This time, we explore a cave hotel

carved deep into the cliffs
of southern Italy...

..an Art Deco palace on an island
off the coast of Devon...

..and an extraordinary escape
set in the treetops
of a forest in Sweden.

Our adventure begins deep
in the rainforests of Cambodia.

Cambodia sits at the heart
of Southeast Asia,

a country famed for
its extraordinary ancient temples.

The vast, forested
Cardamom National Park

dominates the southwest
of the country.

It's an exceptionally diverse
wilderness that remains
largely unexplored.

On the banks
of the Tmor Rung River,

far from any towns, villages
or even roads,

the forest canopy is broken
by the peaks of some tents.

This is the Shinta Mani Wild Hotel,

a series of tents
deep in the wilderness
that offer a truly secret escape.

The man responsible for creating
this unique luxury hotel

is architect, interior designer
and conservationist Bill Bensley.

It is almost impossible to find.

There's no signs for anything,
no signs anywhere.

So it is very secret.

It takes three hours of driving
from the capital, Phnom Penh,

to reach the hotel site.

Then, to get to Reception,
guests climb a seven-storey tower

that pokes above the jungle canopy.

And a leap of faith...

Wooh-hoo-hoo!

..takes on a 400-metre journey
over the rainforest...

Whee-hee!

This is amazing!

..that lands them
in this unique hotel.

Hey, hey!

15 tents dot a one-mile stretch
of jungle-wrapped river.

Each tent is lifted into the canopy
on a series of steel stilts.

On top, a meticulously
detailed structure

holds the canvas over
a 100-square-metre private suite.

Each tent contains an air-
conditioned bedroom with en suite,

an outdoor living and dining area

and a wooden deck
with riverside bathtub.

The hotel is a platform
to experience the incredible
beauty of this region.

BILL: Mother Nature
creates perfection.

How amazing.

So my ethos is to design something
and build something

that can live with Mother Nature
for a long time.

Look at that view!

Guests here find themselves
immersed in a landscape

of rivers,
waterfalls and rainforest.

Inside, rooms are furnished
with brass and dark woods.

Each tent is concealed from view
from other guests,

creating a sense of
isolation in nature.

You might think it's very brave
to build a resort so deep
in the jungle and hard to find,

but, for Bill,
this place does much more
than just look after travellers.

In 2010, Bill heard
this area of the national park

was being put up for auction

and was earmarked to be redeveloped
into a titanium mine.

This gorgeous piece of property
would have been completely gone,
had that happened.

Bill bought this land
to save it from destruction

and he now works to make sure
it remains protected.

These sort of places are important
for people to go to

because, if they CAN go there,

they can learn how important it is
to conserve it.

Saving this pristine expanse
of wilderness was the easy part.

Actually building the hotel here
pushed Bill's team to the limits.

They couldn't cut down a single
tree in the creation of the hotel.

I've worked on 220 hotels
in something like 35 countries,

and this by far
was the toughest project.

They couldn't build temporary
access roads to the site,

so materials were pulled by oxcart
or hand-carried.

Then, in the midst of construction,

the biggest flood in a decade
hit the site.

Oh, my God! It was tough.

The project
was finally completed in 2018,

and the first
paying guests arrived.

Assistant camp manager Mac
gets to live here full time.

No other hotels in the world
give you this experience

in the middle of the jungle.

It's really wild.

There is a little walkway up here.
It leads to the swimming pool.

It's Mac's job
to run the hotel day-to-day.

Because the resort is so remote,

Mac must provide the guests
with everything they need.

He has a team of 120 staff,

including cleaners,
butlers and rangers,

who keep this wilderness hotel
running smoothly.

One of the biggest challenges is
making sure there's enough food
on site for the guests.

We try to be
as sustainable as we can.

We have our own farm and
we try to support the local farmer.

Eggs aren't the only thing
they can find nearby.

Today, chef Tim Pheak forages
in the land around the hotel.

He looks for clues
to lead him to edible plants.

We can recognise the flower,
like this,

and then we follow
with the branch, here,

and then we can see,
there's the root.

This is wild potato.

We need to get some more.

It grows half a metre
below the surface of the ground.

Other items are easier to harvest.

So this sour leaf we can use
with a soup or a garnish

and we put in salad.

He finds one rather unusual
ingredient.

Red ants.

They dunk the leaf in water

so the ants don't escape
before they get to the kitchen.

