We can look at failed leadership from three different perspectives.

The leader, the people and the organization, let's go over each of these perspectives so you can see

what I mean.

From the leader's point of view, the following outcomes might happen.

There's a loss of credibility.

There's a loss of control over the organization.

There's an inability to pull the organization together again.

And there's poor support for any further strategic initiative, if you think about it, you'll realize

that one or more of these outcomes occurred with the examples of Nixon, Armstrong, et cetera, that

we just listed from the point of view of the people involved.

This is what happens.

Loss of trust in the leader.

Frustration that wasted effort, disappointment, disillusionment, reluctance to accept further initiatives.

Think about it once you've lost trust in your leader and you're disillusioned about them.

Do you really want to follow them in the future?

Of course not.

It's very hard to trust.

Again, from an organizational perspective, the effects might be a loss of revenue and profit from

poor decisions, a loss of credibility with customers, definitely a loss of credibility with personnel.

And strategic weakness overall, this is a perfect example of what happened to Enron when the leaders

stole the investments, they crashed and burned, never to return again.

As you can see, when a leader is not consistent in the appropriate behaviors and decision making,

the impact of their failure is felt by the leader, the followers and the organization as a whole.
