An Oriental Odyssey

Episode 30

Well. Let me tell you like this.

You're the servant.

While she's the master.

You're so different.

You're just wasting your time if you like her.

All you do will be in vain.

You must know clearly who you are.

Mu Le, clear that?

Why are you here?

Zhao.

Excuse me. See you.

Mu Le, in the fight to clear out the evil monk,

you helped me. I do appreciate it.

Forget what happened before.

Let's celebrate today.

Let's go get a drink.

You two are here.

Today is worthy to be celebrated.

No matter what happened before,

after drinking together,

it'll disappear.

Mr. Zhao is proposing a toast to you. You shall be thankful.

I don't deserve it.

He's so stubborn.

Don't blame him.

After a catastrophe,

everyone almost lost their lives.

Yes.

Luckily the empress managed it so well.

Did you really kneel for three days there?

If you were there,

would you do the same for me?

Of course.

That's it.

What I do is just so simple.

You once said

we should do the right thing for the right person.

Thank you.

Nothing.

Yuan'an,

Could you please answer my question directly and clearly?

Go ahead.

Am I...

the person you care most?

Why do you ask this?

The person you care most is Mu Le, right?

Am I right?

Don't guess without ground.

Anyway, Mu Le used to work in Ye mansion.

He saved me for several times.

So I should be nice to him.

Just because he's not in the same position as you,

so I should be cold to him. That's not right.

Well, listen.

How about me?

What do you think of me in your heart?

Yuan'an,

You're... You're...

Relax.

I'm just asking randomly.

You know,

you're impartial.

You do everything according to the rules.

Yuan'an.

That's how I think of you.

It's getting late. Shall I walk you home?

Okay.

Wait,

when we were having dinner,

I didn't finish my words.

Empress said,

she awarded us many things.

I don't need that much.

Then those belongs to you,

I'll take them out and give it to you.

You're giving me money?

I don't care about money.

What do you care about?

What do I care about?

I care about you.

Are you crazy?

Why can't I? He can even do that.

What are you saying?

Zhao Lanzhi!

What did you talk to him?

Why did he hold your hands like this?

It's none of your business.

Must I report to you what he said to me?

Yes.

I'm just nobody.

Just because you took Tianshu back and saved my life

doesn't mean you can do everything to me.

Let me ask you,

I begged you to do what you've done now?

No.

Since I didn't beg,

it's you who want to do this, right?

Yes. I want to do that.

Since you want to do that,

I didn't own you anything.

Right?

Yes.

Okay.

Since I didn't own you anything.

Remember,

I treat you well,

just because you work in my family.

And because you're nice to me.

But that doesn't mean that you could do everything to me.

Sorry.

How many words are left unsaid?

I don't want to be the only one in love.

How to break through all the barriers?

I'm the one deeply in love.

Miss.

Nanny, you're so kind.

Did you drink too much?

No

Well, I want to remind you of one thing.

Go ahead.

Mu Le,

Do you have any plan for him?

He's so ambitious and cool to us.

I can't wait to stay away from him. What can I plan for him?

You're not telling truth.

You treat everyone here well.

You'll do the same to Mu Le.

If he would stay here,

I will treat him well.

But he wouldn't stay here.

I can't force him.

What should I plan?

He's a servant and born from humble family.

Wherever he is,

he can't do farming and business.

And he can't apply for any higher position.

Do you realize that?

I forget about this. You're so careful.

But he's not only humble.

He's the bandit in Huodu Mountain

and the suspect in court.

So even if I don't like him.

I should make some plans for him.

Okay. I have t ask others for help.

Good.

I haven't had such a good sleep for a long time.

Nobody forces me to think about schemes anymore.

And nobody forces me to take the beads.

Good.

You got up, Princess.

Let Dier get you dressed.

Wear the Meijingyuan necklace.

I like it.

You got up, sister.

You look great today. Your face is as rosy as flower.

I'm flattered.

My face didn't change at all.

These days,

I'm bothered by those people.

Who?

Those who propose a marriage.

The eldest son of Ministry Xu.

The son of Zhenxi Lord.

And the eldest son of General Wu.

Besides, many princes and aristocrats

have come to propose decently.

But I didn't promise anyone.

I told them,

this should be decided by my sister herself.

Her brother and I will listen to her about this.

Perfect answers.

After what happened between Xianya and me,

they all consider me as the bane.

They dare not to propose.

