Assisted Therapy.

healing through horses.

You know, we rescue the horses

and then the horses rescue us.

It turns out that
working with horses

is very beneficial
for a lot of people

with a lot of different
kinds of problems.

Anxiety, depression, PTSD.

- Special needs kids.

a walk in the park, ladies.

These are animals, they
take a lot of hard work.

- But that hard work is gonna
you in shape for Hawaii.

can not ride a horse

without a strong core.

that works with us
as a horse therapist

is not much older
than you are, Calista

and I think you would get
along with her really well.

And she is in great shape.

Everything is overwhelming.

Sights, sounds, new things.

She has a hard time picking
up on social cues sometimes

or body language, sarcasm.

All the things we
take for granted

make it really hard
for her to communicate

and make friends with people

and I imagine that must
be really frustrating

so I try to help her
in any way I can.

- So you just imagine what
someone else is going through?

Yeah, but it's a little
bit more than that.

You have to imagine
how they must feel.

- Like, when they
feel frustrated.

- Yeah, or jealous or angry

or wanting to be liked so
badly that they do things

that they don't
actually want to do.

I have to be patient
with myself, too.

frustrated with myself.

And then I just try to imagine

how else I could respond
to whatever's happening.

- So you just choose
how to respond?

And that works?

I mean, it's not always easy.

But, if you think about it,
we can't choose what happens

but we can choose
how we feel about it.

way I think about it.
