in New York, bringing the grammys back to this city for

the first time in 15 years.

years ago, right here on this stage, as I began my first year

as President of the recording academy.

Since then, we are so pleased and proud of what we have

contributed to the legendary legacy of excellence which

remains the hallmark of our organization.

So, what do 60 years of excellence look like?

We have awarded more than 9,600 grammys, music's highest

accolade, and we are the most- watched music event in the

world.

Our musicares charity has provided nearly $58 million in

aid and served more than 125,000 people in our music community.

( Applause ) and this includes saving lives

with addiction recovery and sober living help.

We're in Texas, Florida, puerto rico, and now California,

helping music people recover from devastating hurricanes and

fires.

And as a nation, we must help all of our brothers and sisters

until they are back on their feet.

( Applause ) the academy's work on capitol

hill improves the lives of music creators, and thousands

participate in all 50 states in the largest grassroots movement

in music history.

The time is right, and we are working closely with congress to

pass comprehensive music licensing reform, which began

with a grammy-timed congressional hearing where I

had the privilege to testify right here in New York just two

days ago.

( Applause ) our extraordinary grammy museum

has welcomed more than five million visitors to our

locations in Los Angeles, Mississippi, Nashville, and new

Jersey, and traveling exhibits in 29 cities and eight

countries.

And we've provided over $10 million for our music

education programs and opportunities for students.

And our future looks even more promising.

The recently launched grammy music education coalition is

dedicated to building universal music participation in schools

nationwide.

So just imagine every student in America having access to music

programs; with your help and support, we can make that dream

a reality.

First off, first off, to the other nominees in this category,

lorde, kung fu keny, Jay-Z, gambino, you are the reasons I'm

in the studio pulling my hair out because I know will you only

come with the top shelf artistry and music and thank you for

blessing the world with your music.

I mean that.

(Applause) can I tell you all a story real

quick, don't cut me off, grammys, please.

I'm going to try to this do, this have I been drinking,

celebrating a little bit but-- so I'm 15 years old and

I'm opening up a show in Hawaii called the magic of polynesia.

I'm in front ever a curtain and I'm singing songs.

My job in that show was to entertain about a thousand

people, a thousand tourists from all over the world.

And I put together a set list like 10 to 12 songs and I will

be honest, I was in incredible at 15.

I was-- and later on in life i found out that those songs that

I was singing were written by either baby face, Jimmy jam

Terry Lewis or Teddy Riley.

And with those songs I remember seeing t I remember seeing it

first hand people dancing that had never met each other from

two siesd of the globe, dancing with each other, toasting with

each other, celebrating together.

All I wanted to do with this album was that.

And you know, those sings were written with nothing but joy and

for one reason and for one reason only, and that's love.

That Saul I wanted to bring with this album and hopefully I could

feel that again and see everybody dancing and everybody

moving.

So (applause)

I would like to dedicate this award to them, they are my

heroes.

They are my teachers, they laid the foundation.

This album wouldn't exist if it wasn't for these guys that have

written these songs.

You know, I had to sprinkle a little Mars sauce on it.

And this is for them, I love you guys, thank you so much, I don't

know, it's incredible.