Now they know my background and that Empress trusts me.

They come to propose.

They're the followers of wealth and power.

Minghui is right.

They're the followers of wealth and power.

They're not our friends.

But my dear sister,

I have to tell you something,

even you won't be happy by hearing this.

You're smart and pretty.

But you can't live with us for the rest of your life.

You must find someone to be your husband.

I know you're considerate.

But who he is and where he is is only in my mind.

Nine Divine Beads are supreme treasure fetched back

by Master Sanzang from India.

In the Ci'en Temple massacre,

the beads were lost around.

The evildoer Tian Qiao deceived the Emperor

and usurped the position of State Preceptor.

Now the case is closed and everything is clear.

Tian Qiao died and the beads were brought back.

Thanks to Master Tian Shu.

He protected our nation

and cleared Master Sanzang and his pupils.

Today we appoint Mater Tian Shu

as our new State Preceptor in our nation.

Thank you, Emperor and Empress.

State Preceptor, we do hope that you could decode

all the secrets of Nine Divine Beads

and help our nation achieve the unification.

Yes, Empress.

His Majesty descends an imperial edict and says:

Zhan Lanzhi from Court of Judicature and Revision

is intelligent, courageous and skillful in fighting.

He defeated Tian Qiao and his accomplices.

He has made great contribution. Five years' official salary is awarded.

Announcement by the emperor himself.

With honor, His Majesty.

Imperial edict for Ye Yuan'an and Princess Minghui.

- Your majesty. - Your majesty.

His Majesty descends an imperial edict and says:

Ye Yuan'an and Princess Minghui

are intelligent, brave and loyal.

They never bow to temptation,

They have made great contributions to eradicating Tian Qiao and his accomplices.

Ye Yuan'an is promoted as the Sibu of Imperial Household Bureau.

and Princess Minghui is promoted as the Siyan of Imperial Household Bureau

They're on standard class, fifth rank and five years' official salary are awarded.

Announcement by the emperor himself.

Gramercy, your Majesty.

It's auspicious. Congratulations, emperor and empress.

Fine. All arise.

Thanks Emperor!

Empress,the State Preceptor said

he's in the Futu Pagoda

focusing on decoding the secret of the beads

andcan't make it here to the meeting.

In my opinion, he's just unwilling to come.

He also said,

the nine stars in Futu Pagoda

are the Nine Beads brought together.

It seems that our dream to achieve the unification

will be achieved soon.

Okay.

He's allowed not to come here for the banquet.

Go back and tell him,

the mission to rule the world is counting on him.

Yes.

Miss Ye, you're summoned by the empress.

Princess, here please.

Your Highness.

Stand up.

Thanks empress.

My girls,

how do you like my awards?

I'm overjoyed. I hope I could live up to your expectation.

And you, Yuan'an?

I feel great.

But I don't know what to do.

You'll take more responsibilities in your higher positions.

You would know this later.

My girls,

I do like you two.

If you have any unfulfilled wishes,

you can just tell me.

Maybe I could help you with them.

I am just waiting for this!

Go ahead and tell me.

Empress,

there is a servant named Mu Le in my home.

He is loyal to me.

And he has contributed a lot in defeating Tian Qiao this time.

Because he's just a slave

and used to a bandit in Huodu Mount,

he can't get awards.

I hope empress could spare his humble identity.

Then he could make a new living.

Okay, Yuan'an.

You didn't let me down.

You're warmhearted and have sense of justice.

I promise you.

Thank you, empress.

And you, Minghui?

I...

I want Zhao Lanzhi.

What?

You asked me about my unfulfilled wishes.

I'm serious about that.

My unfulfilled wish is Zhao Lanzhi.

You're asking for trouble.

Come on then. I'm not afraid of you.

Well, Yuan'an,

you may leave first.

I want to talk to Minghui.

Empress.

Minghui, I used to think that you're clever and sensible.

You know what you want.

But today,

you seem a little bit irrational.

Empress, you think I'm irrational.

I know

that you and Yuan'an are not in good relationship.

You're still young and aggressive.

It doesn't matter to compete in something.

But marriage is important.

Will you compete in this?

No, empress.

This has nothing to do with Ye Yuan'an.

That I ask you for Zhan Lanzhi

is not to compete with Ye Yuan'an.

We all know that they love each other.

They could even sacrifice their lives for another.

Minghui,

there are many excellent men in the royal family.

