Original subtitles

Then, everything would break down.

Your engine...

Is that a forewarning?

Talk to Jae-ha for me.

To let everything go and renounce the throne.

Do you think my kids will bat an eyelid at your antics?

They could die.

I will persuade him

to resign.

I want to live easy.

It will be more effective

if we're face-to-face, right?

Call Bong-gu

and tell him

that I'll resign.

You should discuss with the royal committee first--

Inform Bong-gu first.

He's the king now.

Your Majesty, Club M is on the line.

They'll let you speak with Ms. Kim.

Just so you know,

this video call can't be traced.

And...

Do you see the guns?

One wrong move, and you're a goner.

Just persuade him to abdicate the throne.

You must play the part of being pathetic and scared, okay?

Bong-gu will be watching from out of view.

Tamp down your emotions and keep her on the line.

We'll try to trace the call.

Are you okay?

My mom?

She's fine.

Don't think about anything.

Don't try to do anything.

I'll take care of this.

The decision has already been made.

Let's choose

the easy life.

Yes, please do.

I...

I want to live.

Did you get the location?

It's as we expected.

The connection is through a zombie PC.

We have over 100 thousand possibilities.

I thought I would finally get to be happy.

I want to live happily ever after with you.

The thought of you is helping me bear my situation.

Do you remember?

Do you remember during the WOC

I told you

the kind of man I want.

I want a man whom I can respect.

I'll only get engaged if we win fair and square.

And we came out

on top, didn't we?

We have so many memories together.

While turning the globe, we decided where to send the gift.

You remember that, don't you?

John Mayer.

Kim Bong-gu is his Korean name.

Is that where he's holding you?

Hey!

Who's there with you?

There's no one here.

What is it? What's going on?

They won't dare kill me!

It's all pretend.

Hey!

Listen carefully to me!

If you abdicate like they want, I'll bite my tongue and die.

So don't you dare renounce--

Hang Ah!

It's China.

He's holding them captive

at the place where we sent his gift.

Get the Chinese diplomat and our administration.

Have the anti-terrorism team ready.

What did you do with a globe?

We sent you a gift.

Remember?

Your lover.

You told Lee Jae-ha where we are?

I wasn't just bluffing.

You can't kill us.

Not with the US and China watching. Kidnapping us was bad enough.

That's why all you did was threaten the Queen Mother with scissors, right?

Did you enjoy your little hairdresser act?

Does it make you feel real good, Kim Bong-gu?

You're right, I can't kill you.

That's pushing it.

But I can hurt you.

As long as it doesn't show, right?

Didn't you hear me say I'd bite my tongue and die?

I'm a North Korean drill instructor. That's special operations forces.

You know exactly what we're prepared to do.

Don't flatter yourself.

It's not that you couldn't kill me. I chose not to die.

Let me be with the Queen Mother.

Then, I'll just stay put and do nothing.

Mother!

Hang Ah!

Hang Ah.

What did they do?

It's fine, I just had a small workout.

Did they hit you? Are you okay?

I am all right.

See, I'm fine.

Hang Ah, let's escape.

Let's try doing something. Just like what you said.

This is where John Mayer's house is located.

It's private land for a 10km radius. We'll need China's help.

We can infiltrate through this cave here.

This information is accurate, right?

Yes, we're on better terms with their government...

That Bong-gu is a freak.

He built his house on top of a cave

to imitate The Phantom of the Opera.

Contact the Chinese government.

I see.

China refuses to help us.

They must be careful because John Mayer is a foreign national.

And they absolutely won't allow our soldiers into their country.

What does the prime minister say?

He said it would be difficult.

There's no definite proof that they're being held in China.

They can't send our military based on conjectures.

It could lead to a load of diplomatic problems.

Let me contact the Workers' Party.

It will be difficult as well.

The Party don't want to strain their relations with China.

Then, what do we do?

We can't act openly.

We will enter China with tourist visas.

The Chinese government will be on alert,

so it will be just five including the North Koreans.

It will be just like the WOC, only this is the real thing.

You could die, but failure is not an option.

You must rescue them.

Mother, let's go.

