[The Wolf Princess]

[Episode 22]

This is the place where I found three corpses before.

That's right.

Get the corpses out first and stop the carriage farther away.

- Okay, go. - Go, go, go.

They are here. Let's go.

Go, go, go.

How bold! Attacking officials!

Do you not want to live anymore?

Which government office are you from?

Who asked you to collect corpses?

Who are you?

Are you qualified to ask me?

Am I qualified by this?

Am I?

Hero, calm down.

We are just following our superior's order.

Take me to your superior.

Okay! Okay!

I'll take you there right now!

- Boss. - They can't be saved.

Inspector Department?

Does Southern Chu have this department?

The case ought to be stopped here.

There's no need to investigate now.

Why? We had a hard time having got this far.

Anyway, stop here.

Let's go back.

Ling Long?

Boss, this...

Now that you're here, what are you hiding from?

Come out!

I beg you to forgive me, Consort Li.

I didn't mean to offend you.

I really have something to discuss with you.

In order to avoid those people in the palace,

I took such an unwise decision.

Consort Li?

Not calling me mother-in-law anymore?

Look at your sad face.

Did you quarrel with Ling Long?

If we really had some spats

then it wouldn't matter.

Last night after the secret conversation with you,

when she went back, her attitude to me was as cold as frost and ice.

I want to know why.

What do you think?

Maybe there's something she wants to hide about the Wolf King energy in her body?

The reason why Ling Long did it

is to protect herself,

and also to protect you.

[Today, Ling Long returned...]

Lady, you've been writing for a long time.

Take a break.

You're just in time.

The money we have earned before is all saved in uncle's pharmacy, right?

Yes. The pharmacy sends the accounts every month.

And I've checked them all, no problem.

[Thank you.]

Take this handwritten letter to take 50,000 taels of silver.

According to this invitation,

prepare a gift for each royal elder

and invite them to the ceremony in five days where I'll have an audience with my father.

But, Lady,

didn't you say we need to avoid meeting them?

Some people, some things I can't avoid but

will have to face them sooner or later.

Lady, why do I feel so insecure?

It's better to be in Western Turk than now.

Being a pawn is free from worry.

Why don't we go back to Western Turk?

Don't get involved in this mess.

Enough.

Do as I say.

Consort Li, Lady is...

I heard it.

Consort Li, please persuade Lady!

I've been with her for so many years

but I have never seen her look so bad.

[Today, Ling Long returned to Southern Chu...]

Just do as what she said.

But... But...

Consort Li!

It's so late, why do you come personally?

If there's something wrong, just let Xiao Jin pass on a message.

Uncle,

there is no time to elaborate on the details.

Ask your family to pack up immediately

and leave Southern Chu after dawn.

Okay.

Also, I've said a few years ago

to buy a secluded house

and it can't be in your name or mine.

It is already prepared, it is very secluded.

I've let one of the elders of the family take care of it.

You can rest assured.

Good, I'll use it in a few days.

Have him get ready.

Is it so urgent?

Okay, I'll arrange it.

I have to go.

Uncle, remember.

You must leave tomorrow.

Ling Long!

You are an independent child.

I never meddle in your business.

But this time,

you must be careful.

Princess Ling Long, please stay.

There's an invitation from Fourth Young Master.

Ling Long, whatever you're planning,

stop right now.

You have guessed what I'm going to do?

If it's not a matter of life and death,

you would never come to your uncle personally.

You're risking your life!

You had someone keep an eye on me?

Why?

You've known it for a long time who the mastermind is, right?

How did you know?

In Mi Ya's secret chamber.

I found some letters. These stationery papers are used for the special use of Southern Chu Palace.

I've seen them before.

These stationary papers are indeed used by the royal family of Southern Chu.

There are people from the Southern Chu royal family?

Things in the secret chamber...

You've already seen it?

You already knew who wrote the secret letter

but pretended that you didn't know

and lead us there deliberately.

I wasn't sure at the beginning.

Then...

I saw you steal that secret letter

so I became sure.

Someone who can make you lose your manners

can only be that person.

Why did you do this?

I–

I don't want you to be so close to my second brother.

And because of that Wolf King Xue Yin,

you've suffered so much.

I thought after you read the letter,

you'd give up.

After all, he's been a burden in your heart ever since you were young.

Ling Long, let me take you away.

We'll leave Southern Chu.

Leave this prison that has held you and Aunt Li for half a life.