With a bumper haul
of this local delicacy,

Tim returns to base
to begin turning them into dinner.

Tim works with
a team of five people

to prepare all the meals
for the hotel guests.

Today he uses
the foraged wild potato...

..while the sour leaves
and red ants

become part of his speciality,
sour salad.

With no other restaurants
for miles around,

it's important that the guests
like these dishes.

Luckily, Tim, the chef,
clearly knows how to make the most

out of the hotel's
incredible location.

Beyond the rangers,
the hotel offers work to people
who come from nearby settlements.

They employ 120 people,

the majority of whom live
in a purpose-built staff village.

For Bill, this is as important
as the hotel itself.

By giving them
this alternative employment,

the whole village of Tmor Rung,

which were basically
hunters and loggers,

has now turned into something
a little bit more sustainable.

The village is the base
for the teams

who pull off the incredible feat
of providing five-star service

in one of the world's
last great wildernesses.

This place should remain
a secret to be discovered

for many years to come.

Still to come, a getaway

in Wales.

We're exploring some of the world's
most unusual holiday getaways,

from cottages
built on a field of lava

to eco-lodges hidden in the jungle.

Our next stop is Italy.

The sun-drenched south of Italy
is renowned for its relaxed
pace of life.

230 miles southeast
of the capital, Rome,

is a town where it feels like
life might not have changed
for thousands of years.

This is Matera,
an ancient clifftop settlement,

thought to be one of the oldest
continuously inhabited places
on earth.

And in its oldest quarter,
there's a secret.

Here, camouflaged
in a limestone cliff face,

is the Sextantio
Le Grotte della Civita,

a hotel set inside a series
of ancient cave dwellings.

It was the idea of maverick Italian
entrepreneur Daniele Kihlgren.

There was a place
where nobody was supposed to go.

It was even dangerous
to go in here.

No-one would never ever imagine
that it would become a resort.

Each room in this unusual hotel
is a historic cave house.

Some of these dwellings
date back thousands of years.

In the 20th century, many of them
stood derelict for decades.

Daniele wanted to keep the history
of these houses alive

by giving them a new purpose.

I just had the project in my mind.

It has a unique identity.

At the hotel's lowest level,
five storeys deep,

there's a reception cave
and a dining room cave

surrounded by rooms
that are excavated up to
30 metres deep into the hillside.

In the floors above, the rooms
follow the natural contours
of the limestone rock.

The hotel narrows
as it gets higher up the cliff

until, on the fifth floor,
there's just one suite.

These caves were derelict
when Daniele first bought them.

This is one of the larger rooms
that we have,

but every room is different.

We tried to preserve
as much as we could

to maintain
the identity of the place.

The rooms are characterised
by a monastic simplicity.

No televisions, minibars
or even curtains here.

There are just candles and lanterns

to light the rustic,
minimal furniture.

The only standout modern feature
in the rooms is the bath.

Daniele's singular vision creates
a unique atmosphere for the guests.

WOMAN: I looked at the room
and I was just blown away.

The candle lights, the cave.

It was just...magic, in a way.
It was magic!

It's exactly the impact that
Daniele wanted the hotel to have.

And it even works on the locals.

Michele Centonze grew up a stone's
throw away from the caves.

When I started to work here,
I tried a couple of rooms.

I wasn't able to sleep at all
at the beginning

because I was thinking about
the history of that cave.

I heard the voices of my ancestors.

Most rooms have just one source
of natural light -

the front door.

The housekeepers here
have come up with a novel way
to see what they're doing.

They wear a head torch
because it's important
for us to deeply clean the caves.

At the lowest point in the hotel,
there's a communal dining area.

This space used to be a church,

first built and used for worship
in the 13th century.

Here they serve a breakfast that
re-creates the traditional recipes

of the people
who used to live in the caves.

With Daniele's drive
to save this site

and the tireless work
of locals like Michele,

this is a hotel
that will be keeping
a unique piece of history alive

for generations to come.

MICHELE: I think that
this kind of restoration work

is a legacy for the town.

Now we are working
for our old town.

We are so proud of it.

There are retreats hidden
in unusual places across the world.

Our next stop is Wales.

Cardigan Bay in Wales
is full of drama and intrigue.

The spectacular clifftops, crashing
waves and smugglers' coves here

attract visitors and adventurers
from far and wide.

Isolated far from the nearest town,

this road appears to lead
straight to...nothing.

