B.B. King.
* The thrill is gone away, yeah *
The words have spoken to me throughout my music career.
* All I can do is wish you well, yeah *
"All I could do is wish you well."
To me, that's so powerful because I can wish those moments
of not getting in the door, those moments of no callbacks.
Every moment that I've failed in music -- bye-bye,
because here I am in the playoffs.
Boom. First of all, that sounds fire. [ Chuckles ]
The one thing that you have left to unlock
is just a little bit of, like... Oh, yeah.
...a little bit of swag, you know what I'm saying? A little swag, yeah.
Prince got the most swag with a guitar.
When Prince got the guitar, he's...
You know what I'm saying? He's got the little bends.
Like, obviously he's got the mic stand tricks, too.
The mic stand is an instrument.
Moving around it, coming to the side of it,
and like, you know, having that, like, control,
we call it motivated sound.
Like, people are hearing stuff, but they want to see the visual.
Like, what's motivating that feel? True.
It reminds us that you controlling that --
that piece on the stage. Man, yes.
But again, you got it, dude. Yeah.
I got to take it back to the living room.
Jamar, on this performance, if he can really lead the band
and keep his identity front and center onstage,
not only will the crowd and everybody else love him,
but I would have him in my top two.
Chance: I'll see you soon, Jamar. See you soon.
My guy. Yes, sir.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Ooh. This is gonna be so good.
My team is fire.
Daly: Singing "The Thrill Is Gone,"
here's Jamar Langley.
[ Cheers and applause ]
[ Guitar strums ]
**
* The thrill is gone *
**
* The thrill is gone away *
Yeah.
* The thrill is gone *
**
* Hey *
* The thrill is gone away *
**
* You know you done me wrong, baby *
* And you'll be sorry someday *
Band, come on with the second verse.
**
* The thrill is gone *
* It's gone away from me *
**
* The thrill is gone *
* Ha *
* Hey, is gone away from me, yeah *
* Yes, it is *
* Although I'll be living on, baby *
* So lonely I'll be *
Break the music. Break the music right here.
Whoo!
* The thrill is gone *
* Is gone away for good *
* Yes, it is, yes, it is *
**
* The thrill is gone *
* Hey *
* Is gone away for good *
* Someday I'll be moving on, baby *
* Just like I know a good man like me should *
* 'Cause I've been a good boy *
* Take it to the bridge *
* I'm free now, baby *
* Thrill is gone *
* I'm free from your spell *
* Thrill is gone *
* I'm free now, baby *
* Thrill is gone *
* I'm free from your spell *
* Thrill is gone *
* And when it's all over *
* Thrill is gone *
* When it's all over *
* Thrill is gone *
* When it's all over *
* I'm gonna wish you well *
* Yeah, yeah *
* When it's all over *
* All I can do is wish you well *
**
* Yeah, yeah *
* When it's all over *
* All I can do is wish you well *
* Ha, baby, now the thrill is gone *

He was awesome!
That was so good!
I'm telling you, man! Whoa.
Oh, my God! Daly: Jamar, great job.
Let's get some thoughts from our coaches.
Kelly Clarkson.
You are incredibly cool, man. Right?
Oh. Jamar: Thank you. Thank you.
I mean, you just walk onstage,
the music hadn't even started, and I already want to be you.
Like, you're just a cool dude.
When you play, it's like your body
is singing with your voice.
That was such a great performance. Thank you so much.
I appreciate it. Daly: Thank you, Kelly. Blake.
Chance, your team -- you got some really big singers.
I don't know how he stacks up against everybody else,
but I think from the standpoint of just what you do vocally,
you nail it.
And then to mix in the guitar,
I think you got to move him forward.
[ Cheers and applause ]
And again, it's my show, and so what I say is --
So I have to do what -- Alright, what you said.
[ Laughter ]
Niall. Your voice just sounds
so familiar to me in the best way possible.
And the conversational. I forgot to say that.
But you were, like, laughing and playful.
It was, like -- It was so cool.
Usually you're like, shy Jamar, you know?
Time to bring the beast out. That's it. Yeah! [ Laughs ]
Showed up. [ Cheers and applause ]
Well, I'll tell you what, Chance, Jamar's your guy.
I appreciate that. I appreciate that.
Jamar, let's see what your coach thinks.
Chance. My favorite thing overall
was your interaction with the band.
Like, all of those directional qualities
of being a real live performer, like, next is the lives.
Like, this is, like, the last chance I get
to pick who's gonna be on Team Chance,
and you just made a really, really strong case.
You just showed up today. That was just raw.
Thank you. How about another big hand for Jamar Langley, everybody?
[ Cheers and applause ]
Jamar. My boy Jamar. He just went off.
His technical ability, his pitch, his timing.
This round is definitely making people bring their A-game.
I have no idea how I'm gonna pick only two.
I keep trying to tell y'all my whole team is fire.
And that was really cool. That was so good.
Chance, pick me so we can go ahead and win this thing.
I just realized there's spider webs and a spider
on my chair right now. I actually love spiders.
Grab it. I dare you. Okay.
Blake: You like spiders? Yeah.
I've never seen this. I need to take a video of it. Can you see it?
[ Laughter ] We got Kelly Clarkson here
walking her pet spider. I don't want it to fall.
Possibly the coolest and grossest thing
I've ever seen on the set of "The Voice."
There you go. You can come on my chair.
Now it's my spider. Ew. [ Laughs ]
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Kelly: There's a little baby spider, so don't --
I was just telling you not to kill it.
I took it from Chance's chair.
Chance: I think I'm covered in spider webs right now.
I'm letting her hang with me. [ Laughs ]
[ Laughter ]
Now it's the Michigan country singer
who's singing a number-one country hit tonight --
Grace West.