If the prison is that Cold Palace,

I surely can just go away.

But my prison...

is in my heart.

Where am I supposed to flee to then?

What are you going to do?

Tell me and I'll do it for you.

I am now the Deputy Envoy

and also the Leader of the Leopard Riders.

They dare not defy me.

This cannot be solved with pure violence.

What's more,

no one can substitute me.

I don't care.

I won't let you get off the carriage today.

Even if you hate me

and don't want to see me again, it doesn't matter.

I just want you to live in peace.

Live?

During the past eighteen years,

I've been worried all the time like walking a tightrope.

If I have to live my whole life that way,

tell me. What's the point?

Ling Long, I swore to myself

that I'd protect you all my life.

I will never watch you do anything stupid.

Since childhood,

whenever I came across difficulties,

you always stood by me,

being considerate for me.

I feel so grateful

but also scared.

I am scared

that I will become increasingly used to your protection.

Isn't that good?

I have to untie my heart knots myself.

Yan Yu, don't you understand?

What I truly need is not such so-called protection.

Second Brother, what do you mean?

Mother-in-Law is so worried about you. Go back now.

Our words just now...

How much did you hear?

Just now?

I heard him saying that you were going to risk your life

and these stupid guys came here to cause trouble for me.

And then, I got rid of them.

Right?

Well...

Why aren't you stopping me?

Since you've decided, why should I stop you?

Second Brother, it's not the right time to be impulsive.

Mother-in-Law is really anxious about you.

Go back now. Listen to me.

By the way, could it be dangerous on your way back?

There is a small gate behind the Cold Palace.

Some guards and servants often go out to buy wine from there.

It is loosely administrated.

Okay, hurry and go back then.

- Brother Tong, send her back. - No problem, Boss. This way.

Ling Long! Ling Long!

Stop it! What are you doing?

Even if you want to go back to her, will you make it?

And will it change anything?

Why don't you just bring Brother Tong down?

Second Brother, if you let her go now,

you will definitely regret it afterward!

If you don't let her go,

you will regret it in the future.

What do you mean?

Do you have a plan?

Listen! Whatever you are planning,

you shouldn't put Ling Long at risk.

Do you hear me?

My plan is written down here.

Whether you agree or not,

after you read it, remember to burn it. Okay?

By the way, you should go back and rest early, too.

Tomorrow's going to be a big performance.

See you.

- Boss. - Is there any news from Father?

Master Yan has already accepted the cause of death of Wolf King

- and no longer opposes the marriage. - Great.

It's just... Are you really going to make this matter big?

I can't find the truth, do you think I can live with that?

Go and tell the Wolf guard

everything is going as planned.

Aren't you worried for Ling Long at all?

Understood.

Mother, Ling Long is here to greet you.

Come in.

Mother.

What are you doing?

My daughter is going to see the emperor,

I surely should accompany her.

Mother-in-Law.

You are going there, too?

As the fiance of the princess,

I've never seen the king before.

I have to be well-mannered.

Doctor Mi Sa?

The king is seriously ill.

I have to give medicine as tribute.

No. All of you can't go.

Lady!

Lady, Eunuch Chen has arrived.

The king has a decree.

"The king orders that

Princess Ling Long, Young Master Yan Qing, and Consort Li

go to see him at the palace right now."

Take the imperial edict.

I heard that king isn't in a good condition.

Doctor Mi Sa is a widely known and highly skilled doctor.

I'd like to recommend him to the king.

Your Highness, thank you for your kindness.

Then, we may go there together.

Thank you, Eunuch.

When did Eunuch Chen become so easy-going?

It took me a lot of money.

Let's go.

Let's go.

Greetings, Your Majesty!

All right, stand up.

The princess has returned home

and you vassals are all here to greet her.

The princess has made great contributions to our Southern Chu.

Now she has found her fiance.

As an elder, we should be here to congratulate her.

I have brought valuable medicines,

fine jades, and rare elixirs with me for Your Majesty.

Good. An outstanding man

and a perfect match for my daughter.

Ling Long made great contributions to the

rapprochement between the two countries, I hereby grant you a reward of 10,000 taels of gold

and some top-grade silk

for the family of Yan from Western Turk.

Thank you, Father.

It's my obligation to serve my country.

Consort Li,

who is this guy in white beside you?

Your Majesty, this is Doctor Mi Sa.

He is widely known by the people.

He will definitely cure your illness.

Mi Sa greets Your Majesty.