But at its very end,
carved into the rock face
300 metres above the sea

and almost completely
camouflaged by grass

is a getaway that sits
both underground

and soars sky-high.

It's called Caerwenfor,
or the Cliff Holiday Cottage.

It's literally built into the rock.

If you were walking
along the fields or nearby,

you wouldn't even know it was here.

The stone cottage
is sunk into cliffs
that formed 500 million years ago.

This remote getaway
is owned by lawyer Angharad

and her stonemason husband, John.

Many of our friends and family
thought we were mad buying
a house on the cliff.

You can't really see it
from anywhere.

We did manage to have a glimpse
of it from the coastal path

and thought, wow, that's amazing.

The building's architecture
seems to defy physics.

Inside, it is cleverly designed

to make the most of
its vertigo-inducing location.

The layout of the main floor
is completely open-plan

to make sure that no walls block
the spectacular sea views.

The sun sets directly underneath
the property in Caerwenfor.

Therefore it does have
the most amazing sunsets.

This clifftop hideaway
has a chic bedroom,

a spacious dining room

and a living area
with a wood-burning stove.

The kitchen shares
the stunning view

so you can pour your glass of wine
while enjoying the vista.

John's skill
as a seventh-generation stonemason

meant he was perfectly suited to
fit the place out with luxurious
limestone tiles and worktops.

As a stonemason, I really couldn't
resist putting my stamp on it.

I've added the travertine
that you can see here.

That's to the bathrooms
and kitchen.

A second bedroom at the rear
trades views for luxury

but has a tantalising squint
of the sunsets.

The grass that carpets the cliff
rolls uninterrupted across
the building's roof

to enhance tranquillity inside
and secrecy out.

My favourite secret feature of the
property is the hot tub, located
right at the edge of the cliff,

and there's no better view
in Wales, in my opinion.

The house sits on a platform

painstakingly carved
out of the cliff face.

It means solid bedrock
cocoons the house,

so coastal cliff erosion
shouldn't be a problem.

But the tough slate that
this part of Wales is famous for,

squeezed and folded by millions
of years of earth movement,

posed serious challenges for
the team that built this wonder.

Local Jon Meirion remembers
the extraordinary spectacle

of its construction
back in the 1960s.

They were working on it
using dynamite...

SOUND OF EXPLOSION

..to blast the rock.

They had there a small excavator,

and that pushed the loose stones
over the edge down the slope there.

Suddenly one day
the little excavator disappeared.

The driver jumped off and it went
over the edge and tumbled down,

and it's still down there
on the rocks, I think.

Far from anywhere, and with
uninterrupted views to Ireland,

this cottage
seems to hover in the air,

offering warmth and romance
to anyone with a love of
adventure, wildlife

or head-spinning heights.

JOHN: The land height
being at 900 feet here,

we're afforded
equal amounts of sky and sea,

and I can't imagine
we'd want to be anywhere else,
really, on a nice day like today.

We feel very lucky
to own a property
in such a beautiful location,

and I don't think
you can beat this sea view.

GULLS CRY

Coming up, we visit the hotel
that was an inspiration

for the world's most successful
crime novelist.

We're exploring some of the world's
most secret escapes,

from jumbo jet hotels

to resorts that cling to glaciers.

Next, we visit the Devon coast.

With its sandy beaches,

picturesque fossil-filled cliffs

and ancient unspoiled moorland,

south Devon has become known as
the English Riviera.

Nestled on the coast here
is the village of Bigbury-on-Sea.

This village is famous not just for
its windsurfing and water sports

but also for something
that lies 250 metres offshore.

Burgh Island
and its secluded hotel.

Originally a holy island
called St Michael's,

in 1927 the renamed island
was sold to a rich industrialist

who had a vision of building
an Art Deco palace here.

And in 1929, the hotel opened its
doors and ushered in the Jazz Age.

BURST OF JAZZ MUSIC

The hotel is definitely
a hidden hotel. She's a hidden gem.

From the champagne,
chandeliers and cocktail shakers,

today this hotel sustains
the glamour of a bygone era.

With 25 rooms, everything here
has been restored back to
its Art Deco glory,

including the cocktail bar,

the hotel gardens

and the Grand Ballroom.

I like stepping back in time.

I think they've managed
to capture the era,

because everything
is touched by the decor.

Solid and imposing now,

back in the late 1920s,
building a hotel on a rocky island

with no power and no road

came with its own
set of challenges.