Why do you want him?

There are many excellent men,

but I only want Zhao Lanzhi.

I want him just for myself.

I love this man.

He's upright and brave.

Empress, you said you would satisfy me wish.

I'm glad to work for you.

I just wish I could have this.

I can give up anything else.

Empress,

will you promise me?

I can grant your marriage.

But,

how can I face Yuan'an?

Don't worry, empress.

If she's thinking about this, she would mention it.

Just now, she just mentioned her servant.

Because everyone knows

that they love each other.

It's something quite natural.

No, empress.

This is not the case.

Minghui, you're so stubborn,

will you be happy?

You put me in a dilemma.

If you want a long-term relationship,

you two must love each other. You can't force it.

Well then, if you ask for my permission.

Ask Lanzhi to tell me this.

If he's willing,

I'll give you the permission.

Thanks!

I'll definitely let Zhao Lanzhi here ask for your permission.

What did you say?

The Princess Minghui falls in love with you.

She asked the empress to grant your marriage.

Nonsense!

I dare not to make jokes on this.

When did you begin to have these dirty feelings on her?

Have you had an affair long ago?

You're using this beautiful words on me.

Good job, Yuan'an!

Dirty feelings? Having an affair?

You're being so mean.

Before the case of Tian Qiao is clear,

Minghui is the enemy for both of us.

How could I have an affair with her?

It takes two to have an affair.

Flies do not bite the seamless eggs.

See, seductive eyes.

You seem not someone upright.

You're getting more irrational.

My seductive eyes?

You're provoking her.

Have you ever seen such honorable eyes?

There there. Don't be angry about this.

Tomorrow I'll go to Prince Yu's Mansion

and tell Minghui clearly about this.

Let's clear all your old scores.

Don't get me involved at least.

It's you who get me involved.

Anyway, you must have a solution.

Lanzhi, it's honored to have you here.

Prince Yu.

Please sit down.

I was wondering to ask you out for hunting.

The empress thinks highly of you now.

I'm afraid you would refuse me.

Don't say that. I'm flattered.

Lanzhi, what are you coming for?

Not dealing with case here?

No jokes.

I came to talk to Minghui.

I have something to discuss with her.

Minghui? She went out in the early morning.

She's left for two hours.

She would come back soon.

Could you wait for her here?

Okay. Thanks.

Mr. Zhao, are you coming for me?

I have something to discuss with you.

Minghui,

what's wrong with your hand?

It's bleeding.

I fell down just now. Nothing serious.

Mr. Zhao,

this way, please.

What brings you here?

Yuan'an told me a joke.

She said you asked the empress to grand our marriage?

I was wondering why would you do that.

It's so ridiculous.

I came here to tell you.

If Yuan'an and I have done something wrong for you,

please forgive us.

You're generous and please leave them behind.

We both serve for the empress.

so we may need to help each other.

But for other things,

I hope that we're not related.

You apologize for Ye Yuan'an.

Why did you do that for her?

And how do you know

Ye Yuan'an was telling jokes?

In your mind,

no matter what she said is funny, right?

Yuan'an.

Sometimes she's like a child, confused about many things.

If you fall in love with someone,

you'll say so,

everything by her is cute just like a child.

Mr. Zhao.

I saw you picked up the flowers she threw away,

the moment you saw her smiling,

and you touched her hair in her forehead softly.

You're right.

We went though hardship and danger together.

We're partners and like brother and sister.

We're close.

But this time, she was not telling jokes to you.

I did asked the empress

to grant our marriage.

Because I must have what Ye Yuan'an has.

I want nothing else but you.

Princess, getting married is not a joke.

You may go too far?

It's not a joke.

It has to be true.

I'm afraid I can't say yes.

See you.

Zhan Lanzhi.

Did you remember?

When we were in the prison,

you begged me not to torture Ye Yuan'an.

I said yes.

Tian Qiao ordered his pupils to break off one of my fingers.

Just because I helped you.

We had agreement then.

You must give it back to me.

Anything I want.

You promised to me.

Did you forget?

I'll never forget.

If you need,

I could even give you my life.

But I'll not marry you.

You eat your words?

You ask too much and it's ridiculous.

I'm not able to give it to you.

Since then, I 'll not force you.

You may leave.

Thanks.

Zhao Lanzhi,

have you even been to the gambling house?

I've been there to deal with cases.

