An Oriental Odyssey

Episode 28

Princess, please give her a way off.

You're willing to kneel down to beg for her life.

What's good about her? Does it really deserve you to do so?

Tell me! Say it!

Maybe she has no merits in others' eyes

but she is Yuan'an.

She's insane.

Her servant is insane.

The old monk she hid is insane.

And I think it's your turn now.

What are you doing? Stand up.

What can I do even if you kneel down?

Zhao, let me tell you one more time.

I'm on imperial's order.

What you asked is impossible for me to complete.

I wouldn't let her out even if you kill yourself.

If I died,

I wouldn't worry about all the coming things.

What do you think that you can do?

Can you save her?

It's a matter of Emperor, Empress and State Preceptor.

How can State Preceptor let Ye Yuan'an out without catching Chen Tianshu?

How many times do I tell you?

Stop dreaming!

Princess.

I only hope you won't torture her.

As you said that it's a matter of Emperor and Empress,

I'm now presenting myself before Her Majesty.

If Yuan'an were really to know Chen Tianshu's destination

but fail to talk because of your torture,

it might run counter to your desire.

You...

This is the jail.

Stop torturing her in the jail.

You want me to do you a favor?

Okay.

Such a big favor.

Zhao.

How can you pay for it?

I, Zhao Lanzhi will do all the things you want

if you need.

Okay, all the things.

I promise that I won't torture her in a short time.

But you must remember what you said.

I will keep my words.

What did you say to her?

Nothing.

Did you beg her humbly?

I did beg her.

But I didn't beg her humbly.

Yuan'an.

I want to ask you something.

Go ahead.

Are you really going to refuse to say where he is?

What should I say? I know nothing.

Okay.

I'm now presenting myself before Empress and beg her to let you out.

Wait for me.

Yuan'an, is it worthy for you to risk your own life for others?

If I don't stick to the principles I believe in,

then who will support me?

Understand.

If someone can treat me in this way,

I'll cherish it much more than her.

Sir, please stop kneeling.

Empress refused to see you though you've knelt for a long time.

Don't you understand her meaning?

Eunuch...

Did you tell Her Majesty what I begged you to tell?

Sir, I told Empress all your words verbatim

but she refused to meet you.

What else can I do?

Drink the water first.

It's really hot outside and it will damage your health.

Thank you.

Tell you honestly, Sir.

These days, Emperor had a headache again.

He can't keep his eyes open.

Well...

It cannot be decided only by Empress now.

State Preceptor has said it clearly.

If the criminal of Ciyun Temple case happened 19 years ago cannot be arrested,

and Emperor's inner demons cannot be solved,

it can't be over.

You'd better drink the water and leave.

Eunuch! Eunuch!

So bold! How dare you stop State Preceptor's sedan!

Lad, please make way.

Deputy Minister of Court of Judicature and Revision, Zhao Lanzhi, wants to ask State Preceptor about something.

How dare a mortal speak with State Preceptor like that?

I think that you are courting death!

Zhao Lanzhi.

I know you.

What's the urgent thing that you must tell me now?

Your life cannot be the compensation of my matter.

I just want to ask State Preceptor something.

Princess Minghui is your disciple.

Do you know all the things she did?

The case about Qianduan Brothel smuggling the Opium,

reselling cultural relics in Luotian Cave,

the theft case of the painting of Empress,

Prince Nanjing's granddaughter, Shui Yue killing people for their skins by sorcery,

General Guo changing into a moth

and having secret communication with caterans in Huodu Hill,

all of these things implicate Princess Minghui.

State Preceptor, does them implicate you?

Deputy Minister of Court of Judicature and Revision.

You haven't made them clear.

How dare you ask me about them? Step aside.

As long as you can let Ye Yuan'an out,

I won't investigate those cases! Cancel once for all!

How dare you bargain with me?

Stay your hands!

State Preceptor, Emperor is waiting for you.

Go to ease his pain.

A mantis raises its forelegs trying to stop an oncoming car. Go beyond his depth.

As long as I collect all the Nine Divine Beads,

I'll be the master of the world.

Even Empress can do nothing to me,

let alone Zhao Lanzhi.

As for Minghui...

She dared to disobey my order not killing Zhao Lanzhi.

Get even with her later.

Your Highness, I beg you.

Please let Yuan'an off as she has saved your life before

and find another evidences to catch Chen Tianshu!

Lanzhi.

I keep others' kindness in mind.

When we're in Basjoo Woods,

I remembered that Yuan'an saved me.