I admire Your Majesty and I am lacking in manners.

Even death cannot atone for my offense.

All right, stand up.

Consort Li is always concerned with my health

and taught my daughter well.

She also deserves to be rewarded.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

You have seen the princess's fiance now

and I'm tired.

That's all for today.

May I ask my mother and Yan Qing to leave first?

I have something else to tell Your Majesty and my uncles.

How about we talk about it some other day?

It is related to the survival of Southern Chu, which cannot be delayed.

- Please allow me to present. - What could it be?

Are there... Are there foreign enemies

going to attack us again?

Your Majesty, since the matter is crucial,

let's listen to Ling Long first.

As it is a family business of Southern Chu, it is inappropriate for us to hear.

We will leave now.

Your Majesty, I will leave as well.

Go then.

All right, go ahead.

Have Your Majesty and my uncles heard

of the serial murders happening in the city?

No wonder.

The victims were either newcomers or beggars on the street.

They are insignificant.

Ling Long, you cannot say that.

They are also citizens of our Southern Chu.

What Marquis Yonglie said is absolutely true.

Due to the responsibility of guarding the land and protecting the citizens,

Ling Long has investigated the serial murder cases.

There are a total of seven corpses from both the victims and the criminals.

All of them are outside the imperial palace right now.

What's wrong with you, Mother-in-Law? Don't scare me.

I suddenly feel kind of dizzy.

This is a recurring symptom.

I just need some rest.

Your Highness, you are too tired which turned into an illness.

You do need some rest!

Isn't she a consort of the king? Why would she be ill out of tiredness?

Eunuch Chen, I wanted to ask you this long before.

I am now engaged with Ling Long.

Why would her mother still live in the Cold Palace?

Is he looking down upon our Yan family?

No, Second Young Master, don't misunderstand.

Qing'er, don't make things difficult for Eunuch Chen.

It is me who insists to stay in the Cold Palace.

You know I like serenity.

Yes, yes, yes.

I would like to swear on my life,

I never cheat on the foods and clothing

for Her Highness.

Cut the crap. Find a place for us to have a rest.

Exactly.

Well...

Okay, follow me.

Come on.

Consort Li. Young Master Yan Qing.

If you need anything,

just ask them.

Servant!

Consort Li is indisposed.

Take good care of her.

Yes.

Your Highness,

then I'll leave for now.

Thank you, Eunuch Chen.

Is everybody here?

That's how the case came about.

Now, the earth kiln outside the city has been sealed up.

All the corpses have been registered and recorded at the bureau.

Those narrowly escaped beggars

also provided their testimonies.

They used human blood to make medicine?

This is witchcraft!

- Yeah! - In broad daylight, how could this be happening?

And in the capital city, too?

Yeah!

Ling Long,

you did quite well.

You deserve to be rewarded.

The case has not been solved yet.

Father, you'd better wait until Ling Long

apprehends the culprits.

So to speak,

you have someone to suspect?

Before that, Yan Qing and I discovered a Black Robe Organization.

They used similar witchcraft to make the so-called Immortality Pill.

With our own hands, we arrested the leader of that organization.

His name was Mi Ya.

Mi Ya used this bamboo whistle to control his subordinates

and to kill people knowing his secrets. Coincidentally,

there was someone in black at the kiln outside the city who came to disrupt our investigation.

He also used a similar bamboo whistle.

If I remember it correctly,

this skill of killing someone unknowingly

is a lost knowledge from mystic tricks of Southern Chu.

You mean, among those mystic tricks masters, there are Mi Ya's accomplices?

More than that.

This master passed all he knew to Mi Ya,

helping him perpetrate crimes.

But mystic masters of Southern Chu

all work for the Inspector Department.

Yes.

Those mystic masters

have plenty of disciples

while some of them might go astray,

that's inevitable.

Yes, yes, yes. It is highly likely.

The people helping the mastermind to dispose of the corpse and destroy the evidence

have been arrested by me.

They have similar tokens with them.

Tokens?

This is?

Inspector Department?

How is that possible?

The tokens of the Inspector Department.

The Inspector Department is personally led by His Majesty.

Ling Long, is it possible that you were deceived by someone?

Uncles, you are more experienced here.

Would you please identify whether the token is genuine or fake?

Well...

Yeah, no doubt. It's from the Inspector Department.

It is genuine.

Seems that...

I failed to control the Inspector Department properly.

Your Majesty, this problem matters to the stability of our country.

