in their sights.

It's been a long journey
to get here.

In a bid to help fund
the Nugget Creek operation,

Kayla's crew dredged
the pilings pit
at Porcupine Creek.

With low visibility
it's hard to see it.

But the diving proved deadly.

It's a death trap.

If we're completely
wasting our time,

I'm not going to spend
much more time in this hole.

They finally found
some gold,

but the risks were not worth
a share of just 25 percent.

We need to find
a lot more gold

because that ain't gonna
cut it.

last week, at her
new dive site on Nugget Creek,

Kayla discovered gold.

Every pan
has gold in it.

Now Dustin
is desperate for a payday.

We've got to figure out
how to get that dredge
in the water

by the end of the week.

And it's time to do
what we do.

Move some big ass rocks,
get some dredging done,
find some real gold.

Dustin's plan is to salvage driftwood

and turn it into planks
to make wooden walkways
so they can carry in their

dredging equipment
and dive for bedrock gold.

can get to work

on getting his dredge
in the water,

he has to help Kayla

with installing the walkways.

Hopefully,
with the core drill,

they can get in there
deep enough,
put a pipe in it

that it'll support
everybody's weight.

To secure their
walkway to the cliff face,

Paul needs to first
locate solid areas of rock,

then use a water-cooled
core drill to bore holes
deep enough

to insert sawn-off
scaffold poles to support
the cottonwood planks.

It's definitely
working good.

One down, 27 to go.

The first walkway is up
and it's going to go pretty
quick now, I think.

That's bad-ass, dude.
I'm [bleep] happy with this.

For some reason,
I'm not getting any water
going to the drill head.

Without a constant
flow of water,

the core bit will overheat
and the diamond tip
is going to warp.

I got to have
that water pump to pump
water to the drill bit.

It flushes out the material,
and it also keeps
the drill bit cool.

There's a few pumps around,
if I can get them working,

then I'll get water
to the drill.

Without it, I cannot drill
any more holes.

I need a pump.

We can't get this
core drill going.

We're not going to be
able to build our walkway.

I've invested five months
away from my family.

I've got a wife
and four kids at home.

So Nugget Creek
has got to pay off.

It has to be worth it.

From here, they will take
on the most dangerous
section of the journey,

dragging the nearly
one-ton dredge

through a series of bends
500-feet

up the raging,
boulder-infested creek

all the way
to their dive site.

We've got a little
trailer that we've always
used for a fuel trailer.

We're going to try to
rig that underneath
these as well,

so we can have us
a makeshift trailer.

at Kayla's site...

Time to shake things up.

The crew are
ready for their first
dive on Nugget Creek.

We put a lot of work
in setting up the site,

so if we find gold,
that would be great.

We don't fully expect it,
but we're always hopeful.

Unlike at McKinley,

Nugget Creek's bedrock
is rumored to be far
closer to the surface.

To get to it, they must
first clear rocks in
order to start a hole.

Then dig down to what
they hope will be
no more than ten feet

to bedrock and
their fortune in gold.

- You can go ahead
and fire it up.
- All right.

For her first dive,
Kayla will work from the
surface with just a snorkel.

As she clears
her way deeper.

Kayla is a beast.

She gets after
the rock really well.
I just try to keep up.

You see that?
She's dredging.

[bleep] Yeah.

I hope there's
gold in that box.

The dredge is
running material.

That is it.
We are in the water.
We are mining now.

That's what I'm talking

At Nugget Creek,
Kayla is four hours into
her first dive at the site.

I'm tired.

Arms are a little spent.

I don't expect
anything, but it'd be
nice to see something.

I'd be really surprised.

I see
a lot of pyrite.

All that rusty stuff.

If only
it were gold.

Pyrite, known
as fool's gold, is a sure
sign that gold is nearby.

That's a lot
of [bleep] pyrite.

That is insane amounts.

It feels good being
back in the water.

We got a lot of rock moved.
We got a good area opened up.

I feel like things are
going to start getting
into a better rhythm now.

If we can do what we actually
came here to do, which is
hopefully find some gold.

Down creek,

A hundred feet of boulders
stands between Dustin

and the official start
to his mining season.

Last obstacle getting
our dredge up this
massive pile of rocks.

For a job this size,
it's all hands on deck.

So Dustin has called in Scott
and Paul for extra muscle.

We're about
ready to fire up. Let's go.

Uh... All stop.

There's a big boulder
in our damn way.

There's actually a lot of
big boulders in our way.

Is it trying up there?

It's barely clicking, man,
it's trying, but it ain't
doing nothing.

Maybe we should lose
the trailer from here on out.

All we got to do
is double pull on this.

We're trying to move
the dredge up
the hardest part right now.

And this winch with just
a single pull is not enough.

They're going to have
to find a way to do
a double pull on it.

This is going to help out
