TWO DAYS AFTER ARRIVAL

THE TALIBANS TAKEN KABUL.

we never imagined
that we would take Kabul.

We left victorious and happy.

We came to conquer Kabul.
Everyone was scared to death of us.

It was a terrifying height
and complete chaos.

Everyone ran to the airport
to leave Afghanistan.

We feared that a war would start.
We were all afraid.

It was about our families.

It was about the city
where I was born and raised.

Let's get out there!

I am the commander
of the 1st Battalion 8th Marines.

Around August 12, 2021,
the doorbell rang in the middle of the night

and things accelerated
very quickly.

And on the 13th,
we were in Afghanistan.

Are ready? Let's go out.

We went to Afghanistan
with what we had on our backs.

we got off the plane
and we immediately got to work.

I only had 150 people

and lack of equipment
needed in the first few days.

to start the mission,

they were not Afghan civilians.

We arrived on the 13th,

The women cried, appeared
with children and extended family.

We weren't open yet.

We didn't have everyone there.

The base had been invaded.
The airfield was busy.

For them those planes
meant freedom.

They settled there to block everything,
basically to say:

"They're going to put me on the plane. I'm not leaving here
until they do."

We called the 150 marines
that I had to open the airfield.

We had planes in the air, making time.
They couldn't land.

If anyone is at the airfield,

a plane cannot land

There was no way in or out.

We tried to keep them off track

We depended on it.
If we had missed the airfield,

Taliban infiltrators in the crowd

A clean shot took his life.

That's when I shot
the second shot, in the chest.

We've been fighting them for 20 years.

He was a target, a threat.

We had opened the airfield.

On the 16th of August, when I woke up,

if they hadn't come.

That night and the next morning,
there were no more large crowds.

AUGUST 17

We decided to give
a press conference.

Spokesperson for the Taliban

because people
waited in fear

or run to the airport
to flee Afghanistan.

People feared for their lives.

At the press conference,
I tried to speak directly to the people.

There is nothing to fear.
Do not flee the country.

All the hate is gone.

Your Excellency,
the Supreme Leader, decreed

that all those who opposed us
will be forgiven.

Families waiting at the airport,

11 DAYS AFTER THE TAKEOUT OF THE TALIBANS

We took stronger measures
at the North and East Gates on the 26th,

When we got on the plane

Our parents, our country, everything.

When we left our home,

our life, our studies,

we feel numb.

who are still in Afghanistan.

I know many examples,
and they remain trapped.

Life in Afghanistan has changed
many things for women.

It's a terrible feeling
when we don't know our future.

I would have no idea
of what my next year would be like

or my next day,
in Afghanistan.

Our only option is to be strong

and we accept
what the future will bring us.