Please seal up the Inspector Department immediately.

Anyone involved in this

should be executed to ensure the stability of our country

and to pacify the people.

You are right.

Marquis Yonglie has always been loyal and honest.

I will assign this task to you.

Yes, Your Majesty.

Wait!

What else do you want to say?

It is true that the Inspector Department should be investigated.

But the real mastermind is not in the department.

Where is he?

This is the letter written by the mastermind to Mi Ya.

He used the special paper for the royal family of Southern Chu.

This is truly the same paper that we use.

Are you suspecting our royal family?

Take it easy, Second Uncle.

This paper is different from yours.

Really?

I can't tell the difference.

The difference lies here.

My mother used to diagnose illness for the eunuch who administrates the paper.

According to her,

the special paper used by His Majesty

must be scrutinized by the Inspector Department.

So when making the paper,

craftsmen would press a subtle mark at the corner for identification.

In other words,

a paper with such a subtle mark

may only be used by His Majesty.

Well...

It might be that someone from the Inspector Department

used the paper without approval?

If that's true, why didn't he cut off the mark

in case of being exposed?

Ling Long,

who are you suspecting?

You'd better think it over before you speak.

In the past 18 years,

Mi Ya, from an outcast,

built the Black Robe Organization across the country,

slew numerous lives,

and was still able to escape.

There is only one reasonable explanation.

The man who supported him and remains hidden behind all of this

is...

the King of Southern Chu.

How is that possible?

A load of crap!

You said I am the accomplice of Mi Ya?

Why don't you bring him here to confront me?

You know Mi Ya is dead.

You are not able to acquire the Immortality Pill from him anymore

so you desperately made medicine with blood

and committed several murder cases in the city.

Okay! Okay!

You are such a good daughter of mine.

The dead cannot give any witness.

How dare you tarnish your father?

Where's your respect for Southern Chu,

for the elderly, and for me, your father?

You want evidence?

Okay.

Don't hide anymore.

Everyone has seen it.

What's going on?

Your Majesty! You...

What happened to you?

You've been taking the Immortality Pill.

Now, you abruptly stopped.

Its power backfired and infiltrated into your body

so he ages much faster and will perish quickly.

It's so foolish of you!

As the king of this country,

how could you be so blind?

If this scandal spreads all over the country,

there must be chaos!

Yeah!

How could this be happening?

If the blood of vagrants and beggars are useless,

your next step...

Were you planning to use the blood of the royal family instead?

The blood of the royal family?

Such being the case, we must make a decision soon.

I suggest according to the rules of the royal family,

Your Majesty, please claim illness and abdicate right now.

Elect another capable man to rule Southern Chu.

Your Majesty,

considering the situation now,

this is the only option left.

Your Majesty,

we have to keep this confidential

from the public.

We agree!

Are you impeaching me?

You'd better figure out

if you are able to leave here alive first!

Where is the Inspector Department?

Here!

This is?

What do you want to do?

All the people here are elders and brothers of our family.

Are you going to kill your family?

Forget about brothers.

Forget about blood relations.

Anyone who dares to challenge me is my enemy!

My dear daughter.

Do you have any last words to say?

It... makes things simple now.

Thank you for making the call for me.

What do you mean?

I was hesitating

and thought you might have been forced into this.

Now I realize, you are purely evil.

During the past eighteen years,

I've had a knot in my heart.

I didn't understand

why you did this to me.

What made you think I didn't deserve to be your daughter?

Now I understand

you don't deserve to be my father!

Shut up!

You are my daughter

but you go against my will.

I gave you life

and I can take it back at any time!

Even a vicious tiger will not eat its cubs.

- You can't– - Don't move!

And you,

my dear brothers.

I'm going to drink your blood!

The more you like threatening others with death,

the more you are afraid of death. Right?

How could you have the power of the Wolf King in you?

Ling Long dares to stand here today

because I never thought of leaving here safely.

Even if I am going to die today,

I will not allow you to continue your vicious actions

with the lives of innocent people!

Ling Long, don't!

Yan Qing?

Ling Long, I'm here.

Charge!

Come on, let's go.

Go!

How are you?

Child, why are you so silly?

Ling Long, how are you doing?

Are you okay?

She's fine.

Fortunately, the power of the Wolf King did not completely initiate

which didn't hurt her tendons and vessels.

Why did you come?

How could you be so silly?

If I didn't come,

were you going to die for this?

Ling Long, what did I teach you?