Mother, come on.

Or area B.

Gosh.

Mother, we're almost there. Just a little bit more.

That path leads to the cave entrance, right?

Right. We just have to get rid of those guys.

What did he say?

I think they've attempted an escape.

Mother, we're almost there.

Mother, wait here a moment.

I'll cross over and find a rope so that you can cross...

You can't manage that with your injured arm.

I was a North Korean drill instructor. Don't underestimate me.

Do you think only North Koreans are strong? We can hold our own.

You can't do that.

The water is too deep.

Then, do you want me to stay here and do nothing?

My eldest son is dead,

my youngest is crippled.

Now the only son I have is in danger.

And you want me to be a burden to my daughter-in-law?

Why should I?

Mother!

Mother!

No.

What do we do?

What's there to discuss? We can't let them go on ahead.

Go on without me. I'll hold them back.

Ms. Kim Hang Ah!

Your Highness!

Your Highness! Ms. Kim Hang Ah!

Mother.

Your Highness!

Ms. Kim Hang Ah!

Mother, just a bit more.

Just run and don't look back.

What about you?

Mother, go!

Go, Mother!

Hang Ah!

Ms. Kim Hang Ah!

Your Highness!

Your Highness!

Hang Ah. She's...

I'm sorry, Mom. This is my fault.

Poor Hang Ah.

What about Hang Ah?

It's going to be fine. We'll find her.

I'm sure she's all right.

I'll find her, no matter what.

Are you sure she's gone?

Look quietly into where she could've gone.

We must find her. Comb all of China, if you must.

But Your Majesty, the tension in China is very threatening right now.

Because you sent in the Royal Guards to save the Queen Mother.

They keep hounding...

-This is your job. -Your Majesty...

Saving captured citizens. Alleviating tension between countries.

But have you done anything right now?

You know we've been occupied with the national convention--

Screw your little parties or your schemes to extort money.

You have real obligations to fulfill!

Do you really want to go on a war against me?

Shall I tell the people what dirty things you've done?

Understood, Your Majesty. I will do my best.

Kim Hang Ah.

Please find her.

Please.

Contact China.

Did you see this person?

Did you happen to see this person?

No. Who is she?

A defector. Report her if you see her.

Check over there.

This is Morning Star number 52.

I've confirmed that the public security officers are looking for Ms. Kim.

But they're calling her...

They're saying she's a defector.

China has sided with Bong-gu.

They want to use my daughter to strain North-South relations.

Did you check the prison camp for defectors?

We already asked for the list.

But the prison camp is refusing to tell us anything.

Negotiate with the Chinese government.

Be prepared to allow the defectors to relocate to South Korea safely.

I have already done that.

I told them to let the defectors do what they wish.

I'll let them go to South Korea, just show us the list, I told them.

China is trying to make her disappear through the cracks.

And the one controlling them is Bong-gu.

Maybe contact the diplomats...

Do you know the International Criminal Court?

The ICC? The one that judges individuals who commit international crimes?

Can we charge Bong-gu in that court?

If he's branded as a criminal, China can't blindly take his side.

Then we can save Hang Ah.

But if you go public like that--

It'll be an all-out war. We could end up massacred.

Do you have evidence to charge him?

No.

But it wouldn't be easy even with solid proof.

Bong-gu could just hide in a country that is not part of the ICC state party.

But charging him through the ICC is our best bet.

Why don't you give my father a call?

He'll know what to do. He's always dealt with Club M successfully.

He's more experienced than us...

No, now is not the time.

What is it? What happened between you and my father?

Leave me.

Shi-gyeong.

The truth is...

You trust your father?

Blind faith is poison.

It'll be a quick investigation.

I want to check a document.

Can you please sign here?

EUN KYU-TAE'S LETTER OF RESIGNATION

SECURITY LEVEL 1

Around the time of the late king's passing, I, Eun Kyu-tae

communicated secretly with Club M and committed the following crimes.

I take on full responsibility and will receive any punishment.

COMMUNICATED SECRETLY

THE DEATHS AS ACCIDENTAL

A NUMBER OF OTHER PERSONAL CALLS

LETTER OF RESIGNATION

Hold on.