Blake: Grace, she's so consistent.
She's got this pure, real country tone
that kind of takes me back to my favorite days
in country music, which is the '80s.
Grace is my last country artist.
* Maybe it was Memphis *
Niall: Grace's voice is incredible.
She knows all of the nuances in a country singer,
and it's a kind of voice that you can't really teach.
Oh, my gosh. I was so sad. Hi.
I thought you weren't coming. Oh, pfft.
I was like, "Oh, Grace forgot about me." Never.
Blake: Grace is only 19 years old,
and she already has a publishing deal in Nashville.
It's a lot less stressful coming in here
and not having Reba looking at you
when you're about to sing. [ Laughs ]
And now this exposure here on the show,
she's just literally one step away now
from being the next star on country radio.
This is "Love Is Alive" by The Judds.
Do you know this song?
I never sang it before, but I know it.
Have you done any Wynonna at all?
One of the first songs I learned on guitar,
especially playing out at gigs, I learned "Grandpa."
Well, my guitar I got from my grandpa when I learned.
And it's got my great grandmother's name
engraved in the top. Is that the one?
Yes, this is the one. Whoa. Let me see.
So...
Got her name on a little nameplate right here. Look at that.
* Love ain't a candle *
I was 13 when I first got this guitar from my grandpa.
I started taking it with me to gig places,
and I brought it to Nashville
every time I would travel down to write.
So it has been with me for every major musical event
and experience I've had.
Having the guitar with me is like having my family with me.
* Love is alive and at our breakfast table *
* Every day of the week *
Blake: I totally think that Grace fits in
in what's happening in country music right now.
The movement, especially for females, is
it's leaning more traditional than it has in years.
Blake: Well, I just think you have such a pure-sounding voice,
and get enough air that you can really milk those parts.
Just go out there and be Grace.
Alright.
Representing Blake in his final lives
as a country artist -- the only one on his team --
that would be a dream come true.
Thank you. Yes, ma'am. Thank you, buddy.
I'm so excited. Me, too.
I want to make the live shows to prove to myself
that I can do this, then move to Nashville.
I'm not going to college.
Like, I'm eat, sleeping, and breathing music.
It will be all worth it.
Alright. See ya, buddy.
See ya. Thank you.
[ Cheers and applause ]
She got the hat out. Yep. And the guit.
Singing "Love Is Alive," here's Grace West.
**
* Love ain't a candle *
* It doesn't burn for one night *
* And need the dark to shine *
**
* Love is alive *
**
* And love ain't just a word *
* In every dictionary *
* With nowhere defined *
**
* Love is a man and he's mine *
**
* Love is alive and at our breakfast table *
* Every day of the week *
* Love is alive and it grows every day and night *
* Even in our sleep *
* Love is alive and it's made a happy woman out of me *
* Oh, love is alive *
* And here by me *
**
* And love ain't just a mood *
* A distant, far away dream *
* That needs the night to rise *
**
* Love is alive *
* Oh, love is alive and at our breakfast table *
* Every day of the week *
* Love is alive and it grows every day and night *
* Even in our sleep *
* Love is alive and it's made a happy woman out of me *
* Oh, love is alive *
* And here by me *
[ Cheers and applause ]
* Love is aliiiiiiiive *
* Here by me *
* Ooh, ooh *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Now we're talking! Daly: Give it up for Grace West.
Whoo!
Way to go. Let's get some thoughts from our coaches.
We'll start with Niall.
Whoo. Say good stuff, buddy. That was good.
I d-- I don't have any bad things to say about this girl.
Since day one, I've just been a massive fan.
And no matter what happens on this show --
I think you should send her through --
there's no doubt that you will have a career.
You've got the most authentic, yet familiar voice
that you could possibly hear coming out of country music.
And I'm all in for it.
Thank you.
Daly: Chance. There's a reason you made it this far.
It's 'cause you have great control
and a strong sense of self in your identity,
and it shows in, like, your song selection.
If I was Blake and I wanted to win the show,
I would probably -- I've thought about winning -- wanting to win.
So that makes sense, yeah. Exactly.
[ Laughter ]
I'd go with Grace. Okay.
Daly: Kelly. I'm such a fan of you.
I love that you're so young.
You're 19, and you sing all this great music that I grew up on.
You have a very flawless way of singing country music.
It's just in your bones. Yeah.
I love this song so much,
but I don't think this song showcased the best of you,
and I can't wait to see that.
I'm looking forward to what you're gonna do. Thank you, Coaches.
Grace, let's see what your coach thought.
Blake. I'm just trying to still make some sense
out of what Kelly said, which is common around here.
[ Laughter ] It made sense.
Well, you were just saying that you loved the song,
you loved her performance of the song,
but you wouldn't have done that song.
We're picking two people out of five.
I was just saying, I think that song didn't do you justice
for what you actually are capable of, overall.
Since the first time I heard you sing,
I've just been excited.
I have this very unique young artist
that I get to work with on my last season.
The fact that you're the last person I even hit my button for,
it's just been really exciting to me.
And you did another great job today, so awesome, Grace.
Yeah. Thank you so much.
How about another big hand for Grace West, everybody?
Blake: Grace, she's been consistent every single time.
Grace: Thank you. Great stuff.
Blake: And I just love how
she's just pure country and nothing else.
It's making this decision even harder for me.
I love her. She's 19. She killed it.
Grace West -- she's like country's next star.
She's so cool. I would buy that record tomorrow. Yeah. Yeah.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
Some of them surprised me today.
I think they've been so good.
I think people came to want to make the semifinals.
Specifically. I mean, just specifically.
You know who, specifically... Specifically, Kala.
...surprised me? Yeah, she did.
She surprised me. But what about my team?
I think NOIVAS killed it. Grace.
