[bright music]

[intense violin music]

[dramatic music]

- Some call it the burning question, but in reality,

it's the trillion-dollar question.

Does supposed climate change threaten

the world as we know it?

The simple answer, no.

The only thing threatening the world as we know it

are the Democrats and their shameful green agenda.

I call the debate around global warming

the trillion-dollar question for two reasons.

If this "Earth First" bill passes,

we can kiss the free market goodbye.

You can't trade freely when you're China's bitch.

[store owner laughing]

If we follow the Democrat's lead,

not only do we fall into an impossible debt,

but America will become a weakling

on the international stage.

But what if these climate scientists are right

and the effects of global warming are irreversible?

What if greenhouse emissions are indeed ushering

in the end of times?

Fortunately, the science is on our side.

As you can see, plain as day,

there's been no upward trend of hot days

from 1895 all the way to 2017.

In fact, 11 of the hottest years happened before 1960.

The Democrat-supported "Earth First" bill is a Trojan horse.

This is how they finally take down America.

If they get their way,

with all the regulations and moratoriums they're proposing,

American industry will be reduced

to baristas and call centers.

And it's a matter of time before the illegals learn

English and take those jobs, too!

[Kay laughing]

The truth is, the climate is always changing.

It's been happening for thousands and thousands of years

and it always corrects itself.

And the way God is watchful over our environment,

we too must remain vigilant

against those who want to control how you live your life.

And now you know, the half of it.

- [Crew Member] And camera clear!

[crew clapping]

- No.

Tim, I thought we all discussed.

We were cutting that Uncle Sam boxing graphic!

- I know.

It was an oversight.

We uploaded another image, but it wasn't-

- It's fucking amateur!

It's like some kid made it in his mom's basement

for his little YouTube conspiracy show.

- I know.

It won't happen again.

- I replaced the host on this show.

I could take over directing, too.

What's stopping me?

Exactly.

- I mean, that was harsh, but probably warranted.

-Oh [mutters]

- I didn't wanna take that show anyway.

If I thought anybody here was

capable of the mission, by all means,

I don't think any of these spineless

talking heads are cut out for it.

- That was harsher for sure, Kay.

- What?

Too mean?

- No.

I love it when a woman is not afraid to speak her mind,

even if it does cause a very toxic

and hostile work environment.

- Jamilla, you get me.

- Of course I do.

All right, so he who shall not be named

is gonna drop your daughter off this evening.

Do you still plan on having dinner with her?

- Yeah, yes, yes.

And make sure nobody can get ahold of me

and ask the chef to make mac and cheese.

The only thing Mya will eat that he makes.

You can't imagine the amount of gourmet food

we've thrown out.

- I can.

- Oh, Jesus.

Dick.

I don't see my flowers.

I thought that was an Oscar-worthy performance.

- I'll send you flowers when you do what I ask.

- I don't understand what we didn't do.

We have kneecapped the bill,

we have debunked the science.

Robinson is doing a segment on it now.

- Who foots this 100 trillion dollar climate bill?

The taxpayer, that's who.

- Part of this deal was that you

and your people keep abreast

of the changing landscape of this

very important presidential race.

Votes are bought, not earned.

Wheeler is a good old boy and good old boys

still care about the constituent.

And word is he's about to flip on this pipeline

and I can't have that.

You definitely can't have that.

- Fucking yokel.

Are you kidding?

- Wheeler's little farm towns'

the only thing standing between you

and that hefty endowment we plan to make

to Mya's college of choice.

That is, if it's still what you're looking for.

Tomorrow night,

I need you to clearly and unequivocally

stump for Harland Reich.

- Okay.

- He's our guy.

Third generation politician and knows the dance.

Got it?

Time's running out.

- I'm trying to save you!

Atone for your sins so you rise up, not down!

Your eyes will boil out like hard boiled eggs!

- I don't care if the polls haven't been released.

This is Kay Durant, LNN Media Company.

What, you think I don't know that

that information is available?

No, no, no, no.

I don't need last week's polls.

I need tomorrow's Republican presidential primary numbers.

- Mother Earth is dying!

Doesn't anybody see?

Doesn't anybody see?

Feel!

- No, thank you.

No, I'll call Barry.

No, thank you.

Stupid fuck.

- [Oneiros] Why?

The earth is dying!

Why doesn't anyone listen?

- Let's go.

- Melt you!

I hope you all got sunblock!

[sad piano music]

- Mya!

It's really important to me

that we have this quality time together.

- Yeah, totally agree.

- Amber, I'm all out!

Did you watch my show tonight?

It was a good one.

Hello?

What did I just say?

- You said, "It's important that we have

quality time like this."

I said, "Yeah, I agree."

And you got bitchy with Amber.

Then you were like, "Did you watch my show tonight?"

I did not.

- Well, it's always a pleasure to dine with you.

