Russia is a country without air defense.

As of today, it is safe to say that Russia has

no full-fledged air defense system and is
generally unable to protect its airspace.

At the same time, Ukraine's air defense
is more effective, although more outdated.

The explanation is that today Russia has
no echeloned air defense system and only

long-range air defense systems prevail.
That is, short-range complexes do not

provide the necessary cover and even more,
cease to exist as an element of the echelon.

Meanwhile, it is the short-range complexes that
provide protection against objects that the radars

of medium- and long-range complexes cannot see,
such as small drone aircraft. Let me remind you

that in Karabakh in 2020 the Azerbaijani army
destroyed Armenian S-300 with Bayraktar TB2.

In turn, the Soviet-type short-range complexes
available in the Russian Armed Forces,

even after modernization, are not capable of
detecting small modern means of destruction,

equipped with elements of suppression 3-4
generations ahead of Soviet technology.

Now a little bit of entertaining mathematics.

Russia, a country with a territory of 17 million
km², which should be covered by defense in depth.

But if we talk about the protection of
the Russian airspace from small objects,

among modern systems it has Tor
and Pantsir missile systems.

Tor missile systems has an
effective radius of 12 km,

produced for the needs of Russian armed
forces in the amount of 132 units.

Pantsir missile systems with
an effective radius of 15 km,

produced for the needs of the army of
the occupant in the amount of 116 units.

Question. In total can these complexes
provide cover of the Russian airspace

from the penetration of high technology objects?

The answer is simple.
Critically and categorically no!

But the main thing is that during the
war in Ukraine the Russian army has

lost 30 Tor units and 33 Pantsir missile systems.

At the same time, most of the
small-range complexes are now

concentrated in the combat zone in Ukraine,
to cover the positions of Russian troops from

air strikes and not only on the Donbas
direction and the Southern bridgehead.

This leaves Russia’s airspace totally
unprotected from the impact of small objects.

In other words, all of the above
only underscores Russia's technical,

technological and military weakness.

The thing is that creation of
a short-range complex is a more

"jewelry" job than manufacturing
of S-400 and S-500 missile systems.

In modern warfare, why do you need systems
that can hit targets at hundreds of kilometers,

but that do not see objects that can
take these systems out of action?

At the same time you are not able to create the
necessary amount of protection for these systems.

Technically and technologically Russia
is a backward country and it is easier

for it to create a complex defining
object in a space 15 meters long than

a complex recognizing object less than one
meter. The backwardness and degradation,

as well as complete helplessness is the best
characteristic of the Russian air defense system.

In turn, Ukraine in 2022 began to strengthen
its air defense system with the help of

international partners, starting from
small radius complexes and gradually

moved to the medium, with the subsequent
prospect of improvement and a large range.

And, while Ukraine’s air defense efficiency is
growing, something strange is happening in Russia.

In fact, a country without an defense in
depth has no air defense system at all.

And thanks to Ukraine, Russia is now one of the
countries with an underdeveloped and completely

useless air defense system. And this is not
a year of war yet... Only the 10th month.