When we were in General Guo's Mansion,

Yuan'an tried her best to protect me.

I also remember it.

But all of these cannot let me abandon

to arrest the most wanted terrorist

or ignore Emperor's health.

The case has been registered.

Ye Yuan'an cannot be out until the case has an end.

Come on! Come and have a look! What about buying some flowers?

The flowers are pleasant and their colors are gorgeous.

Come and have a look!

Baas, is this West Market?

Yes.

Sir, the flowers from the South. It's reasonably cheap. Don't you buy some?

Where did you get it from the south?

You'd better ask my boss. I have no ideas about it.

Sir, why do you ask this?

Nothing. Just checking.

Sir!

I've heard from my boss that

its area of origin seems to be called Suoluo.

Suoluo?

Well, do you know how to get there?

I really have no ideas about it.

- Thank you so much. - That's fine.

Suoluo...

The name is familiar but a little bit strange for me.

Monk Tianshu who made a tragedy in Ciyun Temple has been arrested again.

He is alive!

See! Minister of Finance Ye Fucheng's daughter, Ye Yuan'an

has been arrested into jail for involving in hiding escapee.

Who are you? What are you doing?

- What are you doing? - Why do you uncover the bulletin?

Who are you?

Shu Shu.

If you still bully Mu Le in the future,

I'll threw you to Wanxing Temple

and let you have no meat to eat and no liquor to drink.

Come on.

Who are you?

Why did he uncover the bulletin?

[Wanxing Temple]

That's right. It's here.

Benefactor, what's the matter?

I'm a passerby. Well, as it's getting dark now,

I hope that I could find a lodging here.

To tell you the truth, our master made the rules here

that we won't give the strangers a lodging here.

Well, you see. There's a cave over there. Not far.

Benefactor, you can pass the night there.

Okay, I'll leave now.

Wait a minute, benefactor.

Well, as our master is out

and only the few of us are here,

we can give you a lodging tonight.

Tomorrow morning, if you can start off early, that will be fine.

- That's very nice of you. - This way please.

Please.

He's really ignorant

and never obeys master's words.

As the food here is not enough for us, he still brings a stranger to share it.

Only fill five bowls.

Well, benefactor, let's make a deal first.

We won't offer you our food.

If you still choose to stay here, then only stay here to rest.

Do you hear me?

As a traveler,

I also bring some food with me.

You have yours and I have my own meal.

Just leave me alone. Just ignore each other.

Delicious!

Benefactor, are these all your food?

I sometimes quarry and hunt on the mountain.

How about introducing them to you?

Come here.

Hurry up!

Come on!

This is the rabbit meat which is flavored by 36 kinds of perfumes.

It's soft and delicious.

This is the leg meat of a fawn which is six-month-old.

Its tendon and meat mixed together and has a stretchy taste.

This is an awesome one!

The meatball is made by wild boar meat.

The wild boar meat has a hard taste. You know that right?

But if it's chopped, mixed with waternuts, and then fried by its white oil...

I don't know how to describe the taste. Anyway, it's really delicious!

Why don't you keep on saying?

This! What's this?

This...

This is beef.

Beef? That's really normal.

Beef isn't rare. We don't care about it.

This beef is not the common one.

This is the best bar of buffalo's loin.

Succulent and delicious.

I know it!

The meat still has another name called "Butcher's keeping".

It's the last piece of the buffalo after the butcher dismembers the buffalo.

He grudges to sell it. Just keep it himself.

How did you cook it?

It's easy.

I just scorched its surrounding skin first

but its inside was still succulent and remaining its original flavor.

So that's why...

You guy! Are you on purpose?

What 36 kinds of seasoning?

What hind legs of fawn?

You tell us in such a detailed way...

Don't you know that we monastics cannot hear such words?

- He's right! - That's not enough...

You still show us the "Butcher's keeping" and don't share with us...

Well... do you want us to break our oath?

Well, actually, If you Taoist priests

want to eat together, I can share with you!

- Come and eat it! - You should say it earlier!

You're so bold! You're really uncontrolled as our master is out!

It tastes the same!

I haven't eaten it for a long time!

It's really delicious!

Taoist priest, is it not good enough as you eat meats without drinking liquor?

liquor! I know you have it!

I smelt the smell of liquor as you came in.

- Take it out and let me have a drink! - Okay.

Give it to me!

It's really a good one! Good wine!

- Cheers. -Cheers!

Green reeds are thick and dense. Clear dews become frost thence.

My beloved, is just on the water side.