Are you enjoying your mac and cheese?

Thank you.

- [Mya] Dad's is better.

- What?

That is my recipe.

He just stirs the pot.

- Good one.

- Oh, right.

Yeah, he certainly did stir that pot.

We used to like talking politics.

What?

Are you and your friends all woke now?

- Yeah.

They're teaching critical race theory.

[Kay chuckling]

- I'm serious.

Do you remember that paper that you wrote

about the need for smaller government?

You were in the 5th grade.

I was so impressed.

- Let's not do the whole grades thing tonight.

- I'm just saying, you know,

politics was something we had in common.

- As long as you don't start talking about family values

or dissecting a Megan Thee Stallion song, I don't care.

- Well, I know that you kids like to

have your fluid identities,

but just please tell me you're not a bleeding heart liberal.

- No.

I'm not.

I'm not a Republican, I'm not a socialist.

I just don't give a shit.

- That's a stupid thing to say.

This is your future.

- My future?

- [Kay] Yeah.

- Your generation took that away.

And I know how you like to blame everything

on the millennials, but they never even got a chance

and all we get are scraps.

- Oh, that's just sad.

I'm sad for you.

- Why would I involve myself in a system

that's designed so nothing gets done?

- [Kay] Are you kidding?

Things get done.

[bright piano music]

[Mya scoffing]

- I'm finished.

Can I go to my room?

Why am I even asking?

It's a free country, right?

[bright piano music]

[Oneiros speaking in foreign language]

[crowd chanting] [suspenseful music]

[Oneiros speaking in foreign language]

- [Narrator] You!

You're peddler of lies!

Earth Mother will show you

what your lies will bring upon us all.

[thunder rumbling] [suspenseful music]

[Oneiros speaking in foreign language]

[suspenseful music] [crowd yelling]

[crowd yelling]

- You're Kay Durant.

Hey!

It's Kay Durant!

[crowd booing] [suspenseful music]

Not enough that you have to own the whole news,

you have to personally lie to us on your own show?

Boo!

Boo!

Boo you!

Boo all of you!

Boo you!

- What the fuck was I doing?

Who the fuck are those people?

- [Jamilla] Kay!

Kay, get over here!

What the fuck was that?

- I don't know.

- Are you okay? - I'm fine.

- Oh my God! - Who are you?

- Where's your boss?

We need more security.

I'm pressing charges.

I wanna know who they are

and I wanna know who that old man is.

- We will figure it all out, okay?

We will.

Here.

Take this.

- What the fuck is that? - I don't know.

- Jesus. - Oh God.

- They threw shit.

- Do you want me to cancel the staff meeting?

- No.

No, no, no.

I can't cancel.

- Are you sure?

- Let's go.

Thanks, Alex.

- God, what the fuck was that? - I wanna talk to your boss!

[tires screeching]

- [Genji] Fuck, man!

We need to make it there on one piece!

- [John] I told you I needed point by point directions.

This ain't the part of the city my people go to.

- [Leah] Who the fuck ordered ramen

from over here last week?

- [John] DoorDash got it from over here.

- [Leah] Why are we doing this?

- [John] 'Cause we have to do this.

People need to wake up.

- [Leah] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I know, I know, I know.

It's now or never.

- [Genji] Now or never.

- So, we're changing the mandate.

It's time to go for the jugular.

We only have a few weeks left until that primary is called.

- I mean, it's not really our job

to tell people how to vote.

Like, I know I'm the new guy,

but why bother calling ourselves

the "Liberty News Network" if we're gonna completely

undermine the entire political process?

- Have you seen the Quinnipiac poll?

He's sinking and we don't wanna be on a sinking ship.

We wanna be on the winning ship.

And Harland Reich is the winning ship, all right?

Got it?

[cellphone vibrating]

Do you think you can take him up a little bit?

- [Coworker] Of course.

- [Kay] Just at the very beginning of the show?

- [Jamilla] Oh shit.

- [Kay] What is it?

What?

What?

Let me see.

What's going on?

- Let me connect security with the police.

- Why?

What is happening?

Oh my gosh.

- Give us the room.

- Oh my God.

- Now!

I'm calling security, Kay.

- No, no, no, no.

Hang that fucking phone up!

[cellphone vibrating]

Who is this?

- [Leah] We have Mya.

If you do what we say, she'll be fine.

If you don't, she'll be shot.

-Umm

- Okay.

Name your price.

Let's just get her outta there safely.

- [Leah] This is a situation you can't buy your way out of.

- What do you want then?

- [Leah] Come alone to 504 Green Drive.

You have 15 minutes.

- Have Alex bring my car around.

- Kay, what the fuck?

- What are you doing?

These are pissed off people with guns!

With all due respect,

you don't know a goddamn thing

about shit outside your world!

- Thank you very much.