Qing'er came all the way here

to find out the cause of death of his mother.

You acted on your own, it's very inappropriate.

- I... - Rest assured, Ling Long.

Leave everything else

to me.

How did Wolf King Xue Yin die?

Answer me!

I don't know Xue Yin.

You are lying.

You forced Wolf King Xue Yin to die.

Consort Li! Consort Li,

you will betray me, too?

I was never loyal to you.

What do you mean by betrayal?

Consort Li, eighteen years ago,

the royal family of Southern Chu did send soldiers to save Wolf King Xue Yin.

We were witnesses.

It is concerned with national affairs.

Please be cautious when speaking.

You were all cheated by him.

What happened?

At that time, out of nowhere, he managed to know

the secret of the power of the Wolf King.

So he wanted to take possession of it in order to be immortal.

To do that, he instigated influential officials across the country to capture Xue Yin.

But he disguised himself as a savior

and took Xue Yin back to the Imperial City of Southern Chu.

In order to keep the whole action secret,

he killed or imprisoned all his wives and consorts.

By then, I just gave birth to Ling Long

and I was imprisoned in the Cold Palace with my daughter.

I planned to wait until Ling Long was older

and I would pretend to die with witchcraft

so as to take her out of this prison.

Unexpectedly, an accident happened

which completely changed our lives.

I remembered that

Xue Yin figured out your conspiracy before the marriage

and narrowly escaped with severe wounds.

When she passed by the Cold Palace,

she suddenly found that

Ling Long had a rare body to foster the Wolf Heart.

What are you doing? Let go of my child!

I beg you! Please spare my child!

I'm sorry.

I am forced to do this.

Xue Yin knew she was going to die.

But the Wolf Heart was concerned with

the survival of everyone in the Wolf Tribe

and it should not dissipate

or end up in the hands of evildoers.

She had no choice

but to hide the Wolf Heart in Ling Long.

Later on, I found out

she jumped into the volcano in front of many soldiers

making people think the Wolf Heart

was gone with her.

She kept her promise with her life.

I thought the death of Xue Yin

could wind down the whole matter.

But that person refused to stop!

He spared no effects to kill the Wolf Tribe

and to extract their remaining power from the Wolf Tribe.

As for this, I had no choice but to suppress the Wolf Heart with a gold needle,

and with Ling Long

live a suffering life in the Cold Palace for eighteen years.

Because that was the only place

for us to stay safe.

Could the so-called Wolf King energy

really make people immortal?

There is no such thing in this world that can make people immortal.

Are you okay?

It is the law of nature to live and die someday.

If anyone goes against nature,

you will be exactly like him.

I didn't expect

after so many years' pursuit,

the Wolf Heart was actually in my daughter's body.

Ling Long,

for the sake that we are father and daughter,

hand that Wolf Heart over to me

and save your father's life.

The Wolf Heart belongs to the Wolf Tribe.

I have no right to give it to others.

What's more,

you are also the culprit who got Wolf King Xue Yin killed.

But you are my daughter!

How could you just watch me die?

Not anyone can inherit the Wolf King energy.

If you try to take possession of it forcibly,

you will die faster.

As long as there is a glimmer of hope,

I will give it a shot!

If you take the Wolf Heart by force,

she will die.

You are risking her life to save yourself?

She's my daughter.

I gave her life.

She is obliged to sacrifice for Southern Chu

and her father.

From now on,

I'm not your daughter anymore.

You are no longer the King of Southern Chu either.

I have no obligation to sacrifice for you.

Okay.

Since you are so stubborn,

don't blame me for being ruthless.

Be careful, it's the mystic tricks of Southern Chu.

Back away.

Mother.

What's going on?

Seven days ago,

Mi Sa and I sprinkled medicinal powder

all over the palace by using the waterway.

Those who practice mystic tricks

are very sensitive to this poison.

They got poisoned long ago.

But the effect needs to be triggered

by the usual diaphoretic drug.

Mother,

that's why you asked me to wait 7 days?

My silly girl.

If the young rabbit is hurt,

even the mother rabbit will rush up and bite people.

How dare you hurt my daughter in front of me?

How dare you?

Give up.

Do you really think I lost?

You underestimated me.

So you'd already done mystic tricks on them a long time ago?

Yan Qing,

kill all of them if you can.

The Second Young Master of Yan slaughters the royal members of Southern Chu.

Then the war between the two countries will last forever.

If I can't live,

I'll let everybody die with me together!

You...
