According to British intelligence, the number
of Russians leaving the country to avoid President

Vladimir Putin's mobilization for the war
in Ukraine is probably greater than the original

invasion force.

The U.K. Ministry of Defense released this
estimate, writing that there has been a "significant

exodus of Russians trying to evade the draft."

"While the exact numbers are unclear, they
likely exceed the size of the entire invasion

force deployed by Russia in February 2022,"
the report said.

Since Putin announced a call for 300,000 reservists
on September 21, a massive flight to neighboring

countries has begun, many Russians have been
trying to evade being sent to the front line.

In March, Putin promised not to introduce
conscription, which helped distractRussian

civilians from the realities of the invasion
of Ukraine.

This was abruptly interrupted by the announcement
of mobilization last week.

Associated Press reported that at least 200,000
Russians have fled to Georgia, Kazakhstan

and Finland, not counting other countries.

Bloomberg, citing data from the European Union,
Georgia and Kazakhstan, confirms these figures

These estimates exceed what the U.S. estimates
of 190,000 invasion forces that had concentrated

on the border with Ukraine shortly before
the invasion.

Plane tickets to countries that have friendly
visa agreements with Russia were sold out

almost immediately after Putin's announcement,
and seats on private planes cost as much as

$27,000.

Among those trying to leave Russia, too many
are wealthy and well-educated.

Wealthy Russians began fleeing long before
this statement.

By mid-March, some 15,000 Russian millionaires
had left the country, according to New World

Wealth, an analytical company.

According to the ministry, the situation is
likely to exacerbate the country's economic

problems and the "brain drain" effect.

More will run, less will take up arms, but
it would be better if they turned on those

who are the enemy.