Do you regret letting NOIVAS go off your team?
It was a play. I gave him to you.
It was, like, "This guy could win the show,
but he has to win with Blake." Got it.
[ Laughs ] That's so kind. Yeah.
Let's do this. Alright, let's do it.
Now it's the Dallas soul singer
and Chance's Playoff Pass artist, Manasseh Samone.
Chance: Manasseh -- I've been keeping her in the tuck,
waiting for the opportunity to win the whole thing with her.
Manasseh is my secret weapon.
[ Cheers and applause ] Daly: Oh!
Chance: Manasseh, my Playoff Pass winner...
I haven't seen her in a couple of weeks.
I've been missing you. I'mma be honest with you.
Aww. You know?
Vice versa. What do you think about the song?
Manasseh: I am singing "Speak The Name,"
by Koryn Hawthorne.
She was a contestant on "The Voice."
She's, like, Grammy-nominated now,
and knowing that she's a contemporary Christian artist
as well, it really paves the way for me.
This song is definitely, like, a signification of my life
through all of the dark times,
from not having my father in my life,
and also, like, losing my oldest brother.
I remember I would always, you know, go to the church.
Amen. This the first time we getting gospel on the show.
I'm so glad that it's you bringing it to us.
* The atmosphere is changing *
This song relates to me 'cause back home
I would worship at my church
and it would encourage so many other people.
But they didn't know behind closed doors
that I was dealing with my own things.
My brother Ray had HIV/AIDS.
He stopped talking, and he didn't even look like himself.
It's a tough story, but it helped me be who I am today.
* The Name above all other names *
When she gets onstage, you really feel the lyrics.
You feel her talent. You feel connected to her.
Witness for us, man. That's what we need. [ Chuckles ]
You are leading worship with this. [ Chuckles ]
Please stay in that mode. Like, be all the way vulnerable.
I hope if make it to the lives
that I could just win this whole thing. [ Laughs ]
And it would be crazy 'cause I don't think
a gospel artist has ever won.
Chance: I got to take a picture with you. [ Chuckles ]
[ Camera shutter clicks ]
I'm just ready to smash it.
[ Cheers and applause ]
With "Speak The Name," here's Manasseh Samone.
Manasseh? Yeah.
**
* The atmosphere is changing *
* Nothing stays the same *
* Heaven is waiting *
* For the mention of the Name *
* The Spirit is moving *
* Burning like a flame *
* Healing the broken *
* By the One we proclaim *
* Raise it up *
* Fill the sky *
* Oh, chains will fall *
* Mountains move *
* We lift You high *
* Speak the Name *
* The Name above all other names *
* Speak the Name *
* The Name the wind and waves obey *
* All of heaven coming down *
* Fill the earth with the sound *
* Of the Name *
* The Name of Jesus *
* Speak the Name *
* The Name of Jesus *
Whoo!
* Yeah *
* Wonderful Name *
* Glorious Name *
* Powerful Name of Jesus *
* Speak the name *
* The Name above all other names *
* You gotta speak the Name *
* Speak the Name *
* Oh, he saved me *
* He healed me *
* He could do it for you *
* Oh, yeah *
* I'mma fill the earth with the sound *
* Of the Name, whoo *
* The Name of Jesus *
* Speak the Name *
* The Name of Jesus *
[ Cheers and applause ]
**
Thank you.
Daly: That is Manasseh Samone.
Let's get some thoughts from Niall. Niall?
Oh, Manasseh, that was insane.
You know, I could kind of little bit
sense the nerves early in the song.
You were trying to come out here and prove
why you got the Playoff Pass. Mm-hmm.
By the end of that song, you did exactly that.
Your stage performance was better than I've ever seen it,
and it was so nice to watch the passion
you really put in there.
You never, never put a foot wrong, ever.
Thank you. Thank you, Coach. Kelly?
I just love a passionate performance.
You felt it. You meant it. You believe it.
You look beautiful.
Thank you. It looks like a finale moment right now,
what's happening onstage.
I don't know how you're gonna choose.
Good luck. Thanks, Kelly.
Daly: Blake? Blake: The shaky parts,
trying to get up to the level of energy,
or even pitch in the first half,
and then once you kind of cut loose,
you definitely put it together there at the end.
I don't know what I'd do if I was you, Chance.
You know what she's capable of.
So tough one for you, buddy. Chance, what are you thinking, bud?
That was the best performance. Thank you.
And there's people that are watching at home right now,
their eyes are welling up with tears
'cause you just professed the name Jesus
in front of 10 million-plus viewers at home.
So I think the fact that you've been on the show
a season before and didn't make it past blinds,
you came back and got the Playoff Pass,
you're here performing a song from a past "Voice" contestant
who went on to make it huge as a gospel artist.
It feels very ordained, and I thought it was
the coolest thing I've seen so far. Oh, thank you.
How about another big hand for Manasseh Samone?
[ Cheers and applause ]
Chance: Manasseh's performance was insane.
She really bared herself and beared witness.
But Kala, it was just such a beautiful performance.
It showed off her vocal strength.
And then we got Jamar.
He really came out of his shell.
I feel kinda bad for Blake, him having to make a decision
with all these talented people.
Not -- Not as tough as the decision I have to make.
I'm gonna draw a flame for you guys,
'cause my team is -- is fire. [ Laughs ]
Daly: Coming up...
* Something's got a hold on me *
* Oh, it's got a hold on me **
* You don't need no other body *
This is cheating. [ Laughter ]
It's too perfect.
Daly: And later...
Who will move on to the semifinals?
Blake, are you ready?
No, I'm nervous.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Kylee, I think one of the first times I heard you
was singing "All By Myself,"
and when you hit that note at the end, I just...
