Strategic ambush of Russian soldiers from Ukraine.

The Ukrainian army carried out a successful

operation in the city of Bakhmouth, where

the war raged. In this operation, Ukrainian border guards targeted the

invading soldiers

of the Wagner group and the Russian reconnaissance corps. The invading

Russian reconnaissance unit

was eliminated with a spectacular ambush, while the Wagner group soldiers

sent to support

the region were repulsed with a successful defense. The Ukrainian army does

not let the invaders in the Bakhmouth region pass.

Russian reconnaissance troops, who were working to discover the Ukrainian

border guard troops,

on the borders of the city of Bakhmouth,

where the war was the most intense in the

past days and countered an unexpected ambush. Soldiers of the Ukrainian

border guard corps

were in control of all the activity in the border regions, but the Russian

reconnaissance

units were unaware of this. The Russian reconnaissance troops, who moved to

get information about

the conditions on the borders of Bakhmouth and to discover the location of

the Ukrainian

border guard troops, became the target of the Ukrainian soldiers. Ukrainian

border guards

were lying in ambush in the border areas,

waiting for the Russian invaders to approach

the area. As the Russian reconnaissance troops approached

the area, the silence on the Bakhmouth border was replaced by loud clashes.

The Russian

invaders were surprised by what they encountered. Ukrainian soldiers blocked

the Russian troops

with a successful ambush. Russian troops

retreated from the area after the clashes.

The Russian army lost two lookout soldiers during the clash. Three Russian

soldiers were

injured in this clash. The successful ambush operation carried out by the

Ukrainian border

guards during the day continued differently at night, because after the

Russian soldiers

were killed and wounded in the area, the reconnaissance

units had to retreat. Wagner group soldiers.

appeared in Bakhmouth at dusk. Wagner group soldiers and Russian army

soldiers were aiming

to organize a more extensive operation against Ukrainian positions.

The Ukrainian army had already deployed artillery units in the area,

anticipating the operation

of the enemy troops. The Ukrainian army was deployed slightly behind the

area where the

clashes were taking place. When the invading troops entered the area, the

attack began.

The soldiers of the Wagner group cannot enter the area in the face of the

fierce attack and lost many soldiers.

Wagner group fighters are advancing on towns in eastern Ukraine as the

battle for Bakhmouth

in Ukraine's Donetsk region continues to

rage. Days after, Russia claimed its forces

captured the village of Kleschivica in the Bakhmouth district. Multiple

military analysts assessed on Tuesday that it had been captured.

Earlier on January 19, Yevgeny Pergosin, leader of the Kremlin-controlled

Wagner group, said

the village has been seized by the group's

units. Ukraine's military said on the same

day that it had repelled Russian attacks there. It comes days after the

reported seizure of

the salt mining town of Solitar, a small

town located 9 miles north of Bakhmouth and

nearly six months after Russia poured its troops into the region.

Ukrainian President Voladimir Zielensky said this week that Russia was

intensifying its

push toward the industrial town of Bakhmouth, which has been one of the

hottest spots of the war, but is likely only

to present a symbolic victory for Russian

President Voladimir Putin

if captured. Russian forces led mainly by fighters with the Wagner group

have been attempting to capture Bakhmouth since July.

The Institute for the Study of War, ISW, a

U.S.-based think tank, said on Tuesday that

Russian forces continued to conduct ground attacks in the Bakhmouth and of

the Ivica-Dinetsk

city area, making marginal territorial gains near Bakhmouth itself. Analysts

with the think

tank noted that the Ukrainian general staff reported that Ukrainian forces

repelled Russian

assaults near Bakhmouth itself, within 22 kilometers or 13.6 miles northeast

of Bakhmouth

near Bilohirivica, Rosdolivica, Seel and Krasnohura, and 7 kilometers or 4.3

miles southwest of Bakhmouth in Krasnohura.

The ISW observed, however, that geo-located footage posted on January 23rd,

likely indicates that Russian forces have

advanced west of Pithordone, located 3 miles

northeast of Bakhmouth,

and that they control the settlement. Overall, Russian forces have not made

any operationally significant gains around Bakhmouth.
