we watch movies a lot without thinking

about some of the most important aspects

of the film itself one of these is color

in my opinion color is one of the most

crucial aspects of any film made today

it creates its home within the film and

makes the audience feel something this

is so unique because there aren't many

things that we see every day other than

color itself making it important because

subconsciously there are so many color

patterns we see daily that it affects

the way we feel about any given scenario

there are so many theories that we can

look out to see how these colors can

influence our view on a scene we can

look at it saturation contrast color

theory or color value but I think the

thing that we should first look at is

the way that car is great scenes in

today's films grading is the process of

changing the colors saturation contrast

and other things within the image they

often use sharp blue tones for sci-fi

warm red tones for romance saturated red

and blues for comedies and for most of

the film including dramas blue and

orange are quite common these two colors

are used for a lot of reasons the main

one being is that they contrast with

each other so when we see a person in

the scene because of their skin tone it

makes them pop out within an image it

makes the expressions of the actions of

the person more dramatic because the way

that it contrasts with the background

these contrasting colors are also known

as complementary colors because of the

way that they oppose each other within a

couple we can look at the scene in Mad

Max to see how contrasting colors are

used to make a character more distinct

within a scene the clear blue sky

contrasts with the sandy orange

characters making the already tense

scene even more dramatic although orange

and blue are two of the most used

complementary colors in film there are a

lot more combinations used for different

themes the film Amelie features a red

and blue color scheme for is quirky

comedic romance narrative and Wes

Anderson uses the purple and yellow

color scheme for an unorthodox comedy in

the grand Budapest hotel filmmakers can

extensively look at color combinations

to create the right look of their film

there's a lot of non color combinations

when use about thinking about color

theory the analogous color scheme

features colors that sit next to each

other on the color wheel

these colors are generally used for more

relaxed and harmonious scenarios as

these colors can normally be found in

nature Inception can be an example where

a lot of the colors it uses blend in

with each

the triadic color scheme uses three

colors evenly spaced out within the

color wheel to make a hectic and

slightly off looking scene this is often

using cartoons and animations because

it's quite exciting and striking colors

are often saturated to contrast with

each other well I have found that this

is seen in a lot of 70s films because of

the colourful nature of the time period

rush is a good example of this the split

complementary color scheme is a lot like

their complementary color scheme except

that it uses two colors that are nearly

opposite each other on the color wheel

this makes the two opposing colors

contrast but creates less tension an

example of this could be found in

transformers and finally we can look at

a trade it color scheme that uses four

opposing colors on the color wheel this

is a technique not often used in film

because of how difficult it can be to

use it's mainly used in colorful scenes

that are very light-hearted and don't

create much tension within the shot an

example of this can be found in the film

The Wolf of Wall Street color is like a

code that filmmakers used to express to

the audience how a scene shall be

perceived but what makes color so great

is how we can perceive it in any way

when we watch movies we're going to take

away what we want from the film or

depending on how we feel about color is

one way to influence the feeling there

is so much more about how color is used

now effective it is in cinema I think