Exactly. [ Chuckles ]
It's, like, beautiful no matter what you do.
Oh, thanks. You're okay.
[ Laughter ]
Blake: Kylee's got range all over the place
from the top to the bottom,
and every time she gets on this stage,
she's blowing the roof off this place
with just the power and skill set that she has.
Kylee is my surprising pop star.
* All by myself *
* Anymooore *
You really got in there and you just kept going,
and it was incredible.
Congratulations. Thank you.
Thank youfor blowing the roof off the place.
[ Chuckles ] When you do a gig, do you sing like that?
I don't do anything at home.
I just, like, sing in my bedroom.
Wow.
* We were gold *
For the playoffs, I'm singing "Flowers" by Miley Cyrus.
I'm gonna be singing about how I don't need anybody
to make me happy.
There was a time when my parents had just got divorced
and my mom was struggling to find herself,
and then I literally watched her journey
figuring out how to do things without a man.
* I can buy myself flowers *
She has just always shown me and my sister
that we can do anything we put our minds to,
and I genuinely wouldn't be experiencing any of this
without her.
* Say things you don't understand *
Blake: This song, it's a current hit.
She is an artist that could fit in on the radio right now,
and it's cool to be able to experience that
and see her discover that for herself.
So good.
Ugh, I love singing that song! It's so fun!
[ Chuckles ]
I was doing it with my guitar last night,
and I have some ideas.
Okay.
* Started to cry, but then remembered I *
And then, like, take it to the regular. I love it.
Paul: We could certainly add him
playing the guitar in the front of it.
That stop, I think, is pretty important. Yeah, yeah.
We can give an extra bar there, sure.
Okay. Yeah.
Kylee definitely has a vision for herself,
and it's just super impressive for somebody, you know,
who hasn't had any experience to kind of take it by the reins.
My mom is such a girlboss,
and I'm just gonna channel her energy onstage
and just slay.
Have you heard that word before?
Girlboss? Slay.
Oh, oh, God, yeah.
[ Laughter ] I'm gonna slay.
I wanna make the lives just 'cause I wanna continue to grow.
Going from my bedroom to a live TV audience,
that would be insane.
That's what the kids say now, "slay."
It's like you killed it, not like you're in
a transportation mechanism with horses.
It's not like a sleigh, like a --
Well, then, maybe I don't understand.
It's not like a one-horse open sleigh.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Whoo!
Whoo!
With "Flowers," here's Kylee Dayne.
I hope she smashes it.
**
* We were good *
* We were gold *
* Kinda dream that can't be sold *
* We were right till we weren't *
* Built a home and watched it burn *
* Mm, I didn't wanna leave you, I didn't wanna lie *
* Started to cry, but then remembered I *
* I can buy myself flowers *
* Write my name in the sand *
* Talk to myself for hours *
* Say things you don't understand *
* And I can take myself dancing, ohhh *
* I can hold my own hand *
* Yeah, I can love me better than you can *
* Can love me better, I can love me better, baby *
* Can love me better, I... *
* I can love me better *
* Paint my nails *
Whoo! * Cherry red *
* Match the roses that you left *
* No remorse, no regret *
* I forgive every word you said *
* Hey, I didn't wanna leave, baby *
* I didn't wanna fight *
* Started to cry, remembered I *
* I can buy myself flowers *
* Ohhh *
* Write my name in the sand *
* I'll write my name in the sand *
* Talk to myself *
* For hours *
* Say things you don't understand *
* Ohhhh, I can take myself dancing *
* Ohhh, I can hold my own hand *
* Yeah, I can love me better than *
* Yeah, I can love me better than *
* Yeah, I can love me better than you can *
* Can love me better, I can love me better, baby *
* Can love me better, I can love me better, baby *
* Wooooooah *
* I can love me better, baby *
* Yeah, I can *
* Yeah, I can love me better than you can *
[ Cheers and applause ] That was so good.
Daly: That is Kylee Dayne, everybody.
Whoo!
Whoo!
Chance, we'll start with you.
Chance: Thought it was a cool choice of song.
I think if I was in Blake's position, I'd have a tough time
because Kylee shows every week why she's here,
so I thought it was a great performance overall.
Yeah. Kel?
You just have these incredible runs that sound effortless,
which I love, it doesn't sound put-on. Thank you.
I know I saw your face at the end of the performance,
so I know you weren't, like, 100% at the end,
you were a little bummed,
but even though you missed, like, a couple things
that you feel like you could have done better,
like, it was still a solid performance. Thank you.
Niall. Niall: To come out and do a big song like Miley,
you always, like, challenge yourself with newer songs,
which I think is a bigger test, sometimes, than the older ones
'cause they're very in people's ears at the moment.
I've always been a huge fan,
and I would like to see you make the lives.
I think you just always bring something different.
Alright, Coaches. Thanks for that. Blake?
Blake: I wanted to ask Kylee, like,
we all saw the look on your face there at the end.
I don't know if it was nerves, or do you just get choked up
for a second or...?
I think it's just, like, this whole environment
is just really new for me.
I usually just sing in my bedroom. Yeah, yeah.
That's probably all it was. I just saw that moment
where you were like, "Oh, I'm gonna punch myself
in the face right now."
[ Laughter ]
So don't beat yourself up too much.
I thought you did a great job. Thank you.
Give it up one more time for Kylee Dayne.
Blake: I can tell that Kylee really poured everything she had
into that performance,
and I could also see that she was beating herself up
at the end.
But, you know, Kylee has been solid this entire season,
and that's something that I try to take into account
when making a decision like this.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
Chance, how you been, boss?
Good, man. Good to see you.
Chance: Ray is an amazing vocalist and artist.
He's a powerful singer.
I would love to see what he does in the studio.
Ray is my subtle soul singer.