It's rumoured back in the day
they used to put a flag up
at the side of the hotel

to switch the electricity on,
which came from the hill
on the other side.

So logistically
it's not even just bringing
the bricks and mortar here.

It was bringing electricity, water,

just power in general
to run a hotel.

As the hotel is situated
on an island off the coast,

access here is restricted.

If you don't own a helicopter,

the only way to get here is via
a rather unique form of transport.

The sea tractor is the only vehicle
of its kind in the world.

The sea tractor
is our means of travel.

When the tide is in,
we need to use the sea tractor

to transport our guests across -

subject to weather conditions,
so we can't do it all the time.

BURST OF JAZZ MUSIC

When it first opened in 1929,

the hotel attracted
the cream of 1920s society.

Lord Mountbatten of Burma

and aviator Amy Johnson

have both sipped champagne here.

And one particular playwright and
actor was often seen in the bar.

Noel Coward would always
enjoy his martinis behind the bar.

He used to like it
in a very particular way,

with gin and very little vermouth.

He would like it very strong
and very dry.

Perhaps the hotel's
most famous visitor
was crime novelist Agatha Christie.

Out of her 66 detective novels,
two of her most famous,

And Then There Were None
and Evil Under The Sun,

were written here on the island

in the Agatha Christie Beach House.

She used to come here
because she loved the scenery,
she loved the surrounding areas.

It was also the place where
she would get the inspiration from.

The Beach House was built
especially for her
as a writer's retreat.

Christie came here to escape
the crowds and to write in peace.

The suite can now be rented
as part of the hotel.

It has spectacular views,

plenty of creature comforts,

and even a typewriter
if inspiration comes upon you.

I'm an Agatha Christie fan.

Watched all the films,
solved all the mysteries,

and this is just wonderful.

It's nostalgia that gives
this place its unique atmosphere.

One of the biggest attractions
would be the Art Deco architecture

of the hotel in the 1920s and '30s,
the glamour of the era.

And people really like to dress up.

They just want to come back in time
to the golden era of the past.

I do feel fabulous, I am 50,

and I feel very vintage.

I feel immersed
in the beautiful island

and all the history behind it.

It is definitely
a secret, hidden place

among the rocks and the sky.

The decor in the rooms heralds
a time when the champagne was cold

but the music was hot.

We tried to source
all the period's furniture.

Most of them have been here
since the '20s.

Keeping this island resort running
is no simple challenge.

It's very difficult
to look after the hotel
from a logistic point of view

because of bringing everything
over the sands to the hotel,

which we do.

Without doubt, we have challenges
on a daily basis.

All our food is sourced
within ten miles of the hotel.

We have to bring everything over
personally.

We can't be delivered to the door.

It's a mammoth task.

Because of the challenges
of the hotel's location,

many of the staff
also live on site.

We're at the mercy of the tide.
Everybody runs their life
on the island to the tide.

So we've all got apps on the phones

that basically tell us
when it's high tide or low tide.

Once a hidden cove, this is now
known as the Mermaid Pool.

We do have a swimming pool on
the island which is rather special.

It is a rock pool,
so it is built by nature.

Some of our guests want to bring
their period costume swimwear
as well,

and it just adds to
the atmosphere of the '20s.

I just swam in the Mermaid Pool
of Burgh Island

in a vintage costume

and it was freezing.

But it's OK, cos I'm off back

to Agatha Christie's Beach House,
where I'm staying,

to have some champagne,
and that will warm me up.

Still to come, a unique hotel
in the treetops of Sweden

and a converted
Second World War bunker in Wales.

from igloos hidden deep in snow

to a dream stay
for aviation enthusiasts

concealed in an airport itself.

Our next stop is Sweden.

50 kilometres south
of the Arctic Circle

in the heart of Swedish Lapland

is the remote village of Harads.

Thick forest covers the land here,
but look again.

Peeking through the pines and birch

you will see
a mesmerizing collage of
nature and futuristic architecture,

seven floating structures
that seem to defy gravity.

It's called the Treehotel.

You get the question, "Why are you
building this Treehotel here?"

and the simple answer is...

BOTH:We live here.
THEY CHUCKLE

Childhood sweethearts
Britta and Kent Lindvall

opened this sky-high retreat
in 2010.

They transformed a closed-down
retirement home into a guesthouse,

but when the opportunity came
to rent out a friend's treehouse
to visitors,

they had an idea.