How will we even catch him?

Your Majesty, these need to be approved.

EUN KYU-TAE

Your Majesty, the court secretary told me

that Ms. Kim has gone missing.

I'll make sure she doesn't tell you anything else.

Charge John Mayer in the International Criminal Court.

You know that's the only option.

I will testify against him.

I thought about it, but it's no good.

We don't have a recording of his confession.

And if we make things public, Bong-gu won't just rest on his laurels.

He'll claim that we're giving false testimony.

Why, am I wrong again?

Do you think the King is incompetent too?

So you're ignoring him?

He's different in crisis. He's strong.

No, you're assessing the situation properly.

APPLICATION TO ACCESS RESTRICTED RECORDS

EUN SHI-GYEONG

I think Shi-gyeong found out about you.

I'll find out where he is right now.

Sir, are you going out?

Yes, just for a walk. If my son comes by...

Is it true?

Did you really do it?

You told me to never become a shameful person.

Come on inside.

One slip-up and it's a slippery slope.

So you told me to be vigilant.

Come in, don't stand in the rain.

You...

You pushed me so hard,

yet look at you!

You are ashamed, right?

Take a good, hard look.

This is your father's true face.

I didn't want to be imperfect,

so I refused to acknowledge my mistake.

This is what happens when a man goes opposite of his beliefs.

I taught you not to be shameful, but let me change it.

Become someone who knows what shame is.

So, never forget how I look right now.

And don't become like me--

You're still trying to preach at me?

I already know about shame even without your advice.

I am so ashamed right now.

I won't forget how you look now.

Thank you for this burden.

Give this to him.

Did he turn off his phone?

Search the Chief Secretary's house.

Mobilize the royal guards and find him now.

Jae-ha, did you find Hang Ah?

Shi-gyeong disappeared.

He has read the records,

and found out the truth about his father.

What about Mr. Eun?

Mr. Eun and Kim Bong-gu...

Did you really dismiss him?

Yes.

Why? Feel like punching me?

Yes.

Take some time off.

You haven't had a time off, right? Now is the time.

As for your father...

Do you know the International Criminal Court?

Can we charge Bong-gu in that court?

But it wouldn't be easy even with solid proof.

Bong-gu could just hide in a country that is not part of the ICC state party.

Your Majesty, we found him.

What the heck?

I've had the royal guards searching for you all day.

So if you feel bad at all, spill it.

I will go to Bong-gu.

I will let him capture me and find out where he hides.

What?

Who? You?

Yes.

Look at me when you talk.

Don't avert your gaze in guilt.

You are not your father.

I'm not being impulsive out of guilt.

This is something only I can pull off.

Bong-gu is interested to have me on his side.

You're a smart cookie.

Why is someone like you

working under Lee Jae-ha?

He's incorrigible.

Come to me, I'll make it worth it.

I have a lot of cookies.

When you charge him in the ICC, I'll pretend to go after him.

And I'll pretend to resist before giving in to his offer.

So when he goes into hiding, I will inform you where he is.

This will allow you to charge him.

All you have to do is find evidence.

Bring out my memory.

I want to use it as evidence against Bong-gu.

I told you last time, this could--

I won't let it consume me.

Even if it does, it can't get worse than this.

We've suffered enough. My brother, Hang Ah and even...

Mr. Eun and Kim Bong-gu...

I can't bear to watch anymore.

Do what you must to help me remember.

You want an all-out war against Bong-gu?

-That's too much. -Your Majesty!

This isn't about you. This is about our country's dignity.

To the rest of the world, it'll look like

the royal family is having a petty fight against a mere company chairman.

This could unsettle the monarchy.

And even whole country, if we're not careful.

So we make solid preparations, one of which is sending me in.

Watch him around the clock.

Your Majesty!

You're feeling guilty?

Hang Ah is missing right now. I'm the one going crazy here.

Yet I'm trying to remain calm as the King and figure out how to bring Bong-gu down.

So how dare you...

Well, Your Majesty, sorry to interrupt but the palace has been contacting us.

The princess...