* Goodbye *
Whoo!
Ray, there's some huge male voices in this competition,
and I feel like you slide in under the radar
because of how slick everything is.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Ray: I'm feeling this song.
It's different from, you know,
everything that I've done so far. Yeah.
* Make ah give you all you need, baby *
I'll be singing "Essence," which is by Wizkid featuring Tems.
Together: * You don't need no other body *
Ray: I've been doing, like, ballads
and songs that make people want to cry, so this song,
it makes you want to dance, you know, it's a feel-good song.
And collaborating with Chance is really going to help me
show a bit of versatility.
We're gonna have, like, background vocalists
for this one. Yeah.
Maybe, like, the last chorus, have them take the main,
and then I just kind of, like, be free to ad lib.
I think that's a great idea.
Music has saved my life in a lot of different ways.
During my childhood,
making friends was not that easy for me.
I was very different from a lot of the people in my environment.
I was just kind of, like, a nerdy kid.
I did get picked on a lot,
but then I did go to a performing arts school.
I met a lot of people that were like me,
and I was, you know, free to just be myself.
Could be dope to slow it down,
make it a little bit more open.
Keep the rhythm out until we get to that bridge.
It's like this slowly building thing,
and really let his vocal push it through
and still have fun with showing your personality within it.
Are you cool with that?
Yeah, I think that'll be super cool.
* Give it all *
Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo!
Ray was really receptive to the changes.
His ability to bring songs to life
and, like, switch them up on a whim
is one of his strong suits.
I think it's fire.
Like, when you do the * Give you all you need *
what if you tried other choices for that note,
or, like, did, like, little runs just, like, to play with it
'cause she, you know -- she's going like, really low. Yeah.
Working with Chance when he's in his producer element
was really cool to see how -- how fast
he kind of, like, comes up with stuff.
When you're onstage, like, what mindset do you go into?
'Cause I be trying to make everything so perfect,
like, with vocals, so I'd be too focused on that.
First, first, first, first -- fun. Okay, okay.
You're here 'cause you like doing this. Yeah.
I really want to make it through to the lives.
It would blow my mind. I'm ready to go.
You got it, man. Yeah, yeah.
Team Chance is incredible, top to bottom.
Any of them could and should win this show,
and I'm ready to make the choice.
Kelly: Come on, Ray! Whoo!
With "Essence," here is Ray Uriel.
Come on, Ray!
**
* Ooooo-ooohhh *
* Say I'm gon' wanna leave you in the mornin' *
* But I need you now *
[ Whistles ] * Yeah, yeah *
* I find you, I give you all you needin' *
* I know you what you like *
[ Snapping ] Oh, my gosh.
* I feel it comin' *
* Time is of the essence *
* I tried to teach you *
Oh, my gosh.
* But I'm gon' need some lessons *
* I need to give it all *
* I tried to leave, but I can't *
* I don't know why you're the one *
Whoo!
* Turn me out of my mind *
* You don't need no other body *
* You don't need no other body *
* You don't need no other body, yeah *
* You don't need no other body *
* Only you fi hold my body *
* Only you can hold *
* Only you fi hold my body *

* Gave you all you need, gave you all you need *
* Gave you all *

* You don't need no other body *
* No other body, yeah *
Whoo!
* Only you fi hold my body, yeah *
* Whoooooo *
* Yeaaaaaah *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Ray Uriel. Whoo!
Oh, my gosh.
Whoo!
I love the arrangement! That is so cool!
It's so good. Y'all worked on that?
Your voice is like the angel I would want to sing to me.
You have such a beautiful tone. Thank you.
Like, it's so broken, but it's just so sweet and smooth.
Thank you so much.
I don't know how you're gonna choose.
Your team is really good.
Chance: Yeah. Good luck with that.
Yeah. Daly: Blake.
Ray, I want you to make it as an artist
and then you turn back the sound
that's on popular radio right now back to that,
'cause I think I mentioned to you in the knockouts
that there's something very '90s about how you sound. Yeah, yeah.
You gotta put this guy through.
Niall: Yeah. Are you going to?
Oh, I don't know, you got -- you got to think about it, okay.
[ Laughs ] Daly: Niall.
Oh, Ray, man, I could just watch you every week.
You're unbelievable. It just feels like the real deal.
I've got goosebumps as I'm saying it right now.
Does it not, like, feel like you're watching an award show?
Thank you.
Your tone is just so good.
Kinda like Frank Ocean, it's just, like -- just pure.
It's like if Frank Ocean and Miguel had a musical baby.
[ Chuckles ] Yeah.
Chancey Boy, send him through, brother, come on.
[ Cheers and applause ]
I'm so proud of this performance.
The growth that I've seen through the competition
is astronomical.
Watching you come out of your shell,
get more comfortable on this stage.
You just walk around with this effortless cool.
That's awesome.
When you make the songs sound like how you want them to be,
it's incredible, and everybody's arrested in it,
and so kudos to you, man.
Thank you. Amazing performance.
How about another big hand for Ray Uriel?
[ Cheers and applause ]
With Ray, every week,
he's just getting better and better and better
and also showing new sides of himself.
He's one of those people that I could see
winning the whole thing.
That was so cool. He's so good.
I'm telling you! My team is stacked!
Every time somebody goes up, I don't know what to do
'cause everybody's too good.
In building this team, I'm looking for somebody
that stands out because it's not just about me anymore,
it's about America and who they're gonna want to see win.
So I just really want individuality
and a confidence in self.
God, it's so beautiful. You could listen to that forever.
Team Chance has stepped it up big time in the playoffs.
The vocal performances have been unbelievable so far.
They've taken it to a new level.
Chance: We got two more. Is that what's going on here?
Oh, no, two more, and then we make the decision.