You don't have the luck to get them!

Is he going crazy?

Look at him! What a scandal!

Our master shouldn't take him in a few days ago.

- You help yourself first. - Okay!

Excuse me. You said that he's just become your master's apprentice?

Yes. He hasn't stayed here for a long time.

We don't even know his name!

He only mentioned a name to the master

and then master took him in because of this name.

Yes! He's right! I was there at that time.

Well, is the name which he said

called "Ye Yuan'an"?

How do you know that?

I not only know these

but also who he is.

Is he just a homeless kid?

He's not young.

He's older than all of us here.

It's really you!

Why did you tear off my mask while I was enjoying myself? Damn it!

You're really ungallant!

Yuan'an was put in the jail for you

but you enjoyed yourself here!

Come with me! Right now!

Impossible!

Where's he?

- Where's he? - Where did he go?

Good camouflage!

Because you're blind.

Let me see where you can escape!

We don't know that his skills are pretty good.

You shameless hustler! Give my clothes back!

If you still want to save your face, then stop catching me without your clothes!

You!

What's going on?

Because I put some medicines in the liquor and meats.

Impossible! Didn't you drink it too?

Because I had the antidote.

You guy!

A flaw in the plan!

How can you defeat me?

Do you know how many hardships Yuan'an endured after you left?

What she did is to cover and save me!

If you really catch me back, what she did will be in vain, right?

You're chopping logic! Stop lying to me!

Tell me. What happened?

Somebody framed me about the thing that happened 19 years ago!

It's my senior fellow apprentice Tian Qiao who framed me.

Though you don't believe me, you should trust her judgment!

If you're innocent,

why did you let Yuan'an replace you?

She's willing! None of my business.

She's willing but I'm unwilling!

What do you want?

I want to use you to exchange her!

Her life is the most important thing for me. Let's go!

I beg Your Highness to give Ye Yuan'an a way off and find another way to catch Chen Tianshu.

Emperor.

I'm back.

My headache always recurs.

All the political matters depend on you.

Take it easy, your majesty.

I can deal with those matters.

But...

What do you want to tell?

Your majesty.

Zhao Lanzhi has knelt down outside for three days and nights,

begging us to give Ye Yuan'an a way off

and find Chen Tianshu in another way.

After seeing him saying with certainty and in a determined attitude,

I think maybe...

there's something queer inside.

The girl...

has already stayed in the jail for three days and nights...

What a horrible place it is...

If she really knew the whereabouts of Monk Tianshu,

maybe she would tell us... anyway...

She's really a poor girl...

Let her out...

Brilliant, Your Majesty.

Mei Niang.

My headache...

can't be cured, right?

Don't worry, your majesty.

You have a benevolent heart

and you will be fine soon.

Your Majesty.

The thing about treating diseases...

30% of it depends on doctors and the rest depends on patient himself.

How can Your Majesty give up so easily?

Are you going to dream nightmare night by night and having headache day by day?

Don't worry, Emperor.

This time, I'll go to interrogate Ye Yuan'an myself.

I must let her tell us Tianshu's situation

to solve Emperor's inner demons.

Help me, State Preceptor.

I'll, Your Majesty.

Go to invite Doctor Liu here.

Yes.

She's there.

Thank you.

Xia!

- Xia! - Miss!

Why are you here?

I come to see you...

and bring some food to you.

They're all your favorites.

Why always you? Where's my dad?

He's busy.

It's him who asked me to come.

- Really? - Really!

Are they still missing me?

Yes! They miss you so much!

Xia.

All the things depend on you these days.

Help me take care of them.

Don't worry, Miss.

Miss.

I know that you're not the one to stay in the jail.

You cannot be locked up here.

You must find the way out.

Hide it.

Why does it take so long? Time's over. You must leave now.

Miss, then I leave now.

Xia, take care of my families. Thanks you a lot!

I will.

It's heavily-guarded here.

Though I have a soft sword,

it's still hard for me to escape alone.

Rather than awaiting my doom,

I'd better go all-out to fight. Death is the worst case.

I, Ye Yuan'an, need to fear nothing!

This way.

State Preceptor asked us to come and bring you to his palace.

He'll interrogate you himself.

Tian Qiao.

You cannot speak his name in such a way!

Hurry up and come with us.

Wait!

She's my prisoner!

Empress asked me to take the responsibility here so you cannot take her away.

Princess Minghui, you didn't work hard

and you didn't find out the truth.

I think maybe you didn't listen to my words

or you've had unfaithful intentions now?