She wants to undergo hypnosis. But the doctor says she's not ready.

She says Jae-shin could end up in a worse state.

Your Majesty, she can't. You must stop her.

-Everyone, out. -Jae-ha.

Out.

The hastier you feel, the more you have to be careful.

Your reckless actions won't help the situation.

I'm doing this to stop being a nuisance.

I've considered this for a while now.

I want to become someone useful.

Shi-gyeong is outside the room.

Won't it help to have him by your side?

No, don't let him come in.

My memory is sure to be a horrible monster.

I don't want Eun Shi-gyeong to see it.

Your order is to stand by. Please wait here.

She's really going to do it?

We'll inject you to help with the hypnosis.

It's not anesthesia, so you'll be able to hear my voice.

And you will be able to move a little.

If it becomes too much, give us a sign and we'll stop.

-You shouldn't push yourself-- -Let's start.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath.

Relax all the muscles in your body.

The more you breathe,

your body and mind sink into relaxation.

You are now deeply relaxed.

Do you feel yourself opening up?

In front of you is the hidden door.

Where does it lead?

Jae-kang!

Jae-kang.

Palm tree.

Pool table.

That sounds like Jae-kang's vacation spot.

Who are you looking for?

My big brother.

Did they go out?

It's too much. I'll stop the procedure.

Are you really okay?

Okay.

Breathe slowly and fall deeper into your memories.

Slowly and comfortably.

Geez, little princess.

Why did you come and intrude on our plans?

I won't ask who you are. Just tell me what you want--

Oh, I see you've been trained to deal with crises since you're royalty too.

But--

I'll get you the Chief Secretary's number. You can talk to him.

Hey, you think I called 411?

Do you think I need a number?

-I know nothing-- -Stop interrupting me!

The woman beside you is holding something.

Take some of that and put it in the fireplace.

Let's let your big brother die peacefully, okay?

No...

You're probably clueless about guns since you're a girl.

Do you think a gunshot will leave a nice, clean hole?

No, it'll make a dirty mess.

It will shatter your skull, and blood will be everywhere.

It will be a hassle to clean that mess up.

Clean enough so there's no reaction to luminol.

And who will receive the brunt of our irritation?

Your big brother, of course.

We'd have to make his death hurt so much.

Recognize this? The Nazis played it in gas chambers,

while killing Jews.

You don't want an ugly, gruesome death, do you?

Do you catch my drift?

I...

killed him.

It was me.

I killed him.

He made me...

I...

Used my own hand.

The bastard. It was me...

Jae-shin, it's okay. It's all right.

Jae-shin, everything's okay.

It was me, I did it.

It was me.

-It's okay, Jae-shin. -I killed Jae-kang...

-It's okay. Jae-shin! -Jae-kang!

Stop it!

Jae-kang!

I have to go to her.

-Your Highness! -I'm sorry!

I'm sorry.

No, don't! Don't!

-No! -Hurry, get the tranquilizer!

What happened?

We had to. She hurt herself out of shock.

She needs complete rest.

Bong-gu planned this all

when he decided to kill Jae-kang.

Jae-shin walked in on them,

so he poisoned her mind.

So, she won't tell what she saw.

That even if she remembers,

it will kill us first.

In the cruelest way,

he poisoned us all.

Mom, that's why

I have to do it.

I'll fight Bong-gu.

I was going to ignore him because he's psychotic.

But that isn't right.

I have to fight him because he's so psychotic.

I have to go up against him for our family and the nation's dignity.

And above all...

So that I can live.

That's the way to save us.

And I have to find Hang Ah, no matter what.

I've found the proof.

You know that John Mayer of Club M is currently in China.

Help us capture him.

Are you taking good care of Kim Hang Ah?

Do you know why I didn't kill Kim Hang Ah?

The death of the late king Lee Jae-kang

was found to be murder.

Come back to the palace.

So, why won't you let me?

Did you hear about my memory?

They're the bad guys. It wasn't your fault.

Kill me.

Kill me right now!

Comrade Jae-ha!

Three hours ago, my fiancée said she was being held here.

Search every corner.

Hang Ah! Kim Hang Ah!