Blake: What does kudos mean? Is it like, "congrats,"
or, like, you did -- Kudos, like "congratulations."
Yeah. "Good on you," like --
Good on you. You did something good.
Yeah. Kudos.
I thought there was a snack --
There was a snack that came out in the '90s called "Kudos."
Kudos bar. Oh, yeah, Kudos bar.
I remember those. Yeah.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Is it hot in here?
The leather. It's leather.
It's not hot at all. [ Laughs ]
Got to sit up straight like a lady.
Now it's time for the singer-songwriter from Virginia
who Blake sent straight to this round
using his one and only Playoff Pass.
Here's more from Mary Kate Connor.
Blake: Come in here, little buddy. Mary Kate: Hey, big buddy.
How you doing? Good. I'm excited.
Good to see you.
Good to see you. It's been forever.
My -- My Playoff Pass.
[ Chuckling ] That's still crazy every time you say it.
I think -- Oh, it works.
Daly: Oh!
Blake: Mary Kate has stepped into this competition
with a lot of confidence
and knowing exactly what she wants to do,
and she's fearless about it. Somebody that focused,
I wanted to get her right into the playoffs.
Mary Kate is my fearless young talent
that I have on Team Blake.
Alright, so talk to me about this.
Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited about this song.
"If I Die Young," The Band Perry.
I feel like I haven't yet been able to, like, find moments
that I can be theatrical 'cause I used to, like --
My dream was to be on Broadway.
* If I die young *
I've done theater since I was 9,
and so I'm excited to sing this song with drama
and use my theater background
to really, like, hone in on the performance.
My goal is to make people cry with this song.
* The sharp knife of a short life *
The stakes are so high this round
because I am the Playoff Pass on Blake's last team
and I just really want to make him proud
so that he doesn't regret pushing me this far
into the competition.
* Just enough time *
The thing I love about this song for you
is that you can hear all the little tiny details
and things that you do.
Maybe too much time in your head voice. Absolutely.
When you get to the chorus,
you kind of want this natural build, and it just...
I don't know, it just never really takes off.
As much as you can give me in those courses.
Yeah. Sounds so good.
I had so much fun with Blake.
He's still a celebrity, but he feels more to me
like a normal person.
I was thinking, I was like,
"I could go sit in your chair."
You wanna take it? My spot?
You want me to just will it to you?
I'll be coach next. Okay.
Yeah, you can put me in the will.
They have seat warmers in them, too. No, they do not.
There's a switch underneath. No massage chairs?
No, that's why I'm leaving.
Yeah. [ Chuckles ]
* If I die young, bury me in satin *
Singing "If I Die Young," here's Mary Kate Connor.
[ Cheers and applause ]
[ Strums guitar ]
* If I die young, bury me in satin *
* Lay me down on a bed of roses *
* Sink me in the river at dawn *
* Send me away with the words of a love song *
[ Cheers and applause ]
* Lord, make me a rainbow, I'll shine down on my mother *
* She'll know I'm safe with you *
* When she stands under my colors *
* Oh, and life ain't always what you think it ought to be, no *
* It ain't even gray, but she buries her baby *
* The sharp knife of a short life *
* And, well, I've had just enough time *
* If I die young, bury me in satin *
* Lay me down on a bed of roses *
* Sink me in the river at dawn *
* Send me away with the words of a love song *
* The sharp knife of a short life *
* And, well, I've had just enough time *
* So put on your best, boys, and I'll wear my pearls *
* What I never did is done *
* If I die young *
* Bury me in satin *
* Lay me down on a bed of roses *
* Sink me in the river at dawn *
* Send me away with the words of a love song *
* The sharp knife of a short life *
* And, well, I've had just enough time *
* Ohhh-whoooa, whoooa *
* I've had just enough time *
[ Cheers and applause ]
* So put on your best, boys, and I'll wear my pearls *
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Mary Kate, everybody.
That's what we like to see.
Alright, Coaches, let's get some thoughts.
Kelly, what'd you think?
Oh, my gosh. You're a magical storyteller.
I feel like you should maybe get into acting as well.
Your strength really is in that really intimate part.
It's almost like a broken little secret
that you're, like, relaying, and it's really, really cool.
Thank you. Niall?
Niall: This was different for you.
The tears at the end was -- it shows how much it meant to you.
But that performance was just so sweet.
Thank you. The way you told the story of that song,
even with your hands, was really nice to watch.
I'm very proud of you. Well done.
Thank you. Thank you, Niall. Chance.
So there were a lot of moments the pitch was a little bit off,
or, like, it got tripped up,
so this might be confusing when I say this,
but that was my favorite performance
from Team Blake today 'cause of how much emotion
you showed through it.
Mary Kate: Thank you.
Especially the last, like, soaring high note that you did,
it showed that you were still, like, ready to risk it,
like, you were still trusting your voice,
you're still trusting in your gift.
That shows a lot of promise.
I think if you were to go to the lives, you would kill it.
Thank you so much. Yeah, straight up.
Thank you, Chance. Mary Kate, let's talk to your coach.
Hi, Blake. Alright, Blake.
Hey, buddy.
What you did ultimately was deliver the message
in a way that was believable and authentic and real.
Great job. Yes.
Daly: How about another big hand for Mary Kate Connor?
[ Cheers and applause ]
Blake: Mary Kate was my Playoff Pass,
and I think she proved that she deserved that position.
This is the last time I'm ever gonna be able
to make a decision on this show again.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Mary Kate: The show has just been my dream
since I was a little girl,
and if this is my last performance ever,
I'm so thankful. [ Sniffles ]
Oh, man. I'm a mess. [ Laughs ]
I gotta go make another big, tall drink.
Wait, what are you doing? You need a drink?
Don't do anything weird.