It was really happy,
that experience,

to stay high up in a tree
with a connection to nature,

so it started to create
some interest from our side

to do something similar,
but better and closer.

To their delight the bank and local
government loaned them the cash

to get the project
literally off the ground,

seven starkly distinct
woodland wonders

designed by six different
architects from across Scandinavia,

although there were
a few key stipulations.

We said from the beginning
it must be a hotel room
hanging in living trees,

it must be connected to nature,

it must work year-round
in this climate

and it must be unique.

They opened the Treehotel
with four secluded suites.

The Bird's Nest,
shaped in the form

of one of the most natural things
to find in the forest.

The Blue Cone, now painted red,

based on accessibility
and simplicity.

There's the Mirrorcube.

And the Cabin.

The Mirrorcube is camouflaged
by mirrored walls reflecting
its surroundings.

It's a double room for two persons.

We say this is the invisible room.

Sometimes the guests
don't find the room

because it's blending in
in nature.

You can see a tree
in the middle here.
It's holding up the whole room.

This room has a weight of six
tonnes, and you can see down here

there are metal brackets
and they're adjustable.

That means when a tree grows,
we open every year.

And then you have a stair
up to the second floor.

When you are on the balcony
you are hidden by glass.
Nobody can see you.

But you can see the nature,
and hopefully the Northern Lights.

Although starkly different,

all the treehouses
needed expert engineering
to place them in position.

They are prepared in pieces,
preconstructed,

and we take them, some parts,
with a truck coming up here

and have a crane, hang them up
and connect it to the trees.

Now we know what the size
of a tree, this size, can hold,

it can hold 15-20 tonnes,

we must calculate
how high can you hang them.

Not too high
because it can be dangerous.

And the architects want it
as high as possible,

so they are between, I would think,

from four metres up to
ten metres high under the rooms.

A year after opening,
four houses became five

with the addition of a room
based on something you'd never
expect to find in the woods -

a UFO.

The UFO is hanging
in five pine trees, in the wires.

It means when it's blowing,
you can feel the movement.

But it's not so much you get dizzy.

You have
an electric stair coming down,
and push the button and climb up.

In every room
we have a mobile phone,

so they call Reception if they need
something, like room service.

If you stay with your family, with
the kids, they love to stay here.

Since this futuristic fun house
crash-landed in 2011,

another two structures
have been hoisted into the trees.

The Dragonfly

and, lastly, the 7th Room.

It's the biggest and the highest.

The suite is designed to have
different experience levels.

The underside shows a life-size
photo of the pine treetops

as they looked
before the room was built.

There are stairs to reach the suite
ten metres up

as well as an electric lift
for your luggage.

Inside the 100-square-metre
structure,

there are two bedrooms
with two beds each

and one extra bed in the lounge.

There is also a bathroom
and a shower.

At the centre of the suite there is
a terrace, formed by a net floor,

with a naturally growing pine
in the middle.

Panoramic windows
face the river valley

and, if you're lucky,
the Northern Lights.

Sustainability and having
a minimal impact on the environment

are two key pillars
for the hotel operation.

No trees were destroyed or damaged
when building the hotel.

The electricity is supplied locally
from green hydroelectric power

and the lighting consists of
low-energy LED systems.

They have no sewage system.

Each one has a modern,
environmentally friendly
combustion toilet

where everything is incinerated
at 600 degrees Celsius.

Water is valued
as a precious commodity
that must be used sparingly.

This is the Rukkamoika.
It's our own designed water system,
and it saves a lot of water.

It's only three litres in this can.

Tap under and you can have
hand-washing water.

And it's clear glass.
You can see how much you spent.

Equally important
to Britta and Kent
is supporting the local community,

from using nearby firms
to build the treehouses

to providing jobs and using
local food for the restaurant.

Havard Santi is the resident chef.

This is green kale.
Today we're going to do two dishes.

We're going to do smoked reindeer.

The second dish is going to be
an Arctic char and the green kale.

Guests can order food
to their rooms

or eat in the guesthouse
500 metres away.

We serve people
from all over the world,

from Sweden to Singapore.

Before the Treehotel was built,

the area around
the village of Harads
was scarcely visited by tourists.

Now this secluded and unusual
resort has gained attention.

It attracts people
from all over the world.

This is our first time
here in Sweden,

our first time in the Treehotel,
and it is an amazing experience.