I dare not to do that. Please let her stay here

and report to State Preceptor that I don't have unfaithful intentions.

I just need time to find out the truth.

I hope that State Preceptor can trust me.

I'll complete my mission and my task.

This is what State Preceptor asked me to do.

Besides, he wanted you to kill Zhao Lanzhi.

I'll obey his order.

Miss Ye, this way please.

Yuan'an.

Greetings, State Preceptor.

I've heard something of you before.

But I've never seen you before,

I don't know what you've heard.

I've heard that you're highly skilled in martial arts,

with a strong sense of justice and ready to help the weak, smart and kind.

You treat your friends very well.

And also you've saved Empress's life before.

Empress treats you as her friend now.

Right?

State Preceptor.

It's only hearsay.

I poke my nose into everything...

But...

where Tianshu is,

I really have no ideas.

I'm coming to meet you today

for I have some other things to discuss with you.

Please go on.

I think that you're cute and clever

and I want you to be my disciple.

How do you think about it?

What can I get as being your disciple?

I'll teach you all the things I know.

Such as curing, divining, creating machines,

manufacturing weapons and so on.

- Really? - And I also know that you like practicing martial arts.

As long as you're my disciple,

I can let you be the top master of martial arts.

Do you want to be the head of Wulin?

By the way.

Do you love money?

I have plenty of gold and silver.

You can have the amount which all you can imagine.

And it's still possible for you to be a high-ranking official in the future.

All these benefits are based on being your disciple?

You're right.

As you're my disciple,

it's enough.

But as I was in the jail just now,

I saw Minghui's finger got broken just in front of me.

Isn't she your disciple?

Why do you treat her in this way?

You are different.

She's not better than you

and not cleverer than you.

And as she wasted my time, I should punish her.

Well...

I won't treat you in this way.

As you already said in this way,

it really would be my fault

if I refuse to be your disciple.

You've told me so many benefits...

Well, actually, it's really attractive.

But...

I still don't know where he is.

Do you still want me to be your disciple?

You girl.

It seems that I should ask others to persuade you.

Yuan'an!

- State Preceptor! Don't drag them in! - Yuan'an!

Don't conceal, Yuan'an!

Yuan'an! Stop hiding the truth! You can't hide it anymore!

Hasten to tell him where the old man is!

Yuan'an, no matter what you want to do, you cannot ignore our lives!

They know nothing.

Let them off!

I know you're an obedient girl.

How can you ignore your families' safety?

As you tell me Tianshu's whereabouts,

I promise that I won't hurt your families.

And also I'll recommend your father as the Prime Minister

and give your brother a promising future.

Tell me.

Where do you hide him?

Wait!

Yuan'an, aren't you my daughter?

Haven't you seen that State Preceptor is going to kill us?

Yuan'an! I beg you!

No weapon can hurt me.

What did Tianshu teach you?

Butterball! Do you miss me for so many years?

Why do you come?

It all depends on your servant!

As you finally let me go, he caught me back again.

How can I leave you alone as you're in danger?

It's fate.

Tianshu.

We haven't seen each other for a long time.

Do you know the difficulties for me to find you?

I thought we would never meet each other in our life.

The girl protects you at the risk of her life.

But we never thought that

you're still caught by me after the long period.

Have you made clear about its ingredient?

Yes, Your Highness.

It's the mixed powder of a high dosage of Hypericum perforatum and rosemary.

It can banish one's cares and prevent the happening of depression.

But if one takes it for a long time,

it will do harm to one's liver and kidney and it will disturb sleep, even bring hallucinations.

You can leave first.

Dot mention it with others.

Yes.

Your majesty, how do you feel?

How long have I slept?

Not very long. Just a few hours.

Do you still have a headache?

A little bit.

But I'm now much better.

Mei Niang.

Is the medicine I took before sleep made by State Preceptor?

Emperor, it's made by Imperial Academy of Medicine, not by State Preceptor.

Imperial Academy of Medicine...

They can do noting to help me for a long time.

It's State Preceptor who gives me the treatment.

I'm seriously ill this time.

How can they suddenly give me the treatment?

Every medicine has its side effect.

The medicine can not only save people's lives but also damage them,

which is all decided by doctors' proportioning and use.

A doctor should have a benevolent heart.

But if his heart has changed,

do you think that his medicine will change as well?

Mei Niang...

What do you mean?

Emperor.

I'll report to you after making a through investigation.

Your Highness.

Your majesty, just have a good rest and I'll be back soon.

Just go ahead...