[ Laughter ]
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back.
**
So... Your last season, huh?
[ Laughter ]
Alright, no, seriously. Listen up, guys. Okay.
Chance and I are carrying the load here today.
I've been honest and helpful.
I don't think you've been definitive, though.
I have been. What about you?
You haven't really been that definitive, like...
I'm just here. France, you know?
You're a little bit like France.
Switzerland. [ Laughs ]
I'm so sad for y'all. Are you freaking out right now?
Everybody on my team could win the whole show.
But what I'm -- So I don't think I can make the wrong decision.
I know, but it doesn't mean -- Well, that means you're making absolutely the wrong decision.
You're sending three winners home today.
Oh, yeah. But they win anyway.
That's something losers say. They're on "The Voice," baby.
[ Laughs ] I think we should get out there.
Alright. Thank you, America.
This was helpful.
Now it's the sister pop trio from Ohio.
Here is more now from Sorelle.
Chance: Sorelle is a really important part of my team.
Like, they're only group on the whole show.
They're incredibly experienced to be so young.
They have the ability to make the most beautiful harmonics
that you've ever heard.
Sorelle is my mini choir.
* Love you *
* I love you *
Kelly: Sorelle has this really incredible harmony thing going.
Everybody obviously can tell they're family.
They've been singing for a minute together.
Here we are. I know. Yeah.
In the big leagues.
Yeah, we love this song.
We, like, loved "Burlesque" as kids. Oh, wow.
It was, like, one of our favorite movies. Yeah.
So this song was, like, always playing in the house. Yeah, always.
* Ohhhh * Madi: For the playoffs, we'll be singing...
Together: "Something's Got A Hold On Me"...
by Etta James, Christina Aguilera's version.
Ana: Christina Aguilera,
she holds a special place in my heart.
When I was younger, I had this very low, raspy voice.
No other girl sounded like me. My sisters didn't sound like me.
No other girl in my classroom sounded like me.
I felt...different.
I always feared that maybe I would tie them down.
Seeing another woman that sounds like me
really changed my life.
I think that she brings something very, very important
to the group.
Her voice is personally one of my favorite voices
I've ever heard. Oh, stop.
I think there's a lot of solo parts.
Yeah. Yeah. And I think that one of you guys' strong suits
is the ability to do harmonics.
Mm-hmm. I honestly think in the first verse solo,
* I get a feeling that I *
* Never, never, never *
* Had before *
Ooh. Does that make sense?
* I get a feeling that I *
* Never, never, never *
* Never had before, no, no *
Boom! That's fire.
That "Never, never, never" sounds like The Supremes.
[ Chuckles ] Woo-hoo!
* Let me tell you now, my heart feels heavy *
Ana: It's truly amazing having Chance as our coach.
He's taught us so much already about stage presence,
about how to really incorporate our harmonies to lift the song.
* Love's sure gonna put a hurtin' on me *
I feel like that's just set it off. Yeah.
We don't have to do -- add too much more.
That's hot.
It's crazy how many amazing artists
are in this competition right now,
but we're hoping he goes with us. [ Chuckles ]
Let's get it. Let's go to the playoffs, y'all.
Thank you.
Chance: Sorelle's advantage is that they know themselves
so well that they really gel,
and if they can keep that identity as a trio
and keep it uniform,
I think that they could end up being in the top two.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Here they come. People are choosing some great songs today, y'all.
With "Something's Got A Hold On Me,"
here's Sorelle.
**
* Whoa *
* Sometimes I get a good feeling, yeah * Whoa!
* Yeah *
* I get a feeling that I *
* Never, never, never *
* Never had before *
* No, no *
* Yeah *
* And I just got to tell you right now that I *
* Ooooh * * I believe *
* I really do believe that * You go ahead.
* Something's got a hold on me, yeah *
* Ohh, it must be love *
* Whoa *
* Something's got a hold on me right now, child *
* Ohh, it must be love * Dude!
* Let me tell you now *
* I've got a feeling, I feel so strange *
* Everything about me seems to have changed *
* Step by step, I got a brand-new walk *
* I even sound sweeter when I talk *
* I said, oh * * Oh *
* Oh * * Oh *
* Oh * * Oh *
* Whoa, I said, baby *
* Oh, it must be love *
* Love * * Let me tell you now *
* My heart feels heavy *
* My feet feel light *
* I shake all over, but I *
* Feel alright *
* I never felt like this before *
* Something's got a hold on me that won't let go *
* I never thought this could happen to me *
* Got me happy without the misery *
* I never thought it could be this way *
* Love's sure gonna put a hurting on me *
* I said, oh * * Oh *
* Oh * * Ohhh *
* Whoa *
* I said, baby *
* Oh, it must be love *
* Oh, it must be love *
* Yeah, he walks like love *
* Yeah, he walks like love *
* Yeah, he talks like love *
* Yeah, he talks like love *
* Makes me feel alright *
* Makes me feel alright *
* In the middle of the night *
* In the middle of the night *
* Whoa, oh-ohh *
* Something's got a hold *
* On me *
* Oh, it's got a hold on me *
* Na, na, na, na *
* Oh, hey, yeeahh *
* Hey *
* Yeaaaah *
Ow!
[ Cheers and applause ]
Daly: That is Sorelle in the playoffs.
How good is that? My team is crazy.
Wow. Let's get some thoughts from our coaches. Blake.
I mean, come on.
This is cheating.
[ Laughter ]
It's too perfect.
I loved the individual moments that you guys had.
It was like, "Oh, you think we all three
can't do this separately, too?
Like, watch this." You know?
I mean, you're gonna put them through, aren't you?
You putting those through?
Ah, we'll talk about it.
Thanks, Blake. Yeah.
Niall, give us some thoughts.