You are lying in the bed and you
have a big window in front of you

and you see the complete trees
and the modern...the jacuzzi.

When you are here
in the middle of nature

and you're in warm water
and around you is full with snow,

it's really nice.

Treehouses evoke fond childhood
memories of carefree days,

hiding from grownups
who may want to spoil the fun.

But here, the concept and design of
the hotel actively encourages it,

while at the same time celebrating
and cherishing this wild place.

BRITTA: I feel proud that we
did it, just didn't talk about it.

And it's going to be still here
when we are not here.

The people in the village
are really proud of the Treehotel.

And of course our grandchildren are
very proud. That feels very good.

We're exploring some of the world's
most unusual hotels.

Our next stop is Wales.

Monmouthshire in Wales
has a spectacular range
of historic sites to explore,

including Roman, Anglo-Saxon
and Norman settlements.

23 miles northeast
of the capital city, Cardiff,

is a relic with
a particularly unusual history.

Cunningly concealed
by grass and soil

is the last of seven remaining
Second World War bunkers in Wales.

For those who can find it,

it has been transformed
into luxury accommodation.

It's called the Decoy Bunker.

It's owned by local farmer and
self-confessed history fanatic
Henry Humphreys.

I'm a history nut,
so I like this sort of thing,

and I think we should
look after our history,

cos this is our history.

During World War Two, this hut
originally sheltered two soldiers

on covert missions
to deceive German bombers.

But its functional, militaristic
shell conceals a sharp contrast.

We come down the concrete steps.

This is the original doorway,
so you would have come into
your room here,

and it would have been
just one big open-plan area.

The once dank, musty space
where the soldiers hunkered down

has been converted
into a luxury bedroom

with a fold-out sofabed
and en-suite bathroom.

The original inhabitants may well
have had to settle for a jerrycan
of water and compo rations,

but the bunker now has
a fully equipped kitchen

for more relaxed self-catering.

Despite being
in the middle of nowhere,

the bunker does have electricity
from the farmhouse.

But Henry has also upped
the modern countryside charm

with a three-sided wood-burner

to radiate heat to every corner
of this historic space.

For all the luxury
of the accommodation itself,

there's another reason
for guests to come here.

That's the most magical view,

so the obvious thing to do
was have a glass front.

So instead of being
completely curved and grassed over,

we left the front for the windows,
hence you get that view.

It's a stunning reimagining
of a piece of military history,

its austere facade a deceptive
contrast to the interior.

It leans heavily on the fact
that the bunker was never designed
to be quite what it appeared to be.

It was actually one of seven
decoy bunkers in Wales,

deliberately designed to confuse
German bombers on night-time raids

and divert them from much more
potentially damaging targets.

Over there was one of the biggest

The bunker was the command centre
for a series of lights

which, from the air, would look
like the nearby munitions factory.

There would have been
blackout everywhere else,
so a bit of light up here...

"That must be our target.
Bombs away."

The clever thing is,
when the bombs landed,

I think four or five fires
could be ignited,

so when you're up there
dropping your bombs and
suddenly see a fire go on,

you'd say,
"Ah. We've hit our target."

The site also had to look
convincing from the air
during the day,

so the bunkers couldn't be visible,

which is why this getaway
remains so secret even today.

The way that it's designed

and tucked below the hedge line,

and the windows
are quite low to the ground,

that keeps it very well hidden
and discreet.

The "stay mum" secrecy meant that
the original bunker had no windows

to let light escape
and give the game away.

But today there are openings
that allow guests to gaze up
at the skies.

These are another secret feature
to the property - the portholes
on the roof.

They let in lots of light
and are really nice.

You can lie in bed
and look up at the sky

and maybe some stars
on a clear night if you're lucky.

For guests
wanting to recreate those blackout
days of the wartime bombing raids,

Henry has installed another feature

that gives a glimpse of
what it would have been like

for the soldiers stationed here
during their covert
wartime mission.

Very James Bond, isn't it?

Obviously you don't really
want windows at ground level
just outside a public footpath.

But if you want to be dark and
cosy, you put the shutters down.

This clever conversion
of a thoroughly functional
wartime decoy bunker

manages to combine
secrecy and protection

with comfort and luxury
in a stunning part of Britain.

And for those
with a love of history

or who just want to know
a little more,

it's great someone like Henry
has taken the time to preserve it.

It's part of our history, and
people seem to have much more
of an interest with it now.