Then you must know their rules.

If a gambler lost all his money,

he would say to the boss,

after he had money,

he would return immediately.

If this gambler has credit,

he could be let go.

But this kind of person can get away with the debt?

What do you want on earth?

I mean,

Mr. Zhao, I may let you go today,

but after several days,

you may come back to me.

At that time, the interest will get more.

Ye Chengdu please come for the imperial edict.

Mu Le, stop feeding them.

I have great news for you!

What is it?

You contributed on the Tian Qiao case,

So I asked the empress to spare your humble identity.

From now on, you're free!

You can do whatever you want.

You don't need to feed horses here.

Her highness also said,

what you did in Duodena Mount can be cleared away.

Look, here is the imperial edict.

What do you mean?

I mean nothing.

What do you mean by "mean nothing"?

Do you think it's easy to get this?

Do you think anyone can do it?

I get this for you with great efforts.

What do you want? Thank you?

You ought to do this.

You don't want to be a servant, right?

You don't want us to be your master.

Now your wish is achieved.

Why are you angry about this?

Then?

Give me freedom?

You can get married with Zhao Lanzhi?

What are you talking about?

I don't know where I'm from

and even my identity.

I'm not born a slave.

It's my own thing. I would hand it myself.

You don't need to worry about it.

You must be mad!

What are you doing?

I don't listen to you.

But you can't hurt yourself for me.

I didn't hurt myself.

You think too highly of yourself

You know? You're really unreasonable.

Don't you know we must enshrine the imperial edict.

Hurry up.

Sir.

What's wrong with Miss Ye?

We don't know. Nothing happened.

Then she can't see.

This way, please.

Hurry up.

Which is this?

One.

How about this?

Seven.

Doctor, what...

From the pulse condition,

she's not sick.

What? Not sick?

Nothing serious.

Maybe she has been too tired

and have much pressure. The eyesight gets affected.

I'll give medicine for refreshment and improving eyesight.

She'll recover soon.

Doctor, isn't it serious?

Besides,

she should eat more pork liver and fish.

They're good for her.

Okay. Thanks doctor.

Shall walk you out?

Sister, I'm Yuanning.

Yuanning, I know you.

Don't bother me. Busy now.

Play with you after walking doctor out.

Yuan'an.

What...

Honey, eat the fish eyes.

It's good for your eyes.

Nanny Zhang,

what's wrong with the cook?

They didn't add salt in the dishes.

They have no taste.

Go to kitchen and fetch the salt and pepper to me.

Okay.

Nanny, put more.

Okay.

More. Give me more.

Nanny, did you add any?

Oh! Too spicy!

What's wrong with her?

The eyes haven't recovered.

Here comes the tongue.

Yes, what...

What's wrong with this?

Sir.

Lanzhi.

- Lanzhi. - Yuan'an.

What's wrong with you?

Lanzhi.

I'm here.

Lanzhi.

Yuan'an, you...

I don't know.

It comes all of a sudden.

All of a sudden and without any sign.

Did you eat or drink something?

Or did you met anyone?

I...I don't know.

Lanzhi...

Here, Yuan'an.

Hold the brush.

Write it down.

Here.

Minghui?

You met Minghui?

What did you do with her?

Come on.

Fight? You fought with her?

Minghui.

What's wrong with your hand?

It's bleeding.

I just fell down. Nothing serious.

Sir, I let you go today.

After several days,

you may come back to me.

At that time, the interest may get doubled.

Yuan'an, have a good rest here.

I'm going to see Minghui.

Don't leave.

Lanzhi.

Could I ask you for a poison?

For what?

Nothing is more important than people's lives.

The best skill is to kill someone.

I want the most toxic one.

As long I want,

my enemy will die immediately.

Now it's yours.

But remember,

if it's not urgent enough,

or unless you meet the most tough enemy,

never use it.

State Preceptor, can this poison kill a person immediately?

Killing them is no better than making they surrender.

This poison is colorless, tasteless and can't be tested out.

I won't kill your enemy immediately.

They still have time to think and judge.

Will they be your servants or corpses?

Get it?

Sir, Minghui doesn't feel well today.

She doesn't want to see you.

Lanzhi.

Can't you just come tomorrow?

Prince, don't you know that someone is dying?

How can I put it off?

Mr. Zhao! Mr. Zhao!

Mr. Zhao, you can't come in.

Mr. Zhao!