[suspenseful music]

[cellphone vibrating]

Alex, pull over here.

[tires screeching]

[ominous violin music]

[Kay gasping] - [Leah] Stop there.

Sit down!

[Mya crying]

- Mom!

- Okay, well, let's get this started.

- [John] That was quite the performance

on last night's show.

"The Half of It with Kay Durant."

Now you know the half of it.

It's a pretty good slogan, isn't it?

- [Genji] Effective.

- [John] You know, for years,

your network has represented the right side of politics,

giving a voice to the new silent majority, as they call it.

- Well, it's no secret that my audience

is more conservative,

but that's in relation to the MSNBCs and the CNNs who rely

on liberal indignation and PC outrage to boost ratings.

- [John] You can drop the bite-sized package remarks!

- Okay, go ahead.

I'm listening.

- [John] Lately,

your network has adopted an even more aggressive

than usual stance against the environment

in these facts you trot out from

disproven studies and corrupt think tanks

that are only meant to confuse and already confused public!

You are actively fighting against the policies and laws

this entire planet needs to make it

through to the next century!

And all for what?

[John banging desk] For what, Kay?

[Mya crying]

- Is that really what you wanna talk about?

You kidnapped my daughter and demanded a meeting

with me to talk about the fucking environment?

Are you out of your minds?

You're nothing but terrorists.

Actually, terrorists have a reason.

They live in a desert shit hole.

You guys are eco-terrorists,

entitled and upset because you watched

too many episodes of "Captain Planet"

while your parents coddled you and blinded you

into thinking that the world revolves around you.

- [Genji] You're gonna sit here and lecture us?

You could be exposing these shady lobbyists

and polluters for destroying the planet.

Instead, you selfishly do their bidding.

That's eco-terrorism.

- Okay, fine.

Okay, fine.

You've had your five minutes with the evil Kay Durant.

I will make a donation to PETA.

[Mya crying]

- Mom.

- It's gonna be okay.

- [John] You've proven time and time again

the ability to sway public opinion

and you've used it for years for your own interests.

- Yes, my network is very influential.

Could you please be careful with that gun?

What is it you want from me?

[upbeat violin music]

The Democrat-supported "Earth First" bill is a Trojan horse.

This is how they finally take down America.

In fact, 11 of the hottest years happened before 1960.

These attempts to stop fracking in Pennsylvania

have one simple goal:

the destruction of the working class in America.

[suspenseful piano music]

Will you let us leave if I admit

that we've taken contributions for airtime?

I'm sorry if this is news to you,

but running a network is a business.

It's pay for play.

I'm one in a long line of businessmen, not newsmen,

businessmen who know how things work, okay?

Can we go now?

What is that?

- [John] We're live.

Been livestreaming this interaction

from the moment you walked in.

That video was just a teaser, and by now,

every news outlet in the country has

every incriminating email,

every piece of footage of you double dealing,

treating the news like a piggy bank!

Do you have anything to say now?

- You're right.

You're right.

I never cared what I was saying.

But I can change.

I can change.

I'll go live tonight and we'll have

a fair discussion about this bill.

- [Leah] She's still treating this like a transaction.

She needs to pay a price for what she did.

- Easy. - Can you be careful?

- [Genji] We've done what we came here to do.

- [Leah] No, they will never change,

but this planet will, with or without us!

- [Genji] Starting packing up.

- [Leah] No!

- [John] Leah, back off!

- Wait!

I'll do whatever you want! [gun firing]

No!

- What the fuck did you just do?

- Shit!

- [John] Get out of here!

Let's go, let's go!

- [Kay] Mya.

[Mya speaking in foreign language]

- Mya.

[Kay crying] [sad piano music]

- Kay.

You shouldn't be here.

- They will not have the last word.

- Kay.

What are you doing here?

- What is it?

- [Set Director] All right, everyone!

In five, four, three, two!

- By now, you all know what transpired.

And all those documents, those emails,

the surveillance footage, all of that is real.

No doctoring.

I remember every single interaction,

every single donation.

And I did it.

I live in the tower of the 1%

and look down at the 99 below.

Up here, we engage in political theater.

We fight over the budget and welfare and the minimum wage,

whether or not to give someone an extra dollar an hour,

all to hide the tower and the growing space

between the haves and the have not's.

But all of that pales in comparison

to the greatest danger we've ever faced,

a danger I refused to acknowledge

or accept when the truth is we've all felt it.

Deep in that ancient part of ourselves,

we've sensed an imbalance,

and that's because we are at war with nature.

Anyone who's ever felt the stress melt when they

leave the city knows that we are all part of nature.

And I know what you're thinking.

Those who hold the power, the CEOs, the financial elite,

the entrenched politicians, they'll never change,

but after what I have experienced,

I know that the earth will change,

with or without us.

But the future isn't written.

Where we go from here is up to you.
