You see, lateral leadership is a means of involving networked teams to ensure the organization's vision

is executed.

Telling others what to do is not an effective lateral leadership style because it implies that other

members of the team have a lower status and colleagues may hear telling as accusation, colleagues may

see you as assigning them lower roles.

Participation is not involved and they may not see the process in the same context as the leader.

The benefit of lateral leadership can be enhanced by blaming joint methods, not colleagues.

If something goes wrong, by acknowledging there may be good reasons for others behavior when they don't

do what you expect by accepting a share in the responsibility for the success or failure of the project,

by thinking about roles as others might see them, by involving your colleagues in planning changes

and by keeping an open mind.

This is collaborative and you display your leadership skills in a different way because in a lateral

leadership situation, you cannot make all the decisions all the time.

Lateral leadership is an engagement process and can be summarized as assigning team members to contribute

their own views, perspectives and thoughts, offering your own views, perspectives and thoughts and

encouraging participation.

And please don't just gather information and ask for input, but not actually incorporate the suggestions

or you seem very insincere, uncaring, having no integrity and so forth.

So how are you wondering what became of Bob?

His manager had no doubt that he could succeed and proceeded to run through and explain the power of

lateral leadership.

Bob took his job and the feedback seriously and immediately took measures to rectify the chaos he had

caused.

Bob now knew that he had to do a few things differently.

He incorporated each of the key components of lateral leadership, resulting in an amazing turnaround