The energy off you guys is insane.
Like, what did you grow up listening to?
There's a lot of stuff. A little bit of everything.
Yeah. We listened to this a lot.
Do you, like, ever listen to, like, '40s music?
You know, when all those -- can hear you sing, like,
"Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," like, all that kind of stuff as well.
Yes. We love that.
We study that to study our harmonies. Yeah.
That's why it's like that. It's so tight.
You definitely study 'cause it's ridiculously tight.
It's phenomenal. And, Chance, hell of an arrangement.
Whoever was involved in that, yourself.
Oh, I think you'd be missing a beat if you didn't have these
with you in the semifinals, for sure. Thank you.
Thank you. Daly: Thank you, Coach. Kelly?
What you're doing is so fresh.
It's just, like, unlike anyone else.
I think that makes you stand out.
Thank you. Thank you so much.
Daly: Alright, Sorelle, let's talk to your coach.
Chance: I'm so proud.
Every time you guys get onstage,
it just blows everybody away.
And you guys have just been so receptive to all the notes.
And so y'all killed it. Thank you.
Thank you. How about another big hand for Sorelle,
ladies and gentlemen?
Sorelle was amazing.
Niall: Smashed.
They're one of my favorite things
about working on this show because I love
playing with harmonics.
They really went for it on this one.
That did not make it easier.
That was crazy. Yeah.
Their performance was phenomenal today.
If Team Niall don't win, Sorelle deserves it.
What are you gonna do? I have no idea.
I'm about to make the toughest decision of the season.
Maybe toughest decision of my life. I don't know.
Daly: Coming up...
It's time to find out who will move on
to the semifinals.
Why is it so hard for me? Freaking out about this.
I would have quit a season before
had I known that's how bad this sucks.
* This is "The Voice" *
Daly: Welcome back to the playoffs.
Man: 10 seconds out.
I can't really even see myself
getting rid of any of these people.
That's what's hard. [ Exhales deeply ]
Man: Here we go. Your last one.
It's the last brain cell you have to use
ever in your life. [ Laughter ]
[ Cheers and applause ]
Blake: Yeah! Here we go!
It is time to find out who will move on to the semifinals.
We're starting tonight with Team Blake.
Please welcome them center stage. Team Blake!
[ Cheers and applause ]
**
Congratulations to all of you
on an incredible playoff performance.
Blake, are you ready?
No, I'm nervous.
Only two can represent you in the Top 8 live show.
Before we get your decision,
what would you like to say to your team?
Uh...for my journey to go out
with five absolutely amazing vocalists,
and -- and by the way, really great people,
it's literally storybook stuff
for me to go out with a group like this.
I just can't thank you enough for all your hard work.
And I'm sorry about this for three of ya.
I would have quit a season before
had I known that's how bad this sucks.
But it is what it is, so...
Alright, Blake, who is the first artist moving on?
[ Dramatic music plays ]
**
So the first artist advancing is...
NOIVAS.
NOIVAS moving on to the live semifinals!
Blake: NOIVAS, I mean, he just does these huge performances
that he sings with everything he has in his body.
[ Cheers and applause ] Good job, buddy.
There's no way to deny this guy's talent.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Alright, here we go. There are four artists left.
Blake, who is your final artist moving on?
[ Groans ]
[ Dramatic music plays ]
**
The second artist advancing to the lives...
**
Grace. [ Cheers and applause ]
Grace, congratulations!
Blake: I mean, I had to pick Grace West.
She is the real deal. She is pure country.
My dream was, since this is my last season,
that I could go into the lives with a country artist,
and she is absolutely the perfect country artist
to have for this moment.
Thank you. [ Chuckles ] You deserve it, kid.
Grace! [ Laughs ] Congratulations.
I'm sorry, you guys. It's okay.
This has been the toughest thing they've ever asked me to do.
We're going into the lives now,
and I think the winner
is on Team Blake.
Daly: Two semifinalists are locked.
And now, another tough choice.
Please welcome Team Chance!
[ Cheers and applause ]
**
Only two can represent Team Chance
in the Top 8 live show.
Before we get to that big decision, Chance,
what would you first like to say to your team?
I'm incredibly proud of all of you guys.
You guys are just awesome individuals.
You guys have true love for music,
which we see every week when you guys come up here.
Everybody, top to bottom, should be winning this show.
Daly: Well said, Coach,
and congratulations on a great season so far.
Chance, who's the first artist that is moving on?
[ Dramatic music plays ]
**
The first artist advancing...
...is Sorelle.
Daly: Sorelle! The pop trio.
Congratulations!
There's no other Sorelle on this show.
They needed to be in the Top 8 where I get to do arrangements
and vocal splits and work with them, like, almost like a choir.
Amazing. Y'all are amazing.
We just have a great connection,
and then they have a great connection.
Daly: Alright, Chance, this is it.
Four of your artists are left.
Who is the last artist moving on?
Wow. Why is this so hard for me?
It is really hard for him.
He's been stressed about it all day.
Literally. Freaking out about this.
All you guys are individually amazing, man.
Uh...
the second artist advancing to lives...
...is Ray. Daly: Ray!
Chance: Ray is an amazing artist.
I think he has potential
not just as a vocalist, but as a writer.
And I'm always just looking for uniqueness.
I think that what he brings to the show is himself.
[ Cheers and applause ]
We are Team Chance. We are Team Chance.
It's just us now. It's just us now, so...
Crazy. This is crazy.
Oh, man. That's hard. That was tough.
I'm beyond excited going into live shows.
And yeah, we're in it for the gold.
We're trying to take it all the way.
That's horrible. [ Laughs ] Blake: It's ruthless.
I am so not looking forward to next week.
Now I'm just gonna go out like a -- like a rebel.
